  1. Video of a visually impaired man and his dog being ejected from a supermarket have caused a social media stir in France.

Arthur Aumoite posted video online of his shopping trip to a Monoprix outlet in Marseille with his guide dog, Loya.

The footage shows a staff member telling him that he and his dog must leave for “hygiene reasons”.

An altercation follows in which another staff member is seen taking away Mr Aumoite’s guide dog, Loya.

The incident was filmed by a third person who was accompanying Mr Aumoite.

When confronted, Mr Aumoite appears to try to explain that French accessibility laws permit guide dogs in any public place.

Mr Aumoite also told FranceTvinfo that the paper which can be seen in the video is a flyer with the relevant information.

He says this was ignored, with the manager repeating that no animals of any kind are permitted for hygiene reasons.

  4. The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to crack down on people who repeatedly disrupt their meetings at City Hall, defying attorneys and activists who charge that the new rules trample on free speech rights.

Beginning in January, people who are repeatedly ejected from City Council or committee meetings for shouting from the audience or other “disruptive acts” can be banned from attending other meetings that day and for up to six additional meeting days at a time.

Activists from the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, the Los Angeles Community Action Network and other groups vigorously opposed the plan at City Hall, calling it a tool to squelch dissent.

“You’re actually limiting our ability to protest, to say no, to use our bodies to say we are standing up for our communities,” said Jamie Garcia, a member of the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition.

  6. Report: Heidi Heitkamp Ignored Sexual Abuse Allegations Made by Native American Schoolchildren

A damning Tuesday report from Fox News claims that Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) refused to pursue charges against physical and sexual abusers of children during her tenure as State Attorney General in North Dakota.

“North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp did not push to prosecute individuals responsible for physical and sexual abuse of students when she was the state’s Attorney General, with one accused school employee subsequently sexually assaulting a child,” according to the report.

The alleged abuse took place at a boarding school for troubled Native American children.

“The allegations of physical and sexual abuse at the Native American school were largely confirmed by four state and federal investigations conducted by the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office, the North Dakota Department of Human Services, the FBI, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs,” the report said.

  7. North Dakota voters could determine control of the U.S. Senate on November 6 if other states break a particular way. And the already uphill fight for reelection by Democrat Heidi Heitkamp just got more difficult thanks to a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, acting without newly sworn in Justice Kavanaugh, as Amy Howe of SCOTUSblog explains:

The Supreme Court today declined to intervene in a challenge to a North Dakota law that requires voters to present identification that includes a current residential street address. Lawyers say that the ruling will prevent thousands of Native American voters (and tens of thousands of North Dakota residents who are not Native Americans) from casting a ballot in the upcoming 2018 election in a state that could play a key role in Democrats’ efforts to retake the U.S. Senate.

  8. Chyane Stephenson-Dielhenn, 18, and a 16-year-old girl, held the victim, also 16, hostage in a care home in Dagenham, Essex, for more than eight hours between 4 March and 5 March.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how they made her snort a mixture of salt and tea and eat noodles soaked in urine.

The pair also physically attacked the victim; pouring sugar in her ears, burning her with cigarettes after punching her and tying her up.

The pair posted videos of the ordeal online – but instead of raising the alarm, followers just sent suggestions about what they could do to their victim next.

  9. China Uighurs: Xinjiang legalises ‘reeducation’ camps (BBC, Oct 10, 2018)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-45812419

“China’s western Xinjiang region has written “vocational training centres” for Muslim Uighurs into law amid growing international concern over large-scale disappearances there.

Xinjiang says the centres will tackle extremism through “thought transformation”.

Rights groups say detainees are made to swear loyalty to President Xi Jinping and criticise or renounce their faith.

In August, China denied allegations that it had locked up a million people.

But officials attending a UN human rights meeting admitted that Uighurs “deceived by religious extremism” were undergoing re-education and resettlement.

Xinjiang has seen cycles of violence and crackdowns for years. China accuses Islamist militants and separatists of orchestrating the trouble.

What does the Chinese legislation say?
Xinjiang’s new legislation is the first detailed indication of what China is doing in the region.

It says examples of behaviour that could lead to detention include expanding the concept of halal – which means permissible in Islam – to areas of life outside diet, refusing to watch state TV and listen to state radio and preventing children from receiving state education.

China says its network of detention centres will also teach Mandarin Chinese, legal concepts and provide vocational training.

Rights groups have criticised the move. Sophie Richardson from Human Rights Watch said the “words on paper outlining grotesque, vast human rights abuses don’t deserve the term ‘law'”.

