Contributor’s Links post for January 7th, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

      • I haven’t finished part one yet but at roughly the half way mark on part one there are a lot of things in common with the Yellow Vest revolt. When I finish part one I will go back to part two, the point where I stopped to get part one 4:33 is taking about how the Kings Advisors were acting like Macron and his people.

      • At the end of part two a woman says that since 1381 no British Government has ignored the desires of the people. She said this in 2018, once again the British Government is ignoreing the will of the people, hopefully this time the rebels will win.

  1. In her 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to criticisms of her “fuzzy” math by saying people are people “more concerned” with being accurate on facts than being morally right.

“One of the criticisms of you is that your math is fuzzy. The Washington Post recently awarded with you four Pinocchios for misstating some statistics about Pentagon spending.” Cooper explained to Ocasio-Cortez.

“If people really want to blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue they are missing the forest for the tree,” she replied. “I think there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.”

“We must rethink how we assess writing, if we want to address the racism.”

American University faculty will be instructed at a seminar next month against giving students grades because the practice supposedly promotes “White language supremacy.”

The Feb. 1 seminar will be held on the university’s Washington, DC campus and will be open to all faculty members, ?according to the online description. Participants will be urged to do away with “conventional standards” for grading writing, which are allegedly discriminatory, in favor of “antiracist writing assessment practices,” the website explained.

There will be a main session, titled “The Language Standards That Kill Our Students: Grading Ain’t Just Grading,” along with three “breakout sessions.”

One breakout session, recommended for teachers of writing courses, is said to focus on replacing traditional “labor-based” grading with “assessment ecologies.” Another, for teachers of graduate courses, will focus on two specific alternatives, which “acknowledge the diverse range of readers in any classroom.” The final session, meant for those in first-year classrooms, will discuss “White racial habits of language.”

    https://www.pluralist.com/posts/2273-college-professors-told-to-stop-giving-grades-because-it-promotes-white-supremacy?fbclid=IwAR0hKm61Y8_tt6AJnOBCxUxGBgoc_NSyWjMDAj2s4W2bHV0yvPABm0eJLQo

    • One thing the communists always do is coarsen the language, destroying the rules of proper grammar, this is done to level the playing field because otherwise the people with a good education would have an advantage. In Cambodia Pol Pot went so far to execute everyone wearing glasses working on the theory that reading is what made them need glasses.

      • One thing the communists always do is coarsen the language, destroying the rules of proper grammar, this is done to level the playing field because otherwise the people with a good education would have an advantage.

Too right, Richard! In America, the prototype of this “leveling” was elimination of academic tracking with learning speeds and the adoption of “social promotion” (i.e., no longer holding severe under-performers back a grade). Attempts to enshrine “Ebonics” in ghetto schools and this latest mentality of “everybody wins!” (even the losers get a prize) epitomize Leftist efforts to attain, not just equal opportunity but, equality of outcome.

Once again, it’s time to cite Gerald Ford’s uncharacteristically prescient indictment of the Nanny State:

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

This anti-evolutionary Statist-driven “equalization” seeks to map “equality in the eyes of the law” onto a totally idealistic—yet completely nonexistent (i.e., absent in nature)—equality in terms of physical ability or genuine talent. This perversion of “All men are created equal”, into an attitude that all humans are interchangeable, is a mandatory precursor before Communism (or even just Socialism) can take root.

That supposed interchangeability—the newest darling of Globalist HR corporate dogma—is a direct byproduct of how moral and cultural relativism attempt to forcibly equalize all creeds and cultures. This is the only means by which EU bureaucrats have any hope of fooling themselves into believing that incorrigible Nafri criminals will magically metamorphose into well behaved, happy-clappy Socialists.

It’s long overdue to start making a list of parallels between Communism and Islam. Aside from both being politically based pseudo-religious cults, there also manifests in them a common thread of vandalism and defacement.

