Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    If the headline sounds like so much hyperbole, you haven’t been paying attention. In July, Rep. Ilhan Omar publicly declared that the “real terrorist threat” to the U.S. is not Islamofascists but white people. That same claim is being made now by a New York City congressional candidate endorsed by the same far-left group that backed Omar and her Squad-mate, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. His name is Jamaal Bowman, and he has claimed that “the biggest issue in our country is white male domestic terrorism.”

    • Yes. It’s our school education system and school student unions that are the basic culprits. If it were up to me, I’d wipe out all student unions from the school system. If they want a union, let them organize elsewhere. A curriculum reform is a must and Social Justice studies wiped out also. NO safe spaces either.

    “A National Health Service (NHS) trust has announced that it will withdraw treatment from patients it deems to be racist or sexist.

    The North Bristol NHS Trust announced that patients will be subject a “sports-style disciplinary yellow card and then final red card in which treatment would be withdrawn as soon as is safe” on its official website.

    The policy would cover not just “Threatening and offensive language” but also “Racist or sexist language, gestures or behaviour” more generally, as well as “malicious allegations” — a rather troubling caveat, given the NHS has in the past been entangled in large-scale malpractice scandals which hospitals and staff have initially denied.

    “We have staff from many different backgrounds, from all over the world, and we pride ourselves on our commitment to equality which is a fundamental value of the NHS,” commented Andrea Young, Chief Executive for North Bristol NHS Trust.

    “We’re sending a strong signal that any racism or discrimination is completely unacceptable – we want staff to challenge and report it and we want everyone to know that it will have consequences.”

    How low the bar for deeming behaviour discriminatory and sufficiently “offensive” to withdraw treatment is not spelled out in explicit terms.

    For example, in late 2017 an NHS patient who requested a female nurse to carry out a cervical smear complained when the hospital sent a person with “an obviously male appearance… close-cropped hair, a male facial appearance and voice, large number of tattoos and facial stubble” who insisted “My gender is not male. I’m a transsexual”.

    It is not clear whether the patient could have fallen foul of the Bristol policy had it been in place and the nurse had chosen to take offence — and nor is it clear how far the trust’s assurances that it will only withdraw treatment once clinically safe extend, and if patients could, for example, be denied diagnostic procedures or so-called routine operations such as hip replacements, for which many patients have to wait eight months or more.

    British state authorities have previously proved somewhat overzealous in their enforcement of political correctness, with foster parents caring for three “not indigenous White British” children having them taken away by Labour-run Rotherham Borough Council in 2012 because they were members of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), then led by Nigel Farage.

    Strategic Director of Children and Young People’s Services Joyce Thacker said she was concerned that UKIP was opposed to mass immigration and the “active promotion of multiculturalism”, meaning UKIP members could not meet non-British children’s “cultural and ethnic needs”.

    Another NHS trust for the area, the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, has previously been criticised for ordering the removal of the British flag from security staff stab vests after someone complained that the country’s national banner was “offensive”.”

    The assessment was made by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, an independent expert body that evaluates intelligence, terrorist capability and intentions. It was announced in a written ministerial statement to Parliament.

    Iran has said its centrifuge decision is a direct result of U.S. President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the agreement more than a year ago.

    The European Union says it’s still committed to Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, even as that deal continues to collapse following U.S. President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the agreement.

    Maja Kocijancic, a spokeswoman for the European Commission, said Monday that the deal “is a matter of our security, not just the region or Europe but globally.” But she says the EU’s commitment to the deal “depends on the full compliance by Iran.”

    Earlier Monday, Iran broke further from the agreement by announcing it’s doubling the number of advanced centrifuges it operates. The announcement comes on the 40th anniversary of the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover in Tehran…”

    Little is known about the sister of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The Turkish official said that the 65-year-old known as Rasmiya Awad was captured in a raid Monday on a trailer container she was living in with her family near the town of Azaz. The area is part of the region administered by Turkey.

    The official said the sister was with her husband, daughter-in-law and five children. The adults are being interrogated, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity In line with government protocol.

    Al-Baghdadi was killed in a U.S. raid in the nearby province of Idlib last month.”

    “Mr. Rouhani has sent letters to the Saudi king on peace in the region,” he said.

    “The theme of the letters has been regional peace and stability,” Rabiee added.

    “We believe that multiple bilateral ties could be shaped in the region, and the US pressures should not cause a distance between the neighbors,” the spokesman underlined.

    The announcement came a few days after Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Rouhani has sent separate letters to the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) Member States and Iraq.

    “After the honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran put forward the ‘Hormuz Peace Endeavour’ in this year’s United Nations General Assembly, he sent its full text to the heads of the aforementioned countries, and in the letter, he called for collective cooperation among all of them in processing and implementing it (the initiative),” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday.”

