Reader’s Links for February 6, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. EU keeps PKK on terrorism list (yenisafak, Feb 6, 2021)

“The European Union on Friday renewed its terrorist list for a further six months.

The sanctions list features 14 persons and 21 entities or groups, including the PKK and Dalokay Sanli, a senior figure of the terrorist group.

Terrorist organizations DHKP/C, IBDA-C, and TAK — a PKK offshoot — are also on the list.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – also listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and the US – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.

In order to combat terrorism, the bloc freezes the funds and financial assets in the EU of the enlisted persons and groups, and also bans EU operators to make economic resources available for them.

The bloc applies a separate sanction mechanism for terror groups Al-Qaida and Daesh/ISIS.”

  2. US woman becomes Muslim after watching Turkish series (yenisafak, Feb 6, 2021)

“A 60-year-old American woman has become Muslim after being influenced by Resurrection: Ertugrul, a popular Turkish TV series.

The Wisconsin resident chose the name of “Khadija” after her conversion to Islam and told Anadolu Agency that she came across Resurrection: Ertugrul while browsing Netflix.

“I looked into it, the details about it. So I started watching,” said Khadija, adding she was really interested in Islam after watching a few episodes.

“It was talking about the history that I knew nothing about. What I heard about God, Islam, peace, justice and helping the oppressed drew my attention and connected me to the series,” she added.

Stressing that the dialogues of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi gave a new meaning to her life, she said his words made her think a lot and sometimes cry.

“The series attracted me so much that I finished all its episodes four times and started watching it for the fifth time. I search the images on the internet and watch them learn more,” she added.

Underlining that the series had a great impact on her orientation to Islam, she said: “My curiosity in history has connected me to the series. Fortunately, I watched this series opened my eyes and I recognized Islam.”

Although she was a Baptist Catholic, all the question marks in her head were cleared and she eventually became more interested in Islam, she said.

Noting that she read the Muslim holy book of Quran in English to learn more about Islam, she explained the process after she decided to become a Muslim.

“I was sure that I believed it now. When I researched it online, I realized that there was only a small mosque in the area where I live. When I went there, I saw that every Muslim I came across was very kind,” she said.

After the prayer, she shahadah, the Islamic declaration of faith, and chose the name of Khadija, she added.

Stressing that she encountered unexpected reactions from her friends when she said she became Muslim, Khadija said they believed that she was brainwashed.

“I no longer discuss this issue with people. I do not interfere with their beliefs. They shouldn’t have any reason to interfere with me either,” she added.

Khadija, a mother of six children, said that she caught her family watching Turkish TV series and programs. She eventually realized that her youngest son became Muslim.

Often described as a Turkish Game of Thrones, Resurrection: Ertugrul tells the story before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire in 13th century Anatolia. It illustrates the struggle of Ertugrul Gazi, the father of the empire’s first leader.”

  3. A terrorist team arrested in areas close to Iran (mehrnews, Feb 6, 2021)

“The raising of the ISIL flag in one of the villages of Seyed Sadegh city in Sulaymaniyah province made the security forces of this region suspect the presence of terrorists there.

It was not long after this incident that other flags of the same terrorist group were raised in some of the cities of this province and two members of the security forces were wounded in a bomb blast.

The apparent moves eventually led to the launching of an operation by the Sulaymaniyah security forces, in cooperation with the forces stationed in the Shahrzour, Seyed Sadegh, and Halabja areas, to thwart the group’s other possible actions.

According to the Sulaymaniyah Security Forces Command, a secret team of ISIL terrorists has been identified and arrested in the mentioned areas…”

  5. IAEA Inspectors Found Radioactive Traces on Iranian Soil Last Fall, Report Says (sputniknews, Feb 6, 2021)

“Iran has repeatedly underscored that its nuclear programme is purely peaceful, rejecting US allegations that the Islamic Republic seeks to obtain a nuclear weapon.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has quoted three unnamed diplomatic sources as saying that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors found new evidence of what they described as Iran’s undeclared nuclear activities.

The sources referred to samples that allegedly contained traces of radioactive material, and which were taken by the inspectors during a visit to two sites in Iran last fall. The location of the sites was not disclosed.

The newspaper’s sources claimed that this could indicate Iran is going ahead with efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon, adding at the same time that they “didn’t know the exact nature of what was found”.

