India: Shoot-On-Sight Orders Issued In Hyderabad
March 30, 2010
Police in Hyderabad have been given orders to shoot on sight anyone carrying lethal weapons, stones or sticks in the Old City area following Hindu-Muslim clashes, Indo-Asian News Service reported March 30, citing a statement by Andhra Pradesh state Police Chief Girish Kumar. Two people have been killed and more than 110 have been arrested since the riots broke out March 27, and Kumar said a curfew will be imposed in eight more police districts. A loosening of the curfew will be considered on March 31. India’s opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a judicial probe on the riots.
