Reader’s Links for October 18, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. How could one describe an Imam, is he supposed to be a “holy” man? Does he live his every day life as a kind, gentle soul or is he an abrasive, demanding, vile person?

Imam Mazin Abdul-Adhim, the Canadian leader of Hibtz-ut-Tharir, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood hoods watched the Trump / Biden debate and expressed his opinion.

“ I watched parts of the debate between the orange circus clown and the senile child molester ( I couldn’t watch the whole thing because it was so unbearable to watch) and truly these two candidates are the embodiment of what the United States is and always has been.

A self absorbed narcissistic, pea-brained sociopathic womanizer who can’t handle anyone who holding a different opinion than him and will step on anyone who disagrees with him and stands in the way of his interests; and a semi-senile, child molesting two-faced hypocrite pretending to care about things he couldn’t possibly care less about.

This debate was basically the US manifested in human form.

These men are not some anomaly. They “are” the real, pure, and true face of the USA”.

  2. Attention Yucki:
Yesterday I read the article you linked to by Bari Weiss and this is almost exactly what I thought of it:

Hatred of Trump leads to liberal confusion about what to do: Bari Weiss gets it, and she also doesn’t
    Posted on October 17, 2020
I think Bari Weiss’ new Tablet piece is an illustration of the kind of confusion a great many liberal Democrats feel these days.

For example, Weiss puts her finger squarely on the fact that leftist Democrats such as AOC are either anti-Semitic themselves or fully at the service of other anti-Semitic leftists. But after discussing that for a while, she reverts to reflexive Trump-hate [my emphasis]:

…[M]any smart, well-intentioned people are confused. Or rather: Looking for someone to explain why an emerging movement that purports to advance the ideals they have always supported—fairness, justice, righting historical wrongs—feels like it is doing the opposite.

There is also the X factor of Donald Trump, which is impossible to overstate. Understandable hostility toward him has prevented many Jews from seeing the problem on the other side. To even look away from the obscenity in the White House for a moment strikes many, as they have told me, as irresponsible or beside the point.

I share with the majority of American Jews’ disgust toward Trump and Trumpism, which has normalized bigotry and cruelty in ways that have crippled American society. That truth doesn’t detract from another: There is another danger, this one from the left.

This way of thinking isn’t just an idiosyncrasy of Weiss’. It is typical of someone in the throes of a strong cognitive dissonance that he or she cannot easily resolve. She hates Trump, but hates the danger on the left as well. What to do?

In the second and third paragraphs of that excerpt, Weiss exhibits her Trump hatred. As is typical of the writing of Democrats, including others who think of themselves as old-style liberals, Weiss doesn’t seem to feel the need to give a single specific example of how Trump has demonstrated these terrible qualities she’s writing about. We are to take them on faith. Surely, we already know – the science, as they say, is settled. It’s a tautology that: (a) Trump is an “obscenity” (b) he is worthy of disgust (c) he has “normalized” bigotry and cruelty; and (d) that said normalization has “crippled” American society.

I think part of the reason Weiss says all of this is that she’s writing mostly for other Democrats who happen to be Jewish, although they’re not the only people who read Tablet. It’s telling that she says “I share” their supposed disgust for Trump; so she is saying “Hear me out, I’m one of you, not one of those dread Trump supporters.”

And it’s especially interesting to me that she says all of this despite the fact that the rest of her article is a lucid warning about the dangers of the far left and Critical Race Theory – which happens to actually be a huge and influential purveyor of “bigotry and cruelty” today, and to also be the force that has in fact “normalized” these things and is currently “crippling American society.”

Weiss follows up her warning about the danger of the left with this, which makes it clear she thinks the left is more dangerous than Trump, and that Biden would not be able to stop them:

And unlike Trump, this one has attained cultural dominance, capturing America’s elites and our most powerful institutions. In the event of a Biden victory, it is hard to imagine it meeting resistance.

So the only logical conclusion is to vote for Trump, right? After all, if the left is the bigger danger, and Biden won’t counter that danger, isn’t voting for Trump an obvious solution? But of course she can’t say that or even think it; she is focused on being able to fight “wokeness” from within the Democratic Party, and with Biden as president.

