Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

He reasons that the counter-proposal by the EU did not comply with the terms of the proviso to Art.50(3) TEU, and accordingly that is was not effective in law to to stop the Article 50 process running up to and including 29 March 2019 at 11.00pm. He concludes: Whichever way one looks at it, the Agreement was either unlawful or made for an unlawful purpose or ultra vires .That means that the UK left the EU on the 29th March 2019 by default as there was no valid or lawful impediment to prevent it. The scale of the issue may be much bigger, however, as reviews into only a quarter of the 4,302 deaths reported to LeDeR had been completed by the end of last year.     This isn’t the first time the Boy Scouts have been accused of protecting pedophiles and allowing them to move from troop to troop. Hundreds of individual sex abuse cases have been brought against the Scouts over the last several decades, and in 2010, a judge ordered the organization to make public an internal list of men accused of preying on boys. Within Scout headquarters, the list was known as the “P Files” or “Perversion Files.” In January, a child abuse expert hired by the Boy Scouts to analyze the files testified that she found 12,254 boys had reported experiencing sexual abuse at the hands of at least 7,800 suspected assailants between 1944 and 2016. Academics who research child sex abuse tell TIME that number is likely a gross underestimation. Many boys were likely intimidated or shamed out of reporting their assailants, who often held influential positions in local churches, schools, or businesses. The Boy Scouts say that they’ve made changes in recent years to identify and eliminate abusers from the organization, including creating the 24-hour “Scouts First helpline” to report misconduct. But a Maryland mother who says her then-14-year-old son was sexually abused by two older teen-age counselors at a Boy Scouts camp last year didn’t find it helpful.     In a pastoral newsletter for June, which made no mention of Jesus but instead heavily pushed for more establishment-promoted globalism, the diocese of Lichfield blasted the existence of “pockets of climate change deniers” who dared “portray protestors as misguided and even members of an ‘eco mob’” demanding Christians instead “salute” the aggressive, ‘eco-anarchist’ group “for prioritising the future of our planet over the comfort of their armchairs”.”

    The House Judiciary Committee announced Monday that it will hold a series of hearings as part of a bipartisan investigation into whether there is enough competition among U.S. technology companies.

    While no companies were named, any investigation will inevitably touch on Amazon, Facebook, Google and Apple, all of which have come under increased scrutiny in recent years for their dominance in a variety of markets including social networking, online advertising, online search, e-commerce and mobile apps.

    A 23-year-old man identified as a U.S. citizen died Monday following a shootout with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, San Diego police officials confirmed.

    Shots were fired after the northbound driver failed to stop for an inspection at the border crossing located south of San Diego, CPB confirmed.

    A CBP spokesperson said a driver in a white pickup truck approached the port at around 7:30 p.m. and refused to stop.

    “The suspect began firing a gun out of his vehicle towards the officers, then exited his vehicle and continued firing at the officers,” the statement from SDPD Homicide explained. “The officers returned fire, striking the suspect.”

    At least 52 people were shot, eight of them fatally, across Chicago over the weekend, the most violent of the year as summer gets underway, with a toll even higher than during the long Memorial Day holiday just a week earlier.

    More than half the victims were wounded during a 12-hour burst of gunfire from Friday evening to Saturday morning. At least four of the 31 people shot during that time died after attacks on the West and South sides. At least one other person over the weekend was fatally stabbed, bringing the homicide toll to nine.

    “It’s something he’s aware of and is checking out,” a senior Trump campaign official told Politico, referring to the president’s social media manager, Brad Parscale. “We don’t currently have a plan to make a big move to the platform.” The official was responding to questions about Parler, a fledgling social media network created in 2018 that caters to conservatives.

    Parscale and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican, both began posting on the site in May. Pundits Gavin McInnes, Laura Loomer and Milo Yiannopoulos joined after they were booted from Twitter, a Silicon Valley company some conservatives believe is biased in favor of liberal views.

    Something I’ve never understood about self-loathing whites is how they can tolerate living in their own skin. Take as an example lily-white Richard Fochtmann, a one-time senatorial candidate from Maine, who was captured on video in 2917 laughing out loud at a report noting a rise in the suicide rate among white males.