New law bans promoting of religion
    Michael Bristow, BBC News

By giving these camps a legal footing, China appears to have confirmed what many have been saying for months: that it is running a string of re-education camps for Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang in the name of combating extremism.

In newly published regulations detailing the camps, China has given them a vague-sounding name. It calls them “vocational skills and educational training centres”.

But it is clear their purpose is not just about giving people the ability to get a better job.

The regulations say they are for people “influenced by extremism”. The point is to correct bad behaviour, and ensure those inside them undergo psychological counselling and ideological education.

The camps are part of a broader attack on Islamic extremism in Xinjiang.

The new rules mean it’s illegal to spread religious fanaticism by, for example, having “abnormal beards or unusual names”.

And extremism is defined so broadly that it even seems to be applicable to parents who complain if their children want to marry someone of a different faith or ethnic group.

Is China cracking down on Islam?
China is also launching a wider campaign against Islamic practices across Xinjiang. It wants to stop the use of halal products that are not food.

One newspaper said the use of the term halal to describe items such as toothpaste blurred the line between religious and secular life and made people prey to religious extremism.

On Monday Communist Party leaders in the regional capital Urumqi led cadres in swearing an oath to fight the “pan-halal trend”, AFP reported.

New regulations also make it clear that Muslim women are banned from wearing veils.

Communist party members and bureaucrats have been told to speak Mandarin Chinese in public and not local languages.

    What are the camps like?
Former prisoners of the camps have told the BBC of physical as well as psychological torture there. Entire families had disappeared, they said.

In July, a former teacher at one of the camps who fled to Kazakhstan told a court there that “in China they call it a political camp but really it was a prison in the mountains”.

The New York Times quoted former detainees as saying that they were forced to sing songs such as “Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China” and those who could not remember the words were not given breakfast.

“In the end, all the officials had one key point. The greatness of the Chinese Communist Party, the backwardness of Uighur culture and the advanced nature of Chinese culture,” former detainee Abdusalam Muhemet told the newspaper.

The World Uyghur Congress said in a report that detainees were held indefinitely without charge, and forced to shout Communist Party slogans.

It said they were poorly fed, and reports of torture were widespread.

Most inmates have never been charged with a crime, it is claimed, and do not receive legal representation.

However China’s state-run English-language Global Times newspaper maintains the tough security measures in the region have prevented it from turning into “China’s Syria” or “China’s Libya”.

    Who are the Uighurs?
The Uighurs are ethnically Turkic Muslims mostly based in Xinjiang. They make up about 45% of the population there.

They see themselves as culturally and ethnically close to Central Asian nations, and their language is similar to Turkish.

In recent decades, large numbers of Han Chinese (China’s ethnic majority) have migrated to Xinjiang, and the Uighurs feel their culture and livelihoods are under threat.

Xinjiang is officially designated as an autonomous region within China, like Tibet to its south.”

    • China’s western Xinjiang region has written “vocational training centres” for Muslim Uighurs into law amid growing international concern over large-scale disappearances there.

I continue to maintain that Communist China’s treatment of its Muslim population will be instructive for other world powers. Something tells me that Beijing’s “vocational training” program includes aversion therapy for bending at the knees, banging one’s head on the floor, and being rectal cavities in general.

  10. UH-OH FOR ENVIRONMENTALISTS: U.N. Climate Change Group Implicitly Admits Extreme Weather Events Not Increasing, Not Caused By Greenhouse Gases

In a stunning implicit admission, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a scientific and intergovernmental body under the auspices of the United Nations that revels in trumpeting the dangers of climate change, revealed in a new report that not only is there little evidence that the incidence of extreme events such as drought, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes has increased globally, but the extreme events are little affected by greenhouse gases.

Despite the horrified proclamations from environmentalists that “Unprecedented action is needed,” and the IPCC’s own hysterical warning that government should implement “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society,” there were some clear-headed people who saw through the puffery, looked at the data, and reached some starkly different conclusions.

  12. The Muslim Brotherhood’s Reach into Michigan

The North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) is a Muslim Brotherhood entity with extensive reach into Michigan (as well as throughout Islamic communities in America). NAIT was founded in Indiana by the Muslim Students Association. Today, it is a “constituent organization” of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

Declassified FBI memos show that agency investigators identified NAIT as a foreign-financed Muslim Brotherhood front in the late 1980’s. One memo states:

  13. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an does not understand that his biggest divergence with Russia is over the future of all of Syria, not just a Syrian province. In theory, it is understandable that he wants to protect the “moderate fighters” because he feels indebted to them for their help to the Turkish army in two cross-border operations. But more than that, he wants to protect them in order to maintain a force that can eventually fight either or both of his two nemeses in Syria: President Assad and the Syrian Kurds.

