A zebra, a parrot, and a drunkard walk into a bar….

Man arrested in drunken driving stunt after taking zebra, parrot on a trip to a bar

DUBUQUE, Iowa –  An Iowa man stopped outside a Dubuque bar with a small zebra and a parrot in his truck has been charged with drunken driving.

KCRG-TV reports officers arrested 56-year-old Jerald Reiter of Cascade on Sunday in the parking lot of the Dog House bar, where people had been taking photos of the animals.

Reiter says the zebra and macaw parrot are pets and like riding in the truck. Reiter claims he sometimes takes the animals into the bar, but the owner says they’re not allowed inside.

Officers gave Reiter a field sobriety test and charged him with drunken driving. Reiter disputes the arrest. He says he was about to let a passenger, a person, begin driving.

He says he thinks someone who came to see the animals called police.

Brilliant business idea!

For those of you who have aquariums, you know how difficult it can be to get a friend to come over the odd time you have to be away for a few days to a few weeks, to feed and look after them for you.

Now, thanks to the cleverness of some British, Turkish and Indonesian spa owners, you can actually charge women to come and feed your fish! Now that is thinking. Thanks Ken at Tundra T for the heads up on this rather brilliant turn-around on an old problem.

This is the picture that led the FBI to a catch prolific hacker allegedly responsible for releasing the personal information of scores of police officers throughout the United States.

Higinio O. Ochoa III has been charged with illegally hacking into at least four U.S. law enforcement websites – feats he allegedly boasted about across social networking sites.

And it was this image – snapped in Australia – of his scantily-clad girlfriend holding a message taunting U.S. authorities that caught the 30-year-old computer programmer from Galveston, Texas.

Now you too can own your own clown-car

Each one can hold one person or 14 clowns

The quest for more fuel-efficient vehicles has seen a shift from the gas-guzzling behemoths of yesteryear to smaller and smaller cars, such as the Volkswagen up! and Toyota iQ. The smallest currently in production is the Tata Nano that measures just 122 inches (309.9 cm) long and 58.9 inches (223 cm) wide. But for the world’s smallest ever production car you’d have to look back to the early 1960’s and the Peel P50, which measured just 54 inches (137 cm) long and 41 inches (104.1 cm) wide, and weighed 130 lb (59 kg). Now replicas of the P50 -and its bigger brother, the Peel Trident – are getting a limited production run and will be offered with a choice of gasoline or electric powerplants.

Originally produced on the Isle of Man from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company, the Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar with one door, one headlight, and a single windscreen wiper. Powered by a 49 cc engine coupled to a three-speed manual transmission, the car has a top speed of around 38 mph (61 km/h) and no reverse gear. It was designed by, Cyril Cannel, the owner of Peel Engineering Company which focused mainly on making fiberglass boats and fairings for motorcycles. Designed to accommodate a single adult – and a shopping bag – only 50 of the original Peel P50s were produced and sold for GBP199 (approx. US$315) each.

New evidence suggests Stone Age hunters from Europe discovered America

Wow this could screw up the victim-politics-totem-pole.

The Independent:

  • New archaeological evidence suggests that America was first discovered by Stone Age people from Europe – 10,000 years before the Siberian-originating ancestors of the American Indians set foot in the New World.

A remarkable series of several dozen European-style stone tools, dating back between 19,000 and 26,000 years, have been discovered at six locations along the US east coast. Three of the sites are on the Delmarva Peninsular in Maryland, discovered by archaeologist Dr Darrin Lowery of the University of Delaware. One is in Pennsylvania and another in Virginia. A sixth was discovered by scallop-dredging fishermen on the seabed 60 miles from the Virginian coast on what, in prehistoric times, would have been dry land.

Meanwhile, in local news…

First of all, I would like to thank the friends of Vlad Tepes Blog who are thoughtful enough to send in their photos of Ottawa oddities.

First of all, from an East end park, a sign that must mean something to someone. It looks expensive. I wonder what it means…

Next, it would appear that the group concerned about nuclear winter and it’s effects on area trees have been busy. Well, if the next ice age comes in the form of ‘cycle 25‘ at least we know a few trees will survive.

Sheep likely live in wooden barns. So this seems pretty fair.
