Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Reminds me of the case of the black man in Rhodesia who trained his dog to act as Mugabe in his street performances. He became popular and was promptly jailed for his mockery of Mugabe.
      Maybe his dog met a grimmer fate?
      When I was in South Africa in the 90’s everyone was calling the ANC “communists”, “terrorists” and “kaffirs”, now they are too afraid to, that’s what 20 years of state oppression does.

    This poor woman is being castigated in the media, however the key the key part of this is in the facebook post that the man made.

    She explains why she is letting the dog run loose, but then he says “Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it.”

    She said “What’s that?”

    He calls the dog over with treats.

    She panics at what is a threat. It is a lone woman who tried to explain her rule breaking, but he threatens her. She was with her rights to panic and if our media cannot get that then they are real scum bags.

    “In a process euphemistically called “cultural rehabilitation”, migrant-background youths are sent to their ancestral countries to avoid being “Westernised”. Reports of torture and ideological brainwashing of the Islamist kind have emerged.

    A 125-page report called “Not Just a Holiday” penned by a joint expert panel on behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Children and Family Affairs has highlighted the role of authorities in the process of young people from migrant families being sent abroad, often against their will.

    The expert group voiced criticism of how the authorities handle the problem. According to the report, the Norwegian authorities have in several cases actively assisted families in sending children to so-called Quran schools abroad, whose brutal pedagogical methods and reported abuse previously triggered national concerns and caught the attention of Prime Minister Erna Solberg, who called this practice illegal. Apart from failing to prevent this situation, the child welfare service even paid for the tickets in some cases, the report said.

    “The job done is not good enough when it comes to preventing the children from being sent out of the country” researcher Anja Bredal of the think tank Nova told national broadcaster NRK. “We have seen that the child welfare service in some cases supported families who would send their children to Quran schools in Somalia. We are very critical of this. We recommend a strengthened effort, which requires honing the skills in child abduction cases”, Bredal added.

    The expert panel interviewed young people who have been sent abroad against their will and obtained information from professionals, family members, and various services. Among other things, the report concluded that almost half of the victims later suffer psychological problems.

    The report also stressed “considerable confusion and obscurity” in this area, which makes it difficult for the authorities to distinguish between legal and legitimate trips abroad and those with unlawful purposes.

    According to the expert panel, children and young people need to get educated about their rights and possibly even a special spokesperson dealing with this issue. Bredal stressed that it was urgent to increase the competence of educational authorities, child welfare services, and the police. Today’s message, “don’t travel”, is of little relevance for young people who don’t have a voice, she ventured.

    Education and Integration Minister Guri Melby pledged a new action plan to cope with the problem.

    “We haven’t been good enough. The main rule for this not to happen is for families to be well integrated in Norway, well acquainted with Norwegian values and that the children to be familiar with their rights”, Melby said.

    The report was ordered following a disclosure of Norwegian migrant-background youths being sent to Quran schools in Somalia and Kenya to prevent them from becoming “Norwegianised”. In addition to harsh conditions and torture, the victims also complained of being brainwashed in Islamist doctrines and hatred for the West. A similar phenomenon has been noticed in neighbouring Sweden as well, which also has a substantial Somali community.

    According to a January report commissioned by the Ministry of Education, at least 400 children and young people living in Norway were sent abroad against their will between 2016 and 2018 and subjected to what is euphemistically called “cultural rehabilitation”.”

    “Two illegal migrants from Afghanistan who hid in a truck full of watermelons imported from Greece were detained at the Polish-Slovak border, according to Polish border police.

    According to police, the two illegal migrants had reportedly paid €4,000 each for the trip.

    They were stopped by Poland’s border guards and are currently being detained at a center for illegal aliens. The court in the town of Sanok has since ordered them to be held for three months in Bia?ystok in the east of Poland.

    The migrants were first discovered after the Polish driver of the truck had heard some suspicious noises coming from the rear and informed the officers about them.

    The officers had been in the area patrolling the border as a result of the coronavirus-related closures. Upon searching the truck, they soon uncovered two Afghani citizens, with the men aged 18 and 41.

    Both migrants were well-prepared for the journey with warm clothes, food and several hundred euros each in their pockets. The police said they were in good health.

    According major El?bieta Pikor, the officer of the Polish Border Guard who briefed journalists, the migrants were both convinced that they had arrived in Germany when they were detained. Instead, they were in Poland, which has harsher asylum rules than Germany’s.

    One of the men had already filed for refugee status in Greece.

    The briefing officer stated that since the beginning of 2020, border security has stopped 40 illegal migrants who had entered Poland’s borders with Ukraine and Slovakia.

    Most of the detained migrants were intending to use Poland as a place of transit on the way to Western Europe.

