Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Russia’s newest frigate, escorts now operating in Caribbean
    Joseph Trevithick,The Drive June 20, 2019

[Ed. – The frigate, RFS Admiral Gorshkov, is a Northern Fleet (Barents Sea) ship, but came through the Panama Canal from the Pacific as part of a round-the-world show-the-flag deployment. This is actually a big deal: Admiral Gorshkov can be (and probably is) fitted with Russia’s Kalibr long-range cruise missile — used in Syria several times — in vertical launch tubes. The ship-launched Kalibr hasn’t been in the Western hemisphere before (although submarines with similarly capable missiles have been deploying off the U.S. East coast for several years). The frigate doesn’t have to get very close to pose a cruise missile threat to CONUS. At least one stop in Cuba is expected, which will be more than close enough.]

Russia’s Most Modern Warship And Its Escorts Have Entered The Caribbean Sea
It is the first time in years a Russian surface combatant has sailed into the region, let alone one able to fire modern land attack cruise missiles.
    By Joseph TrevithickJune 18, 2019

One of Russia’s newest warships, the first-in-class Project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov, is sailing in the Caribbean and may be headed toward Cuba. The ship’s presence in the region might incite the ire of the United States, especially if it also makes a visit to a port in Venezuela, where the U.S. government and Russia continue to support competing political factions. Wherever it sails, its impact might be somewhat muted by the fact that the rest of its flotilla consists of three support ships, including a heavy tug that often shadowed the Russian Navy’s accident-prone and now indefinitely out of commission aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

The Admiral Gorshkov transited from the Eastern Pacific Ocean into the Caribbean via the Panama Canal on June 17, 2019. The Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet says that it expects the first-in-class Project 23120 multi-function logistics ship Elbrus, the medium ocean-going tanker Kama, and the heavy ocean-going tug Nikolay Chiker to all have crossed into the Caribbean by tomorrow, according to an official statement. There is no formal word yet on where the ships are headed.

A perfect example of why Carter giving away the Panama Canal was treason.

The Canal’s strategic value was made clear during the Falkland Islands crisis. Much as with Chicom obstruction of South China Seas shipping lanes, the Malvinas represent a critical gateway to Cape Horn if ever the Panama Canal became obstructed.

None of which fully illustrates the canal’s vital strategic role in terms of America’s national security. If not competently controlled, the Panama Canal is a shortcut into America’s back porch.

Having the Admiral Gorshkov anywhere within striking distance of the CONUS is a major breach of national security. If remote sensing confirms the presence of nuclear materials onboard that vessel, then Putin needs to be pimp-slapped back into the stone age.

The Muslims like to say “First Saturday … then Sunday.”

Trump could just as easily say, “First Iran, then Communist China and … hey! Why not Russia for afters?”

Trump could be just like Hitler* and have the Red Bear for dessert.

  2. Obama judge bans ICE agents from arresting illegal aliens in state courts

A federal judge’s order blocking ICE agents from arresting illegal immigrants in or around Massachusetts courthouses sent shock waves through the enforcement ranks.

“I can’t believe it,” one immigration official told the Herald.

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, an Obama appointee, issued her preliminary injunction Thursday banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from any “civil immigration actions inside courthouses.” Talwani’s injunction gives Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan a big victory. They filed a federal lawsuit in April seeking to boot immigration officers from district courts, arguing that ICE’s practice of intercepting criminal defendants who are illegal immigrants could have a chilling effect on migrant communities’ involvement with the law.

The Boston-based federal judge’s order states that ICE agents cannot civilly arrest “parties, witnesses, and others attending Massachusetts courthouses on official business while they are going to, attending, or leaving the courthouse.”

The judge is allowing ICE agents to seize “individuals brought to the courthouse in state or federal custody.”

“I’m thrilled,” Rollins said of the injunction. “We look forward to continuing our vital work in courthouses across Suffolk County that will be positively impacted by (the) ruling.”

Ryan also praised the judge’s move, saying the “federal court has recognized the irreparable harm being caused by ICE’s disruptive policy of using our courthouses to conduct civil arrests.”

But Jessica Vaughan, a national immigration expert with the Center for Immigration Studies, said the ruling places ICE agents in danger.

