1. Right and wrong are not predicated on safety,rather justice and fairness.You do not rearrange society to suit the insecurities of a group of citizens,rather you rearrange the injustices in order to mitigate fears,hated and intolerance.

2. I think that it is appropriate that the capital of Israel is officially recognized by the US government as being Jerusalem. I support the Jewish homeland of Israel and deplore the incessant war unjustly waged by Muslims bring the land of Israel back under the heel of Islam. Shapiro in the main makes a good case for the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of a free and Jewish Israel.

   Where his case is less well made is at the outset of his opinions, when he states something to the effect that Jerusalem is important to Christianity because it was important to Judaism as it is important to Islam because it was important to Judaism. This is a reductionist description that invites a false comparison between Christianity and Islam as late-comer parvenus and interlopers. This is certainly not the case with Christianity. Consequently, Shapiro’s words could be taken as trivializing the relationship between Christianity and Judaism.

   Christianity didn’t just show up in Jerusalem because they saw that the Jews had it. Christianity was _born_ in Jerusalem, of _Jews_ that understood their beliefs to be the fulfillment of _Jewish_ scripture. Indeed, neither Judaism nor Islam was born in Jerusalem. Judaism was born at Mt.Sinai as Islam was born in a cave located in Mt. Hira.

   I write this not to declare a Christian _waqf_ upon Jerusalem, nor in anyway to lessen support of Israel and its rightful capital Jerusalem. I write this to remind those of goodwill that justice is best served by truthful history.

   • Despite the beliefs of Christians (and Muslims) in the importance of Moses as a law-giver, the Jewish tradition is that Abraham’s first act of faith was the start of the Hebrew religion, whose adherents are Jews. Judaism’s connection to Jerusalem is through its historic use as a center of worship and government. Not surprisingly, the Reform movement of Jews, which has its own tradition of a New Jersualem, rejected Trump’s proclamation. Has any movement of Christianity ever rejected its connection to the Holy Land, depending on whether the LDS is included?

     • Right. Judaism was born with Abraham. The Binding of Isaac, the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, etc. Moses was much later. David, then Jesus from the tribe of Judah.

       Christians – practicing believers – are our brethren. Root and branch, flesh and blood. American Christians are vital partners in the defense of Israel, the nation-state of the Jewish people. Whether it’s the arrival of the Messiah as Jews figure, or the return of the Savior for Christians – that’s THE place.

       Precious few in Europe can be counted among us siblings. They didn’t identify with us in the 1930s and 1940s and they don’t now. With every manifest expression of Jew-hate, listen to the bell tolling for Christians.

     • “Reformed” is an offshoot cult of Judaism. Mostly ethnic [DNA] Jews who don’t follow Torah. They identity with the Holocaust instead of Eretz Yisroel.

       • Please, separate the theology from the person. Don’t curse Reform Jews. It’s OK to say “I disagree” and leave it at that.
