Tried to enjoy myself last night, and was, until the GM called at 9:30. My first thought was I missed an alarm call. Then I heard the tone in her voice when she said she just spoke to the VP of Stores for Canada.I could tell by her voice it was not good. I’ve NEVER heard her break down before. EVER.  Kirsten said they will be liquidating our store. I asked how many. She said ALL OF THEM. It will be an expedited liquidation process. We discussed the declining traffic since COVID and added costs like Carbon Tax and the tariff war with US playing a major factor. What this govt doesn’t realize is some businesses cannot lower their footprint. 3-6 floor stores w/ multiple gas boilers to heat them and massive ACs to cool them cannot be made more efficient. And add to that increasing shipping costs and declining sales. FML. Now I have to go into work today and tell 82 staff that HBC is done.

A couple of replies from the thread:

9300 employees. Not to mention subcontractors like delivery drivers, cleaner, maintenance workers… this will be felt across ALL of Canada.

  1. The Canadian fertility rate sank to a new low at 1.3 children per woman in 2023.

    Soon it won’t matter that the Hudson Bay Company is gone because we’ll be extinct.

    Canada has now joined the group of “lowest-low” fertility countries, including South Korea, Spain, Italy and Japan, with 1.3 children per woman or less.

  2. We can add Amazon to the list as well as the cheap Made In China. Let’s not forget the extravagantly high municipal taxes.

I assume that that fertility rate cited includes that of the “immigrants”, “New Canadians”, or whatever politically correct name has been assigned (and don’t you forget it…); so what is the fertility rate of actual, white Canadians? As a USian, we are facing the same desolation, unfortunately. Good night, and good luck.

  4. What is the Liberal plan for Canada? We are now more and more fertile ground for the WEF. Brett Hawes’ Substack post of today is highly relevant. A thoughtful history of similar processes in other countries.

      The Liberal plan is simply to obey all instructions from George Soros, Klaus Schwab and the UN and do exactly what their told and continue unravelling the Canadian mind and economy in their desperate rush to destroy our economy and rebuild it to their liking, which will be total control of the people.