Neither Tehran nor Washington has commented on the matter yet. Iran has repeatedly rejected accusations that it is seeking to make an atomic bomb, insisting that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only…”

  6. Former US Officials Call on Biden Administration to Rejoin Nuclear Deal With Iran, Avoid Costly War (sputniknews, Feb 6, 2021)

“Despite expressing interest in restoring the nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic during the presidential campaign, Biden has been so far reluctant to take the first step in that direction, instead suggesting that Iran should return to compliance first.

A group of ex-military, national security, and diplomatic officials have drafted an open letter to the Biden administration calling on it to apply every effort to quickly rejoin the nuclear deal with Iran. The group of 41 former US officials argued that failure to do so will result in the Islamic Republic acquiring nuclear weapons, despite Tehran repeatedly denying having such intentions.

The authors of the open letter also touched upon concerns earlier expressed by the administration, suggesting that the new nuclear agreement with Iran should address the country’s missile programme and its relations with various proxy groups in the Middle East – two points of concern of Washington’s allies in the region. Tehran dismissed the possibility of its missile programme being on the negotiating table, but the officials who drafted the open letter believe the issue still could be negotiated but only after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, the official name of the Iran nuclear deal) is restored.

“We strongly support restoring constraints on Iran’s nuclear programme by swiftly returning both Iran and the United States to the nuclear accord as a starting point for further negotiations to address the many threats posed by Iran”, the authors of the open letter said.

The open letter admitted that Tehran poses certain “threats” to the country’s national security, but stressed that the restoration of the nuclear deal should be the “paramount objective of [US] Iran policy”. The authors underscored that Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” approach towards the Islamic Republic had “proved disastrous” for US security and alleged that it led to an increase in attacks against American troops and allies in the Middle East.

The former US officials behind the letter further alleged that the development of nuclear weapons by Iran due to the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, will eventually lead to a war with Tehran. While the authors of the letter to the Biden administration did not question Washington’s ability to emerge victorious in such a conflict, they argued that the cost of achieving this result will be great.

“War with Iran would be an unmitigated disaster. While there is no question that the US would prevail, military conflict with Iran would incur unacceptable costs to the United States and ultimately fail to advance US national security”, the letter said…”

  7. Al-Qaeda, Daesh May Stage ‘a Rash of Pre-Planned Attacks’ After COVID Restrictions Lifted, UN Warns (sputniknews, Feb 6, 2021)

“In November 2020, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said that Daesh* had scaled up activities in Iraq over the past few months, damaging the security situation in the country.

Al-Qaeda* and Daesh extremists may stage “a rash of pre-planned attacks” after coronavirus pandemic-related restrictions are lifted, a UN report has claimed.

The document suggested that Daesh will try “to end its marginalisation from the news” with a new wave of violence as the terrorist group calls on supporters to spend less time on social media.

“ISIS [Daesh] has enjoyed a captive audience, with so many people facing [COVID-19] restrictions on movement and spending more time online. Threats may have accumulated during this period that remain undetected but could manifest in due course”, the survey warned.
Referring to sub-Saharan Africa, the report argued that the coronavirus pandemic “has weakened the hand of governments in conflict zones more than it has inhibited terrorist groups, and its long-term impact on economies, government resources, and allocations for international cooperation risks aggravating the [terrorist] threat further”.

While stressing the ongoing resilience of Islamic militant groups, the document, however, points out a spate of significant setbacks that have disrupted their combat capability. The report recalled that al-Qaeda has lost a lot of key leaders, whereas Daesh is seeking to revive its clout in Iraq or Syria, which is unlikely to take place in the immediate future…”

  8. Enlightenment was ‘Little More Than White Identity Politics’, ‘Racist Knowledge’ (breitbart, Feb 6, 2021)

““Black Studies” professor Kehinde Andrews of Birmingham City University has denounced the Enlightenment as “little more than White identity politics” and “racist knowledge”.

Andrews, who is Britain’s inaugural professor of “black studies”, made the comments on social media while sharing a link to an interview with the Times Higher Education Supplement discussing his upcoming book, The New Age of Empire: How Racism and Colonialism Still Rule the World.

