Ricky Gervais licence plate joke explained

Back in March 2019, we did an interview with Brad Johnson over the vulgar and corrupt scandal of elitist rich zHollywood actors bribing Ivy League schools to accept and graduate otherwise mediocre kids. A scandal doubly insulting as it comes from such sanctimonious socialists as the ones mentioned in Ricky Gervais’ excellent roast at the Golden Globes this weekend.

This explains both the licence plate joke, as the actress mentioned was one of the ones caught and surprisingly jailed for this, although only for 11 days, and also Mr. Gervais’ excellent admonition that none of those people have a moral position to lecture the rest of us on our behaviour.

So this seems like a good time to repost that interview with Brad.

And here is the routine where the joke lives:

  1. OK – I was born and raised on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain.

Perhaps that is why I could not understand why the license plate joke needed to be explained…but what Brad said is correct – with a few caveats.

  2. There is something about passive-aggression in speech that the British – stuck on an island – do so well.

I do not think Ricky is the best of British Fop to explode from their shores, but an inexperienced America takes delight at the inversion and unsubtle insult, as Art.

    Mockney. Dick-van-Dyke.

Yes, that must be why I dislike this sort of humor. The audience forcing smiles, it’s all mean and ugly.