At first glance, the plan looked viable: using the “Arab Spring” as a legitimate pretext, Turkey would convince Syrian President Bashar Assad to resign; the Syrian ballot box would establish a Sunni-majority regime loyal to Turkey; and the regime would cooperate with Ankara to eliminate the emerging security threat to Turkey embodied by Syria’s Kurds. When Assad refused to quit, Ankara brought together various factions of (Sunni) armed opposition to oust him from power in what would later become Syria’s sectarian civil war.

  14. Turkey’s Revolution Looks like Iran’s – but in Slow Motion

    by A.J. Caschetta
    October 10, 2018 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13107/turkey-iran-revolution

Watching Turkey’s transformation into an authoritarian Islamist nation over the last 16 years has been eerily like watching Iran’s rapid fall in 1979 — but in slow motion. Whereas Iran went from a secularist American ally to an implacable Islamist foe in a matter of months, Turkey has been on a similar path but led by a more cautious Islamist, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has moved at a much slower rate.
    Rise to Power

The Pahlavi Shah of Iran exiled Ruhollah Khomeini (to Turkey, coincidentally) in 1964. When he returned to Iran on February 1, 1979, Khomeini seized absolute power almost immediately. With the Shah out of the country seeking treatment for his cancer, there was little to stop Khomeini and his clerical allies. He quickly created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) which would soon surpass the Shah’s SAVAK secret police in putting down internal enemies. The SAVAK’s infamous Evin prison, which once held as many as 5,000 of the Shah’s political enemies, soon held over 15,000 of Khomeini’s. Within weeks, Khomeini presided over a reign of terror that Robespierre himself might admire.

Turkey’s fall into Islamism, on the other hand, has been much slower, guided deliberately and incrementally by Recep Tayyip Erdogan through a series of elections. Perhaps he learned to go slowly from his misstep in 1998 when, as Mayor of Istanbul, he rallied his supporters by pronouncing, “the mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers.” As a result, Erdogan was convicted of inciting hatred, given a 10-month jail sentence and banned from holding public office.

  15. Religious Hardliners in Pakistan Threaten Judges if Accused Blasphemer Freed (sputniknews, Oct 10, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201810101068771935-Religious-Hardliners-Pakistan-Threaten-Judges/

“A religious political party in Pakistan is threatening judges and mounting protests ahead of the announcement of a Supreme Court ruling on the fate of a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, who is accused of blasphemy.

Bibi was accused of blasphemy in 2009 when, while working outside with Muslim women, she went to fetch water. The other women objected, saying that a non-Muslim should not touch the water bowl and reported her to a local cleric on the grounds that she blasphemed the Prophet Mohammed.

Blasphemy is taken extremely seriously in Pakistan by religious hardliners; anyone accused of it risks ruthless, deadly violence by vigilantes, AFP reports. Those not put to mob justice can face prosecution in the court of law, as Bibi is.

Human rights groups say that Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are frequently employed as a means of enacting retribution over personal disputes.

Bibi was sentenced to death by hanging in 2010 despite her denials that she insulted the prophet. Hanging is the typical sentence for those convicted of blasphemy. The Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) party, a hardline religious organization that skyrocketed to prominence in the country in recent years, has called for stricter enforcement of the blasphemy laws, going as far as blockading the capital of Islamabad with protesters for several weeks in 2017, demanding more prosecutions.

In the July 25 general election, TLP received more than 2.23 million votes.

In a press conference on YouTube, the group threatened a “horrible” end for the Supreme Court judges if Bibi’s death sentence appeal is successful.

In a similar vein, Islamabad’s Red Mosque — one of the oldest and most influential mosques in the capital — is seeking to preempt Bibi’s escape from Pakistan should she get clemency in one form or another, though continuing to reside in Pakistan, even if she is freed, would mean living under the constant threat of vigilante violence. A spokesman for the mosque, Hafiz Ihtesham Ahmed, petitioned the Supreme Court to put her on the country’s no-fly list. “Western forces are trying to get Asia Bibi out of the country, but she should be hanged,” he told AFP.

Pope Benedict XVI called for clemency for Bibi in 2010, and Bibi’s daughter met with Pope Francis in 2015. Francis said he would pray for the Christian woman.