    Recently, Polish border police have also arrested 4 ISIS members from Tajikistan at the Polish border who were planning attacks in Western Europe.”

  26. President Trump: U.S. will react ‘very strongly’ if China imposes national security legislation on Hong Kong

    President Trump recently sent a stark warning to Beijing. His comments came as China continues to mull a new law that could affect Hong Kong’s autonomy.

    The country’s set to release more details on that legislation on Friday. President Trump said he’ll wait to learn more, but suggested a swift response by the U.S. if it were to pass.

    “I don’t know what it is because nobody knows yet,” he stated. “If it happens, we’ll address that issue very strongly.”

    According to White House officials, if China does approve that law then U.S. sanctions are likely to follow.

    “If China goes through and imposes this law, which I think would be a big mistake, I think it’s going to be very difficult for the people of Hong Kong,” said Robert O’Brien, U.S. National Security Adviser. “Secretary (Mike) Pompeo will likely be unable to certify that Hong Kong maintains a high degree of autonomy and if that happens there will be sanctions that will be imposed on Hong Kong and China.”

    Last year, President Trump approved the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act. If Beijing does pass this new legislation, it would be in violation of that act.

    NEW DELHI/SRINAGAR (Reuters) – A Himalayan border standoff between old foes India and China was triggered by India’s construction of roads and air strips in the region as it competes with China’s spreading Belt and Road initiative, Indian observers said on Tuesday.

    Soldiers from both sides have been camped out in the Galwan Valley in the high-altitude Ladakh region, accusing each other of trespassing over the disputed border, the trigger of a brief but bloody war in 1962.

    About 80 to 100 tents have sprung up on the Chinese side and about 60 on the Indian side where soldiers are billeted, Indian officials briefed on the matter in New Delhi and in Ladakh’s capital, Leh, said.

    Both were digging defences and Chinese trucks have been moving equipment into the area, the officials said, raising concerns of a long faceoff.

  28. U.S. military says Russia deployed fighter jets to Libya

    TUNIS (Reuters) – The U.S. military said on Tuesday that Russia has deployed fighter aircraft to Libya to support Russian mercenaries fighting for eastern forces, adding to concerns of a new escalation in the conflict.

    “Russian military aircraft are likely to provide close air support and offensive fire,” the United States Africa command said in a statement it posted on its website and on Twitter.

    Libya’s civil war has drawn in regional and global powers with what the United Nations has called a huge influx of weapons and fighters in violation of an arms embargo.

      The World Health Organization has suspended testing the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients due to safety concerns.

      Hydroxychloroquine has been touted by U.S. President Donald Trump and others as a possible treatment for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

      The U.S. President has said he was taking the drug to help prevent infection.

      The WHO has previously recommended against using hydroxychloroquine to treat or prevent coronavirus infections, except as part of clinical trials.

      Speaking alongside Tedros, Mike Ryan, head of the WHO emergency program, said that countries had to work to ensure there was no immediate second peak of the virus, saying that countries would have to put in place comprehensive strategies to ensure a downward trajectory of cases of COVID-19.

    The government said it planned to release about 900 Taliban prisoners today across Afghanistan, approximately 600 of them from the notorious Bagram jail near Kabul, as part of its pledge to free up to 2,000 insurgent prisoners in response to the ceasefire offer.

    A broad inquiry is needed over the safety and ethics of medical treatment given to children wishing to change their gender, according to Sky News host Alan Jones.

    Last month, Health Minister Greg Hunt refused to initiate a national inquiry into affirmative treatment for children at gender clinics. The Health Minister ruled out the inquiry due to concerns about the harm it may cause to vulnerable trans youth.

    There is growing anxiety among some medical officials that gender clinics tend to push a child’s preferred gender without further investigation into pre-existing mental health conditions, a methodology called the ‘affirmative model’.

    Mr Jones said the “identity politics lobby has dominated this gender debate”, which is to the detriment of children and their parents.

    “Between 2014 and 2018, 2,414 Australian children, some as young as 9, were referred for gender reassignment treatment,” Mr Jones said.

    “Of course, for those who, through consultation with parents and appropriate doctors, have a provable need for “transition”, I am sure we would support meeting that need. These are very difficult circumstances.”

    “This critical and sensitive issue requires whole of society consideration. Schools cannot be left on their own. Indeed, I would argue it is not the province of the classroom.”

    “The figures are such that a broad inquiry is urgently needed.”

    “The Afghan government released hundreds of Taliban prisoners Tuesday, its single largest prisoner release since the U.S. and the Taliban signed a peace deal earlier this year that spells out an exchange of detainees between the warring sides.