“The enlightenment was little more than White identity politics, yet its racist knowledge still underpins university education,” alleged Andrews, who has previously made waves by claiming that “the British Empire did far more harm to the world for a far more sustained period of time” than Nazi Germany, and that the patriotic song Rule, Britannia is “racist propaganda”, among other woke pronouncements.

In the interview itself, Andrews says of Enlightenment thinkers: “the argument has always been that you can separate out their racism from their moral theory. You really can’t!”

German philosopher Immanuel Kant comes in for particular criticism, with Andrew suggesting that his work was underpinned by an assumption that “African people obviously can’t think; white people can.”

Andrews characterises Kant as “essentially arguing that he can write the Critique of Pure Reason and we can have rights [in Europe] because of the superiority of the white race… That’s where you see the Enlightenment principles permeating universities, so you create a space for elite white men to create racist knowledge…”

“It is blindingly obvious that the biggest problem for global inequality is racial: you can map poverty and race, and there’s a complete correlation. The white places are the ones with the highest GDP per capita. Africa has the lowest, and there is a hierarchy in between. This is the image of white supremacy from the Enlightenment,” Andrews claimed.

In fact, the territory with highest GDP per capita in the world, according to World Bank figures, is the Macau (Macao) Special Administrative Region of China, populated largely by Cantonese-speaking Chinese, while the country with the highest GDP per capita in the world is Luxembourg — European, but atypical due to its status as a city-state, and with no history of colonial imperialism.

Much of the remaining states and territories in the top ten are, like Macau, majority non-white, including Singapore, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Some majority-white countries which do rank highly do not appear to fit Professor Andrews’ mould, such as Ireland — a former imperial possession rather than a former imperial power.

Britain, meanwhile, which was historically the master of the greatest Western empire in history — and which funds Andrews’ university today — does not even make the World Bank’s top 20 for GDP per capita, but the Times Higher Education Supplement made no attempt to challenge the academic’s economic assertions.”

  9. Sweden: Migration-Background Lawyers Accused of Leaking Police Info to Gang (breitbart, Feb 6, 2021)

“Two migration-background lawyers have been accused of leaking confidential police investigation information to one of Stockholm’s most notorious drug-dealing gangs.

Lawyers Ekrem Güngör and Amir Amdouni have been accused of passing on confidential information to the Vårby network, a Stockholm-based criminal outfit that has been a major player in the city’s drug trafficking trade for the last decade.

The accusations come after the gang leader was arrested in Spain in October and police raided the criminal organisation in November. Around 20 members of the gang, which is also accused of being involved in shootings, currently face charges, Expressen reports.

According to the newspaper, the two lawyers, who have reportedly specialised in defending gang members, used the nicknames “the King” and “the Prince” on the encrypted messaging service Encrochat, which was infiltrated by French investigators last year.

The two men are said to have communicated in chats with members of the Vårby network on the messenger service, including the gang leader.

The lawyers are accused of helping gang members locate weapons, providing advice on avoiding being caught by police, and leaking confidential information from pretrial hearings and information under disclosure bans.

Chief Prosecutor Stefan Bergman told the newspaper that the Chancellor of Justice would determine if Güngör and Amdouni had engaged in criminal activity and that the Bar Association would also investigate the conduct of the two lawyers.

The case comes just months after another lawyer in Gothenburg was threatened with expulsion from the Bar Association after he reportedly passed on confidential information to the notorious Ali Khan clan.

The Ali Khan clan is infamous in Gothenburg, with nearly all of its male members alleged to have criminal records. Its members have also been involved in crimes ranging from extortion to murder.”

  10. Afghan officials: Separate blasts in Kabul kill 3, wound 4 (abcnews, Feb 6, 2021)

“Two separate explosions rocked the Afghan capital of Kabul on Saturday, killing at least three people including members of the minority Sikh community and wounding four others, Afghan officials said.

The first explosion hit a store in the heart of the capital, causing it to collapse and kill at least two Sikhs, according to two Afghan police officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, but the Islamic State group has targeted Sikhs and other minority communities in Afghanistan. A nationwide spike in bombings, targeted killings and violence on the battlefield comes as peace negotiations in Qatar between the Taliban and the Afghan government have stalled.

Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz said six people were wounded in the blast in the store and no one was killed. He said police were investigating what caused the explosion. The discrepancy between the two numbers could not immediately be accounted for.

