Sweden’s deadly problem with hand grenades (BBC, Apr 18, 2018)

Daniel Cuevas Zuniga was cycling home from a night shift in southern Stockholm in January when he stopped to pick up an object on the path.
Police believe the 63 year old, who worked at an elderly people’s home, thought the device was a toy.
But it was a hand grenade, which exploded as he touched it and killed him almost immediately.
His wife, Wanna, was riding ahead of him near Varby railway station. She was knocked to the ground by the blast.
Shrapnel marks can still be seen on a nearby lamppost.
“How could a hand grenade be on the bike path?” Wanna said later in an interview with local media.
“My view on Sweden has changed. I really wonder how such a thing could happen… I am completely traumatised.”
The number of explosions caused by hand grenades has increased in Sweden in recent years. There were fewer than five in 2014 but at least 20 in 2017, and a further 39 grenades were seized by police.
The devices are easily obtained, says Reine Bergland of Stockholm police. They can be bought from gangs for just a couple of hundred Swedish kroner (about £20).
“Sometimes when they buy weapons they get grenades as part of the deal. They throw in a couple of hand grenades, so to speak.”
The rise in possession of hand grenades – mainly unused stock from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s – has come to symbolise Sweden’s heated debate about violent crime as it heads towards an election in September.
The rate of violent crime in the suburbs of Sweden’s big cities has worsened in recent years, in what officials blame on rising gang-related crime.
There were 306 shootings last year, which left 41 people dead. In 2011, there were 17 fatalities.
The violence has turned some parts of Stockholm into “no-go zones” for paramedics, says Henrik Johansson, former head of Sweden’s paramedics union.
“People who live in these areas are very scared to call the police or get help from ambulances. They are scared about consequences for them and their families.”
Police have acknowledged 60 or so “vulnerable areas” but reject the description of “no-go zones”, a highly loaded term in Sweden.
After all, violent crime in Sweden and who is to blame for it has become an ideological battlefield.
In February 2017 US President Donald Trump controversially linked the problem to the influx of migrants to Sweden.
“Sweden. They took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible,” he said.
A self-proclaimed humanitarian superpower, Sweden took in the highest number of asylum seekers per capita during the migrant crisis of 2015. Many were refugees fleeing war and abuses in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea.
There is very little evidence that the migrants are to blame for a rise in violent crime. But Sweden – so often the place that countries have looked to follow on social policy – has not been so successful at integrating migrants over the past 20 years.
A short drive from the centre of Stockholm, the suburb of Rinkeby is an island of breeze-block flats and estates that even the snow struggles to beautify.
A riot last year gave the impression of a Swedish dystopia in this neighbourhood made up mainly of immigrants and their children.
But some people here are angry at the way their neighbourhoods have been stigmatised, particularly by the country’s right wing, and say they seem to be drifting away from mainstream Sweden.
Hashim and Ameen, both of Somali origin, helped set up a local anti-violence group. They accept that some types of violent crime are increasing but accuse the government of failing to invest in these areas.
“Instead of finding a solution for the complex problems you call them a ‘no-go zone’. It’s just labelling it, making it easy for police to decide for people, instead of including people in the decisions,” said Ameen.
Hashim added: “I don’t think Swedish society is very open for immigrants, there’s a lot of xenophobia.”
Sweden’s government denies it is immigrants who are causing the rise in crime.
“The people who are causing problems for us today, the vast majority of them are born in Sweden, and that’s not a notion of migration. That’s an issue of integration and an issue of social inclusion,” said Justice Minister Morgan Johansson, a centre-left Social Democrat.
“One per cent of the population in our Swedish prisons are Syrians. One percent are from Afghanistan.”
The government insists it is tough on crime and tackling its causes.
But as many people in Sweden become increasingly concerned about violence, it may be harder to convince them that accepting large numbers of migrants will not lead to further social problems down the line.
The justice minister accepts that violent crime will be an issue in September’s election but would rather voters focus on Sweden’s strong economic growth.
And the far right here are looking to emulate the successes of other anti-immigration parties elsewhere in Europe.”