  3. Palestinian ‘Moderates:’ Rifles, Hand Grenades and Terrorism

    by Bassam Tawil
    June 21, 2019 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14410/palestinian-moderates-terrorism

The Palestinian ruling Fatah faction, headed by Palestinian Authority President and PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas, is often described as a “moderate” and “pragmatic” group. There are many reasons and sufficient evidence to believe, however, that this assumption is unrealistic, if not totally false.

Before examining the rhetoric and actions of Fatah, one might do well to consider the group’s emblem, which depicts two fists holding rifles, and a hand grenade in the middle. In the background is a map of Israel (with no mention of Israel); the emblem is accompanied by a caption reading: “Revolution until victory.”

Why any group that proudly uses rifles and a hand grenade as its symbol is described as “moderate” and “pragmatic” remains a mystery. Could it be because it is an anti-Israel group that calls itself the Palestinian National Liberation Movement and was established with the declared goal of “liberating Palestine” — specifically meaning, destroying Israel?

The rifles and hand grenade are a blunt sign of Fatah’s true message to the Palestinians — that the armed struggle against Israel should continue until the “liberation of Palestine,” just as its name suggests.

Why does Fatah continue to use rifles and a hand grenade after its leaders signed the Oslo Accord with Israel in 1993 and Abbas continues to claim that he supports a two-state solution?

  4. the guardian – Police called to loud altercation at Boris Johnson’s home

Police were called to the home of Boris Johnson and his partner, Carrie Symonds, in the early hours of Friday morning after neighbours heard a loud altercation involving screaming, shouting and banging.

[…]The neighbour said they recorded the altercation from inside their flat out of concern for Symonds. On the recording, heard by the Guardian, Johnson can be heard refusing to leave the flat and telling Symonds to “get off my fucking laptop” before there is a loud crashing noise.

Symonds is heard saying Johnson had ruined a sofa with red wine: “You just don’t care for anything because you’re spoilt. You have no care for money or anything.”

The neighbour said: “There was a smashing sound of what sounded like plates. There was a couple of very loud screams that I’m certain were Carrie and she was shouting to ‘get out’ a lot. She was saying ‘get out of my flat’ and he was saying no. And then there was silence after the screaming[…]

  5. DAILY MAIL – AUSTRALIA – Horrific video captures the bloody aftermath of a jihadist prisoner’s savage attack on his cellmate – leaving the victim with an Islamic State slogan carved into his forehead

In 2016 Bourhan Hraichie etched an Islamic State slogan into a cellmate’s head
In a letter that year he said he turned the man ‘into an Islamic State sketch pad’
Newly released footage shows the bloody aftermath of the horrifying attack
Hraichie pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder

Bourhan Hraichie, 21, used a razor to carve ‘E4E’ – which stands for the ISIS slogan ‘eye for an eye’ – into his cellmate Michael O’Keefe’s head in 2016.

He also whipped him with an electrical cord and tried to waterboard him during a barbaric attack at a prison in mid New South Wales.

NSW inmate says he’ll always support jihad

A radicalised NSW inmate has told a court he’s sorry for waterboarding and carving an Islamic State slogan into his cellmate’s forehead but not for attacking the former soldier.
A “physical attack would be OK”, Bourhan Hraichie said from the dock in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday.

He was confirming what he wrote in an earlier letter to the judge, which said the attack “was done for Islamic reasons and it is an honourable and praiseworthy act that I hope to be rewarded for by Allah”.

The now 21-year-old also wrote: “I will always support Jihad as it is part of Islam and I love my brothers from Al Qaida and the Taliban and the other mujahid soldiers”.

He previously pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to four charges, including doing an act in preparation for a terrorist act and causing grievous bodily harm/wounding to Michael O’Keefe with intent to murder .

He also admitted sending a document threatening death or grievous bodily harm, after he wrote a letter threatening to kill NSW prisons boss Peter Severin if he didn’t stop staff “oppressing” Hraichie, saying “I will personally execute you in public”.

Hraichie was due to be sentenced on April 26, after sentence hearings which included an expert’s opinion that he was not aligned to jihad views, and evidence from his parents saying he was remorseful for his crimes and was moving towards deradicalisation.

