Interesting, just when we have a President who is getting a handle on the Iranian problem and possibly solving it we have another threat raising in the Middle East. One that will force us to remain allied with Saudi for a few decades longer.
As Mark Twain said history doesn’t repeat but it rhymes, the second overseas enemy the US had was the Ottoman Empire, the Barbary Pirate’s that we fought a war with were the Naval units of the various Ottoman pro consuls in North Africa.
As a historical note that was the war that caused the US Marines to increase in number and the school started by the Captain of hte USS Philadelphia in the prison at Tripoli grew into the US Naval Academy. There is a combat vessel in the US Navy named after Captain William Bainbridge, that is one of the names that will always be in commission.
Egypt is the most populous Arab state. A REAL state, as opposed to family gas stations with flags. NONE of the monarchies is stable.
The Gulfies pay for mercenaries. Like us, in their eyes. As well as – what they call “meat” – contractors from all over the Third World. We get to train them to use our expensive weapons.
Erdogan at it again.. I didn’t know about arming BH. I’ve read though that he’s providing aid to places like Chad and Sudan. The aid has strings attached oc, in the form of islamist indoctrination. The propaganda is very anti-western too, as if the people there didn’t hate us alredy.
Raymond Ibrahim: Turkey: Arming Genocide of Christians in Nigeria?
Weapons flows into Tunisia and Algeria are NOT endearing the wannabe-Sultan to his neighbors no matter how much they like his soap-operas.
Jumpin’ Jupiter Macron might play proxy war against the filthy Turk at some point. North Africa analogous to Spain in the Civil War (1936-39), used by Hitler and Stalin as a warm-up for WW-2.
Units of “French” mercenaries are getting experience for the eventual war in Europe. Hardened, hybrid EuroTards with battlefield experience, trying out the weapons that are keeping our economies afloat.
Job, jobs, jobs.
The mess is west of Libya, the Sahel: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, Mauritania. Tuareg separatists, assorted al-Q and other-flavor jihadi mercenaries fighting a UN stabilization force and whatnot.

The Ottomans are back – what does that mean for Israel?

Good way to dispose of excess moderate jihadis.