Good luck with that, Bari. You’ll need it.

Weiss follows that up with a recitation of liberal ideals. This is also interesting, because that list clearly tracks to the ideals of the right these days – only Weiss probably doesn’t know it.

She also (even after being booted off the NY Times because her type of liberalism no longer exists there) doesn’t seem to understand that she’s reciting ancient history, as far as the Democrats are concerned. It’s been a game of pretend for a long time, as the ostracism of Joe Lieberman many years ago should have made crystal clear:

[The ideals of America as a whole used to be] liberal in the most capacious and distinctly American sense of that word: the belief that everyone is equal because everyone is created in the image of God. The belief in the sacredness of the individual over the group or the tribe. The belief that the rule of law—and equality under that law—is the foundation of a free society. The belief that due process and the presumption of innocence are good and that mob violence is bad. The belief that pluralism is a source of our strength; that tolerance is a reason for pride; and that liberty of thought, faith, and speech are the bedrocks of democracy…

…[T]his liberalism relied on the view that the Enlightenment tools of reason and the scientific method might have been designed by dead white guys, but they belonged to everyone, and they were the best tools for human progress that have ever been devised.

    She adds:

American liberalism is under siege. There is a new ideology vying to replace it.

I hate to tell Weiss, but adhering to that sort of “American liberalism” today makes her what’s known as “a conservative.” And I regret to inform her that the “new ideology” isn’t “vying to replace” that sort of liberalism among the Democrats. It did replace it quite some time ago. And the left has taken over nearly every cultural institution, including the press (as she obviously experienced at the Times).

So it’s late and getting later.

If Weiss and other old-fashioned liberal Democrats could take over that party, I would applaud them. But I don’t think there’s any chance of it happening, unless they are trounced in this election – and I’d give it only a very slim chance even if that were to happen.

The rest of Weiss’ rather long piece is quite good. It mostly describes things with which readers of this blog are very familiar, and which I’ll just summarize by saying that she discusses the philosophy and goals of the anti-racism movement and Critical Race Thoery, and how that plays out in society and also within the non-Orthodox Jewish community.

It’s pretty apparent that Weiss wrote the piece to appeal to those Jewish Democrats who can hear her and who might not know what’s been going on with the left and what it signifies. And that’s fine. But by demonizing Trump (which perhaps she must do, not only because she believes what she says but also because she thinks the readers to whom she’s appealing believe it, too), she is cutting off the only avenue to buy time for any kind of reversal of the dangerous and alarming trends on the left that she sees and describes so well.

Weiss does not see her own blind spot. Voting for Trump is a bridge too far and she cannot get there – although some people (such as Dave Rubin, for example) have. But I submit that, for now, it’s the sole option open to her and to other “liberal” Democrats.

    And time’s a-wasting.

I want to be very clear: the phenomenon that Weiss describes is neither specific to Jews nor limited to them. It is rife among virtually all liberal Democrats today. Weiss is primarily addressing Jews in her article, but Jews share her sentiments only insofar as they are liberals. American Jews trend liberal, particularly secular and Reform Jews, but Orthodox Jews vote majority Republican, and the more extreme Orthodox groups are more likely to vote Republican. The recent voting behavior of Jews in presidential elections has been at a ratio of a bit more than 2:1, Democrat/Republican.

    • Not left, not conservative: A confused, habitual appeaser. She’s floundering. Now that she’s out of the cesspool, she might wash off the filth, find her depth elsewhere.

Like the establishment Jew-ish organizations, and the majority of Jews who ALWAYS vote Demonrat, she’s textbook David Mamet principle:

In order for left-wing ideologues to keep espousing their cognitively disconnected talking points they need to pretend they don’t know things.

Appeasement was never going to work for Bari. No matter how many times she pretended not to see grotesque antisemitism, it’s baked into the NYT. She knows about Duranty, she knows coverage of the Holocaust, she knows the demonization of Israel since 1967.