If the Supreme Court denies Bibi’s appeal, her last chance for clemency will be from the president, Arif Alvi of the centrist Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party. The Supreme Court said it had reached a decision on Monday but has yet to announce it “for reasons to be recorded later.””

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The fourth annual meeting of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) occurred in August 2018, in Tokyo, Japan. It continues to fail, haunted by its original foundational lies that place the blame for violence on the tools of violence, but not on poor governance.

  18. An internal company briefing produced by Google and leaked exclusively to Breitbart News argues that due to a variety of factors, including the election of President Trump, the “American tradition” of free speech on the internet is no longer viable.
Despite leaked video footage showing top executives declaring their intention to ensure that the rise of Trump and the populist movement is just a “blip” in history, Google has repeatedly denied that the political bias of its employees filter into its products.

But the 85-page briefing, titled “The Good Censor,” admits that Google and other tech platforms now “control the majority of online conversations” and have undertaken a “shift towards censorship” in response to unwelcome political events around the world.

Examples cited in the document include the 2016 election and the rise of Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) in Germany.

Responding to the leak, an official Google source said the document should be considered internal research, and not an official company position.

The briefing labels the ideal of unfettered free speech on the internet a “utopian narrative” that has been “undermined” by recent global events as well as “bad behavior” on the part of users. It can be read in full below.

It acknowledges that major tech platforms, including Google, Facebook and Twitter initially promised free speech to consumers. “This free speech ideal was instilled in the DNA of the Silicon Valley startups that now control the majority of our online conversations,” says the document.

The daughter of a Markham crossing guard said an off-duty Toronto police officer roughed him up on Tuesday morning — and her father was the one who ended up in custody.

Safra Najeemudeen said her father Muhammad Hameed was helping children cross the street near Mount Joy Public School, close to Bur Oak Avenue and Markham Road, around 8:15 a.m. when a driver failed to stop and proceeded through the intersection.

Hameed, 70, reportedly tapped the car with his stop sign as it passed him.

According to witnesses, the passenger, an off-duty Toronto police officer, got out of the car. They said he flashed his badge, grabbed Hameed by his reflective vest, and pushed him against the car.

The officer reportedly told Hameed he was arresting him for mischief.

“I could see it in my father’s face he was very distraught,” Najeemudeen said, who arrived at the scene at that point.

“I could see he was so stressed.”

The officer allegedly held Hameed against the car, which the officer’s son had been driving, until York Regional Police officers arrived around 8:30 a.m.

“When the police came, instead of the officer who assaulted him getting charged … they immediately come and start handcuffing him,” Najeemudeen said.

“For everyone looking it was very confusing, like why is he getting arrested when he is not the person who did the assault?”

Police removed the handcuffs before putting Hameed in the back of a cruiser. He then passed out and officers took him to a local hospital.

They released him from custody without charges.

  20. WASHINGTON, DC — The United States is facing an “escalating” threat from the use of civilian drones as weapons by the likes of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) and MS-13, the FBI director cautioned on Wednesday.
In written testimony prepared for hearing by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray declared:

The threat from Unmanned Aircraft Systems [UAS] in the U.S. is steadily escalating….While there has been no successful malicious use of UAS by terrorists in the United States to date, terrorist groups could easily export their battlefield experiences to use weaponized UAS outside the conflict zone. We have seen repeated and dedicated efforts to use UAS as weapons, not only by terrorist organizations, such as ISIS and Al Qa’ida, but also by transnational criminal organizations such as MS-13 and Mexican drug cartels, which may encourage [the] use of this technique in the U.S. to conduct attacks.

The FBI assesses that, given their retail availability, lack of verified identification requirement to procure, general ease of use, and prior use overseas, UAS will be used to facilitate an attack in the United States against a vulnerable target, such as a mass gathering.

According to the FBI, the MS-13 gang maintains a presence in at least 42 states in the District of Columbia and counts with the support of “about 6,000-10,000 members nationwide.”

    • Tattoos Are For Stupid People

Throughout the known universe, the human body remains one of the most incredible and compact marvels there is, bar none.

Essentially, tattooing the human body is like scratching your initials into the paint job of your brand new Ferrari.

The prevalence of death symbology in many tattoos is indicative of totemic fear and, all too often, an attempt to ward off the deep-seated dread that such individuals typically are otherwise incapable of coping with.

