Rebel Report on CBC active measures Aktivnye meropriyatiya

Here is a piece by Rebel News that does not quite grasp its own profundity. It reveals Rebel and the people it is trying to help are missing a few vital keys to fully grasping what is going on: namely an active measure.

One definition:

The term, which dates back to the 1920s, includes operations such as espionage, propaganda, sabotage, assassination, and the collection of kompromat for blackmail purposes based on the foreign policy objectives of the Soviet and Russian governments.

Usually we only see the end results of an active measure. This means we see the headline shaming the political target, but not the setup that created the shame. Another example was the placement of Nazi flags by state actors among the Truckers Freedom Convoy, which was intended to disgrace that whole movement in the eyes of the Canadian public.

This Rebel report gives us a rare glimpse into the actual machinery of an active measure. The language of dialectics, of which active measures is a vital component, is difficult and abstract and hard to learn. It becomes, however, an increasingly blunt instrument the more one learns it. Metaphorically, describing in detail a loaded hand gun to a blind person is an abstraction until the gun is fired and the bullet hits them, whereupon the “Aha!” moment instantly erases all abstraction, along with the implied cleverness of the words used to describe the gun.