  6. SIS maniac, 27, disguised ‘lethal’ shrapnel bombs as teddy bears and dumped them in US streets where kids could find them

By: Christy Cooney, The Sun, 18 Jun 2019:
An ISIS supporter disguised potentially lethal bombs as household items and left them in the street for members of the public to find.

Wesley Dallas Ayers, 27, planted three real bombs, including one disguised as a teddy bear, and three fake ones around South Carolina.

The FBI has now released images of the disturbing packages planted by Ayers, who was given a 30-year prison sentence in February.

One man received minor burns to his leg after a wicker basket he had noticed glowing while driving with his daughter exploded.

Police later discovered a note written in Arabic and referencing Osama bin Laden.

In the following weeks, two more genuine bombs were found by members of the public but rendered safe by law enforcement.

The teddy-shaped bomb was found left in the road, its eyes also glowing to make it visible.

FBI Special Agent Christopher Derrickson said: “This was deliberately placed where a child or passerby could have found it.

“Fortunately, someone saw it and knew to call us.”

Three hoax objects were also found in different locations with notes declaring that the community was no longer safe.

One object designed to resemble a bomb was left in a black box containing a letter pledging allegiance to the Islamic State.

Judge Henry Herlong found that the dangerous and lethal nature of the real devices, which were weaponised with shrapnel, concealed in household items, and publicly placed in or near roadways, justified the substantial sentence.

He also emphasised that Ayers’s campaign had lasted more than a month, and said it was only by the efforts of police and good fortune more people had not been seriously harmed or killed.

Ayers was caught after a witness told police he had been talking about building bombs at his home.

A judge approved a warrant for a search of Ayers’s house, where police found bomb components and copies of the writings found at the crime scenes.

They also found two guns and a type of vest used by suicide bombers, while DNA evidence linked Ayers with the explosive devices.

Ayers’ search history showed he had viewed terrorist material from Anwar al-Awlaki, a Yemeni-American linked to the al-Qaeda leadership, as well as Osama bin Laden.

The judge said the lethal nature of the bombs justified a 30-year sentence

“TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni forces conducted a new drone attack against Jizan airport in southern Saudi Arabia on Thursday, causing air traffic suspension.

Saudi Arabian officials have been forced to suspend air traffic at an airport in the southern province of Jizan following another major drone attack by Yemeni forces in retaliation for the kingdom’s ongoing war against the country,

Brigadier Yahya Saree, the spokesman for Yemeni Armed Forces, said that a number of targets at the Jizan airport have been destroyed following the attacks on Thursday by the Yemeni Air Force’s Qasif-2K drone, al-Masirah TV reported.

  8. Saudi Crown Prince, Trump Discuss Iran’s Escalatory Behavior (aawsat, Jun 21, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1778421/saudi-crown-prince-trump-discuss-iran%E2%80%99s-escalatory-behavior

“Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and US President Donald Trump held a telephone call on Friday to discuss Iran’s escalatory behavior, said the White House.

“The two leaders discussed Saudi Arabia’s critical role in ensuring stability in the Middle East and in the global oil market. They also discussed the threat posed by the Iranian regime’s escalatory behavior,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

The phone call took place in the wake of Iran’s shooting down of an unmanned US drone in the Gulf region, which prompted Trump to prepare but ultimately hold back from launching a retaliatory attack.

The destruction of the drone was the latest in an escalating series of incidents in the Gulf region, a critical artery for global oil supplies, since mid-May, including explosive strikes on six oil tankers.”

  9. Saudi intelligence chief lobbies London for strikes against Iran: UK source (mee, Jun 21, 2019)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/saudi-intelligence-chief-lobbied-london-strikes-against-iran-uk-source

“A Saudi intelligence chief pleaded with British authorities to carry out limited strikes against Iranian military targets, just hours after Donald Trump aborted planned US attacks against the Islamic Republic, a senior UK official told Middle East Eye.

The intelligence chief was accompanied by Saudi diplomat Adel al-Jubeir on his trip to London, the source said.

Still, the Saudi lobbying efforts fell on deaf ears, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

“Our people were sceptical,” the source said, adding that the Saudi official was told a plain “no” in response to the request.

The Saudi official also provided additional intelligence linking Iran to a recent attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, but his British counterparts were “not impressed” with the new evidence.

