Toronto man arrested and charged with hate speech, for looking for hate speech

This may be the moment that those who escaped from behind the Iron Curtain must be wondering whether or not they made the right call in the long term.

Even the Prime Minister responded to this arrest with the exact kind of nonsense that the brilliant video we posted here yesterday, spoke of with excellent clarity.

If you have not seen the video, please take the time to do so, It is really one of the best things on the subject of what communism really is, to have crossed my laptop.

Notorious Mississauga blogger known for anti-Muslim rants faces hate-crime charge

Kevin J. Johnston, a 45-year-old resident of Mississauga, Ont., faces charges related to his controversial, anti-Muslim postings on his own website as well as social media

(Notorious sounds like a good first word for a news item. Fair and balanced I would say. Nothing influencing the reader here at all)

A self-described “journalist & social commentator” known for posting angry video rants attacking Muslims and a range of other targets has been charged with committing a hate crime.

 

Kevin J. Johnston, a 45-year-old resident of Mississauga, Ont., posts videos on his website freedomreport.ca and to various social media platforms, and at one point had his accounts suspended by YouTube and Twitter.

 

Though he carried on fights with various public figures (and even ran for mayor of Mississauga in 2014) he focused much of his attention on schools, which he accused of “indoctrinating” students with Islamic ideology. In one video, he offered a bounty — first $1,000, later increased to $2,500 — to anyone who filmed a Muslim student in a Mississauga school “spewing hate speech during Friday prayers.”

(I wonder if the Post describes Paul McCartney as a “Self described bass player”. Or Vincent Van Gogh as “A self described painter”. Notice that the post article, which is pretty much pure derision start to finish, still has to deal with the fact that this man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime, for offering a reward to people who show evidence of hate crimes by Muslims in public schools.)

Police in the Toronto suburb of Peel are charging a local man  who was concerned with Muslim students being granted special Friday prayer time with “wilful promotion of hatred against an identifiable group.”

 

CBC News reports that Kevin Johnston made news a few months ago when he offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who could provide video of Muslim students “spewing hate speech during Friday prayers.” Police say Johnston was arrested for “numerous incidents” and won’t say if the YouTube video is one of those but that the charge “concerns over information published on various social media sites.”

 

The Peel region has been the focus of numerous school board protests because Muslim students are allowed to conduct Friday prayer services in Arabic and many parents are concerned that these events are potential focal points for radicalization.

Many many years go, well before 911, I remember a story about two fourteen year old boys in Pakistan who had been arrested for blasphemy and were on trial with a potential death penalty. They had, allegedly, written something blasphemous on a piece of paper and thrown it from a scooter towards a mosque.

As sharia law prevents a judge from looking at anything blasphemous, the judge just had to take the prosecutions word for it, that inside the cigar box, was indeed a piece of paper, with blasphemous writing, that the boys had thrown towards the mosque.

Lets call it, ‘Schrodinger’s evidence’. Except the box never gets opened, so we never know what state the blasphemy was actually in. Either way the boys were indeed sentenced to death. Public outcry had the sentence mitigated and I do not remember how it worked out, but I followed it in dead-tree media as much as I could at the time, not realizing that it would become the kind of jurisprudence Canada would see as normal when it comes to all matters islamic.

The Ontario government has already branded the opponents of the Muslim school prayers as racists and Islamophobes. In March, two cabinet ministers issued a public statement in support of the Muslim prayer days. “I have met with the leadership of Peel and have obviously been very concerned about what I’ve seen and heard,” said Education Minister Mitzie Hunter in a joint statement with Children and Youth Services Minister Michael Coteau. Later, she told reporters in Toronto, “It felt important to Minister Coteau and I to really reinforce our expectations … there’s just no tolerance for discrimination of any sort. We don’t tolerate issues of racism and Islamophobia.”

 

The school prayers have become an issue because local imams are invited to pray and speak to the students in Arabic, and the school board cannot provide assurances that the students are not being subjected to radical Islamic indoctrination.

 

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented on the YouTube video in April, saying critics of Muslims having special Friday prayer sessions need “to ensure that everyone understands [and respects] their neighbors.”

He further claimed that “Canadians have understood that our differences are a source of strength, not a source of weakness” at a news conference just outside of Toronto.

And now you know why I reposted the nonsense video. Trudeau has adopted rhetorical nonsense as his modus, and backs it up with the force of the state. The Canadian prime minister who openly stated that he admired the basic dictatorship of China cause it made it easy to “get things done”. There are not a lot of places left to go which still have any kind of reason or freedom. The options are fight or submit, and clearly even counselling fighting for the laws and freedoms we knew a few years ago, has become a ‘hate crime’.