In Saturday’s second explosion, Faramarz said a sticky bomb was attached to a police car and went off in northern Kabul, killing a police officer.

Tensions in Afghanistan are high amid a string of targeted killings. Some are claimed by the local Islamic State affiliate, but many go unclaimed, blamed by the government on the Taliban who have denied responsibility for most attacks.

With growing threats from IS, Afghanistan’s once-thriving community of Sikhs and Hindus has dwindled from as many as 250,000 members to fewer than 700.

IS claimed responsibility for an attack last March in which a gunman rampaged through a Sikh house of worship in the heart of Kabul, killing 25 worshippers and wounding eight.

IS claimed it carried out 82 attacks in Afghanistan in 2020, killing or wounding 821 people, including 21 assassinations. Most of the victims in its attacks were either security personnel or Shiite Muslims. However, the perpetrators of many targeted killings are unknown.”

  11. Asylum-seekers stuck in Cyprus’ cramped camp want out (abcnews, Feb 6, 2021)

“Emmanuel Conteh negotiates the muddy, rutted pathways in shorts and torn plastic flip-flops and says he can’t sleep in his heavy canvas tent at night because of the cold.

He laments the “hellish” conditions in ethnically divided Cyprus’ cramped Pournara migrant reception camp, where he’s been living for the past two months after flying to the breakaway Turkish Cypriot north and then clandestinely crossing into the internationally recognized south.

He says he fled his native Sierra Leone because he was persecuted for refusing to follow in his father’s footsteps and practice a kind of witchcraft.

“The head of this society, they want to train me, but I refused,” said Conteh.

He wants Cypriot authorities to swiftly process his asylum application and let him and others out of the razor-wire-encircled former military camp near the industrial western fringes of the capital Nicosia that he says feels like prison.

“We’re not prisoners. We’re asylum-seekers. Let them finish our process and then (free) us,” Conteh said. “That’s all we’re asking.”

The small eastern Mediterranean island republic is trying to cope with a huge backlog of asylum applications and despite government efforts to expedite the process, migrants say they feel literally left out in the cold.

Designed to accommodate 1,000 people at the most, Pournara is a “first instance” camp where in theory asylum-seekers are initially processed and released after three days. But it now houses 1,500 people, some of whom have been there for months.

Interior Minister Nicos Nouris said this week that Cyprus remains first among all other European Union member states in asylum applications relative to its population.

Last year, the country of around 1.1 million racked up 7,000 asylum applications — most of them from Syrians. Nouris said the government is doing its best to speed up the application process to let in those who qualify and to send back migrants whose application is turned down.

Like Conteh, most asylum-seekers enter the island from the Turkish Cypriot north and cross a porous, United Nations-controlled buffer zone into the south. Many hope to transfer to another EU country on the continent.

But asylum-seekers say the process is just taking too long amid a slow-down in application processing brought on by COVID-19 restrictions. They insist that they’ve tested negative numerous times for the coronavirus and want authorities to open the camp’s gates so they can seek better accommodation.

Hansoa Anyan from Cameroon says the camp’s overcrowded conditions, compounded by asylum processing delays, have caused friction between African and Syrian migrants.

He claimed that authorities are favoring Syrians, letting them out of the camp sooner and more frequently than Africans.

That frustration boiled over earlier this week when African migrants tried in protest to block Syrians from exiting.

Cypriot government officials deny there’s any discrimination regarding the timing of migrants’ release. Interior Ministry spokesman Loizos Michael said releases must be done gradually and in order of priority, starting with women, children and minors.

He said a daily stream of arrivals to the camp is making conditions tougher on those living there, but camp authorities are making “herculean efforts” to improve the situation.

But Corina Droushiotou who heads the Cyprus Refugee Council — a group that offers legal help to migrants with their asylum applications — said the migrants’ “de facto detention” at Pournara is “completely unnecessary” and is fanning anger among the migrants, some of whom have been living there for as many as five months.

Droushiotou said despite continued, island-wide COVID-19 restrictions including a night-time curfew, authorities could have eased tensions by allowing people who found a place to stay outside the camp to leave. Others could have been permitted to leave for short periods on condition they return before the start of curfew.

“The situation in Pournara signals a failure by the authorities to effectively address ongoing issues related to migrants and refugees,” said Droushiotou, adding that the government lacks a comprehensive migration and integration strategy.”