This is NOT a typical product of public school indoctrination. Bari had formal Jewish education and was raised in an observant family. Believe me, we learn history like a soldier learns to shoot and for the same reason. We’re connected to Israel, the bonds are both real and spiritual.

She rose within the NYT making dirty deals, engaged in ritual character assassination of the other side along with her colleagues. She’s still othering PT, as in the passage above.

It’s when they started calling HER what they call people like PT and his Deplorables, THAT’S when she hit the exit. The typical reaction on a Jewish blog:
~ Bari Weiss, Bari Weiss ?
      ~ Every morning we’d read you ?
~ The left’s not nice, to Bari Weiss ?
~ Now they no longer need you…

She can move on to a Haim Saban vehicle, or find a place in any number of Jew-ish, never-Trump orgs. They’re as short-sighted as Rabbi S. Wise in the 1930’s.
      When Jews Kept Quiet

    • Confronted by the very real prospect of the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn winning the 2019 election, the Jewish community of the UK somehow managed a collective howl: _NO_.

Astonishing, I’ve been watching for years, never thought they had the guts. Not all the Jews, but the establishment and a convincing majority.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis wrote a letter to The Times (!!). Paywall, but our Elder publishes a version.

UK Chief Rabbi’s appeal not to vote for Jeremy Corbyn
Another stunning letter by Anthony Julius:
An open letter to Sir Richard Evans: Labour’s anti-Semitism cannot be disregarded

In 1996, Anthony Julius and Richard Evans defended the author Deborah Lipstadt against libel accusations by the Holocaust denier David Irving. Here, Julius responds to Evans’s expression of support for the Labour leadership.

      • This is what brought Anthony Julius’ letter to my attention. It’s addressed to every decent voter who would ordinarily vote Labour:

The shame of Labour’s liberal supporters

The whole piece is great, here’s just the conclusion:

“History tells me to look glumly on the prospects that, for once, we might do right by Jews. We don’t always side with their persecutors but we almost never side with them when it matters. If the anti-Semites win on 12 December, their victory will belong to the nexus of complicity, from the people who know exactly what they are doing to those who one day will feign ignorance and deny the role they played.

“But these things they should know: Know that you were warned. You were warned and you turned away because the Tories are evil and Labour’s heart is in the right place. Know that Jews pleaded for your help. They pleaded for your help and you offered warm words then worked to put their tormentors in power.

“Know that you are culpable. You are culpable for what happens next, for every Nefesh B’Nefesh flight that takes off from Heathrow, for how Corbyn’s supporters take out their frustrations when his government begins to falter, for every British Jew who accepts that his countrymen have abandoned him and acquiesces quietly in his new status as civically less than others.

“Know that you will be remembered. You will be remembered and counted among the plentiful persecutors of the Jewish people and the even more plentiful bystanders. Your children will teach their children not to be like you. Know that while you may win in the moment you will lose in eternity. Know this: Am Yisrael chai. The Jewish people live and will go on living forever.”

  6. ‘Reclaimed ruins’: Azerbaijan shows off Karabakh conquests
They conquered withered vineyards and left behind burnt carcases of tanks to plant an Azerbaijani flag atop a barren hill on the edge of Nagorno-Karabakh — overlooking nothing at all.
Fighting erupted three weeks ago between Christian ethnic Armenians and Muslim Azerbaijan over a blood-soaked patch of mountains both call part of their ancestral lands.
The Azerbaijani side has spent days trumpeting military successes that give the air of an army on the move.
“If they don’t leave on their own, we’ll chase them out like dogs,” President Ilham Aliyev said on the eve of a new ceasefire on Sunday that both sides accused the other of immediately breaking.
On Twitter, Aliyev lists towns his forces have recaptured for the first time since a 1994 truce ended a war that killed 30,000 and left the region — to the horror of Azerbaijanis — in separatist hands.
One of these towns is Jabrayil.
Yet it is not just empty after being trapped in a no-mans land splitting Nagorno-Karabakh proper from territory under Azerbaijani control — there is simply no trace of it left.
The valley rolling down from the hill with the flag is covered with craggy bushes and a few low outlines of brick walls that have been blasted apart by rival forces for a generation.
    – ‘Fight to the last drop of blood’ –
Jabrayil’s lone standing structure is a cliff-like monument equipped with running faucets that the Soviets erected to encourage “friendship and inter-ethnic peace”.
A machine-gun toting soldier climbed this to unfurl an Azerbaijani flag before a clutch of reporters given access to a tightly controlled press tour of recaptured lands.
“Our enemy should know that Azerbaijani soldiers will fight to their last drop of blood to protect their motherland — and to sacrifice their lives if required,” Colonel Elshat Habilov declared before ordering the reporters back out.
“As we liberate our occupied lands one by one, we are gaining morale, drawing ever closer to a great victory.”
That Aliyev’s army wanted to showcase its hold on this uninhabited hill articulates Azerbaijan’s desire to put behind it the trauma of the 1988-1994 war.
It ended with Azerbaijan losing both Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas such as Jabrayil and the nearby district of Fuzuli running along the Iranian border.
These provide access points to the southern gates of Nagorno-Karabakh and its capital Stepanakert.