    The government announced it would release 900 Taliban prisoners as a three-day cease-fire with the insurgents draws to an end. The Taliban had called for the truce during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr that marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

    There were expectations that the prisoner release could lead to new reductions in violence, and Taliban officials were considering an extension of the cease-fire, a senior Taliban figure confirmed to The Associated Press.

    “If these developments, like the announcement of prisoner releases, continues, it is possible to move forward with decisions like extending the brief cease-fire and to move in a positive direction with some minor issues,” the Taliban official said.

    The prisoners were being released from Bagram prison, where the U.S. still maintains a major military base north of Kabul, and from Pul-e-Charkhi prison on the eastern edge of the Afghan capital.

    By late afternoon, the AP witnessed scores of men pouring out of the Bagram compound, presumably released prisoners. It wasn’t immediately possible to verify their numbers or whether they were all Taliban members. They were transported on six buses parked outside the prison.

    An official at Bagram said 525 men were to be released but he spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the media.

    No number was given for how many prisoners would be released from Pul-e-Charkhi.

    In a tweet late Tuesday, Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen in Doha said the insurgent group planned to release “a remarkable number” of government prisoners. He called the Afghan government’s release of 900 “good progress.”

    The prisoner release is part of the U.S. deal with the Taliban, signed on Feb. 29, to allow for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan, bringing to an end the country’s protracted war and America’s longest military involvement.

    When the deal was signed, it was touted as Afghanistan’s best chance for peace after decades of war. But political feuding in Kabul and delays in prisoner exchanges have slowed the deal’s progress toward intra-Afghan negotiations, considered the second and most critical phase of the accord.

    Under the deal, Kabul is to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners while the insurgents are to free 1,000 captives, mostly government officials and Afghan forces, before intra-Afghan negotiations can begin.

    Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had welcomed the Taliban cease-fire announcement during the Muslim holiday.

    Javid Faisal, a national security spokesman in Kabul, urged the Taliban to extend the cease-fire and said the government would release 900 prisoners Tuesday. That would bring to 2,000 the number of Taliban prisoners released so far under the U.S.-Taliban deal. The Taliban say they have released 240 captives.

    However, the Taliban have yet to confirm whether those released so far by the government were among the 5,000 names the insurgents had given U.S. negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad, the architect of the Feb. 29 deal.

    A second Taliban official told the AP that those released so far were on the Taliban list, including the uncle of Taliban chief Hibatullah Akhundzada. Key in deciding which names would appear on the list was Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, a senior figure who had recently recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.

    Turabi was the much feared vice and virtue minister during the Taliban rule, known for beating men who were found listening to music or not attending mosque. He once slapped a Taliban commander who spoke with a woman journalist.

    Both Taliban officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

    Many Afghans have expressed frustration at the slow and often stalled peace process. Many have known only conflict in their homeland for the past several decades.

    “If both sides stop this war and sit at the negotiating table … maybe my youngest children will experience a good life, which we never experienced,” said Sayed Agha, a truck driver from eastern Logar province.

    Agha, 45, was wounded in April, caught in cross-fire during a battle between the Taliban and Afghan soldiers.

    “I have spent my whole life in war,” he said.”

  36. ‘Blatant act of censorship’: Michael Moore green energy doc taken off YouTube after copyright claim by environmentalist opponent

    An environmentalist documentary produced by Oscar-winning director Michael Moore has been removed from YouTube. The filmmakers said that they have angered “green capitalists” who are in bed with Wall Street.

    The film ‘Planet of the Humans,’ produced by Michael Moore and directed by Jeff Gibbs, was pulled from YouTube due to a copyright claim after it had garnered more than 8.3 million views since being released online last month. The copyright claim in question concerned a four-second clip showing the mining of rare earth materials, which are used in the manufacture of wind turbines.

    In a statement to the Deadline news website, Gibbs called the removal of the film “a blatant act of censorship by political critics,” and claimed that he had included the disputed footage under “fair use.”

    It is a misuse of copyright law to shut down a film that has opened a serious conversation about how parts of the environmental movement have gotten into bed with Wall Street and so-called ‘green capitalists.’

    Gibbs said that he is working with YouTube to resolve the issue and get the film back up as soon as possible.[…]

    “Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has issued an executive order to all government structures to implement the law passed last week on launching a comprehensive retaliation against any of Israeli’s action that Tehran might consider hostile to itself or the Palestinian Authority, the IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

    Hassan Rouhani ordered all ministries, the Supreme National Security Council and the Judiciary to each work out measures within their respective frameworks in response to Israel’s actions that are believed to be a threat to international and regional peace and security, especially with regard to Palestine.

    Such measures may reportedly include producing movies that reveal the Israeli war crimes and atrocities committed during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

    There is a total of 16 articles in the anti-Israeli bill, which was unanimously adopted by 43 votes in the Iranian parliament on 12 May. It was then approved by the country’s Guardian Council and, until now, only lacked the president’s green light before becoming a law.