There’s the problem, in one sentence. Government agencies have forcibly blindfolded law enforcement and media. There can only be one result.
Of equal importance is the sheer inanity of this article associating a hand grenade with “violent crime”. Hand grenades are not a common feature of even the most violent crime. Full Stop.
A majority of educated people will tell you that hand grenades are, more often, tools of war. What a coincidence! It sure seems like there’s a war going on in Sweden, even if the Swedes themselves refuse to admit it.
Incidentally, this killing is another excellent example of how there is no ceiling to the barbarity of Muslim terrorism. Laying about hand grenades like so many stray Easter eggs represents such a callous disregard for human life that this event goes well beyond charges of premeditated murder—which you can bet the perp will never face in a Swedish court of law—and into the realm of attacks by foreign agents in the process of a hostile invasion.
Be sure that no one in Sweden will ever admit this until the black banner of Islam is flying over Stockholm’s Riksdag. Of course, by then it will be far too late. Thank goodness that Sweden has no nuclear weapons (or even separated plutonium) for us to worry about confiscating.
That exquisite delight awaits us when either France or Britain sink into the quicksand of Islam’s desert culture.
How incredibly sad. In Minnesota, we are seeing the pathway to Islamization being prepared. Yet, there is so much fighting amongst ourselves I fear nothing much will stop it.
It will be stopped when the vast majority of the people are forced to living at risk of Islamic attacks.
This is a classic “tipping point”.
In this case, it will come when living with Muslims is more trouble than living without them.

North Korea is going to serve as a really good bellwether in this matter. Not that the Norks are Muslims, but interdicting their efforts to obtain a nuclear shield (with offensive potential) will largely be a roadmap for how we schedule and eventually terminate Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

As a teenager I spent a few months in Sweden and it was total paradise. You could leave your bicycle unlocked anywhere and street crime was unheard of. Almost any large or medium sized store also sold a splendid array of fireworks (even to us wee adolescents).
An insanely sharp Mora fishing knife cost 25¢, as did a roll of Marabou milk chocolate pastilles. Don’t even get me started about the licorice! Only Denmark has better licorice, to the tune of lakrids.boutiques (licorice boutiques) that offer some 200 kinds of black licorice (the only kind).

After visiting Douma, western media begin to question ‘gas attack’ narrative (RT, Apr 18, 2018)

“After speaking with eyewitnesses on the ground in Syria, even mainstream media are beginning to cast doubt on the West’s narrative of an alleged gas attack in Douma, as medics tell French, German and UK media it never happened.
Agence France-Presse (AFP), the world’s third largest news agency, and the Independent, a British online newspaper, have each published stories that question whether chlorine or any other chemical was used against Syrians in Eastern Ghouta on April 7.
In a French language video report, AFP spoke with Marwan Jaber, a medical student who witnessed the aftermath of the alleged attack.
“Some of [the victims] suffered from asthma and pulmonary inflammation. They received routine treatment and some were even sent home,” Jaber told AFP. “They showed no symptoms of a chemical attack. But some foreigners entered while we were in a state of chaos and sprinkled people with water, and some of them were even filming it.”
Jaber’s testimony is consistent with claims made by a Douma doctor who spoke with veteran UK journalist Robert Fisk. Although Dr. Assim Rahaibani did not personally witness what happened in the medical clinic, he said that “all the doctors” he works with “know what happened.”
According to Rahaibani, intense shelling had created dust clouds that seeped into the basements and cellars where people lived. “People began to arrive here suffering from hypoxia, oxygen loss. Then someone at the door, a ‘White Helmet’, shouted ‘Gas!’, and a panic began. People started throwing water over each other. Yes, the video was filmed here, it is genuine, but what you see are people suffering from hypoxia – not gas poisoning.”
Writing in the Independent, Fisk noted that locals he spoke with “never believed in” the gas attack stories – and that tales of President Bashar Assad’s chemical atrocities had been spread by armed Islamist groups who had imprisoned and enslaved thousands of people in Ghouta before the town was liberated by Syrian forces in April.
Meanwhile, a report aired by the German RTL Group-owned channel n-tv says it’s unclear whether the attack took place at all, given that most of the locals told them on camera they didn’t smell any chemicals at all, one local told them he remembers a “weird smell” and was fine after a glass of water, and one man, who didn’t want to show his face, insisted there was a “smell of chlorine.”
However, a local doctor told the channel: “Saturday, a week ago, we treated people with breathing problems, but chlorine or gas poisoning – no, those are different symptoms.”
All of these stories published by different outlets corroborate testimony from two men who appeared in the “gas attack” footage spread far and wide by western media and governments. Interviewed by the Russian military, the two men said they were unknowing accomplices in the gas attack ruse. “We were working and did not pay attention to who was filming us,” the first eyewitness said. “They were filming us, and then a man came in and started screaming that this was a chemical attack…People got scared and started spraying each other with water and using inhalers. Doctors told us that there was no chemical poisoning.”
Doctors and medical workers questioned by the Russian Center for Reconciliation confirmed that there had been no reports of patients suffering from chemical poisoning in Douma during the timeframe of the alleged gas attack.
The French and British media reports seem to contradict statements made by Paris and London, which have both stated unequivocally that the chemical attack did take place – and that Assad was responsible.
French President Emmanuel Macron said before Saturday’s missile strike against Syria that he had proof that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had used chlorine to attack civilians in a militant-held enclave of Eastern Ghouta.
For her part, British Prime Minister Theresa May insisted that a “significant body of information including intelligence indicates the Syrian Regime is responsible for this latest attack.””

