Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood says new constitution must be based on Islamic Shariah law

CAIRO — Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood said Wednesday it is committed to enshrining Islamic Shariah law as the main source of a new constitution, seeking to mollify ultraconservative Islamists who accuse the group of not advocating strongly enough for Islamic rule.

Islamic influence in Egypt’s governance is the most inflammatory issue following last year’s ousting of longtime President Hosni Mubarak. Islamists have swept elections since then, and the Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi is the president — but the Brotherhood faces criticism from even more stringent Islamists as much as from liberals.

  1. Well of course, the MB now controls Egypt they are going to institute Sharia no matter what anyone says.

  2. I find it frustrating and disheartening that I seem to know more about the Islamic terror thing than the entire US Government. How could anyone with half a brain have thought that the Muslim Brotherhood getting into power was in any way a good thing, or that the “Arab Spring” was some kind of democracy movement? And do they realize that the actual purpose of Jihad is none other than to see the imposition of Sharia Law? There isn’t anything else, theoretically – Jihad is over and done with once Sharia has been imposed. Game, set, match. The largest Arab country and our greatest Arab ally is now another Iran, only a Sunni version. Be bummed, folks…it’s a very, very bad thing.