  14. the gateway pundit –Dominion Lawyer Says They ‘Warned’ OAN Not to Air Mike Lindell Doc

The lead attorney representing Dominion Voting Systems has come out swinging against OAN for airing Mike Lindell’s two-hour election fraud special — and claims that they “warned” the network not to air it.
Lindell’s film titled “Absolute Proof,” aired on the network in the form of a paid advertisement, with a disclaimer that it was not an OAN report.

The disclaimer said that Lindell “purchased the airtime for the broadcast of this program” and it “is not the product of OAN’s reporting.”

Dominion’s lead attorney Thomas Clare responded to the film on Friday, telling Law & Crime that the network is still a lawsuit target despite the disclaimer.

“Nice try by OAN, but it definitely does not relieve them of liability,” Clare told Law & Crime. “To the contrary, we warned them specifically and in writing that they would be broadcasting false and defamatory statements of fact if they broadcast the program, and they made the affirmative decision to disregarded that warning and broadcast it anyway.”

Clare pointed out that “other outlets have refused to air it,” implying that they contacted them.

“Other outlets have refused to host it,” Clare said. “Textbook actual malice.”

Charles Herring, the president of OAN, seemed unbothered and said that the program is “paid long-form ad air time.”

“We sold the air time at fair market value. The paid content is clearly differentiated from OAN content. OAN did not assist with the production,” Herring told Law & Crime.

Absolute Proof is currently available to watch on Lindell’s personal website.

  15. Iran Unveils Plant Producing Cutting-Edge Shoulder-Launched Assault Weapons (sputniknews, Feb 6, 2021)

“Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, has attended the opening of factories in Iran producing state-of-the-art shoulder-fired missiles and hybrid solid fuel for various types of rockets.

Speaking at an unveiling ceremony on Saturday, Baqeri praised the facility as “one of the most unique plants in the region producing short-range air defence missiles”.

He explained that the domestically-made portable rocket launchers designed for air defence-related missions, feature advanced laser technologies for navigation and control, among other things.

Baqeri also took part in another ceremony to open a hybrid solid propellant factory, which will supply fuel for various types of missiles used in ground warfare.

The general underscored the necessity of extending the range and speed of such missiles fired in ground combat, adding that the new solid fuel is expected to boost the power of tactical ground-to-ground, anti-tank, and air defence projectiles.

Last year, Iran rolled out a host of sophisticated ballistic and cruise missiles designed and manufactured in the Islamic Republic, including the Qasem Soleimani surface-to-surface missile.

A modest proposal for dealing with perpetrators of domestic extremism: Nuke ’em

Nicole Wallace (Image: YouTube screen grab)

MSNBC host Nicole Wallace introduced a panel segment on the ongoing threat from domestic extremists (read: Trump supporters) by recalling the manner in which the U.S. in the past dealt with foreign terrorists. In the video that follows, Wallace minces no words in pinpointing the source of the threat: “ideologies pushed by Donald Trump,” chief among them the belief that the election was fraudulent. “My question for you,” she goes on to add, addressing the panel, “is around incitement. We had a policy — and it was very controversial — [of] attacking terrorism at its root, of going after and killing [terrorists] … with a drone strike for the crime of inciting violence, inciting terrorism.”

  18. 23 State AG’s Back Right To Carry Lawsuit at SCOTUS
    7-9 minutes

    According to Firearm Chronicles

The Supreme Court won’t officially begin considering whether or not to accept New York State Rifle & Pistol Association vs. Cortlett, which challenges New York’s carry laws, for a few more weeks, but the amicus briefs in support of that lawsuit are already arriving on the Court’s doorstep and one of the latest legal briefs has the backing of nearly half of the Attorneys General in the United States.

In their brief, primarily written by the offices of Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Missouri AG Eric Schmitt, the AGs argue that the collective histories of the 23 responding states demonstrates that “subjective-issue handgun permit regimes, such as N.Y. Penal Law §400.00, are unconstitutional because they impose state-created, subjective conditions upon the exercise of a fundamental constitutional right.”