Following the West’s attack on Syria, sharp dispute breaks out between Egypt that wants Assad to remain, & Saudi Arabia that now wants him gone
On April 14, 2018, about a week after the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad carried out a chemical attack on the town of Douma near Damascus that killed dozens, the U.S., U.K. and France launched a joint military strike on regime bases and facilities associated with its chemical weapons capabilities. The attack threw into sharp focus the controversy between the two leaders of the Arab world, Egypt and Saudi Arabia – on the Syrian issue.[1]
Even before the strike occurred, Saudi Arabia expressed firm support for military action against the Syrian regime, and Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman expressed willingness to take part in such action, “should this become necessary.”[2]
Shortly before the attack, a columnist in the Saudi government daily ‘Okaz even called on the U.S. to target Assad’s palace in Damascus in order to deter him from using chemical weapons again.[3] After the attack, the Saudi authorities welcomed it, while articles in the Saudi press criticized the U.S. and its allies for not launching a more substantial strike that could alter the power balance on the ground.
In contrast, Egypt criticized the Western countries for attacking Syria. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the “military escalation” in Syria that threatened the Syrian people, and implied that Egypt doubted the U.S. claims that the Assad regime had used chemical weapons in Douma, calling for “a transparent international investigation” of the events in the town.[4]
The government and pro-government Egyptian press went further, expressing support for the Syrian regime and calling the Western attack an unjustified act of aggression. One article even claimed that the U.S. had supplied the rebel organizations with chemical weapons so they would carry out attacks on civilians that would then be blamed on the Syrian regime.
Other articles criticized Russia and Iran for not lifting a finger to repel the attack, although both have forces in Syria.

Some of the councilors, I know personally for many years (20+) and they respect me.
I explained to them on the phone particular bad situations I lived through and others also, including those good Muslims that want to assimilate and live in their borough.
Today, those same mayors and councillrs are in bed with the Islamists.
I refuse to talk to them anymore because they will betray me. Years ago, following a particularly severe incident in an Islamic school (that I didn’t know was Islamic), they lost their $125,000 government-funding.
The Director of that particular school in 2006 was Samer Mazjoub, that same guy that produced the e-petition re Islamophobia that led to M-103.
You would not believe what happened to me at that school back in 2006. It’s frightening to know that these students are now adults living among us.

Maybe it’s my computer although it’s fine all day until 22h00. I’ll have to buy a new computer to figure out what’s happening.
What I notice is some places, no problems, other places major problems. Just very weird.
Do yourself a flavor, write down all of your systems specs and a complete description of the screen malfunction. Also, capture the URLs of whichever websites give you major problems.
Also, if you have a smart phone, consider taking a video clip of when the screen goes all wonky. You’d be surprised at how often just one peculiar feature of a virus will help identify it right away.
You could even consider signing up a Quora.com and posting a question there about what your computer’s symptoms indicate.
Be sure to include all the different software types and rev numbers. If you have a laptop, all the better. Bring it along.
Then call or drop by some of your local independent computer repair stores. You’ll find their staff to be quite helpful. Just keep moving along until someone gives you some straight answers.
Whatever you do, don’t spend all your money on another computer until you’re positive that yours is beyond help.

At the same time, it will work to further enhance the diversity of applicants, notably by broadening its outreach and further developing diversity communication channels.

South Korea and a U.S.-led U.N. force are technically still at war with North Korea and the idea of an official peace deal to change that is neither new, nor something that can be resolved in a single inter-Korean summit, analysts say.
South Korean leaders at the time opposed the idea of a truce that left the peninsula divided, and were not signatories to the armistice, which was officially signed by the commander of North Korea’s army; the American commander of the U.N. Command; and the commander of the “Chinese People’s volunteers”, who were not officially claimed by Beijing at the time.

If there ever was going to be peace, it would have happened long, long ago.
In terms of diplomatic prowess or leadership, Jong Un is a mere shadow of his father and grandfather. He is a pampered, spoiled brat who has inherited the reins of power as a matter of default more than due to any sense of qualification.
Given his congenitally truculent nature, it is irrational to presume that Jong Un would voluntarily surrender his grasp on North Korea’s helm. None of which precludes him from disingenuously engaging in endless rounds of high-level “talks” and “negotiations”, all of which routinely lead to nowhere.
Just like Islam, the only thing that Jong Un will understand is a serious beatdown.
He is playing for time and Trump and company know this, they are playing for time to 1) rebuild our military and 2) bring pressure to bear on China so if China doesn’t remove Kim and seize all North Korean nucks and all fissile material they will stay out of our way while we do the job.

Why does the image spring to mind of someone sawing off the tree limb that they are perched on?