  7. Jon Voight says Trump ‘must win’ the election in order to save America from ‘evil’ Joe Biden and ‘deceitful’ leftists (dailymail, Oct 18, 2020)

“Jon Voight said in a video message on Friday that America must reelect President Donald Trump in order to save the nation from ‘evil’ Joe Biden.

The actor shared the two-minute clip on Twitter Friday with the caption: ‘Evil.’

In the video, Voight immediately slams the Democratic presidential nominee and the liberal left.

‘Biden is evil. Trump must win. He’s real. He will bring back the people’s trust,’ Voight began.

These leftists are not for the American people. It’s the biggest cover-up ever.’

Voight, who has been a longtime supporter of the president, went on to claim that Biden’s plan for America is similar to that of former president Barack Obama.

‘Biden is an extension of the policies of Obama that weakened America and we cannot let that happen again,’ Voight told his more than 366,000 followers.

‘The left are deceitful and have lied to the American people,’ the 81-year-old added.

  8. Ministers spent more than £400k on ‘woke’ anti-bias training (telegraph, Oct 17, 2020)

“Civil servants usually take compulsory courses every year that cover similar issues, but an extra £416,644 has been spent on further face-to-face courses in the last two financial years.

The Department for Education allocated £92,500 to such lectures in the 2018-19 year, while the Department for Work and Pensions has paid £112,500 to the professional services firm KPMG for 720 staff to be trained.

The Home Office spent £54,080 on training 164 staff as part of two courses run by Civil Service Learning entitled ‘Unconscious Bias’ and ‘Unconscious Bias for Senior Civil Servants’, a Freedom of Information request by the TaxPayers’ Alliance disclosed.

Equality firm Challenge Consultancy received £38,000 from the Ministry of Justice for two of its advocacy courses, which were delivered as training sessions that spanned up to two days.

The Departments of Health, Business, Transport, and Digital, Culture Media and Sport spent a further combined total of £119,564.

A presentation, previously used by Challenge in its workshops, condemned the portrayal of ‘Peter Pan’ character Captain Hook, who has a severed hand, as ‘sinister’ in its ‘messages on disability’.

Another slide referred to Arlene Phillips’ departure from Strictly Come Dancing in 2009 at the age of 66 as sending damaging ‘messages on age’. It is unclear if these slides were used in the training for MPs or civil servants.

Challenge uses the slogan “if you have a brain, you have a bias” in its resources, and founder Femi Otitoju said in a 2019 interview she “only worked in order to be an activist”.

The company has previously used a blue puppet – ‘UB’, short for ‘unconscious bias’, during workshops.

One blog post published by KPMG, meanwhile, says: “We should never forget that we all have biases.”

Korn Ferry Hay, which advised Department of Health staff, has said that “reducing bias and barriers to development significantly expands any employee’s productivity”.

Training across Government departments was intensified after the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests, it is understood, with top Cabinet ministers as well as civil servants attending recent events.

The spending has caused discontent among Conservative backbenchers with one claiming that there was no scientific basis for the activities.

