USA: Rape victims protest Kavanaugh’s swearing-in
Sexual assault survivors protested against the swearing-in of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, outside the US Supreme Court in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

Justice Kavanaugh was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday, in a 50-48 vote which largely followed partisan lines. Allegations of sexual misconduct had delayed Kavanaugh’s confirmation process for weeks.

Teachers who already wear religious garb could sidestep ban, CAQ suggests
That would mean the strict new rules would only apply to new hires, suggested the incoming government spokesperson.
QUEBEC — The Coalition Avenir Québec appeared to soften its position Tuesday on plans to bar teachers from wearing religious clothing, saying it may grandfather the right so they can keep their existing jobs.
And it has recognized that Quebec’s magistrate’s council will have to be responsible for applying the ban to judges on the bench because the judiciary is independent.
As for the crucifix hanging over the speaker’s chair in the National Assembly, it stays because it is a “heritage object” and an accessory to the debate about religious symbols, the CAQ says.
In what appears to be a step back from its hard line and an olive branch to obtain the support of the opposition parties, the incoming CAQ government spokesperson, Simon Jolin-Barrette, said he now wants to talk and cooperate with them about how they can all put this issue behind them as soon as possible.
Grandfathering the rights of teachers to wear symbols can be discussed, he said.
“We are in a period of transition. Our position has always been that persons in authority including teachers not wear religious symbols, but yes, we want to cooperate with the opposition parties and we want to ensure we move on to other things.
“Our position has always been to say there is no acquired rights clause, but this said, we are ready to discuss with the different opposition parties. One thing for sure, the consensus of the Bouchard-Taylor report exists and Quebecers expect persons in positions of authority not wear symbols.”
Bouchard-Taylor in fact makes no references to barring elementary and high school teachers from wearing symbols such as the Muslim hijab or Jewish kippah. That report has been sitting on a shelf since 2008 with no government acting on its recommendations.
Bouchard-Taylor wanted authority figures such as judges, police officers, prison guards and crown prosecutors to be told they should refrain from wearing them.
If applied, Jolin-Barrette’s line is the opposite of what the CAQ was saying only a week ago when it decided to re-ignite the debate at a meeting in Boucherville. His fellow party spokesperson Geneviève Guilbault specifically ruled out the idea of a grandfather clause.
At the time, she said an employee who refused to refrain from wearing symbols would either have to transfer to other jobs or leave the civil service.
“They will be free to move to another job that is not in an authority position,” she said. “It will be up to them at that moment to make their choice.”
The CAQ has been roundly criticized in some circles for raising the issue again and for going even further than the original Bouchard-Taylor report. The CAQ says the issue has dragged on long enough and would like the question settled in their first year in office.
If the CAQ did soften its line, it might get the support of at least one other party in the house. The Parti Québécois is on the record as saying it would grandfather existing rights.
On Tuesday, PQ interim leader Pascal Bérubé said the PQ opposes the firing of anybody over the issue of religious symbols. As for the CAQ’s future plans, the party will pronounce itself after it sees the CAQ’s proposed legislation, he said.
But the other opposition party, Québec solidaire, which only supports the original Bouchard-Taylor formula, fired back at the CAQ.
“There is no problem with Quebec teachers who wear a kippa or a hijab,” QS said in a statement. “Where is there is a problem is over perceptions. A government cannot legislate based on perceptions.
“(Premier-designate François) Legault should make other issues his priorities,” QS said.
Jolin-Barrette made the comments under questioning at a news conference where he announced the CAQ government plans to table a bill before Christmas creating a new framework for the hiring new state employees. The CAQ wants to cut political allegiances out of the equation.
But he was called upon to comment on a weekend downtown anti-racism demonstration that drew about 3,000 people. Many of the protesters decried the CAQ’s policy on religious symbols and the fact the party, whose cabinet will be sworn into office Oct. 18, wants to reduce immigration.
The demonstration had been planned before the election of the CAQ, but the speakers nevertheless used the event to step up their protests against the party’s vision.
“People have the right to demonstrate,” Jolin-Barrette said. “People can express their opinions. The CAQ got a strong, majority mandate to settle this issue of religious symbols.
“It reflects the Quebec consensus so we will go ahead with the secularization of the state to ensure that persons in positions of authority do not wear religious symbols.”
On the weekend, former prime minister Jean Chrétien also waded into the feud, telling the Canadian Press that Quebec’s political class is “trapped” in a pointless debate over a non-existent problem: how to accommodate religious minorities.
He said the furor over whether public servants can wear religious symbols will die down.
“We respect Mr. Chrétien’s opinion,” Jolin-Barrette said. “This said, we obtained a majority mandate, backed strongly by the population, to settle this issue.”
Jolin-Barrette was also asked about the CAQ’s attitude toward the crucifix that hangs over the speaker’s chair in the legislature. His response was the in the CAQ’s view, the crucifix is a heritage item and “an accessory” to the issue at hand.
It will stay.
He was also asked about comments made by Université Laval law professor Patrick Taillon, who told the Journal de Montréal that the CAQ is headed for a brick wall if it believes it can impose its religious symbol rule on judges.
Taillon said judges are independent of the political machine and cannot be told what to do.
Jolin-Barrette responded saying the CAQ will respect the independence of judges, adding it will be up the magistrate’s council that oversees the work of Quebec judges to apply the new rules.
But he said in the final analysis it will be up to whichever person Legault chooses to manage the issue in cabinet to decide the “modalities on how to apply the law.”

