“The Japanese emperor speaks”
A sticking point in the Japanese surrender terms had been Hirohito’s status as emperor. Tokyo wanted the emperor’s status protected; the Allies wanted no preconditions. There was a compromise. The emperor retained his title; Gen. Douglas MacArthur believed his at least ceremonial presence would be a stabilizing influence in postwar Japan. But Hirohito was forced to disclaim his divine status. Japan lost more than a war—it lost a god.

“MacArthur orders end of Shinto as Japanese state religion”
Step two was the dismantling of Shintoism as the Japanese national religion. Allied powers believed that serious democratic reforms, and a constitutional form of government, could not be put into place as long as the Japanese people looked to an emperor as their ultimate authority. Hirohito was forced to renounce his divine status, and his powers were severely limited—he was reduced to little more than a figurehead. And not merely religion, but even compulsory courses on ethics—the power to influence the Japanese population’s traditional religious and moral duties—were wrenched from state control as part of a larger decentralization of all power.

VIGELAND: I understand that Hirohito’s recorded message almost didn’t make it to the radio station at all. Why was that?
KOO: There was a young group of officers that are very much in favor of continuing the fight. And when they heard wind of the emperor getting ready to surrender – and this is, you know, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki – the only recourse they had was trying to intercept that message so that it doesn’t get to the broadcasting station.
VIGELAND: And so did that happen? Did the attempt happen?
KOO: I don’t think the attempt happens only because the attendance of the emperor was successful in secreting this out of the palace grounds by a secure route that the officers were not aware of. And by the time the officers found out that the cat was out of the bag, the broadcast had already taken place.

The welfare of the wounded and the war sufferers and of those who lost their homes and livelihood is the object of our profound solicitude. The hardships and sufferings to which our nation is to be subjected hereafter will be certainly great.
We are keenly aware of the inmost feelings of all of you, our subjects. However, it is according to the dictates of time and fate that we have resolved to pave the way for a grand peace for all the generations to come by enduring the [unavoidable] and suffering what is unsufferable. Having been able to save *** and maintain the structure of the Imperial State, we are always with you, our good and loyal subjects, relying upon your sincerity and integrity.
Beware most strictly of any outbursts of emotion that may engender needless complications, of any fraternal contention and strife that may create confusion, lead you astray and cause you to lose the confidence of the world.
Let the entire nation continue as one family from generation to generation, ever firm in its faith of the imperishableness of its divine land, and mindful of its heavy burden of responsibilities, and the long road before it. Unite your total strength to be devoted to the construction for the future. Cultivate the ways of rectitude, nobility of spirit, and work with resolution so that you may enhance the innate glory of the Imperial State and keep pace with the progress of the world.

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
– St. Augustine of Hippo
A man fell into a hole
Blindly got in – can’t recall.
“Meditate!” the first said
“Retrace your steps to your fall!”
The second told him that fears were imaginary
“Move mountains – not stare at the wall!”
The third told him to remain positive
“With faith you’ll get through this all!”
And The fourth told him he was not god
“Pride cannot make you stand tall!”
But he just lay there – the poor victim
Riding Christians to take to their hall.
Destroying Nations within.
‘Twas not Jesus, but only St Paul.
“I’m saved!” But from what?
Avoiding a curse and a bawl?
Then what’s going to stop you
Falling right back down that hole?
Changing your name
Copying the scrawl,
Degrees from college
To make us all small.
Scaring the children.
Face your thorns Saul.
“Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me”
When you do not repent and only submit; the conversion of taking on a new slave name will not save you. The the Thorns of Satan stay and chase you all your life; measuring good and evil.
Convincing everyone to not look at you but at the good works of the hand; or removing the evil by blowing yourself up and them – to avoid their mischief and ridicule.
Grace and mercy. Subs and Doms.
This is what worms live by: Visions. Imaginings. Angels and Jinns. Until the worst of both come to kill you.
When the truth sets you free.
Grace alone. Mercy alone. Virtue-Signalling or Submission. When they find out it doesn’t work – with the poverty that continually surrounds them – there is hell to pay.