It is common knowledge that the ancient Romans had slaves. It is known that many Europeans in the middle ages had little personal liberties. Moreover, the English word of ‘Slave’ comes from the name of the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe, as they have a long history of being taken as slaves. The Slavs were taken by the Viking raiders, who would sell them on the slave markets of the Eastern Roman Empire and of the Islamic Caliphate. The Vikings also took Western European captives as slaves, though in relatively small numbers. Furthermore, the Viking raids ended at the start of the 2nd millennium.
The Ottomans would terrorize the Balkans after their capture of Constantinople. Bulgarians, Romanians, Macedonians and so on, all the Christians in the Balkans supplied slaves for the Ottoman Empire. However, this slavery was restricted to the Balkans, and it did not affect the rest of Europe.
The fact that until the 19th century Europeans were being captured and taken as slaves, is hardly known. Any European living on the coast, or daring to board a ship, was under threat of being attacked by the Barbary pirates. It was a slave trade that started around the middle ages, after the Muslims had captured North-Africa.

A deprived district of Toulouse, France has been rocked by two nights of furious riots, triggered by the arrest of a woman who refused to remove her Islamic full-face veil for police. Some 18 people were arrested.
Hundreds of police units were deployed after young residents threw stones, torched cars and set fire to garbage cans, police told the AFP. The clashes began on Sunday afternoon in the Toulouse district of Bellefontaine after a woman wearing a full-face veil – which is illegal in France – was stopped by the police for an identity check.

OTTAWA | The federal government is asking the Couillard government to reconsider its threat to stop hosting more refugee claimants starting next week, a decision that Ottawa says would “an unacceptable humanitarian situation.”
In a letter sent to his provincial counterpart, which Le Journal obtained on Tuesday, the Minister of Immigration condemned Quebec’s decision to limit its capacity to receive irregular migrants.
“We must avoid causing undue suffering to families in search of protection,” writes Ahmed Hussen.
Quebec announced at the beginning of the week its intention to limit to 1850 places the capacity of its four temporary accommodation centers. But behind the scenes in Ottawa, it is argued that the province artificially reduces the number of beds available.
In his letter, Minister Hussen says that last summer Quebec had 13 temporary shelters to accommodate asylum seekers. This situation is likely to “create delays at the border and lead to an unacceptable humanitarian situation”.

Protesters have blocked off the Canada High Commission with a giant oil pipeline they built around the building with the slogan “Crudeau Oil”.
As Justin Trudeau touches down in London for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting, climbers also scaled two entrance pillars to drop banners labelling the embassy “Crudeau Oil HQ”.
It is a protest against Mr Trudeau’s government’s plans to build an oil pipeline nearly 1,000km long from tar sands in the province of Alberta over indigenous lands to ports in the western province of British Columbia.
The protest pipeline was installed at 6am by 30 Greenpeace volunteers and runs from the main entrance of Canada House to the consular entrance on Cockspur Street.

A sweeping $27-million lawsuit against the federal government brought by a Sudanese-Canadian who was detained overseas — and not allowed to return home for six years — is headed back to court, CBC News has learned.
The Justice Department had been involved in settlement talks with Abousfian Abdelrazik but abruptly walked away from a recently scheduled mediation session, said Abdelrazik’s lawyer.
“They said they could not provide us with any reasons,” said Paul Champ. “They were looking more at the polls than at their principles, and, unfortunately, I think that’s probably why they withdrew.”
Contacted by CBC News Monday, CSIS did not respond and a spokesperson for the justice minister referred questions to Public Safety.

The head of the conservative House Freedom Caucus has asked the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to take a closer look at emails and texts between demoted FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page that previously had been given to Congress.
In a letter to Oversight Committee chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., claimed recently uncovered documents “suggest a concerning level of coordination between the Department of Justice and the FBI throughout crucial moments of the investigation into [Hillary] Clinton’s private email server.”
Meadows’ claim contradicts repeated statements by former FBI Director James Comey, who has said the bureau and the DOJ did not coordinate on his July 2016 statement recommending Clinton not be charged for keeping classified information on her personal email server.

Authorities in Pennsylvania were searching Wednesday for more than 640 pounds of high explosives that were reportedly stolen over the weekend from a work site in Lancaster County.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the recovery.
A contracting company reported the theft Monday, the Lebanon Daily News reported. The missing explosives include 640 pounds of dynamite and 400 blasting caps, the report said. A blasting cap is used to trigger an explosive device.

House lawmakers on Tuesday approved a last-minute amendment to remove $250,000 allocated to the city of Memphis as punishment for the removal of Confederate monuments.
The amendment, which was approved with a 56-31 vote, was introduced as a result of Memphis officials’ decision to remove two controversial statues on public property last year.
