    A gunman on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas Strip casino opened fire Sunday night on an outdoor music festival below, killing more than 50 people and injuring in excess of 400, Metro Police said.

    Officers confronted the suspect at Mandalay Bay, across the street from the concert grounds, where he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Authorities identified him as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite.

      Authorities shut down part of the Las Vegas Strip and Interstate 15 after receiving reports of an active shooter at the Route 91 Harvest festival, near the Mandalay Bay Casino, at about 10:10 p.m. local time.

      Authorities ruled out terrorism, NPR reported.

    Singer Jake Owen, on stage at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas where a gunman opened fire Sunday night, described the bloody scene as something lifted directly out of a Hollywood movie.

    Owen had just taken to the stage with Luke Combs and other performers and was standing just 50 feet from headliner Jason Aldean when he heard what he thought was gunfire.

    A gunman opened fire during a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night — killing more than 20 people and wounding over 100 with a high-powered assault rifle before being shot by police, according to officials.

    Cops confirmed early Monday that the shooter was dead and said they believed he acted alone.

    Officials described him as a local Las Vegas resident but offered no other details.

    Las Vegas police responded to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino around 10 p.m. after receiving calls about an active shooter targeting concertgoers at the Route 91 country music fest.

      This story is still remarkably fluid as details are still emerging, but based on the video posted here it sounds like the assailant (ID’d as Stephen Paddock) was using an automatic weapon, perhaps with extended magazines. OR perhaps he had a cache of multiple weapons at the ready as the shooting seems to go well beyond the standard 30 bullet limit of most automatic weapons.

    America is reeling from the worst mass shooting in its history after at least 50 people were killed and more than 406 wounded at a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

    The shooting broke out on the final night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by 22,000 and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean.

    Police say the shooter was 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock, a resident of nearby Mesquite, Nevada, who opened fire on the festival taking place at Las Vegas Village from a room across the street in the Mandalay Bay Hotel at 10:08pm.

    Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said that his officers breached Paddock’s room on the 32nd floor and found Paddock dead inside, among an ‘arsenal’ of weapons. Lombardo said that Paddock shot himself dead

      • For those who are unfamiliar with the US Gun Laws.

        Fully automatic weapons are regulated by Federal Law, to legally a full auto you must get a through background check by the feds, then you have to get permission from either the County Sheriff or the local Chief of Police who have to approve the location and manner in which you are going to store the weapon. Then you have to pay a $500.00 transfer tax to the Federal Government.

        The Gun Control Act of 1986 froze the number of full auto weapons that could be legally purchased, no one can make a new full auto and register it for civilian use. The full auto weapon/s used were probaby purchased illegally, which means he had some contacts in the black market to be able to do this.

        As one man on Fox said the weapon used as either belt or drum fed, you can tell this by the length of the bursts that were fired.

        This attack was well planned, well financed, and executed with a degree of competence that says a lot of training. He located the place that gave him the best view of the kill zone and waited until the time when he could achieve the maximum number of causalities. He was also on a suicide mission, he chose the location for the maximum damage but one that gave him no chance to get away.