Whether such mutilation be of the genital, artistic, architectural or linguistic variety—in this routine disfiguring of any threatening entities around them—either group displays an urgency that is more commonly associated with gestating mothers after their 41st week.

TLDR? It’s called “Fouling the Nest”, something that Islam and Communism are past masters at.

PS: Commies take very seriously that schtick about:

Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

A single glance at Soviet-era architecture proves this.

    • American University faculty will be instructed at a seminar next month against giving students grades because the practice supposedly promotes “White language supremacy.”

Let’s just get this endless melodrama done with and all agree that:

Having any productive role, meaningful involvement or interaction with Western Civilization involves (if not outright requires) “Acting White”.

All better? Such disambiguation sure tends to clear the mind.

Let minorities hate the achievements of Caucasians all that they want to (as if they don’t already). Face it, exploits like multiple successful round-trip manned lunar missions along with generally setting the tempo of modern technological reality essentially represents a standing rebuke to every other less-accomplished culture.

All that their ignorant animus towards the West gets them is self-exclusion plus justifiable restrictions of numerous opportunities for learning, assimilating, and earning. Rest assured that Democrats watch over this incubator of professionally aggrieved and perpetually embittered Identity Politics like doctors normally would look after a lobster-weight preemie.

  3. Tortured dissident who won £500,000 from Britain for its role in his rendition in 2004 is wanted ‘for terror attacks on oil terminals and an airbase’ in Libya (dailymail, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6562895/Tortured-dissident-won-500-000-UK-role-rendition-wanted-terror-attacks.html

“War-torn Libya has issued an arrest warrant for a dissident given £500,000 by the British government for its role in his rendition.

Adbel Hakim Belhaj is wanted over his alleged involvement in terror attacks on oil terminals and on an airbase in southern Libya.

Mr Belhaj, who leads the country’s pro-Islamist Watan Party, is the most prominent figure among dozens wanted by the attorney general’s office in Tripoli.

He denied the allegations against him, which centre on reports that Sudanese and Chadian mercenaries were paid to create chaos in Libya. And he claimed the warrant was ‘a plot by those in control of security in Tripoli to distance me from the political scene’.

Libya descended into civil war following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 and its UN-backed government in Tripoli is struggling to exert authority.

Mr Belhaj, who was the leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, which was allied to al Qaeda and the Taliban, received an apology from Theresa May last year for Britain’s role in his rendition and that of his pregnant wife.

He said the CIA abducted them in Thailand and handed them to the Gaddafi regime – where he was tortured – following a tip-off from British intelligence.

Belhaj spent six years taking legal action in UK courts against British officials, including former foreign secretary Jack Straw.

After the fall of Gaddafi, he branched out into business but is still seen as a controversial figure that threatens to disrupt the government in Tripoli.”

  4. Twenty police cars move out to tame Allahu akbar man in Hamburg, Germany+++
The police describe the incident in politically correct official German:

In the early afternoon of Friday there was a major police operation at Steintorplatz when a man who resisted the police measures during his inspection asked numerous bystanders to support him. The man was introduced to a medical officer.Civil investigators of the police station 11 became aware of the man early Friday afternoon, because he screamed loudly and aggressively at Steintorplatz and gesticulated towards the sky. He is said to have articulated several statements of religious background. The crew of a called patrol car should check the man. However, he ignored the officers and raised his arms again and again. In the further course of his life he resisted the police measures and fought so hard that the officers fell to the ground with him. With the support of other officials, the police finally managed to handcuff the man. He is a 31-year-old German born in Turkey.During the police operation a higher two-digit number of passers-by gathered, who at first stood very close to the intervening officers and whom the man tried to call for his support.Further alarmed police forces separated the bystanders from the scene. The man was later taken to Police Commissariat 11 and later presented to an official doctor. The doctor ordered him to be admitted to a psychiatric ward of a hospital. The 44-year-old officer was injured at one knee when she fell with the man and his resistance. She was treated as an outpatient in a hospital and was unable to continue her duties afterwards. A total of almost 20 police patrol cars were involved in the operation.

