This site is extremely careful about what we post concerning the Russia Ukraine war. For one thing, it’s very hard to know what is true. Those interested in finding materials upon which to make a judgement are advised to read any comment by Yucki on the matter in the comments, as well as many other people who post excellent materials. Martin for one, who I hope comes back to the site soon, once his understandable annoyance with the Firewall, slowing down publication of comments subsides a little.
But this looks legit. As far as we can tell, the leader of the Mercenary army that operates for Russia has decided to attack Russian leadership and appears to be doing so.
Moscow is in lockdown amid growing fears of a military coup as Yvegney Prigozhin and his feared 25,000-strong Wagner militia take control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, saying they are ‘ready to die’ as they vow revenge for a military strike from Putin’s forces that the mercenary leader says killed some of his men.
All public events have been cancelled in the Russian capital as Vladimir Putin prepares to take to TV in a bid to affirm his increasingly shaky grip on power.
Prigozhin issued a new message at about 7:30am Saturday Moscow time saying his men have infiltrated the Southern Defense Command in Rostov-on-Don and that the city’s airfield was under his control. Residents have been told to stay in their homes by government officials, but some were seen out observing what was happening, even live-streaming the action on their cell phones.
Update(1815ET):There are now widespread reports and circulating footage of additional armored vehicles deployed by military police units in key parts of Russia, including in Moscow and Rostov regions, with TASS saying they have been ordered to protect government buildings, as speculation that Wagner’s Prigozhin is making real moves against Russian leadership tonight.

Russia’s Federal Security Service late Friday announced a criminal case against Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeniy Prigozhin, accusing him of “incitement to armed rebellion” after he declared an open conflict with Russia’s military leadership and called on Russians to join 25,000 Wagner fighters against Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other top commanders.

MOSCOW, June 24 (Reuters) – Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Saturday his forces were ready to help put down a mutiny by Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin and to use harsh methods if necessary.
Kadyrov in a statement posted on Telegram called Prigozhin’s behaviour “a knife in the back” and called on Russian soldiers not to give in to any “provocations.”
He said that Chechen units were moving towards the “zones of tension” and would act to “preserve Russia’s units and defend its statehood”.
Kadyrov, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin who commands extensive military forces in Chechnya, had previously been seen as a Prigozhin ally, sharing some of the Wagner boss’s criticisms of the Russian military hierarchy.
In recent weeks, however, Chechen commanders aligned with Kadyrov had begun criticising Prigozhin’s regular outbursts against the defence ministry.

From the get-go, I thought, and still do, that this is a brilliant Psy-Op.
Much of the footage provided was misinterpreted. As an example, reports of a shooting and we saw people running and a Wagner guy with his rifle up on a door. Well… he was banging the top of the door with his rifle and it sounded like gunshots.
We saw soldiers on a bridge at Moscow’s entrance. The Chechen soldiers were there also as they posted photos of themselves. It could have been them.
And now, all is resolved peacefully with Prigoshin stationed in Belarus, some 140 miles from Kyiv via the new highway. And Russian Special Forces are stationed at the border in Belarus.
And, unimpeded, the Ahmat mercenaries managed to travel some 150 km south from their encampments in Ukraine
I could say more but few can change my mind that it was a brilliant psy-op in which Putin came out as victorious while uniting his nation.
Worse, Zelenskyi showed himself as a total fool.

Russia coup latest: Kremlin denies Putin has fled Moscow
A Kremlin spokesman has denied reports that Vladimir Putin has fled Moscow by plane.
One of several planes that Putin uses for official visits took off from Moscow at 2.15 pm local time, according to Flight Radar, which tracks aircraft in real-time.
Less than half an hour later, it went off radar about 150 kilometres from Mr Putin’s official residence.
“Putin is working at the Kremlin,” his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Tass news agency when asked about reports of Putin going to the northwest, possibly St Petersburg.

Late on Friday, June 23, 2023, Wagner Group mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin released a video on Telegram purportedly showing the aftermath of a Russian Defense Ministry missile attack against his fighters at a “rear base.”
In a series of audio clips, Prigozhin subsequently announced that he would lead an armed campaign to “punish” the Defense Ministry officials supposedly responsible for the attack.
Prigozhin insists that he is waging a “march of justice,” not a coup, but the FSB soon announced a criminal case to investigate his “incitement to armed insurrection.”
Wagner forces seized control of a key military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don and Prigozhin published a video where he humiliates Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.
President Vladimir Putin then made a national address denouncing what he called a “stab in the back.”

Putin signs off on martial law penalties
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed off on new punishments for violations of martial law, including up to 30 days in jail and fines.
The new law does not, however, list specific violations like abuse of curfews or the refusal to work.
Officially, martial law has not yet been imposed in Moscow but is in force in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine such as Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhya.
On Saturday, several Russian regions declared an anti-terror emergency amid the Wagner mercenary army’s uprising.
White House: Biden calls European leaders over Russia crisis
US President Joe Biden spoke with the leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom as mutinous Wagner group forces barrelled towards Moscow after seizing a southern Russian city overnight, the White House said.
“The leaders discussed the situation in Russia. They also affirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine,” a readout said.
Meanwhile, the top US military officer, Army General Mark Milley, canceled a scheduled trip
to the Middle East on Saturday because of the situation in Russia, his spokesperson said.
Milley, who was meant to travel to Israel and Jordan, also spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart, Milley’s office said in a separate statement.

After getting its troop columns within 125 miles of Moscow, rogue CEO of PMC Wagner, Evgene Prigozhin, announces that he turned his troops around and is going back to bases, and taking other steps to de-escalate tensions with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
This comes as the attention of the world focused on the rebellion by Wagner mercenaries, probably caused by the attempt by the Russian military to put all PMC troops under contract with the Ministry of Defense, effectively ending Wagner’s total independence as it stands now.
Some interesting links ..more evidence the coup was a US/UK/NATO inspired plan that was uncovered earlier and Russia allowed it to play out. Whether Prigozhin was a Ukraine asset , or a Russian double agent remains to be seen , but it had the result among other things of legitimizing the disbanding of Wagner and uncovering 5th column operatives inside Russia.
