3. Toronto Police Services: Suspected Hate-Motivated Arson and Graffiti Investigation,Steeles Avenue and Petrolia Road

(Now I wonder what this could be about? The total lack of information pretty much tells you everything though)

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of a suspected hate-motivated arson and graffiti investigation, targeting a local business.

On Wednesday January 3, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers were called to the area of  Steeles Avenue and Petrolia Road for reports of a fire inside a store.

The fire was extinguished by Toronto Fire. Officers also located graffiti on the outside of the building.

The Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is investigating this incident as a suspected hate-motivated crime.

“This isn’t lawful protest protected by Constitutional rights. It’s criminal. It’s violent, targeted and organized. We’ll use all resources available to investigate, arrest and prosecute those who are responsible for this,” said Staff Supt Pauline Gray, Detective Operations.

This investigation will be conducted in consultation with the Ministry of the Attorney General and with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office. 

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information, or dash cam or video footage, to contact police at 416-808-3100, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com. The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided.

5. Harvard’s Claudine Gay set to keep her nearly $900K annual salary despite resigning as university president

She won’t be leading the Crimson, but green shouldn’t be a problem.

Outgoing Harvard University president Claudine Gay will still likely earn nearly $900,000 a year despite being forced to resign her position as the school’s top administrator.

Political science professor Gay — who stepped down amid a tempest of allegations that she did not do enough to combat antisemitism and academic plagiarism Tuesday — will return to a position on the Cambridge, Mass., school’s faculty.

Prior to being named president just six months ago, Gay earned $879,079 as a faculty of arts and sciences dean in 2021 and $824,068 in 2020, according to records published by the university.

Her new position was not specified Tuesday, but she is expected to receive a salary comparable to what she previously received — if not higher.

(Anyone who didn’t see this coming hasn’t been paying attention. Also whoever replaces her may look less communist, but will be at least as much. Like when Trudeau gets replaced with mark Carney.)