Using tattoos to deal with unspoken anxieties—and eff knows that today’s youth don’t have enough of those, mostly self-induced—is like using dynamite to remove a hangnail. Hilariously, most of these inked up freaks couldn’t invent their way out of a wet paper bag. Yet, they end up relying upon the invention of lasers to remove these vivid hallmarks of their piss poor decision-making processes.

  25. IMF cautions Pakistan against increasing Chinese involvement in economy (tribune, Oct 10, 2018)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/1822558/1-imf-cautions-pakistan-increasing-chinese-involvement-economy/

“The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) chief economist Maurice Obstfeld cautioned Pakistan against increased Chinese involvement in the economy.

Addressing a news conference at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bali, Obstfeld warned that the increasing role could bring both benefits and risks.

He stressed that Pakistan was facing financing gaps as it has been hit by a large fiscal and current account deficit, a low level of reserves and a currency he described as “too rigid” and over-valued.

Finance Minister Asad Umar said on Monday the government would seek to open talks with the IMF in Bali this week for emergency financial assistance. Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier sought alternatives to a second bailout programme in five years from the IMF as it imposes austerity and limits his vision of an Islamic welfare state.

Obstfeld said that if the IMF does enter into talks with Pakistan this week on a possible new financing programme, the goal would be reforms that would help Pakistan reach its “immense potential” without providing specific details.

“The government has expressed its desires to enact deep structural reforms that might break the cycle of Pakistan needing financial support from the Fund,” he said.

Pakistan needs more infrastructure development, Obstfeld added, and the country could benefit from China’s role in supporting its project financing.

But China’s involvement could also bring potential risks, he said. “It is important that the design of the projects… be solid and excessive debts which cannot be repaid are avoided,” the IMF chief economist said.

Islamabad has cut the size of the biggest Chinese “Silk Road” project in Pakistan, a reconstruction of the main rail line between the port city of Karachi and Peshawar in the northwest by $2 billion, citing government concerns about the country’s debt levels.

The changes are part of Islamabad’s efforts to rethink key Belt and Road Initiative projects in Pakistan, to which China has pledged about $60 billion in financing.

The Trump administration has been critical of China’s Belt and Road initiative, saying that it has saddled some developing countries with debts they cannot afford to repay. In July, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said there was “no rationale” for an IMF bailout of Pakistan that pays off Chinese loans to Pakistan.

Chinese officials have rejected criticism that the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects have burdened Pakistan with unsustainable debts. Instead, the Chinese maintain, they have boosted the country’s economic growth and provided 70,000 jobs.”

  26. VICE NEWS – Steve Bannon’s Plot To Disrupt Europe Sounds Pretty Thin

When a photograph of Steve Bannon and the Italian strongman Matteo Salvini appeared on Twitter last month with the caption “He is in!,” it marked the official arrival of the American political operative’s next big project: uniting Europe’s populists in a right-wing insurgency.

Bannon announced his ambitious plan in July to fuel a populist revolt in Europe through Brussels-based nonprofit foundation The Movement — with the goal of aligning national right-wing movements on a European level, by providing polling, research, data analytics, and messaging. And with Salvini, the anti-immigration Italian deputy prime minister, in the fold, the project gained a co-sign from one of the most powerful voices on the European right.

But Salvini’s endorsement of The Movement looks pretty flimsy. The Italian populist is signing up on the basis of just a verbal agreement, according to Bannon’s key partner in Europe, Mischaël Modrikamen.

What’s more, Modrikamen told VICE News, the agreement asks nothing of Salvini other than an endorsement of a handful of conservative principles, and to attend The Movement’s inaugural convention — if he can make it. (Bannon declined to speak about The Movement to VICE News. His spokesman said he preferred to let Modrikamen’s comments ”stand on their own merit,” as the Belgian was “the lead on the ground.”)

“He said to me, ‘yes, provided I’m available’,” said Modrikamen, The Movement’s executive director, who is also the leader of Belgium’s right-wing populist People’s Party. The third proviso for membership, Modrikamen said, was that Salvini permitted The Movement to go public with their political marriage — although it seems the group doesn’t have yet a functioning website to advertise the association.

Despite plenty of big promises, the rest of Bannon’s political project in Europe doesn’t appear to be much better organized than their web presence, according to Modrikamen’s account. He describes the organization as simply an informal “club of parties,” but one that he hopes will upend the liberal political establishment in Europe.

That echoes Bannon’s description of The Movement as a “loose association” acting as the “connective tissue” linking national right-wing movements. The group’s immediate focus appears to be providing the “fundamental building blocks for winning” to populist parties contesting the next European Parliament elections in May. In the bigger picture, he’s spoken of his ambition for The Movement to one day act as a right-wing counterbalance to philanthropist George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, which have provided billions to liberal causes in Europe.

