Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Germany: Dead woman found in accommodation – Asylum seekers attack policemen with stones – large contingent of police in action+++
On today’s Saturday morning, there was a death in a accommodation for asylum seekers in Regensburg. A dead woman was lying in the shelter. The rescue service was only able to determine the death of the woman. The reason for this is still unclear and the subject of police investigations. During the police operation, the rescue and police forces were harassed and attacked by residents of the shelter. The atmosphere among some of the residents heated up so that it was not possible to recover the body. The police forces that followed were thrown with stones and other objects. The police were at the facility with a large contingent. Also the negotiating group of the police headquarters Oberpfalz is in action to get in contact with the inhabitants. • My, oh my. The final panel shows reparations coming into play. Like sharia’s jizya, this is just another, “Tax Upon Those Who can be Looted”.

Although, more recently even that levy has become even more inequitable and selective by equal measures. It is now a, “Tax Upon Those Whom it is Politically Expedient to Loot”.

Curiously, those squealing loudest about “reparations” are doing all of jack shit to trace the real Islamic roots of African slavery, much less FUCKALL to halt modern-day enslavement by Muslims.

      These reparationists can sod themselves.

  3. Germany debates ‘mosque tax’ to replace foreign funding

Support is growing in Germany for a “mosque tax” to make Islamic institutions less dependent on potentially anti-democratic or “radical” foreign funding sources, a media report said Sunday.

The federal government sees it as “a possible path”, according to an answer to a parliamentary query, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported.
    ADVERTISING

Several of Germany’s 16 states had also signalled support in principle for the idea which would mirror Germany’s voluntary Christian “church tax”, the rnewspaper said.

Concern has grown in Germany about the influence of foreign funding sources on mosques for the country’s estimated five million Muslims, who hail mostly from Turkey and Arab countries.

Some 900 mosques in Germany are run by the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (Ditib), under the authority of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.

  4. How facial recognition became a routine policing tool in America
The technology is proliferating amid concerns that it is prone to errors and allows the government to expand surveillance without much oversight.

In August 2017, a woman contacted the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado with what seemed like a simple case: After a date at a bowling alley, she’d discovered $400 missing from her purse and asked the manager to review the surveillance footage, which showed her companion snatching the cash while she bowled a frame.

But despite the clear evidence, the search for the bowling companion floundered. The woman knew only his first name. He’d removed his profile from the dating site on which they’d met. His number, now disconnected, was linked to a hard-to-trace “burner” phone. Security video captured his car in the parking lot, but not its license plate.

GENEVA (Reuters) – The United States’ military presence in the Gulf used to be a serious threat but now it is an opportunity, a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

The U.S. military has sent forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to the Middle East to counter what U.S. officials have said are “clear indications” of threats from Iran to its forces there.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is replacing another carrier rotated out of the Gulf last month.

  6. Ocasio-Cortez: We need a non-profit public option for banking services
By Ben Bowles May 12, 2019

If you liked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, you’ll love her latest proposal: establishing a government-run not-for-profit “public option” for banking services. And the best part is that she wants to model the program on the United States Postal Service (USPS), the least successful government-run business in the history of the cosmos. According to the Associated Press (via the Boston Globe), the USPS ended up in the red for its twelfth straight year in 2018, posted a loss of $3.9 billion.

The former economics major unveiled her novel plan last Thursday during at an economic brainstorming session with fellow socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, who proposed the equally brilliant idea of capping credit card interest rates at 15%. Apparently Sanders, who grew up in New York City, learned nothing from its ill-fated experiment raising the minimum wage for restaurant workers to $15 an hour.

Here is Ocasio-Cortez laying out her proposal:

    By J.E. Dyer May 11, 2019

President Trump gave Politico a brief interview on Friday, and while he did say other things, the main thing anyone heard in the blah blah blah was “Pete Buttigieg” and “Alfred E. Neuman.”

This was probably because Politico titled the piece “Trump’s new nickname for Pete Buttigieg: ‘Alfred E. Neuman.’”

The exchange with Trump on Buttigieg was brief, but epic.

  8. (Richard: The headline is slightly misleading, the way it reads is that they didn’t need to use illegal means to get the FISA warrent. What is is suppose to say is they knew that no crime had been committed and that no investigation was needed.)

Getting FISA authority illegally, as now looks probable, was unnecessary. Why was it done?
    By J.E. Dyer May 11, 2019

This week we learned from John Solomon at The Hill that the FBI knew before the first application for FISA authorization against Trump campaign aide Carter Page that key information in the Steele dossier was flawed. Yet it was advanced as justification for the FISA surveillance anyway, and with apparent misrepresentation of the Bureau’s compliance with its own Woods procedures.