  5. Germany: Algerians lock themselves in a train toilet, resist the police and obstruct the departure of the train — the railway line had to be closed for 30 minutes+++
On Saturday morning at about 01.30 a.m., federal police officers were called to a mission in the train ready for departure at Neumünster station. A group of five people had locked themselves in the train toilet because they had no tickets for the train journey. There they had pressed the emergency button. Since the group was to be excluded from the continuation of the journey, the deployed federal police officers asked the men to the platform. There was a loud verbal argument between the men and the federal police. The state police were called in for support. Two men escaped from the station, a local search was unsuccessful. A 22-year-old Algerian stood out particularly: he jumped into the track bed and sat under the train, thus preventing the regional express from leaving. The federal police took the man out of the danger zone, and the Algerian actively resisted. After 30 minutes, the closing of the track could be lifted and the train could leave. The Algerian is now awaiting criminal proceedings for resistance against enforcement officers. The federal police are investigating whether further crimes have been committed.

I’ll abbreviate my previous views on this and merely observe that: Seeing as how Neumünster Station handles ICE transcontinental rail traffic—and given the precision with which German trains run—that wee half-hour delay probably had ripple effects to the tune of €100k to €1MM.

  6. Tehran Ridicules Trump’s Claim of Iran Seeking Talks as ‘Unattainable Dreams’ (sputniknews, jan 7, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201901071071271544-trump-iran-talks/

“Speaking to reporters at the White House on 6 January, President Donald Trump claimed that Iran was not doing well and wanted to hold talks with the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi has flatly rejected Donald Trump’s claims that Tehran had sought talks with Washington, saying that the US president was only giving voice to his “false and unattainable dreams”.

“He knows that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been faced and familiar with American pressures and sanction policies for decades”, Qassemi said, adding that Trump’s “dreams have nothing to do with the existing realities”.

The ministry spokesman said that POTUS “should know that the Iranian nation will never bow to the oppressive US pressures, least of all to the rulers who choose sanctions over respect and walls over bridges”.

“Throughout their turbulent but proud history, Iranians have learned how to resist expansionists and bullies and defeat those hostile to Iran”, he added.

Qassemi’s comments were made in response to Trump’s Sunday claims that the Iranian economy had been badly damaged due to US sanctions.

“They [Iran] are not doing well. They want to talk [with the US]”, Trump told reporters at the White House.

Relations between the two countries deteriorated last May after Trump announced Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, under which anti-Iran sanctions were lifted in exchange for Tehran maintaining the peaceful nature of its nuclear programme.

As part of his decision, Trump re-imposed all sanctions and introduced new restrictions on Iran’s energy, shipping, financial and other sectors, with a stated goal to reduce the country’s oil exports to zero.

The US president threatened to slap foreign companies doing business with Iran with secondary sanctions, but granted a handful of nations — China, India, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Taiwan — temporary waivers, allowing them to continue buying Iranian oil if they make substantial cuts to their purchases.

In response, Iran has repeatedly warned the US against any hostile or provocative actions, threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf and the strategic waterway linking Middle East crude producers to crucial world markets.”

  8. Ex-Syria Fighter on Trial for Jewish Museum Killing Spree (breitbart, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/01/07/ex-syria-fighter-on-trial-for-jewish-museum-killing-spree/

“Mehdi Nemmouche stands accused of carrying out Europe’s first attack by an Islamist fighter returning from the war in Syria.

But his journey from a French foster home to a Brussels court began not in a Middle Eastern desert but in a run-down industrial town.

This week, he will go on trial for four anti-Semitic murders during a shooting spree at Belgium’s Jewish Museum.

Separately, he is also accused of acting as the jailer of four French journalists taken hostage by jihadists in Aleppo in 2013.

The trial will last several weeks, but the 33-year-old is already a case study in the radicalisation of some young European Muslims.

Belgium and France, in particular, fear the defeat of groups like the Islamic State in Syria will send more angry young men homewards.

But Nemmouche seems to have been on a radical path long before he set off, in early 2013, for the so-called “caliphate” on the Euphrates.

The investigation into the May 2014 massacre in the museum has pieced together elements of his background.

    Troubled and angry youth

Nemmouche was born April 17, 1985, in the northern French town of Roubaix, to a family of Algerian origin.

He never knew his father and his mother was judged not “capable” of raising him, investigators say.

Aged only three months, he was moved to a foster family in the northern industrial city of Lille, where he would stay — off and on — until he was 16.

But his upbringing was not stable. He would make difficult trips to stay with his grandparents, and sometimes to care homes or a Parisian orphanage.

His foster parents, in documents seen by AFP, describe him as an “angry” youth, “capable of the worst as well as the most kindly” acts.

He committed his first known crime at 13, then at 16, he spent three weeks in a juvenile prison for a hold-up with an air pistol after being convicted by a children’s court.

His criminal record grew ever longer in his late teens, with traffic offences and muggings, and his grandmother lost track of him after his second jail term.

In 2007, aged 22, he headed to Provence in southern France after gaining a vocational qualification as an electrician, but soon fell back into trouble.

“What an enormous waste,” his former lawyer Soulifa Badaoui said after the museum murders, lamenting the fact that the authorities had not helped Nemmouche integrate.

“No one knew what to do with an intelligent, lively young man who wanted to get out, become an ordinary French citizen,” she told AFP.

    ‘Strict and violent’

Between December 2007 and December 2012, he spent five years in custody — and investigators believe this is when his ideas hardened.

In prison, he was known as an “extremist proselytiser” who tried to organise group prayer and spoke of jihad and the 1995 “genocide of Muslims in Bosnia”.

This linked him to the “Roubaix gang” — French Islamists who returned from the Bosnian war and carried out robberies to fund Al-Qaeda, some of whom he knew.

When his grandmother saw him in Tourcoing in December 2012, he had a long beard and was praying daily, something she had not seen before.

Less is known about his experiences in Syria, but three former French hostages have identified him as their “strict and violent” overseer.

They say he did not hide his admiration for Mohammed Merah, who murdered three French soldiers, a Jewish teacher and three young children in 2012.

Nemmouche, who was extradited to Belgium over the museum shooting after being arrested in Marseille, will go on trial in France over the hostages at a later date.

Held under tight security at a prison in Leuze-en-Hainaut, his lawyers describe him as a man of “steely will” who was bearing up well under incarceration.

“When he greets me with a warm, relaxed smile it’s as if we’re not in prison,” defence counsel Francis Vuillemin told AFP. “The walls seem to slip off him.””

  9. U.S. destroyer sails in disputed South China Sea amid trade talks

BEIJING (Reuters) – A U.S. guided-missile destroyer sailed near disputed islands in the South China Sea in what China called a “provocation” as U.S. officials joined talks in Beijing during a truce in a bitter trade war.

The USS McCampbell carried out a “freedom of navigation” operation, sailing within 12 nautical miles of the Paracel Island chain, “to challenge excessive maritime claims”, Pacific Fleet spokeswoman Rachel McMarr said in an emailed statement.

The operation was not about any one country or to make a political statement, McMarr said.

    https://www.oann.com/u-s-navy-ship-sails-in-disputed-south-china-sea-amid-trade-talks-with-beijing/

    • I would love to think that the Chinese are bluffing with all of their war talk, the problem is we can’t take the chance they are bluffing. China wants to take over the entire South China Sea for both military and economic reasons, and with the Dems resisting everything President Trump is doing they may think they can force us to pull back because the Dems may back China and not the US.

        • So are a lot of Dems in Congress, the problem for them is that if China attacks Taiwan a US law passed in the 70s or 80s requires us to go to war against China. The attack would create a national emergency which would open up a lot of new powers for Trump. It would also limit what Congress can do to stop him and what the Courts can do to stop him. This would let him take out the invasion force, the bases they came from, the artificial islands and the underground port they are using for their subs. Since 90% of the Chinese population is in 6 cities it is highly unlikely they will start throwing nukes. Either they start throwing nukes and lose 90% of their population or they lose the war and the Communist government collapses. They know this a lot better then I do and they are rational enough to avoid that future.

  10. Broken Britain: 2018 Acid Attack Victims Aged 11 to 72 in Cambridgeshire (breitbart, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/01/07/broken-britain-2018-acid-attack-victims-aged-11-to-72-in-cambridgeshire/

“Acid attackers targetted victims including an 11-year-old child and a 72-year-old pensioner in the first few months of 2018 in Cambridgeshire, hitherto more famous for its university colleges and cathedrals than violent crime.

The handsome English county suffered a number of gruesome attacks between January and May 2018, according to Cambridgeshire Live, citing statistics uncovered through the Freedom of Information Act.

“We take acid attacks very seriously because they can often have a devastating effect on victims, particularly if they are young or otherwise vulnerable,” said a spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police — although they also claimed it was “important to note” that such attacks are “still very rare”.

This is certainly true if the numbers are compared to multicultural urban centres such as London, under Mayor Sadiq Khan, where such attacks now occur with frightening regularity — and police have even been issued with equipment designed for war zones to treat victims more efficiently.

However, the Cambridgeshire figures show nine people were victimised in the county between January and May 2018, compared to a total of 30 between 2012 and 2017 — suggesting a long-term increase in attacks.

Across the country, an average of 15 acid attacks a week are carried out, with three-quarters taking place in London.

A slim majority of acid attacks in Cambridgeshire between 2012 and 2017 were inflicted on women, which on the surface would appear to be in line with the conventional view of victims as women from non-European “honour” cultures being punished for perceived social transgressions.

The United Kingdom goes against the grain in this respect, however, with victims predominantly male and perpetrators skewing disproportionately but not exclusively non-white, and South Asians not particularly overrepresented.

Instead, acid appears to be a weapon of choice for armed robbers, home invaders, and gang members of all backgrounds in Britain’s high diversity, low social cohesion cities, being used to intimidate or disable with little concern for the serious, long-term injuries they can inflict.”

“Pope Francis has expressed concern over the rise of nationalism in the world, blaming the surge partly on globalization’s shortcomings.

Without citing countries or political parties, Francis on Monday also lamented national policies favoring “quick partisan consensus” over patient efforts for the common good.

In his annual speech to diplomats accredited to the Vatican, he noted worry in Europe and North America about migrants and consequent limits on their entrance across borders, including while in transit. Francis said “partial solutions can’t be given to such a universal question.”

He praised Colombia for accepting a large number of people fleeing Venezuela’s economic difficulties.

The pope voiced dismay Monday over long-running conflicts in Ukraine and in Syria, and praised dialogue between North and South Korea.

Francis also warned against an accelerating arms race.”

“A trial has started in Stockholm of three men suspected of preparing an extremist attack in Sweden.

Swedish Radio, quoting the prosecutor, said the men had gathered some 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of chemicals, knives, gas masks and military equipment, and photos of potentials targets in Stockholm were found on their cell phones.

They and three others are also accused of financing the Islamic State group in Syria. SR said the men — five Uzbeks and a citizen of Kyrgyzstan — communicated via closed chatrooms. The men lived legally in Sweden and have denied wrongdoing.

SR said there was no apparent link to Rakhmat Akilov, the Uzbek man behind the 2017 deadly Stockholm truck attack.

The trial is due to run until Feb. 11.”

Police spokesman Gijs van Nimwegen says officers were called to the consulate around 9 a.m. (0800 GMT) Monday to deal with reports of a self-immolation.

Van Nimwegen declined to confirm that the man set himself ablaze, saying that police do not give out details about cases of attempted suicide.

Nobody else was injured and Van Nimwegen says police did not increase security at the diplomatic post following the incident.

The identity and nationality of the man were not released.

The consulate could not immediately be reached for comment.”

  14. Somali mechanic becomes national icon after building ‘tank’

Supporting the idea of playing a constructive role in the development of his country, 27-year-old Somali mechanic Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, built a small tank-style vehicle and a sea bicycle, using just materials on hand. Footage from Mogadishu, shows Ali as he works on and tests his latest creations, on Friday and Saturday.

After moving to Mogadishu from his hometown of Marka, Ali worked as an operator at a ship routing between Somalia and the United Arab Emirates. In 2015 he quit his job and decided to become a mechanic. After learning the basics of mechanical engineering, Ali gave his creativity free rein, starting to design and produce his own vehicles.

“I tell the young Somalis – you can make factories and manufacture companies with your hands. If we stand united, we can really do extraordinary developments in our beloved homeland,” Ali said.

Being a father of three children, Ali claimed that he wanted to show the world that despite Somalia’s long civil war and devastation, the “consciousness” of the country’s people is still “alive.”

“And I also want to show the world we can build battle tanks as Russia did,” Ali said.

Attracted by his innovative thinking and courage, ordinary Somalis view him as an important national icon that can change the East African nation’s image that has been dubbed as a “failed state.”

“He is a person who should be encouraged and he is also someone who should be given a big support,” said a Mogadishu resident.

  16. Boulder, Colorado ‘assault weapons’ ban met with mass non-compliance

BOULDER, Colorado — Boulder’s newly enacted “assault weapons” ban is meeting with stiff resistance from its “gun-toting hippies,” staunch liberals who also happen to be devoted firearms owners.

Only 342 “assault weapons,” or semiautomatic rifles, were certified by Boulder police before the Dec. 31 deadline, meaning there could be thousands of residents in the scenic university town of 107,000 in violation of the sweeping gun-control ordinance.

“I would say the majority of people I’ve talked to just aren’t complying because most people see this as a registry,” said Lesley Hollywood, executive director of the Colorado Second Amendment group Rally for Our Rights. “Boulder actually has a very strong firearms community.”

The ordinance, approved by the city council unanimously, banned the possession and sale of “assault weapons,” defined as semiautomatic rifles with a pistol grip, folding stock, or ability to accept a detachable magazine. Semiautomatic pistols and shotguns are also included.

  17. Hillary Clinton said Left would ‘be civil again when they won House’: So what happened?
By Ben Bowles January 6, 2019

I am not too old to remember when the Left made a federal case — literally — over the confirmation to the Supreme Court of then-Judge Brett Kavanugh. Accusations of sexual misconduct decades earlier had been leveled by a woman who was vague about precisely when and where the alleged crime took place and could find no witness to corroborate her account. In spite of that, the Democrats insisted the woman was somehow “truthful” and proceeded to make the judge’s life into a living hell for a number of torturous weeks.

Around this time, former First Lady Hillary Clinton was interviewed by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour about the Kavanaugh kerfuffle, the president’s temperament, and civility in politics in general. Mindful of her fellow Democrats’ boorish behavior during the confirmation hearings and the months preceding, during which a member of the House openly encouraged a mob of protesters to harass cabinet members at public venues, Clinton said:

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/01/06/hillary-clinton-said-left-will-be-civil-again-when-they-win-house-so-what-happened/

Richard: No one with any brains expected the Dems to become civil after the election. The Dems idea of civility is for us to shut up and let the Dems do what they want, which is also their idea of bipartisanship.

  20. Germany: AfD logo in Berlin metro station prompts criticism

The Berlin public transport service (BVG) came under criticism on social media on Monday for failing to remove the logo of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party from the tiles of Berlin’s Westhafen metro station, which is believed to have been there since December 22.

The logo of the party – made by adhesive sheets on the station’s tiles – was put together next to a large quote from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Some passengers tweeted complaints on December 22, according to reports, but were met with no response from the BVG as of yet.

Due to the CCTV’s 48 hour filming cycle, the identity of the perpetrator has not been established.

This is Tucker’s latest rant. My brother worked for him for several years. Creative destruction is a business course that most want to resist. I disagree with that.
What I don’t disagree with is the Trump agenda.
    “Americans are drowning in stuff.”
I agree with that. Could you actually imagine someone without a cell phone, let alone a smart phone?
I don’t happen to own either!
When I retired in “97 I threw away that ardoise emblem or “overconnectiony” to the freedom of NOT being connected to the pathologies 24/7.
In 1997 I actually had a billionaire call me at 7 am to ask me why I booked a Sand
Diego scientist into his Trump Tower apartment. Why, I asked, because you asked me to do it!
So, this is just the insanity of very wealthy people. Carlson may rant but he, IMO, is also part of the problem (and to be clear, Mr. Carlson makes a very good living off his opposition politics that he doesn’t give a breath to when he disagrees with that position.) . After all, what is he paid to vomit this? We all know this already.

  22. A priest has been beaten up by two Syrians in Athens, Greek newspaper Proto Thema reports.

According to the newspaper, the incident took place outside the Sanctuary of St. Nicholas in Patisia, Athens.

When the priest was going to the Sanctuary he noticed that one motorcycle was illegally parked in the garden of the temple. After the priest complained to the Syrian owners about that, both the perpetrators started to punch him.

As a result of the sudden attack the priest was injured. Until now the Greek police have arrested one suspect.

Since the start of the migrant crisis Greece is one of the refugee hotspots in Europe. A lot of migrants are in camps on its island but others have moved to its cities.

  24. Note: Remember the story of the little black girl who was shot dead, and whose mother cried ‘racist attack’ and described the shooter as a white man in his 40’s driving a red pickup truck? Turns out it was a case of mistaken identity, and the shooters are black makes in their 20’s who were driving a black SUV… Here are some links:

A man has admitted to driving the vehicle from which Jazmine Barnes, 7, was fatally shot in Texas last week, according to a prosecutor at Harris County Probate Court.

Eric Black Jr. told officials he was driving the vehicle while another suspect, identified as Larry W., opened fire from the front seat at the vehicle Jazmine was riding in, the prosecutor said in court.

Black, 20, was arrested Saturday night in Texas and admitted to taking part in the shooting, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said. Officials have filed a capital murder charge against Black after he was identified based on a tip. He was being held without bail.

  25. The following is an English translation of a French article by Grégor Puppinck, posted at Le Figaro. Puppinck is a professor of law and head of the European Court of Law and Justice (ECLJ).

I should add that this English version is largely based on an English translation posted at the ECLJ, but I chose to amend and correct that translation in small ways. The basic meaning was not changed. Finally, that English version posted at ECLJ contains lines not present in the French text. Those have been retained here. I cannot explain why Le Figaro did not publish the complete French text.

The article focuses on the dangers of sharia law being accepted into the European justice system; primarily the danger of legal and moral chaos that will ensue from the co-existence of multiple legal systems within Europe. Because the European Court of Human Rights has been unable to muster the courage to strike down sharia as incompatible with Europe, Europeans may lose both democracy and human rights altogether.

  26. A national consultation in France, launched in response to protesters’ calls for more direct democracy, was denounced as having been “sabotaged” after citizens backed conservative policies.
Mainstream media networks over the weekend claimed the consultation had been “hijacked” by “militant conservative networks” after the initial results revealed a distinct lack of enthusiasm in France for progressive, globalist politics.

Journalist Vincent Glad, from the liberal-left newspaper Libération, highlighted that a proposal to repeal same-sex marriage had garnered the most approval, blasting the consultation as “a joke”.

“The ‘success’ of conservative motions is problematic,” complained state-owned France 24, noting that the other popular proposals included calls to scrap wind power subsidies and restore family allowances to middle-income couples with multiple children.

