A NOTORIOUS convicted terrorist from western Sydney who fled Australia under a false passport last year has been identified among militant fighters now laying a bloody siege to Iraq, intelligence sources have confirmed.
Khaled Sharrouf, who spent almost four years in prison for his part in plotting a terrorist attack in Sydney, has posted photos on a private Facebook page under a new assumed name, boasting to friends back in Australia that he had joined the murderous Sunni uprising in Iraq.
An intelligence source told The Daily Telegraph that they were “deeply disturbed” by the development, claiming that highly trained jihadists from Australia now posed a serious national security threat if they managed to slip back into the country.

5. City Mosque will broadcast call to prayer every day throughout Games
THE Islamic call to prayer will be recited daily through loudspeakers at Scotland’s largest mosque during the Commonwealth Games. Representatives from Glasgow Central Mosque have been given the go-ahead by Glasgow City Council to broadcast the two-minute call – known as the adhan – every evening, with the Games coinciding with Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
The mosque in the Gorbals is just a short distance from the athletes’ village and a number of the 72 countries taking part in the Games are Muslim or have a significant Muslim population. An estimated 400 athletes and their supporters will be fasting during Ramadan.

An explosion targeted on Monday the Lebanese military check point in Beirut, Al Arabiya correspondent reported.

BEIRUT: A suspected car bomb blew up outside a cafe near a Lebanese army checkpoint in Beirut late Monday, security sources said.
The sources said a suicide bomber blew himself up near an Army checkpoint in Tayyouneh, at one of the main entrances into the capital’s southern suburbs. According to the sources, the car was moving against traffic when it exploded thus confirming the thesis that a suicide bomber has carried out the attack.
The sources said several people were wounded but no casualties were recorded at the cafe.
A suicide bombing at a police checkpoint on the Beirut-Damascus highway last Friday that fueled fears of violent spillover from Syria and Iraq. A police officer was killed and 33 people were wounded in the bombing.