      Saudi will ramp up plans for domestic nuclear weapons production. Buying the technology from us or from Russia, if they haven’t yet done so. Turkey and Egypt are also exploring their options.

      None of these countries is stable, Saudi one of the least, though it’s seldom reported.

    It unerringly points to Al Jazeera English as the veritable spoiler and a possible chink in the growing Turkey-Qatar strategic partnership.

    It starts off the opinion article with the fact that Turkey and Qatar are strategic partners, and since 2015, the two countries have taken their political, economic and military relations to the next level, citing examples of how Turkey and Qatar have repeatedly come to each others’ assistance.

    Today, that seemingly unshakable alliance is now under threat — from within, it wrote, stating, Al Jazeera English, Qatar’s flagship news channel, has been spreading anti-Turkey propaganda…”

    • Turkish pro-gov media orders Qatar to ‘weed out’ critical journalists

      In a withering attack on Al Jazeera and Qatar, the pro-government Daily Sabah slammed Al Jazeera English for being critical of Turkey’s foreign policy and demanded that it “weed out” journalists.

      Turkey, which Amnesty International calls “the world’s largest prison for journalists,” appears to be using its far-right nationalist media to try to order Qatar to muzzle Al Jazeera in English. The lead editorial at Daily Sabah calls the network a “threat against the Turkey-Qatar alliance.”

      The editorial begins by noting that Turkey and Qatar are “strategic partners” and accuses Israel and other countries of “ganging up” on Qatar. But the Turkish newspaper accuses Al Jazeera English, “Qatar’s flagship news channel,” of “spreading anti-Turkey propaganda under the pretext of independent and objective journalism.” Turkey’s pro-government media now accuses Qatar’s media of “jumping on the Western media’s Turkey-bashing bandwagon” and “smearing last month’s Turkish operation into northeastern Syria.”

      The US State Department slammed Turkey on Saturday as one of the “worst offenders” in crimes against journalists. Amnesty International says Turkey has arrested hundreds of people for being critical of Turkey’s invasion of Syria. The Daily Sabah article now reflects Turkey’s demands that regional media of other authoritarian states abide by Turkey’s demands and control critical journalists. There can be no critique of Turkey’s military operation, either in Turkish media or abroad.

      Germany’s current efforts to maintain its trade with Iran evokes memories of the early 1960’s, when West German scientists, many of whom worked for Hitler’s Third Reich, developed rockets for Egypt’s dictator Gamal Abdul Nasser, aiming to destroy the Jewish state. That was barely 18 years after the Holocaust, perpetrated by Nazi Germany against European Jewry.

    “Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report on November 4 condemning the continued oppression of activists, clerics, and women in Saudi Arabia.

    The report provided a timeline for the mass arrests Saudi Arabia has conducted since 2017.

    HRW found that Saudi Arabia arrested approximately 70 people in September 2017, including Salman al Awda, a cleric currently on trial for his alleged membership of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as another Saudi national named Essam al Zamil.

    Saudi Arabia also arrested in the same year, Hassan Farhan al Maliki, a religious thinker who is on trial for his religious ideas.

    HRW said Saudi Arabia detained 8 more people in 2017.

    The NGO also cited the arrests of several businessmen and former ministers, including Prince al-Waleed bin Talal in November 2017

    The businessman was among the 40 elites arrested on corruption charges and detained in the Ritz Carlton of Saudi Arabia in November 2017.

    Later in 2018, Saudi Arabia arrested 16 women’s rights advocates, including Aziza Yousef, Eman al-Nafjan, and Loujain alHathloul.

    The report said that the HRW obtained evidence that security services in Saudi Arabia tortured four female activists.

    “The torture included electric shocks, whippings, waterboarding, and sexual harassment.”

    HRW, citing a report from the New York Times, added that Saudi Arabia used “physical abuse to coerce so-called corruption detainees” in the Ritz Carlton.

    The report stated that at least 17 people required hospitalization for abuse in detention. HRW named Maj. Gen. Ali al-Qahtani, an aide to Prince Turki bin Abdullah, who later died in detention.

    HRW condemned the continued mass arrests in Saudi Arabia despite allegations linking the murder of prominent journalist Jamal Khashoggi to the state.

    “Around April 4, 2019, despite continuing international criticism stemming from the Khashoggi murder, Saudi Arabia carried out a new round of arrests, this time targeting 13 writers and activists, the HRW wrote.

    In response, the HRW wrote a set of recommendations for Saudi Arabia, calling for the immediate release of all prisoners.

    “Immediately release all prisoners held solely for their peaceful practice of their rights to free expression and association, including prisoners convicted of alleged crimes, prisoners currently on trial, and prisoners held arbitrarily,” the report said.