An internal company briefing produced by Google and leaked exclusively to Breitbart News argues that due to a variety of factors, including the election of President Trump, the “American tradition” of free speech on the internet is no longer viable.
Despite leaked video footage showing top executives declaring their intention to ensure that the rise of Trump and the populist movement is just a “blip” in history, Google has repeatedly denied that the political bias of its employees filter into its products.
But the 85-page briefing, titled “The Good Censor,” admits that Google and other tech platforms now “control the majority of online conversations” and have undertaken a “shift towards censorship” in response to unwelcome political events around the world.
Examples cited in the document include the 2016 election and the rise of Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) in Germany.
Responding to the leak, an official Google source said the document should be considered internal research, and not an official company position.
The briefing labels the ideal of unfettered free speech on the internet a “utopian narrative” that has been “undermined” by recent global events as well as “bad behavior” on the part of users. It can be read in full below.

Consider that for years, San Jose was home to “The Jungle“. This homeless encampment, in the heart of Silicon Valley only was shut down after federal EPA officials threatened to sue the municipality for damage to Coyote Creek’s sensitive riparian environment that bordered one edge of this sprawling pigsty. The Kavanaugh Effect: Male teen falsely accused of sexual assault by five ‘mean girls’

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), a rape victims advocacy group, reports that out of 2,059 cases of alleged sexual assault reported in a recent year, 7.1% of the reports turned out to be false. That statistic seems to reinforce the claim made in recent weeks by supporters of Christine Blasey Armstrong that the majority of women who come forward with assault allegations are truthful.
But there’s another side to that statistic: 146 of the allegations were falsely made. That number may seem insignificant next to the 1,913 cases of assault that really happened, but it’s hardly insignificant for the males whose lives were turned upside down by falsified charges.
One of those males is a teen from the town of Zelienople, Pa., outside of Pittsburgh, who was accused by five “mean girls” who falsely accused him of raping them. (The term mean girls, popularized by a movie starring Lindsay Lohan, is a “tween” expression used to describe girls who exhibit anti-social behavior.)
According to station WPXI, the boy, identified only as T.F., was accused of attacking one of the girls at a swimming pool where he worked, while another claims he assaulted her at her home. As a result of the accusations, T.F. was fired from his job at the pool and — according to a 27-page criminal complaint filed against his accusers — “forced to endure multiple court appearances, detention in a juvenile facility, detention at home, loss of his liberty, and other damages until several of the girls reluctantly admitted that their accusations were false.”

“According to Belgium’s federal prosecutor, the European nation has seen well over 300 convictions relating to terrorism offences, many with a radical Islamic background.
Federal prosecutor Frédéric van Leeuw said the country, which boasts a population of just over 11 million, has seen over 360 convictions as of September for terrorism from neo-Nazis to radical Islamists, Sveriges Radio reports.
“In September this year, more than 360 people convicted in Belgium in recent years have been convicted of having participated in a terrorist group’s activities,” Mr van Leeuw said.
Looking at the number of convictions in the UK since 2001, there were 716 terror convictions in the UK out of a total of 1,043 individuals brought up on terrorism charges, according to a report released in June. Britain’s population is almost six times that of Belgium.
The UK report also noted there are 183 prisoners currently serving sentences for terror offences, 88 percent of them being Muslims. France, meanwhile, houses around 500 prisoners found guilty of terror charges, with hundreds of them set for release by the end of 2019.
In Sweden, the number of convictions for terrorism has been considerably lower than both the UK and Belgium with only six people being convicted of terrorism offences.
Part of the reason is due to Swedish law does not criminalise being a member of a terrorist group or even fighting on behalf of one but only looks at those planning or having committed a terror attack.
The number of convictions is also low considering reports from international investigators who say they see more and more links to terror cases in the country and experts like researcher Peder Hyllengren of the Swedish Defence College have labelled the country a base for international jihadism.
Prosecutor Van Leeuw spoke highly of Belgian terror laws saying, “There may be statements from the person in social media, that can be pictures, evidence from the battlefield, statements from relatives, so we have great opportunities to gather evidence,” but noted the difficulty in acquiring evidence regarding returning radicals from the Middle East.”

