JD Vance’s Book Dropped by German Publisher
The Berlin-based publisher Ullstein has dropped its German translation of Hillbilly Elegy—JD Vance‘s 2016 memoir—in response to him becoming Donald Trump‘s running mate.
On July 15, the former president announced the Ohio senator as his pick for the Republican vice presidential nominee in November’s election.
Speaking to the German news magazine Der Spiegel, a spokesperson for the publishing house said it decided not to renew its licensing agreement or issue a reprint for the book because Vance represents a “demagogic, exclusionary policy.”
“At the time of publication, the book made a valuable contribution to understanding the disintegration of U.S. society,” the spokesperson said in translation, with the magazine adding that “Vance had offered an authentic portrayal of growing up in the impoverished white working class, and he also repeatedly distanced himself from Donald Trump at the time.”
“He is now officially acting on his side and represents an aggressive, demagogic, exclusionary policy,” the spokesperson said.
Or maybe the publisher decided to do it for ideological reasons without state diktats. But they did not do it for business reasons. There is a strong narrative associated with this company. Piercing it to understand its policies would probably require a list of materials they do publish. What I have seen so far does show a strong far left bias.

Maybe once upon a time this didn’t matter as the basic systems that let us live our lives with the illusion of liberty at least, and some chance at securing some afluence was intact. But now those systems are deconstructed. And here we are, looking at more and more proof that the state killed massive numbers of people knowingly by lieing about the disease, the vaxx, and alternative treatments that at worst did not harm you and at best could have saved millions of lives if state-stats are to be believed about the disease itself.

The week before, two masked men jumped out of a vehicle and fired shots at Bais Chaya Mushka – a Jewish girls’ school in Toronto. Between these two horrific incidents, a man was charged for shooting at another Jewish school, Yeshiva Gedola in Montreal, last November. Gedola was attacked not once, but twice within a single week. Luckily, none of these incidents resulted in injuries.
