And about Iron Dome’s usefulness:
The rocket is named J-80 after the head of the military wing of Hamas, Ahmed Jabri, and according to Hamas – since it travels on a nonlinear path – it can not be intercepted by Iron Dome.
It was always a questionable strategy anyway. Retaliation and deference works better in general.

The problem with retaliation and deterrence is that the current state of international political relations prevents Israel from retaliating in overwhelming force. The proper retaliation would be for Israel to flatten the town that the missile was fired from. This would give the locals a vested interest in stopping the missile attacks.

I always thought the best Israeli defense against Gaza rockets would be to fire one rocket in for each rocket fired at Israel in a one-to-one response. They could use Katusha rockets and simply sight them manually and let fortune dictate exactly where they come down. They could even televise the launchings and let the Palestinians know approximately where they are aiming. And if a Katusha comes down in rush-hour traffic and kills fifty people – too effing bad. How can the media call it “genocide” when they are always reacting one-on-one to the Muslim attacks? That’s what I would do. Let the Muslims find out what it’s like to hear the sirens and then just stand there hoping it doesn’t land on you…
Because the media doesn’t rely on facts, evidence, truth or what is best for everyone. How can they call it “Genocide” now when Israel texts everyone in a target zone and warns them of an incoming? When Israel calls off an attack on a weapons depot because Hamas has covered the roof in civilians?