In particular, according to notes made by a State Department official during a brief she received from Christopher Steele, a key detail about one of the dossier’s allegations was false – in fact, ridiculously so. Solomon recounts it here:

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/05/11/getting-fisa-authority-illegally-as-now-looks-probable-was-unnecessary-why-was-it-done/

Richard: This article is well worth the time it takes to read, it spells out the criminal actions taken to use the US Law Enforcement and Intelligence agencies to spy on a political opponent.

These “Third World” political tactics are proving to be the straw that broke the camels back. The investigations into these illegal actions are leading to the highest office in the US and shows the promise of sending many of the criminal politicians to jail. The high probability that high ranking members of the Obama Administration will be sent to the pen for their criminal actions is scaring the Dems and is driving their irrational attacks on President Trump and his family.

The actions of the Dems have made many people aware of how crooked the Dems have become and how they are perverting the US government agencies that are suppose to protect us to political actors that are working to oppress us. Their actions have damaged the reputation of the FBI and the CIA to the extent that it will take many decades to restore trust in the agencies that are suppose to protect us. It also shows why the Second Amendment as adopted by the States, the purpose of the Second Amendment is self defense, not hunting but self defense both personal defense and collective defense. We are headed into a civil war brought on by the people who want to be totalitarians who oppose an armed populace. The Spygate scandal show why the public body as a whole must be well enough armed to be able to defend our freedoms from people who want to take our rights from us.

It’s a Trap: Giuliani Cancels Ukraine Trip, Fearing a ‘Setup’

After a full day of media hysteria, Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani announced Friday evening that he has canceled his trip to Ukraine. “I’ve decided I’m not going to go to Ukraine, Giuliani told Fox News’ Shannon Bream. He said that the reason he bailed is because he has discovered that the president of Ukraine is surrounded by political enemies and is convinced that he was about to walk into a trap.

Giuliani had planned “to visit Kiev and meet with president-elect Volodymyr Zelensky to ask that Ukraine pursue investigations into two matters,” the Washington Examiner reported:

ven for Democrats who want to impeach and remove President Trump, they know the waters of this are murky, choppy, and loaded with peril. You cannot go off half-cocked. One minor misstep can lead to political blowback that could all but assure a second term for Donald Trump—and with this current crop of Democrat, there are a lot of loudmouths who could mess things up. I’m not complaining about that. I hope Democrats continue to reach full froth on impeachment and Russian collusion because they’re looking totally insane. And if Nancy Pelosi wants to keep her caucus from going totally off the reservation, she better speak to Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who said that the Democrats just have to impeach Trump…because he will get a second term. Green sad this during an MSNBC interview on May 4 (via Free Beacon):

Venezuela’s Guaido seeks U.S. Pentagon cooperation to solve political crisis

    3 Min Read

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido said on Saturday he has asked his envoy to the United States to meet with Pentagon officials to “cooperate” on a solution to the South American country’s political crisis.

Guaido, the leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, added he had received word from China that the country would join a diplomatic effort between European and Latin American countries, known as the International Contact Group on Venezuela, to negotiate an end to the crisis.

In January, Guaido invoked the OPEC nation’s constitution to assume an interim presidency, arguing President Nicolas Maduro’s 2018 re-election was illegitimate. He has been recognized by most Western and Latin American countries, but Maduro has retained the support of allies China, Russia and Cuba.

Guaido’s effort to oust Maduro so he can take power and call new elections has stalled in recent weeks, after an attempted military uprising on April 30 was put down. Guaido told an Italian newspaper this week that he would “probably” accept a U.S. military intervention if the United States proposed it.

    Massacres of Christians

Nigeria: A number of fatal Islamic terror attacks targeting Christians occurred throughout February:

February 10: Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed 10 Christians and an unborn child. Armed herdsmen in large numbers had surrounded the Christian village around 11 p.m. the night before. “We heard gun shots, and this forced me and my family to remain in our bedrooms as it was difficult for us to run out of the house,” said one survivor. “The Fulani gunmen surrounded our house and were shooting and shouting, ‘Allahu akbar’ [‘Allah is greatest’]. They killed my father, mother, two brothers, and one of my sisters-in-law.” The attack came as a complete surprise, even for the village head: “We have never had any misunderstanding with the Fulani herdsmen, so I don’t know why they attacked our village,” he said. “Ten members of my community, including a pregnant woman, were killed during the attack, thus making the unborn child to be the eleventh victim.”

