I really admire this man a great deal. But I do confess… I don’t get the “vast herds of reindeer” reference. Is he suggesting Finland is going to rule the world?
I am with you on the reindeer comment, but he is right about the stupidity of following the failed policies with more of the same.
Was he possibly thinking about lemmings?

The EU is dead, no matter what it does or does not.
The great concern remains the Caliphate.
It is being explained to me by a good freind of the blogs as,
Bureaucrats. Like an unchecked herd. They must feed to survive. What their snouts and teeth have not fed upon, their hooves have left distorted.
The wild herd absorbing to subsist
and trampeling the beauty beneath as they do.

If so, then he is either not honest about his view on the EU, or he wishes Turkey no good.
He says he wants them to decline the offer even though he knows they won’t. He feels we “owe” the offer of EU membership because they were on the western side during the Cold War. Absurd.
maybe he is changing his mind

The poem is the Fall of Rome by W. H. Auden:
