“The new leader of the National Union of Students has been elected on a platform of calling for a national strike at Britain’s universities.
Zamzam Ibrahim, 24, said in her manifesto the strike would be for free education, better maintenance grants for less wealthy students and the return of a post-study work visa for people from abroad, her manifesto says.
Ms Ibrahim sparked controversy in 2017 when online posts she made as a 16-year-old came to light, which said she wanted to ‘oppress white people’ and see an ‘Islamic takeover’. She insists they were ‘taken out of context’ and her views have changed.
Ms Ibrahim was president of the students’ union at Salford University and is the third female ethnic minority NUS leader in a row, taking the reins from Shakira Martin.
She said in her election statement: ‘Our national union and our education sector are facing some of the biggest challenges it has had to confront in living memory and is in dire need of transformation.
‘Universities across the UK are facing bankruptcy, college students are unable to afford their journeys to class and racism is running rampant on our campuses.
‘There has never been a greater need to rebuild our national union as the fighting, unwavering force that is primed to brave the challenges that lie ahead.’
In the old posts, Ms Ibrahim suggested friendship between men and women is un-Islamic and opposed to the government’s anti-radicalisation strategy, Prevent.
In one message she responded to a question on AskFM on what book everyone should read. She said: ‘The Quaraan. We would have an Islamic takeover!’
In another message on the topic of the possibility of friendship between a man and a woman, she replied: ‘I’ve had this debate with many friends! Maybe in some cases but Islamically it’s incorrect for girls to be friends with a guy anyway!
‘So I’m gonna say NO not the kind of friendship they can have with the same gender there is always boundaries.’
In one tweet from May 9, 2012 under the hashtag #ifIwasPresident, she wrote: ‘I’d oppress white people just to give them a taste of what they put us through!’
Writing after the furore caused by the since-deleted tweets, Ms Ibrahim said they were sent at a time she was ‘still working out who I was’.
‘The adolescent comments of a young girl were twisted to make them seem far more sinister than they ever were intended to be,’ she wrote on The Independent.
‘There’s no doubt this collection of social media posts was supposed to make me seem like a fanatical Muslim and a threat to British society.
‘I find it strange that I even have to clarify this, but for the avoidance of doubt I will [again]: the comments clearly do not reflect my views today.’
Ms Ibrahim attended Bolton Sixth Form College before attending Salford to study business and financial management.
Ms Ibrahim said today: ‘I have been fighting for liberation, equality and against injustice throughout my time both within and out of the student movement.
‘In response to media outlets deliberately targeting out of context, misrepresentative social media posts, they purposefully undermine young people – particularly young Muslim women – from coming forward to make a positive difference to society.
‘I have worked with interfaith, anti-racist and diversity organisations, bringing communities together to foster inclusivity and respect. This work will be at the heart of NUS going forward.’ “

BREITBART – Climate Barbie Warns: Global Warming Is Targeting Canada
“The science is clear. Canada is warming faster than the rest of the world from human-caused climate change,” said Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, in a Wednesday morning tweet.
Canada’s disproportionate warming “is an alarming reminder of the need to take real action and continue fighting climate change. We can, we must, and we will,” Ms. McKenna said.
McKenna, affectionately known as “Climate Barbie,” was referencing a claim by the World Economic Forum that “Canada is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world.”
One might be tempted to think that a little warming might do Canada some good.
In McKenna’s hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, the average temperature during March 2019 was below freezing (-1.3º C or 29.7º F). The daily average maximum temperature during the month was 3.5º C (38.3º F), while the average minimum temperature during the same period was -6.2º C (20.8º F).
In Ottawa, Ms. McKenna’s current home, temperatures were even colder. The average for the month was well below freezing at -4.2º C (24.4º F), while the average daily high was just 0.7º C (33.3º F) and the average daily low for the month was -9º C (15.8º F).
Ms. McKenna’s constituents can rest assured that she is bound and determined to keep Canada cold.
The Climate Change Minister is taking heat, however, for her decision to award $12 million in funding to Loblaw, Canada’s largest food retailer, so it can cut carbon dioxide emissions by installing more energy-efficient refrigerators.
On Tuesday, critics asked why Ms. McKenna chose to subsidize Loblaw, a firm with annual net earnings of some $800 million that has confessed to a 14-year price-fixing scheme for bread and last year received a court order to pay back taxes of around $368 million related to a banking subsidiary in the Caribbean.
“We have a climate plan that works with everyone. It works with large businesses, small businesses, cities, schools, hospitals, municipalities,” McKenna said.
“Loblaw was one of the 50 winners through the competitive process. Why? Because they can get the most significant emission reductions,” she said.
Last October, McKenna famously confused the issue of air pollution with the emission of greenhouse gases such as CO2. Air pollution is generally measured in the concentration of fine particulate matter in the air, leading to a multitude of serious health problems.
According to a 2018 report by the World Health Organization (WHO), “around 7 million people die every year from exposure to fine particles in polluted air that penetrate deep into the lungs and cardiovascular system, causing diseases including stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and respiratory infections, including pneumonia.”
The WHO database analyzes annual mean concentrations of fine particulate matter, noting that those that pose “the greatest risks to human health” are sulfate, nitrates, and black carbon.
Significantly, the report made no mention of “climate change” and spoke only of the adverse health effects of polluted air, an unrelated phenomenon.
All of the potentially fatal pathologies mentioned in the report are caused by “exposure to fine particles in polluted air” and not by global warming, much less exposure to carbon dioxide.
Unlike pollutants — foreign substances that contaminate air, water, or land — carbon dioxide is odorless, colorless, and most importantly, non-toxic. It is an essential component of air, not a pollutant of air.
Human beings expel carbon dioxide with every breath they take (without polluting) and breathe it in with every lungful of air they inhale.
Ms. McKenna is not alone in her climate confusion, however. Canadian finance minister Bill Morneau has made the same mistake, referring to CO2 emissions as “carbon pollution.”
So what of the latest warming scare?
If Canada is truly warming at twice the pace of the rest of the globe, one could be forgiven for suspecting that all the hot air proceeding from Ottawa might have something to do with it.

Transgender Rights: Judge Warns Girls Have No Right to ‘Visual Bodily Privacy’
A federal judge is allowing a lawsuit against transgender facilities in a school district to proceed, but warned the student-plaintiffs that, if the government allows boys who claim to be female to use the girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms, then the girls have no right to “visual bodily privacy.”
Judge Jorge Alonso of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division is allowing a lawsuit to proceed against the school district that adopted the Obama-era transgender policy permitting boys claiming to be female to use the girls’ bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms.
However, the judge informed the girls, represented by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), that, “[s]o far, the right not to be seen unclothed by the opposite sex is not on the Supreme Court’s list.”

There’s a “Red Storm Rising” just miles from America’s shores. “In point of fact, the entire hemisphere is on fire,” said Lou Dobbs on his widely watched Fox Business Network show on April 4. “China and Russia are engaging us in almost every quarter in this hemisphere. Russia and China in Venezuela, but China throughout the hemisphere and throughout the Caribbean.”
Throughout the Caribbean, China’s influence is growing fast. Trade and investment have made Beijing a power. Chinese motives are not solely commercial, however, and do not appear benign.
We begin on the island of New Providence, in the Bahamas. The Export-Import Bank of China in 2011 extended a $2.45 billion construction loan for the Baha Mar resort, near the capital of Nassau. The project, troubled from the start, is the largest and most expensive in the Caribbean.
The project’s size is a curiosity, and China’s large commitment to the Caribbean is, from an economic viewpoint, intriguing. As Evan Ellis of the U.S. Army War College points out, China, on a per capita basis, has more equity invested in the Caribbean than in the rest of Latin America. This is noteworthy in that the Caribbean has, in comparison to the rest of that region, far fewer natural resources and only a tiny market for Chinese goods. As Ellis told Roll Call, “It really isn’t about the market or the materials if you look at the amount that they are investing.”

The student’s mother told the Bild newspaper that her daughter was “beaten and verbally attacked on the way to school” by a group of Muslim girls.

The source said Iraq had proposed a rate of $2 million per suspect per year, calculated based on the estimated operational costs of a detainee in the U.S. military detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
“We made the proposal last week but have not gotten a response yet,” the source added.
A second official said Iraq had requested $2 billion to try the suspects as “one of several options,” and could ask for “more money to cover the costs of their detention.”
Iraq has already tried and sentenced several hundred foreign ISIS members, and others are in detention in Baghdad awaiting trial.
They include at least 12 French nationals who were transferred from Syria in February.
A third Iraqi official said detainees from as many as 52 countries could be put on trial in Baghdad.
“Iraq proposed to the coalition setting up a special tribunal to try foreigners. There’s been a constructive beginning to those discussions,” the source said.
But setting up the court could be complicated, the official said, with questions over whether international funding for it would preclude any implementation of the death penalty.
The source added that Iraq had opted to propose the arrangement to the Coalition as a whole because it was simpler than negotiating with each country individually.

China’s government-linked telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies has hired a senior Obama administration cyber security official as a lobbyist, according to a congressional filing.
Samir Jain, former senior director for cybersecurity policy at the White House National Security Council, notified Congress March 27 that he is registering as a lobbyist for the Shenzhen-based Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Jain is now with the lobbying firm Jones Day.
According to his online biography for Jones Day, Jain worked at the White House from 2016 to 2017 and before that was an associate deputy attorney general from 2014 to 2015, where he worked on national security and computer fraud issues.
At the White House, Jain led a team responsible for cyber incident response and was chairman of an interagency group that reviewed proposed cyber operations by the U.S. government. He also worked on international issues, such as a campaign to win support for U.S.-proposed international cyber norms.

IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said on Wednesday that his forces have seized a 131-meter-long oil tanker at the Strait of Hormuz that was smuggling more than 12.5 million liters of fuel out of the country.
He said it was the biggest ever haul of smuggled fuel confiscated in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
The operation, which followed a series of intelligence activities, led to the detection of one of the leading networks involved in smuggling fuel in the Persian Gulf and dealt a hard blow to a main ring smuggling fuel in the province of Hormozgan, the commander added.
Rear Admiral Tangsiri said that in the operation, 21 people with different nationalities have been arrested and will face trial.
In comments on the first day of the Iranian year in March 2017, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to combat smuggling and contraband goods as part of plans to stimulate domestic production and combat unemployment.