February 12: In the northeast, Boko Haram jihadis invaded four Christian communities, killing several Christians and displacing many others. “I saw a man who I know to be a Christian and a member of the Church of the Brethren in Shuwa, my home town, shot to death,” said one eyewitness. “Also, Bulama, a community leader in Madagali, was shot dead alongside many Christians.”

February 26: Muslim Fulani herdsmen slaughtered at least 32 people in Maro, a Christian village in north-central Nigeria. Churches were also damaged and a boarding school shut down. “We ran out of the church building as the shooting was going on,” said a woman who was in a Bible study class when the raid began. “Many have been killed, and I have not seen my family members since morning. I have escaped out of the area.” Another local Christian said, “The armed herdsmen are shooting anyone they see and are setting fire on houses and church buildings.”

Reported on February 25: Muslim herdsmen attacked a Christian wedding celebration, killing 12 people. “From behind the hill overlooking this village emerged armed Fulani herdsmen who shot indiscriminately at Christians from various churches here at the venue of the feast,” said one local. “Twelve Christians who are members of various churches were shot dead instantly, while another five Christians were injured.” Six of those murdered were children.

  15. Europe’s Three Concerns About Iran

    by Amir Taheri
    May 12, 2019 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14206/europe-concerns-iran

Talking to European think-tankers and policymakers in recent weeks, one gets the impression that, seen from Europe, Iran is a recurring nightmare that everyone wishes would go away. A couple of years ago, many in Europe believed that it had faded into oblivion. Now, however, the nightmare is back with a vengeance, with drums of war beating in the background.

The truth is that, apart from wishing it would go away, the European Union has never had a coherent policy for dealing with the nightmare. Eight years of President Barack Obama’s dancing around the Iran issue enabled the Europeans to postpone serious analysis of the situation in the Islamic Republic.

That, in turn, seems to have led the Europeans to gingerly rally to the hardline posture adopted by the Trump administration in Washington. Judging by the current discussions in European policy circles, the European powers may well throw their weight behind Trump’s policy of “maximum pressure” during the forthcoming G7 summit in France in August.

In informal talks, European policymakers and advisers express three concerns regarding the “maximum pressure” strategy.

    • Will the current mess in Iran lead to war? Maybe, there is a faction in Iran that wants a war that will bring back the Mahdi, there are others who want to recreate the Persian Empire then there are the people who want to get in modern tech to solve their water and agriculture problems. History will end up telling us which side wins.

      • And there are those who’ve hived off to Latin America and Africa (and Dearborn, Michigan!), converting Sunnis and others to their version of the death cult.

Roots. Significant communities abroad, the last 40 years have been busy.

      • The Norm Is NOT Democracy – the Norm Is Extinction

Before we wax too eloquent about the democratic aspirations of the great Iranian people, we should keep in the mind that the most probable scenario for Iran under any likely regime is a sickening spiral into poverty and depopulation.

Iran has the fastest-aging population of any country in the world, indeed, the fast-aging population of any country in history. It has the highest rate of venereal disease infection and the highest rate of infertility of any country in the world. It has a youth unemployment rate of 35% (adjusted for warehousing young people in state-run diploma mills). And worst of all, it has run out of water.…

Add up the costs of dealing with the water emergency, the bank crisis and the pension crisis, and Iran is close to broke. And that’s just the beginning: The average working-age Iranian today comes from a family of seven children, but has fewer than two children.

That means that when the older generation retires, there will be fewer than two new entrants into the workforce to pay for the pensions of seven retirees. The demographic crisis hasn’t hit yet, and when it does, it will be the financial equivalent of an asteroid hitting Iran.

In other words, Iran’s exhaustion of physical as well as human capital may have pushed it past the point of no return.…

This makes the mullahs all the more dangerous, like a bank robber with a brain tumor who takes hostages. I sincerely wish a happy outcome for the people of Persia. But we need to be prepared for a very unhappy one.

        https://pjmedia.com/spengler/norm-not-democracy-norm-extinction/

    • There’s another dimension: the white-hot religious fervor has greatly diminished inside Iran.

      The Secular Republic of Iran
In a theocracy, political protests will always have religious implications.

