Right after the bomb went off news services both in Russia and the West did their level best to try and force people’s gaze away from Islam as the culprit. I remember reading several reports including stratfor trying to suggest that it was some other terrorist group.

Russian security agencies have linked a man from the Caucasus to the April 11 explosion on the Minsk metro, RIA Novosti reported April 18, citing radio station Ekho Moskvy and Lifenews. It is believed that a resident of Stavropol territory, Viktor Dvorakovskiy, known to North Caucasus police as the Russian Wahhabi, was involved in the attack. The Russian Federal Security Service started investigating Dvorakovskiy’s involvement a few hours after the explosion and visited his mother and the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Stavropol to try to find his location. According to RIA Novosti, the spokesman for the Belarusian prosecutor general said the office did not take the allegations seriously.