The network promised the majority of the victims jobs with salaries, but upon arrival to the countries the victims were abused and forced to work without pay.
Indonesia arrested eight suspects in connection to the case. The recent discovery is Indonesia’s largest human trafficking bust.
Among the networks, one trafficked Indonesians from West Nusa Tenggara, a province in the south of Indonesia, and Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, to Morocco. Police arrested two suspects, Mutiara and Farhan, linked to the network between Indonesia and Morocco. The traffickers took the victims from Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara to Jakarta and then sent them to Malaysia via Batam. From Malaysia they sent the victims to Morocco.
“These migrant Indonesian workers realized that they had been duped after they were forced to suffer many abuses including violence, rape and unpaid salaries. They ran away and reported their cases to the embassies or consulate general offices,” said the Indonesian criminal investigation director general, Herry Rudolf Nahak.
Indonesian police will charge the eight suspects who orchestrated the trafficking networks under Articles 4 and 10 of Indonesian human trafficking law, which carry a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison…”

Deputy Inspector General of Lahore Police (DIG) Waqas Nazir said on Tuesday as many as 3,299 cases were registered against kidnapping during last year. However, at least 2,082 proved to be fake and were hence closed. Nazir continued that police identified a surge in the trend of filing fake kidnapping cases over the last few days in the provincial capital. Fake cases were registered either for vested interests or to take revenge.
In most of the cases of ‘kidnapping’, the alleged victims had left home of their own free will and later returned or were recovered from their close relatives.
Due to these fake cases, the precious time of the police and resources of the government were wasted, the DIG added. Furthermore, the investigation of actual cases was also disturbed and affected due to these fake cases.
A few years ago, an alarming number of cases of abduction of children were reported in Lahore. It became the talk of the town that an organised kidnappers’ gang had landed in the provincial metropolis. The belief at the time was that the kidnapped children were used for illegal organ transplantation and this spread much panic among the citizens.

Justice Tariq Saleem Shaikh issued the order while hearing an application filed by Javed Masih of Faisalabad against the illegal confinement of his 14-year-old daughter. Speaking outside the court, the girl said she had reached her parents’ home after managing to flee the house she was being kept in after ‘marriage’.
Masih, who was represented in the court by Advocate Chaudhry Abdul Rasheed, contended in his petition that some members of the Christian community had abducted his teenage daughter and later “sold her off” to a Muslim man named Zafar.
He said after forcibly converting the girl to Islam, Zafar ‘married’ the underage girl.
A conversion certificate obtained by DawnNewsTV stated that the girl had been renamed as Ayesha after ‘willingly’ converting to Islam on February 20, 2019.
The girl, however, when produced before the court today by Faisalabad police said that she had been abducted, sold, forcibly converted, and then forcibly married to a Muslim man.
She told the court that she wanted to live with her parents.
After hearing all parties, the court ordered that the teenage girl be given in the custody of her parents.”

“A motorist came close to being lynched by a group of migrants after hitting and killing a 61-year-old Ghanian man on Wednesday at Castel Volturno, near the southern city of Caserta, sources said.
The victim was crossing a highway on a bicycle outside a centre for migrants when he was hit by the driver, an Italian national who called the emergency services.
The police had to intervene to save the motorist after a menacing group of migrants, including friends of the dead man, gathered around him.

“Authorities have prevented 13 terror attacks planned on German soil in the last nine years, new figures revealed on Wednesday show.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which coordinates state and nationwide police investigations in Germany, the attacks prevented since 2010 are linked to Islamic extremism.
At least five of the 13 incidents were planned to take place in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), the Rheinische Post reported Wednesday. These included a planned 2011 bomb attack and a firearm attack in the state capital of Düsseldorf by the so-called Düsseldorf Cell.
The figures also include the failed bomb attack at Bonn Central Station in 2012 and the thwarted attack on the chairman of the Pro NRW party (a far-right political party in NRW) as well as a case in Cologne last year.
Other planned attacks in Chemnitz, Ludwigshafen, Schwerin, Lower Saxony, Karlsruhe and in the Frankfurt area were also prevented. In addition, targeted attacks on Bundeswehr (army) soldiers in 2016 and 2017 were also foiled by authorities.
It came as police launched a nationwide operation on Wednesday morning, searching around 90 properties in nine federal states, DPA reported. The raids are in connection with organizations being suspected of financing the terrorist group Hamas.
The searches were taking place in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig-Holstein.
Suspects being monitored
A group of six men from Tajikistan are currently at the top of the list of suspects being monitored by the security authorities, RP Online reported. They are part of the group of 11 who were arrested at the end of March as part of an anti-terror operation in North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.
They are being investigated on suspicion of preparation for a serious act of violence that would endanger the state. However, the authorities have so far lacked concrete evidence so the men are at large, but are being observed by officials.
According to the BKA, in addition to the prevented attacks, there have also been other anti-terror operations, but further information could not be disclosed for tactical reasons.