“Ministers will be furious about how much officials are wasting on courses which the scientific evidence suggests do not work and may be harmful,” he said.

“The whole agenda behind these courses is highly divisive and sets people against each other rather than bringing people together. They are a terrible waste of poorer taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”

A second Tory MP, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he had chosen not to go to any of the classes on offer.

“I haven’t been to any and I am probably not going to be attending,” he said. The MP went on to claim the “woke training” was “a little bit stupid”.

James Roberts, political director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers’ money should be focused on high quality services, not wasted on woke causes.

“There are extensive laws in place to prevent discrimination in the workplace, and mega training programmes like this should not be required.

“When ministers start the hard work of getting the public finances under control, they should start with stripping back on these controversial courses.”

The figures come weeks after this newspaper revealed that parliamentary staff are being urged to “profess their privilege” and upload drawings to an online platform.

Unconscious bias training by companies including Challenge has been rolled out across the BAFTAs, the BBC, and Cambridge and Dundee university departments, in addition to corporate conferences, in recent years.

Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, passed an unconscious bias course at the end of September, according to his spokesman.

The Telegraph contacted Challenge Consultancy for comment.”

  12. Protesters Demand Migrant Amnesty in Paris Day After Migrant Terror Attack (breitbart, Oct 18, 2020)

“Thousands of pro-migration protesters took to the streets of Paris, demanding that the French government give amnesty to the “undocumented” migrant population just one day after a Chechen migrant is believed to have beheaded a teacher in Paris.

On Saturday, several thousand protesters were seen marching in the French capital — defying the country’s China virus lockdown measures — as a part of the ‘March of Solidarity’ for migrants “without papers” — a left-wing euphemism for illegal aliens.

The organisers of the protest, which included the Federation of Associations of Solidarity with All Immigrants (FASTI), also called on the government to close migrant detention centres and provide “housing for all”, according to Le Figaro.

“I’m 42-years-old, I can’t eat enough every day because I can’t work. Things must change, the government must listen to us,” a Senegalese illegal migrant told the Fench newspaper.

“I work from time to time in restaurants, construction, cleaning, under aliases (with someone else’s papers),” he admitted, seemingly unafraid of legal repercussions.

“But we are really tired, because even during the confinement, who worked? It’s us. And in addition, we are poorly paid,” claimed another illegal migrant.

European Parliament member Leïla Chaibi, of the democratic socialist La France Insoumise party, joined the protest, writing on social media: “This afternoon, I was alongside the undocumented migrants, who marched in numbers in the streets of Paris for equality and dignity.”

Video footage shared on social media showed thousands of closely packed demonstrators marching through the streets of Paris, and HuffPost France reporter Pierre Tremblay described the scenes as “excited”.

“Thousands of people have come to Paris to support this movement of undocumented migrants for their regularization,” Tremblay reported.

“Several of them also worked on the front line during the [coronavirus],” he claimed.

In September the French government pledged to speed up the pace of naturalisation for migrants in France who took action “on the front line” of the China virus pandemic.

The protest in Paris took place one day after a teacher was beheaded by, according to local reports, a Chechen migrant.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Friday that the beheading was “an Islamist terrorist attack” perpetrated against an educator “teaching his students about the freedom of expression”…”

  14. Pakistan military: Soldier killed by Baluchistan militants (abcnews, Oct 18, 2020)

“Militants killed a Pakistani paramilitary soldier and wounded three others in an ambush on a security patrol in southwestern Baluchistan province, the country’s military said Sunday.

The Frontier Corps patrol came under gunfire in the district of Turbat Saturday afternoon, triggering a shootout between the attackers and paramilitary troops.

The attack came two days after militants had ambushed a convoy of state-owned oil and gas company workers, escorted by paramilitary troops, on a coastal highway near the town of Ormara.

Seven employees, who were working as security, for Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company were killed, along with eight members of Pakistan’s Frontier Corps, which was providing security for the convoy.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Saturday’s ambush on the Frontier Corps. Similar attacks in the past, including Thursday’s, have been carried out by Baluch separatist groups.