“For some, [the results] illustrate the dangers of Swiss-style direct democracy and the possible launch of a Citizen Initiated Referendum (RIC) demanded by many Yellow Vests,” it added, referring to a proposed initiative supported by 80 percent of the French public.

  27. The Dan Bongino Show

Ep. 888 The Democrats Are Descending into Madness

    https://bongino.com/ep-888-the-democrats-are-descending-into-madness/

Pay attention to this one, the first thing he is talking about is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and why she is dangerous, it is well worth listening to. She is the future of the Democrats and her ideas are what is going to dominate their party for a long time. The only good thing about this is that she and others of her ilk is that they will scare people away from the Dems and they will do one of the following 1) set out the 2020 election, 2) split off and form another political party or 3) hold their noses and vote Repub because they are scared of what people like Ocasio-Cortez will do if/when they take control of the White House.

The above is why the following is so important.

If she is still so sick she can’t hear arguments the odds are that her health will force her to retire sometime this year. This will give Trump a 3rd pick for the Court which will give us a 6-3 court with 5 solid Conservatives and one that switches sides at times. Also in a second term there is a better then even chance that the other old liberal on the Court will be forced tor retire or die, this would cement the Conservative control of SCOTUS for 20 to 30 years.

Ginsburg to miss Supreme Court arguments for first time ever

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Monday was unable to attend oral arguments for the first time in her more than two decades on the Supreme Court.

  28. DAILY MAIL – Belgium bans halal and kosher slaughter methods which see animals killed without being stunned first

Flanders, northern Belgium, bans un-stunned halal and kosher slaughter
Animals must now be stunned before their throats are cut in religious ritual
Jewish and Muslim groups say it violates EU law of freedom of religion

A Belgian region has banned halal and kosher slaughter unless the animal is stunned before it is killed, despite critics saying it violates freedom of religion.

The northern region of Flanders is the first in Belgium to implement the ban, followed by the southern region of Wallonia in September.

When proposed, the law was slammed as ‘the greatest assault on Jewish religious rights since Nazi occupation’ by the European Jewish Congress.

Under the new law, animals will have to be stunned electrically before being killed, which most animal rights campaigners say is more humane than the halal and kosher rituals.

Several countries including Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and New Zealand already prohibit un-stunned slaughter.

One of the great myths of gun control is that the sensible Europeans adopted gun control and eliminated crime. The reality is that murder rates and crime rates in many parts of Europe, such as the UK, remain quite high. And guns are easily accessible to criminals.

As the Islamic terrorist attacks in France and Brussels have shown.

Law abiding citizens have trouble obtaining firearms. But more Europeans are trying to get guns. Especially after an outbreak of Muslim violence.

  31. Escape from Portland
Unarmed cops, an 18% murder rise, and vigilante justice.
    January 7, 2019
    Daniel Greenfield

It was a big year in Portland where the murder rate rose 18.6%. That was the perfect time for Portland’s progressive politburo to spend over $1 million on unarmed cops armed only with pepper spray.

There was a little bit of excitement when it was learned that their 200 hours of training would include “Taser Orientation” suggesting that they might be allowed to carry tasers. But Mayor Wheeler’s office explained that the weaponless cops weren’t being trained to use tasers, but “how to avoid being tased”.

Portlanders aren’t waiting for officers to show up and shout, “Don’t tase me, bro”. Instead in a city overrun with crime, they’re increasingly taking matters and guns into their hands.

Of the 32 violent deaths in Portland last year, 5 were found to have been carried out in self-defense. That tops the 4 deaths that occurred as a result of shootings by those cops who still have their guns.

Richard R. Hanley showed up in the parking lot outside Timeless Tattoo. The California homeless bum had previously made the news when he was arrested for attacking his ex-girlfriend and her new beau with a metal chain. Hanley, already on probation for a domestic abuse and strangulation conviction, with six felony and seven misdemeanor priors, also pulled out huge clumps of a female deputy’s hair.