The Amici States emphasize two reasons that this case warrants the Court’s review. First, empirical data and the States’ experience with objective-issue regimes demonstrate that these subjective-issue regimes undermine the very public-safety purposes that they purport to advance. Citizens that receive permits are significantly more law-abiding than the public at large, and studies link objective-issue regimes with decreased murder rates and no rise in other violent crimes. Public safety is also increased at the individual level when citizens carry for selfdefense and respond to a criminal attack with a firearm; these defensive gun uses leave the intended victim unharmed more frequently than any other option and almost never require firing a shot.

One of the campaign promises Joe Biden made while running for office was that he would push through a new assault weapon ban. Considering the anti-gun jihad Biden has pushed in the past, this is one campaign promise we would do well to expect him to keep. Especially in light of the insane regulations proposed by Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee.

With Democrats controlling both the House and the Senate, there’s good reason to be concerned.

However, lawmakers in Montana have an idea that might help just a bit.

    According to Firearm Chronicles

If Kansas legislators have their way, the age for legal concealed carry will drop from 21 to 18.

While federal law prohibits 18 to 20 year olds from purchasing a handgun or handgun ammunition, it does not prohibit possession of a handgun, nor the carrying of one.

Under Kansas law, 18 year-olds are already allowed to open carry, but suddenly become felons if they put on a jacket or hoodie that covers their otherwise legally possessed and carried firearm.

  21. Fox News Cancels Lou Dobbs’ Weekday Business Show

LOS ANGELES—Fox Corp’s Fox Business Network has canceled “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” a weekday program hosted by the business journalist, the company said on Friday.

News of the cancellation came one day after Dobbs, 75, was named as a defendant in a defamation lawsuit filed by voting machine maker Smartmatic, which argued that three Fox hosts including Dobbs falsely accused the company of helping to rig the election against President Donald Trump.

Fox said the move to end Dobbs’ show had been in the works before the lawsuit as part of a revamp following the November 2020 presidential election in which Republican Trump was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden.

“As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business,” a Fox News spokesperson said. “This is part of those planned changes.”

The situation on the United States southern border is worsening, according to the chief deputy sheriff in Pinal County, Arizona.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Matthew Thomas told Townhall about what has been going on lately at the section of the border in his area, particularly in relation to the change of administration and its policies.

The sheriff showed reporters recent footprints of people who had illegally crossed the border into the United States. He said that they might have missed them by only a few hours.

Pinal County is about a 90-minute drive away from Mexico. Thomas said that the crisis at the border had begun to re-emerge at around the end of 2020 because the human and drug trafficking cartels expected Biden to have a “hands-off” attitude with regard to the border situation.

“When [Trump] took office, we saw that this area out here went completely dead. Nobody was moving, nobody was smuggling because [the cartels] knew that Trump was going to put all hands on deck out down here and that they would be intercepted so it came to a screeching halt,” Thomas said.

  24. House Impeachment Brief Against Trump Threatens Freedom of Speech of All Americans: Dershowitz

Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Thursday that the House impeachment brief against former President Donald Trump, which seeks to undermine Trump’s First Amendment-based argument in his defense, amounts to a dangerous broadside against the freedom of speech of all Americans.

Writing in an op-ed for The Hill, Dershowitz made a case against a key argument contained in the brief (pdf), namely that “the First Amendment does not apply at all to impeachment proceedings,” signals Congressional willingness to take aim at freedom of speech more broadly.

“The brief filed by the House managers advocating the conviction and disqualification of citizen Donald Trump contains a frontal attack on freedom of speech for all Americans,” Dershowitz wrote. “It states categorically that ‘the First Amendment does not apply at all to impeachment proceedings,’ despite the express language of that amendment prohibiting Congress from making any law, or presumably taking any other action, that abridges ‘the freedom of speech.’”

  25. Critical Race Theory is How Democrats Plan to Win Elections

And that’s where a new Republican civil rights movement must rise.

Liberal critics of critical race theory often act as if it’s a mysterious cult that emerged out of nowhere, while its conservative critics tie it to a history of academic Marxism. That’s true, but doesn’t explain why it has suddenly become so pervasively established in our culture.

Politics can be downstream of culture, but political culture is downstream of politics.

The resurrection of black nationalism and critical race theory are two faces of the same electoral strategy by a political movement now inextricably tied to black voters and white elites.