    HRW also asked Saudi Arabia to publicize information about the ongoing trial of the 11 suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.”

    “Gilles de Kerchove, the counter-terrorism coordinator for the European Union (EU), has described the EU-Morocco counterterrorism cooperation as “frozen.”

    Kerchove made his statement at a recent conference held in Brussels to discuss ISIS threats in Europe, according to the Maghreb Intelligence.

    “For more than four years, we no longer have any cooperation with Morocco in the field of information exchange, nor in the fight against terrorism, since relations were almost frozen because of the European Court’s judgments on the fisheries and agricultural agreements that had been contested by the Polisario,” the top EU official said,

    Kerchove referred to the European Court of Justice’s (ECJ) ruling in February 2018. On February 27, the ECJ announced that the EU fisheries agreement with Morocco is valid “as long as it does not include the Western Sahara” territory.

    Morocco strongly condemned the ruling, with legal experts calling on the court not to exceed its legal mandate by meddling in politics.

    Morocco reiterated that no agreement could be reached unless the Moroccan region of Western Sahara were also included.

    The EU subsequently renewed its agreement with Morocco, taking Morocco’s position into account.

    Kerchove described the European court’s “interruption” to counterterrorism cooperation, emphasizing the strength of Morocco as a leader in the field.

    He said that several countries benefit from Morocco’s expertise in the field, including the US, Spain, France, and Belgium.

    Morocco’s security services have an excellent reputation for strategy in the fight against terrorism, radicalization, and extremism.

    Among the reports and statements underling Morocco’s expertise in anti-terror strategy is the 2019 report from the US State Department.

    In its 2019 Country Report on Terrorism for Morocco, the department said that Morocco’s counterterrorism efforts have effectively mitigated risks of terrorism over the past three years.

    In 2017, Kerchove emphasized Morocco’s role in the global fight against terrorism, recalling that Morocco managed to “develop a very early detection system of radicalization signs.”

    “We have a lot to learn from Morocco in this area,” he added.

    Despite “frozen” cooperation in the field, Morocco and EU maintain cooperation in other fields, including migratory issues.

    The EU has long extolled Morocco’s strategy against undocumented migration.”

    Following the visit, Di Maio shared his country’s interest in reinforcing diplomatic and business cooperation with Morocco.

    He described Morocco as a “central” country for Italy.

    “It has long been consolidating its position as a gateway to Africa,” he said.

    The Italian official emphasized that his country should take an opportunity to explore new markets in Africa for investment and development.

    “Today, for example, our market share with Morocco is lower than that of Spain, France, and Germany. It is clear that we must aim to increase it,” the minister added.

    Di Miao, however, said that Morocco and Italy are bound by a migration agreement that dates to 1998.

    “We managed to repatriate 783 Moroccans,” he said.

    Di Maio added that the agreement “still needs to be ratified.”

    The minister explained that in the 1998 agreement both countries agreed to instill a “strict line” with regard to undocumented immigration.

    In October, the Italian government announced the signing of a new decree regarding asylum seekers.

    It will allow security services to reduce the decision-making period for asylum applications from two years to four months.

    Di Miao said after the signing of the decree, “I thank (Justice) Minister (Alfonso), Bonafede, Premier (Giuseppe) Conte and (Interior) Minister (Luciana) Lamorgese because this morning we signed a ministerial decree that enables us to bring down the measures to establish if a migrant can stay in Italy from two years to four months.”

    Italy listed 13 countries in the repatriation program, including Morocco and Tunisia.

    The countries on the list are deemed safe for repatriation, meaning that deported migrants’ lives will not be at risk.”

    “There are language disparities among primary school students in Zurich, but a new algorithm ensures the right proportion of foreigners in each classroom.

    According to Sunday’s SonntagsZeitung newspaper, the percentage of foreign students in high-income areas of the city is below 20 percent, while in other neighbourhoods the proportion can reach 75 percent.

    Authorities in Switzerland want to even out those numbers.

    This uneven distribution of immigrants “is problematic because the social composition of schools has a demonstrable effect on student performance”, said Oliver Dlabac, researcher at the Centre for Democracy, which is attached to the University of Zurich.

    “If you want more equal opportunity, you can do it only with a stronger mix”, he added.

    Dlabac is part of the team which developed an algorithm allowing schools to achieve parity between foreign and Swiss students in Zurich’s classrooms.

    To determine the right proportions, the software uses data from a census carried out in classes from the first to the third year of primary schools.

    “These are complicated calculations. A human could never take all of them into account”, Dlabac said.

    The algorithm could be used in the future in other Swiss cities with a high concentration of immigrants, he said.

    Overall, foreigners constitute about a quarter of Switzerland’s population.

    According to government statistics, 27.3 percent of primary school students in Switzerland are foreign, but some cantons have a higher ratio than others.