    Or for something of more recent vintage, consider Steven Becky, a Utah man, currently facing jail time. Last Saturday, Steven Becky purposely struck and ran down an an 11-year-old girl walking her scooter up a hill, later telling police in a written statement that he acted as he did “because she wa [sic] white,” according to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City. Why couldn’t Becky, who is also white, have taken his fear and loathing out on himself and steered his car over the edge of a cliff in a deserted area?

    As it is, Becky was driving on the wrong side of the road and swerved to the opposite side with the expressed purpose of hitting the child. After he had done so, an eyewitness said, he exited his car (which had flipped over in the crash), aggressively strode up to the injured girl and said, “We all have to die sometime.” The eyewitness restrained Becky until police could arrive.

    He threatened that Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities would be “crushed” if a future conflict with Israel erupts, and he added: “If not for Iran’s support for the resistance… we would not have obtained these capabilities.

    Our [Arab] nation has deserted us in our difficult moments, while Iran has supported us with weapons, equipment, and expertise.”

    The speech was delivered on the occasion of the Iranian-declared “Jerusalem Day.”

  50. Islam and Prison: Why Are So Many Inmates Converting?

    An estimated 40,000 inmates in U.S. prisons are converting to Islam every year. At the outset, it is important to note that religious conversion to Islam – or any religion — is not by itself an indicator of future extremism, violent or otherwise.

    Of course, there are many examples where conversion to Islam in prison was part of a radicalization process.

    Yet, in the U.S., it should be noted that inmates that convert to Islam have lower recidivism rates than average (in most states, over half of all released inmates recidivate within three years).

    In Part I (below) of our three-part series on Islam in U.S. Prisons, we explore the question: Why are prisoners converting to Islam?

    The following is an interview with Clarion’s research associate who has been following this issue.

    Question: Can you tell us what are the main reasons why inmates are converting to Islam?

    Answer: There are three main reasons why those in prison convert to Islam: The first has to do with the psychology of prison and stems from the need to belong. The second is the welcoming aspect of Islam, and the third is the pathway it offers to rehabilitation.

    Q: Can you explain how each of these factors work?

    A: Let’s first talk about factors that I call “the psychology of prison.” Being in prison is very different from being “on the outside.” More often than not, on a safety level, inmates need a group to protect them. The need for a group to belong to is also a factor on an emotional level.

    Islam is attractive because it gives a prisoner a group to belong to and identify with. The Islamic concept of communal worship has been credited with the fact that converts to Islam are larger than any other religion in the U.S. prison system.

    In addition, whereas other groups many shun a prisoner because of the crime he committed or even the color of his skin, prisoners report that Muslim groups in prisons are open to all types of inmates.

    Q: Are there other factors at play as well?

    A: Of course, as is human nature, some converts just want to play the system. They think that Muslims get better treatment, food, privileges, etc.

    Others may simply want to escape the dreary day-to-day aspect of prison life. But many inmates are in genuine spiritual crises. This group is looking for redemption.

    Q: You mentioned that in the U.S., conversion to Islam can be pathway to rehabilitation. Can you explain that more?

    A: Yes, this is a unique factor that we see happening in the U.S. versus Europe where prison conversion and subsequent radicalization is a huge problem [see Part III of this series].

    But in the U.S., more often than not, a conversion to Islam can be a big factor in a prisoner’s rehabilitation. Islam requires personal and moral discipline. For those struggling with alcohol or drug addictions, it can provide a positive structure and a means of support and motivation to stay away from these substances.

    In fact, studies have shown that the moral and social discipline of the religion allows these addicts to cope much better after conversion.

    One of the most important figures in the Bay Area Muslim Community, for example, is Imam Abu Qadir Al-Amin, the former leader of the San Francisco Muslim Community Center. After a year of incarceration in San Quentin on death row, he embraced Islam.

    As it turned out, his death sentence was cancelled and he was released six years later. He then became active teaching in prisons. Al-Amin went on to lead one of the most thriving and diverse communities in the Bay Area, was a member of the Northern California Majlis al-Shurah and has received numerous civic awards for his community activism, both in prisons and the inner city.

    He is now the associate director of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, based in San Francisco. Today, Al-Amin regularly speaks about the criminal justice system, Islam and the possibilities for social rehabilitation of prisoners.