The British government has already publicly backed the Saudi and American accusation that Tehran is behind the Gulf of Oman attacks.

“I condemn yesterday’s attacks on vessels in the Gulf of Oman. UK’s assessment concludes that responsibility for the attacks almost certainly lies with Iran,” UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt wrote on twitter on 14 June.

“These latest attacks build on a pattern of destabilising Iranian behaviour and pose a serious danger to the region.”

According to the British source, the Saudi intelligence chief will head to Jerusalem at the weekend, where he will engage in similar lobbying efforts with Israeli officials and US National Security Adviser John Bolton, an anti-Iran hawk, who will be visiting Israel.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his country’s support for Washington against Iran.

“I repeat my call for all peace-loving countries to stand by the United States in its effort to stop Iranian aggression,” he said in a video message posted on Twitter.

    Aborted strikes
The news comes as Trump halted US strikes against Iranian targets 10 minutes before their launch late on Thursday. The military operation was planned in response to the downing of a US drone a day earlier.

Iran has blamed Washington for the incident, saying that the drone was over its territorial waters. Washington maintains that the unmanned plane was over international waters…”

  10. Rabbi and Jewish leader spit on outside Hamburg City Hall
    http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/264931

A Hamburg rabbi and a Jewish leader were spit on and accosted during an anti-Semitic incident on the street.

Shlomo Bistritzky, the regional chief rabbi in Hamburg, and local Jewish community member Eliezer Noe were leaving a meeting with Mayor Peter Tschentscher at Hamburg City Hall on Thursday afternoon when a passer-by threatened and spat on them, the German media reported.

A 45-year-old man of Moroccan background was arrested following a struggle with police.

Bistritzky, who is an emissary of Chabad-Lubavitch, told the Hamburg Abendblatt newspaper that the man first said “Shalom” to them.

“Then he said something that sounded threatening. We faced him and asked him what he had said,” Bistritzky continued. “He then reached under his shirt and pulled out something … and began to threaten us verbally.”

The object reportedly turned out to be a lighter; the man held out the open flame while spewing insults and spitting at the men. He reportedly spoke both Arabic and German.

Bistritzky took a cellphone photo of the man and ran back to City Hall, where police were standing. The officers attempted to speak with the man, who then tried to flee, while spitting on Bistritzky and Noe again.

Police eventually subdued and arrested the man, placing a “spit protection hood” on him.

Bistritzky told the Abendblatt that he “never thought something like this could happen in Hamburg, let alone in this spot. We took it as a bad sign, too, that the attacker was released after two hours.”

The state police have taken over the investigation.

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190621-us-adds-saudi-arabia-to-human-trafficking-blacklist/

“The United States yesterday added Saudi Arabia to a blacklist of countries that do not play a sufficient role in fighting human trafficking.

According to the US’ annual report on human trafficking, Saudi Arabia has failed to prevent large scale violations committed against its foreign labour force, Lebanese newspaper the Daily Star reported.

The US also accused Cuba of human trafficking under the guise of a program to send doctors abroad, pointing out that similar action has been taken against 22 countries.

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said of the countries named in the report: “If you don’t stand up to trafficking, America will stand up to you.”

Countries that remained at Tier 3 – the lowest classification according to the report – included China, North Korea, Russia and Venezuela. A Tier 3 designation means that the US can restrict financial assistance or withdraw support for that country in global institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”

  13. US Senator Ted Cruz says will introduce new legislation labelling Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group (ahram, Jun 21, 2019)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/336524/Egypt/Politics-/US-Senator-Ted-Cruz-says-will-introduce-new-legisl.aspx

“US Senator Ted Cruz said he is planning to introduce “enhanced” legislation to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation “in the short future,” in remarks made to a panel held Thursday on the issue.

Cruz sponsored legislation in 2017 that would require the White House to decide whether the Brotherhood fit the criteria for terrorist designation.

During the panel, held at a US Senate building, Cruz dismissed calls to think of the Brotherhood as a moderate group and said the organisation “does not hide they are a terrorist organisation.”

Egypt designated the Brotherhood a terrorist organisation in 2013, months after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi following mass protests.