“It’s a club of goodwill,” said Modrikamen. “If… you try to impose a very precise line on a certain number of issues, then you enter into all these disagreements. That’s why we say it’s just a club with four or five principles, with only advantages — no fees, no commitments from the members.”

As for that inaugural convention, no firm date has been set — it could be November, or January.

“Those are populists!” From Washington to Vienna, wherever elections are scheduled, the question immediately arises: Will the populists or the others win? The squad of populists includes politicians from the FPÖ, AfD and of course Donald Trump. According to the critics, these exaggerated problems and make promises that cannot be fulfilled at all. What is the difference between closeness to the people and populism? And isn’t every successful politician also a populist?

  29. ITALY – ‘Foggia incident caused by violent arrest of Gambia migrant’
    Committee publishes video on Facebook

ANSA) – Foggia, October 10 – Migrants did not attack police officers outside a migrant camp but instead tried to prevent the “brutal arrest” of a 26-year-old Gambian asylum seeker who was handcuffed to the tire of a police car, an organization representing migrant rights said Wednesday, publishing a video on Facebook.

The farm workers’ committee ‘Campagne in lotta’ said there was no “vile aggression” against the officers by some 50 migrants on Monday at the asylum seeker processing center at Borgo Mezzanone after the police stopped the Gambian, Omar Jallow, as police union SAP previously claimed.

In the video, the Gambian man is seen handcuffed to the tire of a police car, agitated and with a wounded arm, while a friend tries to medicate him and a group of migrants is screaming: “Leave him alone, he is not an animal”.

Meanwhile on Wednesday Interior Minister and Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini said Jallow, an asylum seeker, will be expelled from Italy in record time.

“Protection denied! These criminal fake refugees” must leave Italy, said Salvini.

    50 migrants attack 2 police

    – Foggia, October 8 – Some 50 migrants attacked and injured two police outside a migrant camp in Foggia on Monday, police union SAP said.

SAP said the migrants punched and kicked the officers at the asylum seeker processing centre at Borgo Mezzanone after the police stopped a 26-year-old Gambian who was then arrested for trying to run them over.

SAP asked for “greater safeguards for police operating on the street, such as tasers for example”.

The officers suffered wounds that doctors said would heal in 15 and 30 days respectively.

50 migrants clash with police in Foggia, Italy

About 50 migrants from a migrant reception center in Foggia clashed with police in an attempt to prevent two police officers from arresting a 26-year-old Gambian they had stopped for a check, according to the Italian police union SAP.
Two police officers were wounded when migrants surrounded them and allegedly began to assault them by kicking, punching, and throwing objects, in an attempt to prevent the officers from arresting a migrant, the police union SAP said.

Other police squads arrived to stop the violence, which took place in a shantytown near the migrant reception center in Borgo Mezzanone, about 15 km outside Foggia in the southern Italian region Apulia, where numerous migrants have been camped out for some time.

According to the police union SAP, there were “about 50” migrants involved in the attack, and the union is calling for “better protection for police officers working on the streets, such as tasers”.

The wounded officers from the police department in Cerignola were hospitalized.

    Chase of a Gambian citizen

The incident began with a check on migrant farm workers employment conditions and illegal immigration. The officers signaled a car speeding towards Borgo Mezzanone to stop, but rather than stopping, the driver allegedly attempted to run the officers over.

A chase ensued, which continued on country roads and ended when the Gambian citizen driving the car stopped his car in the shantytown near the migrant reception center. The two officers got out of their car and began chasing the man, and managed to stop him despite his resistance as well as that of several migrants who, accoding to police, intervened, kicking and punching the officers to try to help the man escape. Additional police squads arrived to break up the fighting.

The Gambian man, Omar Jallow, 26, has a criminal record and was arrested for resisting arrest, violence and wounding a public official.

    Police call for increased protection

“The intervention of other squads prevented worse from happening. Episodes like this are not new, and certainly, part of what pushes people like this to commit crimes is the knowledge that they will go unpunished,” said Francesco Pulli, national secretary of police union SAP.

“There must be serious penalties for those who do not respect the rules, and there must be better protections for police working on the street, such as tasers, for example. If the opposite had happened, no one would have hesitated to say it was racism. It’s time for those who make mistakes to pay, and for the police to be put in a condition to defend themselves and operate in complete safety in situations like this, to give a positive signal to the community,” he said.
