Terror plot most serious yet in Denmark-minister

Three Swedes were among five people arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of preparing to commit a terrorist act in Denmark, the Swedish police have confirmed.

Four of the suspects were arrested in Denmark and one in Sweden, with four resident in Sweden, and three of them Swedish citizens, according to a statement from the Swedish Security Service (Säpo).
“A serious terror crime in Denmark has been prevented by efficient and close cooperation between (Danish security service) PET and the Security Service,” said Anders Danielsson at the Security Service in the statement.
The Danish intelligence agency PET said Wednesday that the men are suspected of having been preparing an attack against the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, which published the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
“These arrests have successfully stopped an imminent terror attack, where several of the suspects … were going to force their way into the (building which houses the Jyllands-Posten newspaper) in Copenhagen and kill as many people as possible,” PET head Jacob Scharf said in a statement.
The Swedish police are continuing to offer support to their Danish colleagues in the investigation and the suspects with a connection to Sweden are also subject to a preliminary investigation in Sweden.
The case is subject to confidentiality and the police stated that no further information will be divulged for the time being. The Danish intelligence service is however planning to hold a press conference at 5pm on Wednesday.
The suspects are not thought to have any connection to the attempted bombing in Stockholm on December 11th this year and have neither impacted the terror threat level against Sweden, according to the statement.
