Meta data post. An article about information we cannot have

One of our readers send me a link with no explanation this morning. Just a link:

Title: Evidence over Hysteria – Covid 19

Those of you brave enough to click it would have been met with this:

Wow this is a little concerning. It almost feels like there are thoughts and vectors of thought we are not allowed to see about something which is ruining all our lives right now.

So another astute reader of this site hunted down a few more links:

Memeorandum.com: Evidence over Hysteria—covid19

Have not clicked through that link yet but lets explore some more:

At Roselawgroupreporter there is a great introduction to this article but then it just links to the original one at the top of this post, which no one can get to. The intro is below. Against our usual editorial policy, I will post in full before that vanishes as well.

After watching the outbreak of COVID-19 for the past two months, I’ve followed the pace of the infection, its severity, and how our world is tackling the virus. While we should be concerned and diligent, the situation has dramatically elevated to a mob-like fear spreading faster than COVID-19 itself. When 13% of Americans believe they are currently infected with COVID-19 (mathematically impossible), full-on panic is blocking our ability to think clearly and determine how to deploy our resources to stop this virus. Over three-fourths of Americans are scared of what we are doing to our society through law and hysteria, not of infection or spreading COVID-19 to those most vulnerable.

The following article is a systematic overview of COVID-19 driven by data from medical professionals and academic articles that will help you understand what is going on (sources include CDC, WHO, NIH, NHS, University of Oxford, Stanford, Harvard, NEJM, JAMA, and several others). I’m quite experienced at understanding virality, how things grow, and data. In my vocation, I’m most known for popularizing the “growth hacking movement” in Silicon Valley that specializes in driving rapid and viral adoption of technology products. Data is data. Our focus here isn’t treatments but numbers. You don’t need a special degree to understand what the data says and doesn’t say. Numbers are universal.

I hope you walk away with a more informed perspective on how you can help and fight back against the hysteria that is driving our country into a dark place. You can help us focus our scarce resources on those who are most vulnerable, who need our help.

Lastly Facebook. That actually has comments that are decent indicators of what this article was actually about. From reading a few, it seems the article was showing that statistically, the greater danger was loss of freedom, far more so than the virus, even if it is what they say. But who can know, as the freedom to read that article is gone. Which is a data point to its veracity, if indeed, that is what it said.

This seems to be one of those rare rare articles that makes it’s own point best by not being read.

UPDATE: Another reader of this site found a link to the article that works, and the original source for it confirms this is the article.

  1. Why cause hysteria? Here is a possible motive along with that motive’s own negation. But this does not discount the opportunity for a new world reserve currency that exists in both the digital and physical realms. It could be a digital gold derivative. Fact is, China and Russia will tolerate no other form of reserve currency because they have been saving for this day.

    • That’s what they TELL us. I’m not convinced that’s true.

Russian mouthpieces[*] expend a lot of spit fighting the U.S. dollar as global reserve currency. Economic sanctions wound self-esteem even more gravely than the economy. So they talk the impact down every which way. Sow doubt and distress, weaken the sanctimonious enemy’s resolve.

They assure us that both Russia and China have heaps of gold, show us statistics (that are hard to verify with precision). Such foresight!
(Though the sovereign wealth fund should be reckoned according to the oligarchs who feed off it, not confused with state- or national- as we understand it.)

They’re just reasonable folks, the Tzar and the ChiComs. They say: Stop weaponizing your economic clout, it won’t last forever. In fact we’ve already got the means to blunt it.

      They scold us for our debt burden, castigating the profligate West with the severity of hoary Austrian economists. {Yes, we are untidy. Forgive us, for we have sinned.}

The pegged petrodollar will be replaced with the petro-yuan. Cryptocurrencies are the future! The China Foreign Exchange Trade System will circumvent the SWIFT trap.

Eurasia climbs up the Belt-&-Road. With the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation council, imperialist sanctions and the American century are doomed.
      …..
[*]Maybe China too, but I’m moa

      • [*]Maybe China too, but I’m more familiar with Russian-flavored disinfo. Chinese may be hiring globalist tools like Bloomberg.

        • Nope. The Chinese don’t want the new reserve currency. It’s both a burden and a curse. We’re seeing the curse right now. They’d rather control a proxy of some sort, if they could, through some Special Drawing Rights hocus-pocus. But they know they’re not strong enough. The gold hoarding that’s been going on has not been to hit a home run, but rather just to have a chance to get up to bat. Imho.

          • Russian information operators are the best craftsmen in the world. I’m suspicious of EVERYTHING they push.

