Incredible. And the remarkable thing is that the forces at play that make this poor man wonder about Germany’s justice system have affected most every western country in lockstep. It only seems to depend on the progressive inclination of any judge to have this scenario repeated.
This “quick release”policy exists in the Netherlands as well.
I remember a frustrated policeman who tweeted about a man who attacked him out of the blue. He managed to subdue and arrest him, but he was released from the station before the officer was out of hospital (minor injuries).
I believe they do this because the chances of the man being convicted are so slim, the courts drop hundreds of cases every day. I don’t think that’s the case in Germany, but not sure.