Judge Shahed Nuruddin delivered the verdicts — interrupted twice by power cuts — at the court in Dhaka for 49 defendants facing multiple charges stemming from the attack.
Nuruddin said the attack was intended to eliminate the Awami League’s leadership, including Hasina.
Lutfuzzaman Babar, one of two former Cabinet ministers among the 19 condemned to death, told reporters after the verdict that he was innocent. “God knows everything. I was not behind it,” he said.
Tarique Rahman, the oldest son of opposition leader Khaleda Zia, received a life sentence for each of two conspiracy charges stemming from the attack. He lives in London and was tried in absentia. Eighteen others were also sentenced to life imprisonment, and 11 received six months to two years in prison.
Rahman’s conviction could help Hasina retain power in elections due in December. Zia, 73, a former prime minister, has been serving a prison sentence on a corruption conviction since February but was transferred to a state-run hospital on Saturday for what her party says are multiple medical problems.

“A boat carrying migrants has capsized off Turkey’s Aegean coast, killing at least nine people, the coast guard said Wednesday. A search and rescue mission was underway for some 25 migrants who are believed to be missing.
The boat with up to 35 migrants on board capsized Monday evening off the Turkish coast, according to a statement by an Iraqi woman who swam back to shore and sought help from Turkish authorities. Her statement to police was obtained by the state-run Anadolu Agency.
The 30-year-old woman boarded the boat at the resort town of Foca, in Izmir province on Monday, together with her husband and their five children, Anadolu reported. There were a total of between 30 and 35 migrants on the boat, she was quoted as telling police.
Her children, who had life vests, went missing when the boat capsized. The woman and her husband started to swim toward the coast, she said, but by Tuesday afternoon her husband could no longer “resist” the waves and died. She was quoted as saying that she was in the water for about 28 hours.
The coast guard said it had dispatched vessels, a plane and a helicopter to search for the missing. The bodies of nine migrants have been recovered so far, it said.
Although their numbers have decreased in recent years, migrants still try to cross into Greece from neighboring Turkey in the hopes of making their way to other European countries.”

A Chadian soldier was killed earlier this month after Boko Haram launched a mortar attack on a military camp in Litri, close to the Nigeria border.
On September 29, Chadian troops killed 17 Boko Haram militants in a counter-offensive after six people were killed in overnight attacks on Moussarom and Ngueleya in the Lake Chad region.
The previous Boko Haram attack on the Chadian side of the lake happened on July 22 in which 18 people were killed in a village south of Daboua near the border with Niger.
The insurgency and military operations around Lake Chad have displaced 2.4 million people and about 11 million people in Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon rely on humanitarian assistance to survive, a group of NGOs said in August.
Boko Haram is divided into two factions that have competing goals and operational methods. One, led by Abubakar Shekau, is notorious for suicide bombings and indiscriminate killings of civilians. The other, known as Islamic State West Africa Province and led by Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi, largely focuses on attacking military and government targets.
ISWAP is dominant around the shores of Lake Chad in Nigeria’s Borno state, while the Shekau-led faction is concentrated in rural areas of the state.
More radical elements are said to have taken over the ISWAP leadership, prompting fears of an upsurge in violence against the local population. ISWAP has previously vowed to hit only military and government “hard” targets.
G5 Sahel joint force operations
Wednesday’s attack comes after France’s Minister for the Armed Forces Florence Parly visited Chad during two days of meetings with regional officials.
Parly said on Monday that the G5 Sahel Joint Force has scheduled three operations for the coming weeks.
The operations are planned in each of the joint force’s three zones of operation: the Mali-Mauritania border; the border region between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger; and the Niger-Chad border.
The G5 Sahel joint counter-terrorism force, spearheaded by France, was launched in July 2017 with a mandate to combat terrorism, transnational organized crime and human trafficking in the Sahel area.
It is set to expand to 5,000 troops, but the force is ill-equipped, and more than €400 million pledged at an international donor conference in Brussels on February 23 has been slow to materialize.
The joint force will work alongside 4,500 French personnel deployed to Operation Barkhane, as well as peacekeepers deployed to the U.N. Minusma stabilization mission in Mali.”

