      • True. Blame Islam on the quest for an alternate trade route and blame Columbus. For whatever.

Blame the Catholics, Ferdinand and Isabella [aka The Catholic Monarchs], for sponsoring the voyage. They paid for it out of the fortune confiscated from the Jews of Spain. Expelled in 1492, no coincidence.

I thought the Queen pawned her crown to pay for the voyage…?

(Never mind that Ferdinand was 1/4 Jewish. And Isabella’s Confessor, Torquemada, the Dominican priest who instituted the Spanish Inquisition, would’ve flunked the Nuremberg test and would be eligible for Right of Return in Israel today.)

[The Jews arrived in the Iberian Peninsula BEFORE the BIRTH of Christ. They were Roman citizens. There wasn’t much of anybody to “conquer” so the Romans built the roads and bridges and aqueducts that made the place such a prize.]

Blame the Hispano-Portuguese Jews for their participation in the Voyage of Columbus. They were also among the first to settle in the New World. Colonists. Today they would be searching outer-space for refuge, but, by the grace of G-d, they’ve returned to their own historic homeland.

They were also foremost among the convert priests who documented the abuses of the Conquistadores in the New World. Their majestic prose became known as La leyenda negra, a chronicle of history’s most depraved invaders’ abuse of indigenous peoples. Their chronicles have been cited as evidence of malfeasance from the Protestant Reformation to the alt-Left today.

Their sensitivity was unusually acute even by today’s standards. Without casting aspersions on their motivations, one might wonder: Could their vision have been darkened by having witnessed the forced conversions, torture, and execution of their own family members back home?

        Think about it….

….Victimology-driven historiography can go only so far. Eve? the Snake? Your Grandpa the Great Ape?

History is always somebody’s story. La leyenda negra endures, while the story of the Islamic slave trade is somehow less compelling.