It’s written to a target market segment, conforms to that segment’s bias.I’m in that segment: whenever I’m nodding along with it, I ask myself what’s their angle?

Tulsi Gabbard and that creepy Wikileaks albino are their designated martyrs.
Therefore, they’ve got my antennae twitching. Something’s off, has to be, why does Russia love them??

          • No, I don’t mean the Chinese really want the reserve currency or the petro-yuan or any of that nonsense.

It’s just their resentment that WE have that position, that WE can use that, plus our market clout to achieve political objectives.

PTrump has exploited our economic clout to the max. He fights with sanctions, not American soldiers’ lives. All that may collapse like a house of cards, our enemies are poised like hyenas for that day.

            • Absolutely possible, yes. Our threats are existential. And the U.S. MUST stay solvent and strong for all of us. This is why I posit the unthinkable notion of you using us to “bail-in” you. We are not viable in our current vector. Do us all the favour.

And regardless of what we think the map lines will change.

  3. I’ve only glanced over these, but the Black Death in the 13th Century wiped out a third of the population in Europe. I’ve read that the Wuhan flu is more virulent than the Sars Virus.
Does any one remember how some scientists were warning a few years ago that a deadly virus was coming that we would be unprepared for?
The media as usual are stoking the flames. Yesterday there was a headline: “Death toll in Quebec climbs to 5” (Not funny if you’re one of the 5, but “climb” seems a bit of an exaggeration to associate with 5 – 300 then maybe.)
President Trump is being blamed for Hydroxychloroquine poisoning deaths in Nigeria.
A couple in BC who were filmed emptying the meat section of a store, appeared on the local Global News a day later. The man said they were just being prepared, and waited until near closing time so that people would have bought what they wanted, he felt bad, so he donated $1000 to the food bank.
The non essential stores and services are closed down in BC, but the public is reassured that the Government run liquor stores will be open with reduced hours.
No word on the Government run pot shops.

  4. There is an impressive amount of data presented in this article. I read it all and it is very informative.

It makes me wonder, again, about Rahm Emanuel and never letting disasters go to waste, the November re-election of PT, the American economy, the miserable failings of the Dems, the Hong Kong protests, unrivalled world debt, George Soros’s evil-genius-ability to realize benefit, reflexively, by poking artfully and purposefully into chaotic circumstances. Any biggest-ever wagers coming in the form of a Dollar short?

    Innocent dots without connections.

  5. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/de-blasio-if-trump-does-not-act-people-will-die

Well, here we go… Stay tuned for a non-stop festival of Trump-bashing as the left uses every single detail of the “crisis” as a weapon to attack Donald Trump with in preparation for the coming November election. What they really wanted was Trump’s tax returns so they could press impeachable false charges over his every business transaction, but barring that the COVID-19 virus will do just fine. Now they will have a thousand things they can make up anti-Trump criticism over and they will have the usual suspects to back them up, led by the New York Times and CNN. Oh, and that’s that for the pro-Trump rallies, isn’t it? Alas…

By the time the election rolls around people will have seen everything Trump has done about the virus used as an example of his total incompetence, every virus death as a murder charge against him, and his already horrible numbers will nosedive and he will lose the election to a fumbling old Joe Biden who will, in turn, do nothing but ignore things and advance the leftist plan without comment or media oversight. And you can forget about that wall and you can say goodbye to ICE and hello to millions of Guatemalans and Nicaraguans and Syrians and Afghans – all block-voting for the Democrats…

Soon, conservative Americans will realize that the game is so rigged against them that the only way they are going to be able to live in real “America” is going to be to separate and form their own country because the US will be no place for them once the Electoral College is dissolved, the First and Second Amendments are repealed and anti-white socialist bigots like AOC and Ilhan Omar are running the show and will continue to do so for the coming century.

The Democrats’ behavior is so incredibly atrocious that they leave Trump-voters no choice but to separate. The USA will be no place for a conservative once Nancy and the “Squad” are running the show and it becomes clear that the government officially hates their guts. What will be the point of trying to live with that? Best to start over again and escape their hatred. Dealing with the Democrats is like dealing with Hamas or the PLO – in other words, an impossibility…

  6. Oh, and my doctor renewed my medications over the phone, the pharmacy is going to deliver them, and I’ve got groceries coming from the Superstore via online-shopping. Other than that I am well tucked away and as quarantined as quarantined can be with the entire “Sharpe” series on file and fresh air coming in the window. Somebody remind me why the world’s economy has to be shut down over that?