The answer is simplicity itself and should have been the response to Somali piracy.
These monumental al-Shabab and Boko Haram turds have to have come from somewhere. Identify their villages of origin and obliterate those breeding grounds. Then return and bounce the rubble a few times for good measure.
When either of these groups return home to piss and moan over their own brand of violence being used against them, wait until they cluster up at whatever funerals and then come back to perform further “landscaping” of their turf.
Once a sufficient number of these terrorist “farms” are subjected to “scorched earth” tactics and have had their fields thoroughly salted, mayhaps then these Muslim sows will begin to hesitate whenever the recruiters come to town.
Should their young sons be kidnapped, the fear of being identified as a source of such jihadis yust might impel villagers to report such abductions to the authorities. If not, say hello to a round of carpet bombing. Eventually, they will learn to fear one more than the other. If not, they will assume room temperature.
At the very least, there will be a sharp reduction in recidivism.

A crucifix standing on the top of the rocky shores of Appeli on Greece’s island of Lesbos, was destroyed by unknown vandals on Sunday night. The cross was reportedly built in honour of the refugees who died at sea, footage from Wednesday shows the reaction of locals to the vandalism.
The cross that was built back in September had caused a reaction from a local association claiming that it disrupts the balance of cohabitation between locals and refugees of other religions that live on the island.
Despite the outrage of several groups, some locals feel outraged with the vandalism.
“Who does the cross bothers, the cross which is the symbol of orthodoxy?” stated local resident Panagiotis Axarlis, adding that “I feel sorry as a Greek.”
For Stelios Agas, another local resident, this is an action of hatred since “in order for it to get broken, it had to be with hatred,” because “this cross has iron inside, it is cement and somebody went with a sledge hammer or something like that and broke it.”
Local residents used rocks from the area to get the cross standing again. They say that it is a temporary measure and that a large cross should be put up in its place.

Authorities in Xinjiang have launched a campaign against the “spread of halal”, claiming the growing number of halal products is encouraging religious extremism in the heavily monitored Chinese region.
Party officials in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, which is home to about 12 million people from Muslim minorities, on Monday called on government officers to strengthen the “ideological struggle” and fight “halalification” or the “pan-halal tendency,” a post on the Urumqi People’s Procuratorate Wechat account said.
The term refers to extending halal labelling – food that adheres to Islamic law – to non-food items to appeal to Muslim consumers. Officials and state media say the growing number of products labelled halal allows Islamic rituals to penetrate secular life in China.
“The pan-halal tendency blurs the boundary between religion and secular life. So it is easy to fall into the mire of religious extremism,” the state-owned Global Times said in an article about the new campaign in Urumqi.
The campaign comes as protest over China’s counter-terrorism policies in Xinjiang mounts. Rights advocates, researchers and media have documented the use of mass surveillance and internment, as well as the curtailing of religious freedoms of Muslims minorities such as Uighurs, Kazakhs, and Hui in the north-western territory.
Critics say China is trying to assimilate minorities into the dominant Han Chinese by stamping out Muslim traditions. Local authorities have put restrictions on long beards, head coverings, or other Islamic clothing – that can “whip up religious fanaticism”. All Hajj pilgrimages must be taken through state-organised tours. Uighur activists say mosques are being torn down.
The initiative against halal labelling, confined in Xinjiang to meat, dairy and oil products, has gained momentum recently. Officials in Gansu province, home to a large population of Hui Muslims, shut down more than 700 shops selling “pan-halal products” in March. Services like “halal haircuts” and “halal baths” were also been banned.
Under the hashtag “halalification” or qingzhen fanhua, internet users critical of the trend post photos of items labeled halal, like napkins or milk. One user wrote, “Is there pig blood in ordinary milk? What we should be worried about is national unity, not the unity of religious groups.”
The meeting of party officials on Monday called on all government officers and party members in Urumqi to speak Mandarin Chinese at work and in public, and to reaffirm their commitment to the ideology of the Chinese Communist party.
Liu Ming, secretary of a party member group, led the attendees in an oath, according to the Wechat statement. A photo shows Liu speaking into a microphone, his fist clenched in the air, pledging: “My belief is Marxism-Leninism. I don’t believe in any religious belief. I must decisively fight against halalification to the end”.
The meeting also called on government officers to publish their own essays expressing “their stand against the pan-halal tendency.” One article was titled, “A movement to liberate thought across Xinjiang is underway.”
One Uighur cadre wrote an article headlined: “Friend, you don’t have to find a halal restaurant for me.” He wrote, “We ethnic minorities have taken this respect for our eating habits for granted. We have not thought about respecting their eating habits.”
He encouraged Uighurs who are also party members to eat with their Han Chinese colleagues rather than solely at halal restaurants. He said: “Changing eating habits has a significant and far-reaching impact for countering extremism!”

