I cannot remember a POTUS doing this before. Imagine the desperation of these people, and the hope PT gives them.
Speaking with a very reliable Iranian source this week I was told the situation in Iran is desperate. The U.S. sanctions on the country are having a huge impact. There is hyperinflation. Food is unaffordable. Food shops are closing. No money wire transfers from the west are possible. Telephone service won’t allow calls. I believe my source said only Instagram was working. The people, incredibly, are now hoping for war–anything to bring an end to this suffering.
From this account he then descended into an anti-American smoulder to which I asked, “But why don’t they blame the government? The fanatical religious leaders who have brought Iran to this?”
“They are 15% of the population who rule. Why can’t Iran have nukes? India has it. Pakistan and China have it. Russia has it. The Americans say no nukes. What kind of negotiation is this?”
And as I end the conversation to get another glass of wine, I am thinking he really wants to blame Israel for everything.
