When analyzing this interview we need to remember that Putin is a master politician and manipulator in a system where the losers die.
Does he mean what he said about keep the good of the masses in mind? Yes I think he does, he is smart enough that he knows he can’t remain in power unless the people are at least semi comfortable.
Does he mean what he said about the need for borders and control over immigration with the immigrants having to adjust to the culture and laws of the host country? Yes he does, Russia has problems with its internal Islamic population and Putin is worried about losing his nation to them.
Does he mean what he says about Christianity? From all I have heard he is a devout Christian who was baptized while the USSR still existed and being a baptized Christian was dangerous.
How much does he agree with the Donald and the populists in Europe and elsewhere? I am not sure, as I said above he is a master politician and manipulator who is at best a major competitor to the West and at worst an active enemy to the West. Some of what he said was probably the truth while some is probably meant to create increase the division between the political elites and the populists. Putin can be trusted to do what he thinks is best for Russia and he probably thinks that a weakened West is in Russia’s best interest.
Other things that need to be remembered is that while he is allied to China and Iran and is busy making a client state out of Syria he is also positioning himself to be seen as 1) the Protector of the Faith, and 2) The savior/protector of European civilization.
Was he warning the West and advising us on what we should do? Yes he was. What we have to do is to see what advantage for Russia is there in his warning us? I don’t think he wants the West totally destroyed but he would love to see all Western Nations weakened. He may also see the same major war in the future that I do and wants to keep Europe and the US strong enough to be useful allies to Russia.

Is Putin a Communist? Yes he is, he is also smart enough to know that he can’t bring back traditional communism and make it work. That is why he is overseeing the raise of crony capitalism with the Oligarchs as the new Central Committee.
