As reader’s of this site will be aware, Michael Hanson’s excellent film, Killing Europe, was cancelled within 24 hours of its planned showing at the Ottawa Public Library thanks to severe pressure from highly illiberal forces.

It was however, shown a week later at The Zionist Centre in Toronto to a packed house, and to a standing ovation.

Some threats were made by far left wing violent extremist groups like ANTIFA and other agents, but pretty much nothing happened this time.

Here is an article that is old world journalism. It asks the right questions and attempts to unravel the rhetorical weapons being used to destroy the basic liberal values and individual rights of all of us in the West.

Now have a look at this one from a publication that calls itself, “The Torontoist”

An Islamophobic documentary made its world premiere on Sunday in Toronto when it was screened at the Toronto Zionist Centre, at an event hosted by the Jewish Defense League and Act For Canada.

Killing Europe uses examples of real and horrific assaults to portray all Muslim migrants as violent rapists or, at the very least, complicit in these crimes.

 

The Ottawa Public Library cancelled a planned screening of the film in late November after complaints by Ottawa Against Fascism and human rights lawyer Richard Warman. In an interview with Metro News, filmmaker Michael Hansen said the cancellation constituted an act of censorship and claimed his ability to screen his movie was a question of free speech.

 

Hansen attended the Toronto showing, according to the invitation issued by the Jewish Defense League, an extreme Zionist group that often provides security for anti-Muslim events and demonstrations. It was hosted in partnership with ACT! for Canada, the Canadian offshoot of ACT! for America, which is the largest anti-Muslim group in the United States, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

 

Hansen was provided with questions and an opportunity to comment and declined to do so.

The article is quite the mix of fabrication and half truths. Some readers noticed and commented appropriately:

And when the author was called on it, the comments where not just closed but removed altogether.

This is a free country and people should be free to write whatever they want and hold and broadcast whatever political opinion they want. And in that spirit, I thought I would allow people to comment here on that article, once they have actually clicked over to read it of course. Seems only proper. Even better if you have seen the movie, which you can watch here.

One update. The article says that “Hansen was provided with questions and an opportunity to comment and declined to do so..”.

According to Mr. Hansen however, he was sent a list of questions and Michael offered to do a Skype interview with the journalist and the journalist declined. A rather important omission from the article some may say.

  3. A man who vandalized a Central Florida mosque by smashing windows and lights with a machete and leaving bacon at the scene pleaded guilty to criminal mischief to a place of worship.

    The state attorney’s office serving Brevard and Seminole counties said Michael Wolfe was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by 15 years of probation after he pleaded guilty Tuesday. The sentence had a hate crime enhancement.

    The 37-year-old was sentenced as a habitual offender. Titusville police arrested Wolfe in January 2016 after the New Year’s Day vandalism. A surveillance video showed him smashing lights, cameras and windows with a machete.

  4. As for the documentary, ‘Killing Europe’ – the targets of the criticism were not PRIMARILY the Muslim migrants: the deepest, most pointed criticism this documentary leveled was against the local governments.

    Because being afraid of being labeled ‘racist’ or ‘Islamophobic’, these governments (local, regional and national – not to mention EU) refused to apply the law equally to the offenders, because these particular offenders happened to be Muslims.

    Had they been Jehova’s Witnesses – and the governing bodies had refused to apply the rule of law equally for fear of being labelled haters against JW’s – this video would have highlighted these crimes.

    This is much less of a documentary demonstrating SOME Muslims committing crimes as it is a documentary showing how various levels of government have failed to apply the rule of law equally to all perps, regardless of their background…

    When one – and only one – class of citizens/peoples receives a preferential treatment in front of the law, the backlash is guaranteed to come. People documenting this are simply the messengers, and ought not be punished for the true and accurate message they are delivering.