    The statement comes after Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Israel will face more challenges in the future because of pressure from groups and movements established in the neighbouring Arab countries that are opposed to the Jewish state…”

    “A TEENAGE boy has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in South London, police have said.

    The victim was found in Albany Road near Burgess Park in Southwark shortly after 6.30pm.

    His condition is now known at this stage.

    Officers erected a cordon at the scene and at least two ambulances attended.

    Footage posted on social media show an air ambulance landing in a green area, believed to be the nearby Burgess Park.

    A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 18:40hrs on Tuesday, 26 May to reports of a male found suffering a stab wound in Albany Road, SE5.

    “Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended the scene. The male – believed aged in his mid-teens – was taken to hospital for treatment; condition awaits.

    Larry Sanger, the co-founder of Wikipedia, published a blog post this month declaring that the online encyclopedia’s “neutral point of view” policy is “dead” due to the rampant left-wing bias of the site. Noting the article on President Donald Trump, Sanger contrasted its extensive coverage of presidential scandals with the largely scandal-free article on former President Barack Obama.

    Sanger also criticized Wikipedia’s coverage of religion and other controversial topics. After Fox News reported on his blog post, many Wikipedians ignored the bias Sanger identified and instead responded by attacking the conservative outlet as well as Sanger.

    MADRID — The Spanish government has declared 10 days of mourning starting Wednesday for the nearly 27,000 people who have died with the novel coronavirus in Spain, the longest official mourning period in the country’s 4-decade-old democracy.

    Flags will be hoisted to half-staff in more than 14,000 public buildings across the nation and on Spanish naval vessels until June 5, under the declaration made Tuesday. King Felipe VI, as Spain’s head of state, will preside over a solemn memorial ceremony once the country emerges from the lockdown imposed 2 1/2 months ago, the government said.

    The dead are “men and women whose lives have been suddenly cut short, leaving friends and family in great pain, both from the sudden loss and from the difficult circumstances in which it has occurred,” government spokeswoman María Jesús Montero said following the Cabinet meeting where the grieving period was approved.

    Opposition parties had criticized Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s left-wing coalition government for not paying tribute to the virus pandemic’s victims as Spain’s death toll – the world’s fifth-highest after the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and France – became a point of political debate.

    Arguing that some unconfirmed virus cases had been erroneously counted, Spanish health authorities reduced the country’s official mortality figure by 1,918.

    Montero said that 80% of Spain’s virus-related deaths were people age 70 or older, “those who helped build our country as we recognize it today, and ultimately laid the foundations of our democracy.”

    “They might not accompany us physically, but they will remain forever in our memory,” she said.

    Flags at half-staff and other expressions of grief have become common around the world during the pandemic.

    In Italy, the military’s aerobatic team honored the dead over the past few days, saluting cities such as Codogno, Milan and Turin with flybys. Nightly or weekly applause and singing to honor medical personnel working to save lives has been the most clear expression of collective unity amid personal losses and the isolation of lockdowns.

    No other country so far has announced an observance on the scale of Spain’s 10-day mourning period, an event unprecedented since the country reinstated democratic rule in 1978. Three years earlier, when dictator Gen. Francisco Franco died, a 30-day mandatory mourning period was declared. Three days of mourning were observed in March 2004 for nearly 200 victims of Al-Qaeda-inspired attacks on Madrid commuter trains.

    COVID-19 deaths have become a touchy issue for Sánchez’s government since it imposed a strict lockdown on March 14 with the aim of slowing the spread of the virus. In the ensuing 10 weeks, the death toll climbed from 120 to 26,800, and confirmed infections in Spain grew from 4,200 to over 230,000.

    Spanish politicians across the political spectrum, left and right, have raced to capitalize on the collective loss.

    National flags with a black-ribbon have appeared on the balconies of apartment buildings and in the hands of right-wing protesters, a symbol of the country’s loss and of anger over the government’s handling of the pandemic.

    Authorities in the hard-hit Madrid, a stronghold of the conservative opposition, put gigantic displays of black ribbons at some of the Spanish capital’s main landmarks. As a permanent tribute to COVID-19 victims, local officials installed a cauldron with a gas-powered flame in front of City Hall. A plaque, surrounded by floral bouquets, reads, “Your flame will never go out in our heart.”

    In recent weeks, strict home-confinement orders and bans on public activity have eased across the country.

    “They should have declared the mourning days ago,” Madrid resident Conchita Hernández, 77, said. Her husband, Agustín Álvarez, 77, compared the Spanish capital’s nearly 9,000 virus-related deaths to the casualties during times of war.

    “The mourning would have made more sense when we were all homebound, but I still think it makes a lot of sense,” Álvarez said.