Cruz said Cairo has done so “perhaps because they have seen first-hand what that terror looks like and the slaughter that it can produce.”

“We need that same clarity,” he said in a video message to the panel, which was organised by American Pulse, an Egyptian media company that produces a weekly TV programme from New York. It was also attended by Congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas.

Cruz said the intent of the Brotherhood is stated within its Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America which, according to him, says “the process of settlement is a civilization-jihad process…The [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilisation from within.”

The White House said in April that US President Donald Trump’s administration is pushing to designate the Brotherhood a terrorist group, a move that would bring US sanctions against the movement.

Officials in the Pentagon and State Department have raised objections to the plan, saying that the group does not meet the legal definition of a terrorist group and that the designation might have unfavourable consequences.

Cruz slammed what he described as the Obama administration’s “willful blindness” to radical Islamic terrorism, saying it is “dangerous and makes us vulnerable.”

“The Obama administration had edited or deleted over 800 records to remove any reference to jihad or Muslim brotherhood… it was a purge” directed by the White House,” he said.

He urged the Congress to pass the legislation, and continued to urge the Trump’s administration to “act right now on its own today.””

“Security forces neutralized six PKK terrorists as part of domestic security operations in eastern Turkey, the Interior Ministry said Friday.

The airstrikes of the gendarmerie in the Siirt province targeted terrorists in the Pervari town, the ministry said in a statement.

The counter-terrorism operation in the region is ongoing.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/turkey-slams-greece-for-violating-lausanne-peace-treaty/1512458

“Turkey on Friday decried a decision by Greece that local religious leaders, known as muftis, among the Turkish minority living in the Western Thrace would henceforth be appointed by the state instead of being elected by the local people.

“Greece violates the Lausanne Peace Treaty by not recognizing the muftis selected by the Turkish minority,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hami Aksoy said.

Aksoy, said the move violated the minority’s religious rights.

Underlining that this decree would eliminate the autonomy of the Mufti establishment in the country, he urged Greece to have intimate and comprehensive communication with the Turkish minority to resolve this problem in line with the Lausanne Treaty.

He said Greece must recognize the muftis elected by the minority and reverse its policy of imposing illegally appointed ones.

Aksoy also underlined that it was “worrying” that such intrusive and negative acts took place in an EU member state.

In Greece, the muftis of the Turkish minority in Western Trace are appointed by the government; however, the Turkish minority rejects this policy and demands the muftis be locally-elected by them.

Today, about 150,000 ethnic Turkish people reside in Western Thrace with their status set by the Lausanne Peace Treaty of 1923 and their rights guaranteed by several bilateral and multilateral agreements.

The Turkish minority of Greece faces a variety of issues including state denial of ethnic identity, inadequate education provision and restrictions on freedom of religion, purchase of property and political representation.”

“Some 100 migrants landed on the Italian island of Lampedusa in three waves on Friday.

The first 81 landed at dawn from a dinghy after being left off the island by a trawler trying to return to North African coast.

The ‘mother ship’ was intercepted and blocked by a launch belonging to the Finance Guard tax police.

    https://www.france24.com/en/20190622-french-tribunal-orders-authorities-provide-water-migrant-shelter

“France’s highest administrative court ordered authorities Friday to install water points, showers, and toilets in a gymnasium housing hundreds of migrants in conditions NGOs described as a violation of fundamental rights.

The Council of State gave regional authorities eight days to install “sufficient” resources and to provide some 700 migrants with information, in their own languages, about their rights, according to the order seen by AFP.

The council was approached by eight associations and the local authorities of Grande-Sythe in the north of France, where the gymnasium is located, with concerns about the migrants’ living conditions, the “inaction” of the state, and the “violation of fundamental rights”.

Migrants have been present in large numbers in Grande-Sythe and a nearby forest for about 10 years, trying to make it to Britain across the English Channel.

In 2008, the municipality decided, against the wishes of the central authorities, to open a gymnasium to house them.

It is the responsibility of the state to ensure “that the right of every person not to be submitted to inhuman or degrading treatment is guaranteed,” members of the council said, adding that “the sanitary facilities of the gymnasium… are obviously insufficient.”

The situation constituted a “deficiency” in the state’s execution of its mission, said the council.

The regional authority said it had taken note of the decision.”