By Daily Caller News Foundation October 18, 2020

Emails from a computer allegedly owned by Hunter Biden could be “absolutely verified beyond a shadow of a doubt” if the metadata for the files were made available to review, a cybersecurity expert told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani reportedly provided the New York Post with a copy of the hard drive the emails originated from. But he has refused to release metadata information for messages the Post described as “smoking-gun” evidence that Hunter Biden introduced a Burisma executive to his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, in 2015.

Giuliani told Daily Caller White House correspondent Christian Datoc during an exclusive interview Thursday that questions surrounding the metadata for the files he provided to the Post were “pettifogging nonsense” pushed by the “liberal press.”

The spike, which hit a high of 49%, was in reaction to radical changes enacted by the city’s mayor, Bill de Blasio, that included a massive $1 billion cut to the force’s $6 billion budget and elimination of New York’s plainclothes anti-crime unit.

  19. Biden’s ABC town hall questioners include former Obama speechwriter, wife of former Pennsylvania Dem candidate
Former Obama-Biden administration speechwriter among questioners at ABC town hall

Two of the questioners at the ABC town hall featuring Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Thursday had ties to high-profile Democrats, including one questioner who previously worked as a speechwriter in the Obama administration.

The queries came as President Trump, hundreds of miles away, was engaging in his own parallel town hall being aired on NBC. The ABC town hall was hosted by George Stephanopoulos, who was a communications director for the Bill Clinton White House and who has been a political journalist since 2002.

One of the questioners at the ABC-hosted event was Nathan Osburn, a former speechwriter for the Obama White House. Osburn specifically worked for the Office of Public Affairs at the Commerce Department under the Obama-Biden administration and at the Small Business Administration.

  20. Iran ready to weaponise nuclear programme at secret site developed BEFORE Trump quit deal (express, Oct 18, 2020)

“IRAN has built a secret site in which to weaponise its nuclear programme. The revelation puts further pressure on European states – including Britain – to reconsider their support of the failed nuclear deal.

Located in a military base in Sorkheh-Hessar, east of Tehran, the site is said to be used for establishing the yield of nuclear detonations. Intelligence shown to Iranian opposition group the National Council of Resistance of Iran reveals that construction of the site began in 2012, three years before the US, under President Obama, signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran, ,Britain,, Germany, France and Russia – and was not disclosed.

In 2017, the year before President Trump abandoned the nuclear deal, the regime moved in geophysics experts belonging to Iran’s Chamran Group, led by Dr. Mohammad Javad Zaker, to expand its underground nuclear testing capabilities.

Satellite imagery shows a tunnel, and sources have confirmed the presence of both seismometer devices and Ground Penetrating Radar.

Iran’s Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND) is said to have imported key equipment by using proxy nations to sideline sanctions.

The NCRI also revealed that another site – already on an IAEA watchlist – is now under the control of the regime’s fanatical Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Marivan near Abadeh, where underground detonations take place, is now under of IRGC project engineer Hashemi Tabar, who regularly leads secret projects. The Revolutionary guard also owns stone mines in the area, which is cordoned off to the public.

“It is clear that the SPND, which pursues the building of nuclear weapons with Iran’s Ministry of Defence, is continuing its activities,” said Soona Samsami of the NCRI.

“The appeasement policy by the Western countries allowed the regime to accelerate its drive to acquire nuclear weapons, even while they were negotiating with Europe.

“Hassan Rouhani, the current President, was the chief nuclear negotiator at the time and acknowledged later that he deceived Europeans..

“As the popular dissent is growing in Iran, demonstrated clearly during the nationwide uprising in November 2019, and with the change of balance of power in the region to the mullahs’ detriment, the mullahs need to obtain the bomb more than ever.”

Under the terms of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal, the US, Britain, Germany, France, Russia and China agreed to unfreeze $150bn (£116bn at today’s exchange rate) in assets and give Iran $1.7bn in cash in return for promises that it would restrain its nuclear programme for ten years.

That “sunset clause” was cited by President Trump as one of the deal’s main flaws when he withdrew US support.