Salvini orders radical imam’s expulsion from Italy
A radical Egyptian imam and terrorism supporter will be deported from Italy, hardline interior minister Matteo Salvini wrote Wednesday in a tweet.

The suspect is Ahmed Elbadry Elbasiouny Aboualy, who in September 2009 attacked conservative politician Daniela Santanche during a protest in the northern city of Milan against the Islamic veil, according to interior ministry sources.
According to investigators, eletronic files found on devices belonging to Aboualy showed his extremism, which had also been observed in mosques where he preached.
Aboualy also had alleged links to Libyan Mohammed Game who in October 2009 bombed an army barracks in Milan, maiming and blinding himself in the attack, the sources said.

The Christian owners of a Northern Ireland bakery have won their appeal in the so-called “gay cake” discrimination case.
The UK’s highest court ruled that Ashers bakery’s refusal to make a cake with a slogan supporting same-sex marriage was not discriminatory.
The five justices on the Supreme Court were unanimous in their judgement.
The high-profile dispute began in 2014 when the bakery refused to make a cake with the slogan “Support Gay Marriage”.

On Sunday night, Gottsundaskolan – a secondary school with around 450 students, was burned down in the troubled and migrant-dominated “vulnerable area”, Gottsunda in Uppsala. Two of the school’s three buildings were completely destroyed, and the third building was severely damaged.

Self-made billionaire and Minecraft creator Markus Persson says that the political left has “literally been taken over by evil.”
Persson, who is an award-winning video game programmer and designer, made the comments on Twitter during a discussion about how the left deploys ad hominem slurs and insults against its political adversaries.
Tweeting from his verified ‘@Notch’ account to 3.7 million followers, the 39-year-old Swede wrote, “I know people don’t like it when I point this out, but the left has been taken over by evil,” adding, “And I mean that literally.”

Hysteria was the first mental health illness attributed to women. For centuries it was considered both a common and chronic medical disorder. Female Hysteria was intrinsically intertwined with women’s sexuality and reproductive organs. The origin of the term hysteria stems from the Greek equivalent for uterus ‘hystera’. Symptoms included everything from nervousness, sexual desire, insomnia, irritability, loss of appetite, and a “tendency to cause trouble”. Hysteria was the diagnosis for everything that men found mysterious or unmanageable in women and was used as evidence of the instability of the female mind. Many women who were diagnosed with hysteria were forced into insane asylums or to undergo surgical hysterectomies. One of the major triumphs of the feminist movement was to eradicate the diagnosis and stigma of female hysteria.
After centuries of fighting against stereotypes of women as irrational emotional hysterics, Christine Blasey Ford and her cult of feminist victims reestablished the worst stereotypes of women as fragile, defenseless, erratic and unstable. When women were marching for equal rights, equal pay and equal position in society, they did not envision being represented by a woman who is the very personification of female hysteria. Christine Blasey Ford’s fragmented recovered memory of a sexual assault, her 36-year-old ongoing trauma, uncorroborated allegations, childlike affectation, feigned helplessness and alleged irrational fears are a profile in female hysteria.

When I was in graduate school, I learned a lot about the left. One lesson was that while most liberals and conservatives abide by society’s rules of order and decency, most leftists do not feel bound to live by these same rules.
I watched the way leftist Vietnam War protesters treated fellow students and professors. I watched left-wing students make “nonnegotiable demands” of college administrations. I saw the Black Panthers engage in violence — including torture and murder — and be financially rewarded by leftists.
Today, we watch leftist mobs scream profanities at professors and deans, and shut down conservative and pro-Israel speakers at colleges. We routinely witness left-wing protesters block highways and bridges; scream in front of the homes of conservative business and political leaders; and surround conservatives’ tables at restaurants while shouting and chanting at them.
Conservatives don’t do these things. They don’t close highways, yell obscenities at left-wing politicians, work to ban left-wing speakers at colleges, smash the windows of businesses, etc.