      [paywall, so I’ll quote excerpts]
The Islamic Republic has been an outlier in the Muslim Middle East since the 1989 death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founding father of the revolution and one of the most charismatic personalities in Islamic history. As Arab states and Turkey enhanced their religious identity and fortified fundamentalism, Iran moved in the opposite direction…. If Islam in Iran is about everything, then Islam is about nothing.…

The mullahs’ system is stuck: It can’t evolve into a real democracy, and it can’t resuscitate the religious militancy that once sustained the theocracy and drew tens of thousands of new recruits into the clergy. Despite providing a route to power and wealth, Iran’s seminaries have seen plummeting enrollments. The common sense of revolutionary mission—the hunt for equality, justice, fraternity and martyrdom—now seems distant.…

Mosques all over Iran are empty at prayer times. In 2015 a Revolutionary Guard commander, Ziaeddin Hozni, revealed that only about 3,000 of the country’s 57,000 Shiite mosques were fully operational. And of the 3,000, some were only functioning during the religious months of Ramadan and Muharram. The Shiites have usually been less diligent than Sunnis in mosque attendance, but lack of attendance is striking in an explicitly Shiite state run by mullahs.

      https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-secular-republic-of-iran-1515111062

    • The Crack-up of Theocracy

It is odd to hear Westerners, hopelessly permeated with Marxism, dissect the nationwide Iranian protests as primarily an economic eruption, the suggestion being that the demonstrators are not that dyspeptic about the nature of the Islamic Republic.…

Economics and politics are, of course, always intertwined. Politics and God unavoidably intersect. And threaded around and through everything in Iran is an ever-evolving Islamic culture, which, if one follows the anxious writings of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, is in trouble.

We are not watching in Iran the aftershocks of an increase in the price of eggs and poultry in Khorasan Province. We are watching the continuing crack-up of theocracy, which for the ruling elite was the entire point of the Islamic revolution….

If we look back to the late 1980s, when the revolutionary esprit had been badly battered by the killing fields of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and by the brutality of Khomeini’s police state, we can see the spiritual, political, and economic cracks in the regime that today have turned into chasms.…

The rest of Iran is becoming like Tehran. Large-scale urbanization, which started under Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has gained enormous speed under the mullahs.…

The great revolutionary foundations and owqaf trusts, charities historically built upon land bequests, have essentially become mafia networks, inevitably under the control of the politicized, corrupt ruling clergy, ultimately under the guidance of the supreme leader and those mullahs he trusts. In many parts of the country, they dominate economic life.…

Khamenei…[a] charisma-free, religiously lightweight cleric has prospered in the Middle East’s most charisma-worshiping, cleric-heavy society. One thing is crystal clear…his religious writ is finished.… So, too, Rouhani’s presidency.

The ideological constructs both mullahs have used to justify their rule are done. Neither Tehran nor the provinces see Khamenei as “the shadow of God on earth.” …

The regime’s internal propaganda about their foreign missions—an effort to cast Iranian foreign policy as a call to save Shiite Muslims from Saudi-, U.S.-, and Zionist-supported Sunni extremists…should, in theory, strongly resonate…. Yet the provincials don’t appear to be buying it.…

  19. 6 Killed as Gunmen Attack Church in Burkina Faso During Sunday Mass – Report (sputniknews, May 12, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201905121074941540-burkina-faso-church-attack/

“Six people, including a priest, were killed on Sunday, in an attack on a Catholic church in Dablo, northern Burkina Faso, AFP reported.

“Around 9 a.m., during a mass, armed individuals burst into the Catholic Church. They started firing as the churchgoers tried to flee,” Dablo Mayor Ousmane Zongo told AFP.

A security source told the agency that the attack was carried out by a “group of armed men estimated [to number] between twenty and thirty.”

In late April, several armed people attacked a Protestant church in Silgdji in the north of the country, killing five churchgoers and the pastor. The April attack was the first attack on a church since 2015.

The attacks comes as the authorities of Burkina Faso have launched a massive anti-terrorist operation in the eastern and central-eastern regions of the country.”

  20. Berlin Mulls Curbing Foreign Influence With ‘Mosque Tax’ – Report (sputniknews, May 12, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201905121074944045-mosque-tax-funding-influence-debates/

“A recent survey conducted in Germany reportedly revealed that some of the country’s states affirmed that local mosque communities should be able to finance themselves.

The German federal government may consider implementing a so-called “mosque tax” in order to deal with the country’s Muslim institutions’ dependency on funding from abroad, the local Welt am Sonntag newspaper reports.

According to the newspaper, Berlin regards this measure as “a possible path”, with several of Germany’s states already expressing their support in principle to implement the new tax which would mirror the already-existing “church tax”.

The prospects of this new fiscal measure were brought forward amid concerns about the possibility of foreign funding sources being used to exert influence over mosques and, by extension, the country’s vast Muslim population.