Others have criticised the fact that it allowed Iran to continue to sponsor regional terror groups such as a Hezbollah and Hamas in Lebanon and Syria as it continues to forge its so-called “Shia crescent” through the Middle East,

The remaining signatories recently recommitted to the deal, despite Iran declaring that it was “broken”.

Last night former IAEA inspector Dr Olli Heinonen, now with the Stimson Cenyte think tank, said many key figures which led Iran’s nuclear programme in 2003 were still in place.

“The presence of geophysics experts indicates that this site is being used to determine yield,” he said.

“The IAEA was aware of a fledgling nuclear weapons programme in Iran, but did not investigate it. They found uranium particles, were not satisfied with Iran’s responses, but this remains unexplained. But there was a great deal of political pressure and the JCPOA was signed.

“If you look at what happened in South Africa, South Korea and Libya, the IAEA continued to investigate until it assured itself that any nuclear weapons related activity had been dismantled. It had a full understanding and there were no loose ends about nuclear materials. I investigated these.

“But this has not been the case with Iran.

“The IAEA was told that monitoring would address this. The problem is that, if the international community not have a full understanding of the situation in the ground, how would monitoring help? This is what’s troubling.””

  24. US Plot for Economic Collapse of Iran Foiled: President

“The Iranian administration has thwarted the US’ plot to cause economic collapse in Iran despite the currency crunch and intensified sanctions over the past two and a half years, President Hassan Rouhani said.

In comments at a meeting of the government’s economic coordination headquarters on Sunday, Rouhani said his administration’s good planning has prevented the US from achieving the ominous objective of economic collapse of Iran.

Although the inhuman and illegal American sanctions have reduced Iran’s currency incomes over the past two and a half years, the administration has successfully fought off the American economic war, he said.

The president also stressed the need for political calm and solidarity at home, saying the enemies have capitalized on rift and disagreement inside Iran as a backing for the severe economic war.

He called on all Iranian officials to exercise political rationality to avoid disputes.

In remarks two years ago, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned of a massive propaganda campaign mounted by the spy agencies of the US and Israel, coupled with an all-out economic war on the Islamic Republic, and urged stronger national unity in the face of enemy plots.

“Today, the Islamic Establishment is faced with an all-out economic war, which is being controlled from a war room carefully and vigorously; but besides this war, a major media and propaganda war is also underway which is generally neglected,” the Leader warned.”

  25. Jordanian Police Arrest 97 Fugitives, Racketeering Suspects

“A Jordanian security source said 97 fugitives and suspected racketeers were arrested on Saturday by a police commando force.

The raid came after the Public Security Department (PSD) had launched a crackdown on “wanted fugitives, recidivists, racketeers and those who intimidate citizens,” the source added.

A PSD spokesman said among those apprehended five are placed on a most-wanted list.

He also stressed that the clampdown will continue across the Kingdom “until all wanted and suspected persons are nabbed.”

Last week, a 16-year-old’s hands were chopped off and his eyes gouged out by a gang of men in Jordan’s Zarqa city, causing shock and widespread anger in the country.

The special police taskforce said it has arrested 10 suspects involved in the crime.

For his part, the prosecutor of the Criminal Court ensured that the perpetrators will receive the maximum punishment enshrined in the law.”

  26. Arab Coalition: Houthi Ballistic Missile Falls in Yemen’s Saada

“The Saudi-led Arab coalition said on Sunday that the Houthi militias launched a ballistic missile from Sanaa which shortly fell in Yemen’s Saada governorate.

“The terrorist, Iran-backed, Houthi militia launched a ballistic missile from Sanaa on Sunday. The missile fell short (159) km after launch in Yemeni soil in Saada governorate,” read a statement by the Coalition’s Spokesman colonel Turki Al-Maliki.

The Houthi militia continues its flagrant violations of the International Humanitarian Law by launching ballistic missiles that fall indiscriminately on civilians and population centers, threatening the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians.

Maliki stressed that the Coalition will continue to undertake all deterrent, rigorous measures to protect civilians in Yemen, and safeguard regional and international security.”
