CNN broke the news, followed soon after by an NBC News report that a man “has been taken into custody for questioning.” Both reports cited unnamed law-enforcement sources.
Sarah Isgur Flores, director of public affairs at the Department of Justice, confirmed the news on Twitter: “We can confirm one person is in custody,” Flores tweeted.
She said there will be a press conference at 2:30 p.m.
The suspect’s identity and his role in the plot remain unclear.
It was also not immediately clear where in the state the person was arrested. Earlier reports had indicated the investigation was focusing on South Florida, including a USPS facility in Opa-locka.
The packages — described as similar in appearance and design to pipe bombs — were addressed to former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

Trump says ‘Americans must unify’ after Florida man arrested in bomb plot targeting Democrats
President Donald Trump on Friday called on Americans to come together shortly after a Florida man was arrested in connection with a dozen mail bombs sent to an array of the president’s public foils.
“We must show the world that we are united together in peace and love and harmony as fellow American citizens,” Trump said.
Cesar Sayoc, 56, of Aventura, Florida, was taken into custody earlier in the day and is expected to face federal criminal charges in the matter, according to NBC News.

The guy is a Trump supporter.
What I think happened: After all the anti-Trump hate and violent rhetoric we are subjected to 24/7 by CNN and the DEMS, the guy snapped.
I was on the verge of total breakdown two years ago because of all the hate spewed by CNN.
What I did to save myself: I replace my cable package with the basic one, had CNN removed and added FNN that I pay $4/month.
The evil spirits that had invaded my home disappeared.
Therefore, it’s my opinion that CNN drove him batty.