When Obama beat Hillary, he didn’t just transform America, he shed the last vestiges of the Democrat working class white vote and recreated the party as a coalition of urban elites, immigrants, and minority voters on the model of Tony Blair’s Labour Party in the UK. This “neo-liberalism”, as lefties like to call it, found its own Corbyn in the form of Bernie Sanders who put on a show of attacking the white urban elites who dominate a former working class party.

An official appointed to his post by then-President Donald Trump is suing the Biden administration over a termination threat he alleges is illegal.

Trump appointed Roger Severino, a former Heath and Human Services official, to the Administrative Conference of the United States in August 2020 and reappointed him last month.

Severino’s term was supposed to last for three years. But he alleges he received an email this week from Gautam Raghavan, deputy director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, asking him to resign. If not, Raghavan warned that he would be terminated.

“President Biden has no authority to terminate Mr. Severino’s appointment to the Council under 5 U.S.C. Section 595(b) or Article II of the Constitution. Mr. Severino seeks a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent this unlawful removal,” states the Feb. 3 lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Biden and Raghavan.

Donald Trump Jr.., the son of former President Donald Trump, said that efforts from the former president and his team to advance the interests of the United States are continuing. He characterized such efforts as “a movement of the people … against the elite.”

In a video on Trump Jr.’s social media accounts, headlined “here’s what comes next for our amazing movement,” he told supporters, “Just want to make sure everyone knows, guys, we are not done yet.”

Trump Jr. then shared a recent video clip that showed his father walking off the golf course while saying, “We haven’t finished yet.”

“He’s actually accurate,” Trump Jr. said of his father’s remarks. “The reality is this movement isn’t over. All of the blood, sweat, and tears that you guys have all put into this thing is very much still alive and well. You see that. I mean, this is really a movement of the people, a movement against the establishment, a movement against the elite.”

He continued: “A lot of those things have been brewing for quite some time. And that’s why for me I’m still standing engaged and we’re going to get in there and fight to elect people who really represent the people—people like you who have gone through so much.”

Border patrol agents arrested a total of 253 illegal aliens within an hour at the Texas border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Friday.

The arrests of two large groups of illegal aliens were made south of Mission, Texas, late on Thursday, the CBP announced in a news release. The groups, which had 166 and 87 people, consisted mainly of families and unaccompanied children. The group of 87 people had turned themselves in.

Other instances of illegal alien arrests were also noted by the CBP in its news release. The agency announced that border agents in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector received a tip about a possible stash house. The agents and local law enforcement on Wednesday arrested the 38 illegal aliens in the stash house, some of whom were trying to flee when the agents arrived at the scene.

RGV agents also arrested another eight people on Thursday afternoon. The eight were taken to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station to be processed, according to the CBP. Of the eight people, five were arrested after they were observed in a car leaving a suspected illegal alien stash house in Roma. RGV agents and police officers made the three other arrests when the occupants of the car said that there were more illegal aliens at the stash house.

Lisa Haba, a partner of Haba Law Firm based in Florida, told The Epoch Times that Twitter refused to take down sexual exploitation videos of her client even after her client showed Twitter the proof that he’s a minor, and that Twitter “certainly was profiting off the exploitation of [her client].”

The Haba Law Firm, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation Law Center, and the Matiasic Firm jointly filed a federal lawsuit against Twitter on Jan. 20, 2021.

Haba told the story of her client during an interview with Jan Jekielek, host of The Epoch Times’ American Thought Leaders program.

John Doe, Haba’s client, is currently a 17-year-old high school student. When he was 13 years old, he was targeted on Snapchat by online sex traffickers who impersonated a 16-year-old girl. He was manipulated into sending over his nude photos. After receiving them, the traffickers started to blackmail him. They threatened to send his nude photos to his parents, his pastor, and school leaders, and others.

Former Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY) must be certified as the winner of the 2020 New York congressional race for the 22nd district, a New York judge ruled Friday.

State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte ruled that New York must certify the results of the 22nd congressional district and declare Tenney as the winner. He also rejected an argument from former Congressman Anthony Brindisi, the Democratic incumbent who held the seat at the time of the election, that certification in the race could be delayed.

“You’ve asked me to stop public bodies from doing their job. That’s what you’ve asked me to do: Stop an election,” DelConte told an attorney for Brindisi, reports “And that’s a very, very high burden. You must show irreparable harm.”