For example, 900 of the country’s mosques are being run by the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (Ditib), whose imams get paid by Ankara.
Some mosques have also come under government scrutiny or even been closed for “preaching radical and militant Islamist ideas”.

While the newspaper also added, citing its own survey, that several states affirmed that “mosque communities in Germany should be able to finance themselves”, the interior ministry for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania said it was open to “mosque financing based on the church model” to curb foreign influence along with “the danger of possible radicalisation”.

A Baden-Wuerttemberg state interior ministry spokesman also warned of the threat of foreign influence “on theological content and political opinion”, which, in the worst-case scenario, might include “radical Islamist or anti-democratic content or aspirations”.”

    • If the wogs can not afford to maintain their stinking mosques ,why should the germans have to pay?It is obvious that there are too many,so to balance the books most of them should be closed.

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1126064/migrant-crisis-rescue-kent-coast

“UP TO 25 suspected migrants, including eight children, have been rescued off the coast of Kent.

A lifeboat in Dover rescused a boat thought to be carrying five adults and eight children – some as young as two years old, according to Sky News. It is understood that Border Force was deployed to intercept a second vessel, which was carrying up to 12 adults and heading towards Folkstone. The incidents were both caught on camera.

This comes after 16 suspected migrants, including two children, were also rescused while crossing the Channel yesterday.

French authorities alerted Border Force to the small boat heading towards Kent in the early hours of the morning before they were intercepted.

The Home Office said they were believed to be from Iran and Iraq.
Earlier this month, seven suspected migrants, who said they were Iranian, were found off the Kent coast and handed over to immigration officers.

Spain became the leading entry point to Europe last year, with some 60,000 migrants arriving irregularly, almost all of them by sea…”

“Libya’s coast guard says it has rescued nearly 150 Europe-bound migrants, including women and children, off the country’s Mediterranean coast.

Spokesman Ayoub Gassim said Sunday that a rubber boat carrying 96 migrants, including 16 women and four children, was intercepted a day earlier off the city of Zawiya, 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Tripoli.

Gassim said another boat carrying 51 migrants was intercepted Saturday off the town of Khoms, some 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Tripoli.

He said the migrants were given humanitarian and medical aid, then taken to refugee camps.

Tony Blair says the main political parties could be swept away in a “silent revolution” if there is a no-deal Brexit.

The former Prime Minister told Sophy Ridge the government should present all options on Brexit to parliament – and then put whatever is approved to the people in another public vote.

He added it would be a “healing process” because voters would be able to make a much more informed decision compared with 2016.

UAE Says 4 Ships Targeted by ‘Sabotage’ off Its East Coast
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates say “sabotage operations” have been conducted against four commercial ships off its eastern coast.

Emirati officials declined to elaborate on the nature of the sabotage or say who might have been responsible. However, the reported incident comes as the U.S. has warned ships that “Iran or its proxies” could be targeting maritime traffic in the region, and as America is deploying an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to the Persian Gulf to counter alleged threats from Tehran.

After initial denial, UAE confirms ships ‘sabotaged’ off its coast

    Press TV – May 12, 2019

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed, after initial denial, that a number of commercial ships have been targeted by “sabotage” attack near its territorial waters.

The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates issued a statement, saying that four commercial vessels have been targeted by “sabotage operations” near its territorial waters.

The statement added that there were no victims, but fell short of giving any details on possible damage to commercial vessels, their nationally and possible casualties.

The ministry statement was tweeted by the official news agency WAM.

According to the statement, the incident occurred near the UAE emirate of Fujairah, one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs that lies just outside the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital oil and natural gas corridor for the global energy market.

“Subjecting commercial vessels to sabotage operations and threatening the lives of their crew is considered a dangerous development,” the statement added.

The statement claimed that despite the attack, routine port operations at Fujairah port were going on without interruption.

Earlier in the day, the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen television channel reported that as many as seven tankers had been hit by a massive fire at the al-Fujairah oil tanker terminal.

The report stated that several powerful explosions were also heard at the port.

Later, the media office of the government of Fujairah denied the report of the explosions altogether, saying that transit and other activities at the port were underway as usual. Additionally, Brigadier Ali Obaid al-Taniji, the director of the department of civil defense in Fujairah, told the Emarat al-Youm daily that there had been no fire or explosion at the port.

Despite the UAE government’s denial, witnesses have emphasized that the blasts have taken place and some media sources have even went further, identifying a number of oil tankers hit by the explosions by their hull numbers as follows:
