  1. Note: more media deception on creepy porn lawyer:

Michael Avenatti told Time Magazine it would be “better” if Democrats nominated “a white male” for president in 2020, and Time covered up that quote for four months.
In June — June! — Avenatti told Time of the Democrats’ 2020 nominee, “I think it better be a white male. When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight. … Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes.”

He added, “So I do think it is a critical mistake for anyone other than a white male to lead the top of the ticket in 2020. And I wish I didn’t have to say that. I wish it was different. But it’s not, in my view.”

Avenatti is himself a white male eager to run for president in 2020.

Obviously, what Avenatti said is both obscene and flat-out wrong.

  2. Journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, said she declined President Trump’s invitation to the White House.

Cengiz told Turkish TV, according to the BBC, that she would not accept the invitation because she feels that Trump is being insincere in the investigation into Khashoggi’s death, adding that she believes the invitation was extended because he wants to influence public opinion.

  3. Suspect arrested in connection with bomb threats
By LU Staff October 26, 2018

The New York Times and other media sources are reporting that an arrest has been “in connection with the nationwide bombing campaign against outspoken critics of President Trump.”

The suspect is identified as Cesar Sayoc, 56, of Aventura, Fla., who is said to have a criminal history and ties to the New York area. So far, no charges have been filed.

So what led authorities this suspect?

  4. If the bomber is truly a Trump supporter, why does he persist in sending out dud after dud?
By Howard Portnoy October 26, 2018

Today, an eleventh suspicious package was intercepted by authorities, followed soon after by a twelfth. The packages were addressed, respectively, to Sen. Kamala Harris and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Both packages were similar and appearance to the previous ten. Both were manila envelopes to which were affixed labels printed in capital letters using the same now-familiar sans-serif font. Inside each was the same amateurish-looking pipe bomb.

The news reports failed to specify whether these latest bombs were duds, but at this point any reasonable person who has followed the developments of the past several days would be surprised if they weren’t.

All of which brings me to the title question: Why would a supporter of the president go through the same motions twelve separate times, following a very distinct pattern, if his goal was to do genuine harm to the president’s most vocal opponents? And if that is not the goal, then what is it? If it is to “send a message” to Democrats, as some on the Left have speculated, then why do this on successive days?

Finally, carrying out these threats so close to Election Day can only serve to win sympathy for Democrats.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2018/10/26/if-the-bomber-is-truly-a-trump-supporter-why-does-he-persist-in-sending-out-one-dud-after-another/

    • Good question, one that will be ask by many people and most will reach the conclusion that some Dems found a Trump Supporter they could talk into doing this and thus gain votes for the Dems. This action would fit in the pattern of Dem violence against Repubs and this will give them an excuse for getting more violent after the election when they either don’t win much if anything or don’t win enough to let them impeach Donald Trump and the Judges he has appointed.

  5. GULF of ADEN — Arms experts from the U.N. boarded a U.S. Navy ship here Thursday to investigate whether more than 2,500 AK-47 assault rifles that U.S. sailors seized from a small boat off the coast of Somalia were en route to Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

The U.S. suspects the rifles were bound from Somalia to Yemen to aid the Houthis in the nation’s three-year-old civil war, and that Iran was involved.

On Aug. 27, a helicopter from the USS Jason Dunham, a guided missile destroyer, was sent to monitor the suspicious activities of two boats in the Gulf, a dhow and a small skiff. While overhead during the dark of night, the helicopter took video of the men on the boats moving cargo from the dhow to the skiff, according to U.S. military officials.

  6. Polish President Slams German Media Censorship After Being Questioned on Press Freedom (breitbart, Oct 26, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/10/26/polish-president-slams-german-media-being-questioned-polish-press-freedom/

“Polish President Andrzej Duda slammed German press after being asked about Polish freedom, apparently citing the lack of immediate reporting of the Cologne New Year’s Eve sex attacks of 2015.

The Polish president, who sat next to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a press Q&A earlier this week, was asked about freedom of the press in Poland by a journalist questioning why Polish state radio had not reported the European Union decision to halt Polish judicial reform.

Claiming he had not heard the radio broadcast in question, President Duda went on to add: “I do not influence what media reports on in Poland.”

“In Poland, it works in such a way that if a woman or group of women are raped that you can be sure the media would immediately report about it with all the details we have at that moment. So we definitely have a free press in Poland,” he added to some applause from members of the audience.

The comment likely refers to German reporting of the Cologne migrant sex attacks that occurred over New Year’s Eve in 2015 which took German media several days to report…”

  7. Globalist Macron Lectures Pro-Sovereignty Visegrad Nations to Fall into Line with EU (breitbart, Oct 26, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/10/26/globalist-macron-lectures-pro-sovereignty-visegrad-nations-to-fall-into-line-with-eu/

“The globalist French President Emmanuel Macron has lectured Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, telling them to fall into line with the European Union on migrant solidarity and “fundamental values”.

President Macron launched his two-day tour of Slovakia and the Czech Republic Friday by giving interviews to press from all four Visegrád nations to remind them that the “European Union is not a supermarket” where members can reject aspects of policy that conflict with their home interests.

Speaking to Hungary’s hvg.hu, President Macron told them that the EU “has a common destiny” where there can be no “East-West debate”.

“I continue to maintain this. This expectation applies to everyone. First of all, to honour our fundamental values,” Macron said, adding that those shared “humanist” values “confer personal freedom, shared responsibility and cultural diversity all at the same human level”.

Notably, the French President singled out Hungary for censure saying that “The situation of the rule of law in Hungary is worrying,” after the country introduced laws intended to halt the promotion and support of illegal migration, laws which impact the endeavours of pro-mass migration civil society groups.

On the Czech Republic, headed by populist open-borders-sceptic Andrej Babiš, he offered a veiled threat that “No state can afford to hinder those who want to move further and faster” after the country rejected the notion of a common Eurozone budget.

“I believe in Europe’s open aspirations. And I am convinced that the Czech Republic wants to be in the heart of this progressive and protective Europe.”

Speaking to Poland’s Rzeczpospolita, he added that access to the bloc’s budget could depend on whether a nation shows sufficient “solidarity” by accepting illegal migrants and asylum seekers from the Global South.

“You can not use the European budget without a solidarity approach, for example to migration,” he said.

Claiming that the EU gives nations sovereignty rather than take it away, he added: “If we want to kill Europe, let’s do it. Europe is not one-way: it is a mutual obligation that does not limits one’s sovereignty, but actually increases it.”

Macron also singled out Poland for criticism, after the European Court of Justice ordered the country last week to stop applications of the law lowering the retirement age of judges from 70 to 65, which Poland says makes the court more efficient and are part of wider judicial reforms to clear out remnants of its Communist past.

“I would like to believe that the Polish government will take the necessary steps to respond to the concerns of the Commission and its partners. If this is not the case, we will continue to protect the rule of law. But there is still time to make the necessary changes to respect our values and our common principles,” Macron said Friday.

The Europhile has been at odds with the Visegrád group, mostly with Hungary and Poland, over adherence to the bloc’s “fundamental values” and mass migration policies.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Italy’s populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini call out Macron as “the leader of pro-migration parties in Europe today” ahead of May 2019’s European Parliament elections which has seen Macron begin a grand tour of the continent to promote the values of the European Project and drum up support for federalist, progressive candidates.

Macron responded by saying that France is “an enemy of nationalism” and “if they want to see me as their chief adversary, they are right.””

The office said in a statement Friday that Netanyahu had been invited by Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said after lengthy communications.

Israel and Oman do not have diplomatic relations. The meeting was the first between leaders of the two countries since 1996. Former Israeli premier Yitzhak Rabin made a similar surprise visit to Oman two years earlier in 1994.

  9. Germany: Seven Muslim migrants gang-rape 18-year-old girl in front of a disco
OCT 26, 2018 10:52 AM BY ROBERT SPENCER 18 COMMENTS
Why does this keep happening? One survivor of a Muslim rape gang in the UK said that her rapists would quote Quran to her, and believed their actions justified by Islam.

The Qur’an teaches that Infidel women can be lawfully taken for sexual use (cf. its allowance for a man to take “captives of the right hand,” 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59) The implication there is that if women do not cover themselves adequately with their outer garments, they may be abused, and that such abuse would be justified.

  11. Package Deal
No bomber revealed, no explosions – but Dems and establishment media are on the warpath.
    October 26, 2018
    Lloyd Billingsley

This week suspicious, potentially explosive packages were sent to former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former vice president Joe Biden, former CIA boss John Brennan (via CNN), former DNC boss Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Maxine Waters, billionaire George Soros, and actor Robert De Niro. All the recipients are prominent Democrats.

A U.S. News report said investigators were “analyzing the mechanics of the crude devices to reveal whether they were intended to detonate or simply sow fear two weeks before Election Day.” The devices contained timers and batteries, but “were not rigged like a booby-trapped package bomb that would explode upon opening.” Investigators remained “uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never intended to cause physical harm,” and at least one device was mailed from Florida.

The package sent to Brennan contained an envelope with white powder that was not toxic. At this writing, none of the packages has exploded or caused any damage. Experts say the packages yield much forensic evidence, including DNA, skin flakes, and saliva. Cameras in the sending facilities may yield other information, but at this writing nobody knows what person, group or organization sent the devices.

  12. Non-Functioning Bombs and Double Standards
Endorsers of Antifa terror are suddenly outraged about non-exploding packages.
    October 26, 2018
    Matthew Vadum

Political terrorism is almost exclusively the province of the Left in America, so naturally, conservatives find the timing of the delivery of non-functioning, vaguely scary-looking replicas of letter bombs this week to opponents of President Trump suspicious to say the least.

Remember that the Democratic National Committee has officially endorsed the violent Black Lives Matter movement and that more than a few Democrats support the Antifa terrorist movement. Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 running-mate, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), whose son Woody is an Antifa terrorist, said recently that Democrats need to “fight in the streets” against Republicans.

Intended recipients of the packages include former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Eric Holder, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), Trump critic and actor Robert DeNiro, and leftist billionaire George Soros, CBS News reports.

Some of those targeted are the worst purveyors of violent rhetoric targeting Republicans.

    https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/271711/foreign-policy-moral-preening-bruce-thornton

The murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi regime insider and columnist, in Istanbul continues to dominate the news cycle as the president and Congress consider their response. Despite the dog-bites-man nature of the story–– autocrats and tyrants across the globe regularly eliminate political enemies without such intense outrage from the West–– our media and politicians have conducted an orgy of moral preening, thunderous denunciations, and various proposed punishments of Saudi heir to the throne Mohammed bin Salman.

Once again, the cheap idealism and hypocrisy of the self-righteous West illustrates the dangers that come from a foreign policy based on illusion rather than on the tragic reality of human nature and action.

Much of this outrage results from the fact that Khashoggi worked as a columnist for the Washington Post and possessed a green card. Ignoring the distinction between journalists who supposedly report facts, and an editorial page columnist who gives opinions, both progressive and conservative media have turned Khashoggi into a martyr of the Fourth Estate, an intrepid seeker of facts and watchdog of the public weal.

If you ask him about anything that happened since the 90s that doesn’t involve Fidel Castro or some tinpot Latin American Marxist dictatorship, he begins randomly making stuff up.

Like the time he accused Israel of killing 10,000 people in Gaza.

But Bernie is running for president. And like the rest of the lefty field, he’s contractually obligated to parrot the Iranian/Qatari propaganda about the war in Yemen.

  15. 14,000-Strong Caravan Invasion Headed to America
“No one will stop us, only God.”
    October 26, 2018
    Pedro Gonzalez

Among the signs carried by the northbound invasion, one in particular stands out: “Pueblos Sin Fronteras.” This is the name of a group that organizes the so-called migrant caravans, but it also doubles as the raison d’être of the mob itself. They are not marching north to become good little capitalist “Americans,” much less citizens of the United States. In fact, they hate capitalism, bellowing socialist chants of: “We are international workers!”

They do not march because they look fondly upon our country, its institutions, its values, or its culture. And, no, they are not “fleeing” the violence and poverty of the pueblo. Rather, what they want is to bring the pueblo to us. They are convinced that it is their manifest destiny to do so.

Americans tend to think only we put stock in our destiny, and we don’t like to think of ourselves as conquerable—and certainly not already conquered. But if we cannot control our borders, let alone have a say in who may live among us, what might we call that condition?

Who Are the 14,000 and Counting?
As it has done in so many other Western nations, neo-Marxist education has stripped us of our ability even to conceive of anyone other than ourselves as conquerors (which, ironically, is rather condescending and paternalistic!). We learn to see only the evil in ourselves, and the “good” in everyone else—even those who would destroy our civilization. No people but us hateful and sinful Americans has the capacity to carry out something so incorrigible as “manifest destiny” anyway.

  16. CALEXICO, Calif. — Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Friday unveiled the first completed border wall project that was constructed as a result of President Trump’s push to further secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Walls work, it’s not my opinion,” Nielsen said at the ceremony near downtown Calexico, a rural border town of approximately 38,000 residents. “It’s not a tag line. It’s a fact.”

Construction of the 30-foot, 2.5-mile-long wall began in February and lasted eight months. Nielsen watched as welders affixed a sign to the wall to commemorate the event. It’s now the tallest barrier on the entire 2,000-mile-long southwest border.

“Looking at this, I would not attempt to climb it,” Nielsen said.

  18. Some of the recent mail bombs were flawed, ‘not capable of exploding,’ investigators say *UPDATE*
By LU Staff October 25, 2018

[Update from Adam Housley in center text below. – LU Staff]

It probably won’t come as a surprise to those who have been following this story closely that investigators are now saying at least some of the “mail bombs” sent to high-profile Democrats were incapable of exploding.

According to multiple news sources, including NBC, AP, and Fox News, the “bombs” were constructed with missing elements that meant they could not actually explode. NBC and AP (cited by RedState here) both reported that this applied to some of the bombs, with others yet to be evaluated.

According to Adam Housley, none of the bombs was delivered capable of going off.

    Adam Housley

    @adamhousley

So here is the clarification on semantics on all this: the FBI Lab will@make the final call on all of these. So far the belief is that they all didn’t go off by design. They were all missing a couple of components.

So here is the clarification on semantics on all this: the FBI Lab will@make the final call on all of these. So far the belief is that they all didn’t go off by design. They were all missing a couple of components.

**UPDATE* As of Thursday night: Adam Housley says he is still hearing that every “bomb” was missing components needed to make it operational — but the bombs weren’t missing the same components.

    Adam Housley
    ?
    @adamhousley

Still being told every single bomb was missing components..not all the same missing parts

It doesn’t actually make sense for one bomber or a coordinated group of them all making the same kind of bomb to randomly leave out different components. It doesn’t make sense, that is, if the situation is to be accepted at face value, as an attempt by some group with the unified motive of intimidating Democrats. The emphasis in that case would be on the intimidation: appearing real and determined, and instilling fear. This just looks like a prank.

We’ll have to see what the official briefings say to know more.**

NBC put the update in these terms:

In some cases, the flaws were substantial. In others, more subtle, they said.

The news comes after investigators said the devices appeared poorly made and that it was unclear if they were hoaxes or simply cases of bad construction. Earlier in the investigation, officials in multiple states had described the items as live explosives and a number of senior bomb techs briefed on the probe said they had all the components necessary for successful explosions.

Bomb techs commenting on news shows can undoubtedly disagree on their assessments, especially if they haven’t personally examined the devices. But earlier on Thursday, LU contributor Joe Newby highlighted the extensive analysis of a former Navy bomb tech, Tom Sauer, who as Joe said “dismissed the ‘device’ [the one delivered to CNN] as ‘silly looking.”’

Sauer basically didn’t really take the “bomb” seriously. This seems, oddly enough, to fit the seeming sequence of events at CNN, in which someone apparently handled the “bomb” by removing it from its envelope and placing it on a desk, with non-professional photos then being taken of it and posted on Twitter. Without suggesting that it wasn’t a scary moment or a real concern, that’s not what we would normally expect people who are in deadly fear of a potential live bomb to do.

Joe also quoted a postal carrier who pointed out that the CNN package was suspicious on its face, and a U.S. Postal Service employee wouldn’t have simply delivered it to the addressee.

That makes it especially interesting that investigators have now zeroed in on one USPS processing facility in Opa-Locka, Florida, near Miami.

The Florida facility is a good place to start tracking down the perpetrator(s), of course. But if the average postal worker would have recognized the packages as suspicious, there may be another reason for a single facility to be implicated; i.e., an accomplice to the exploit within the postal system.

In the same vein, an update from ABC now says that all of the packages were mailed through the postal system. On Wednesday, it was being reported that at least two had been delivered by courier (the package addressed to John Brennan — erroneously — at CNN, and the package sent to George Soros). But the ABC update on Thursday indicates a changing story.

    ABC News
    ?
    @ABC

All 10 explosive devices sent to prominent Democrats and other public figures went through the U.S. postal system, sources say. https://abcn.ws/2ELNFgA
    4:31 PM – Oct 25, 2018

Journalist Sharyl Attkisson had another question about the devices being mailed.

    Sharyl Attkisson
    ?
    @SharylAttkisson

I’m just amazed that 6 forever stamps ($3.00) were enough to get these packages to their destinations. My packages always seem to cost a lot more! #TheRealNews #USPSRates

The devices look small, but it seems like a good question.

There are a number of things about this that don’t add up. But as we noted yesterday, the mainstream media have been busy assigning blame, and don’t seem to be taking time to analyze the actual information.

It’s a crime to send fake bombs as well as real ones. But evidence is beginning to suggest that this incident is a widespread bomb hoax, rather than an attempt at actually inflicting bodily harm or death on the recipients. And it seems to have required complicity somewhere inside the U.S. postal system.

Again, none of that is acceptable, and the perp(s) need to be brought to justice. But it does open the door much wider to a lot of possibilities for motive and intent.

Richard: This is the entire article but click through to give them more hits.

This article raises a lot of questions, most of which cast a lot of doubt about what is for the moment the official take on this/these terror attacks.

Questions: 1) Why are the bombs missing different components when all of them are suppose to be made by one person, for that matter why the different missing components if more then one person made the bombs?

    2) How did they get from Florida to the addressees if every postal employee questioned says the packages were suspicious?

    3) How did the packages get to the addressees when the postage isn’t enough to pay for the package?

    4) Why don’t the stamps have postmarks?

    5) Was there one or more people at the Post Office involved in this terror attack?

    6) Zan posted a video from wayback that shows the alleged bombers changing his politics from liberal Democrat to Conservative Republican, how does this tie in with the above questions?

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) Both Democrats and Republicans are currently holding their breath to see what unfolds following a series of suspicious packages, presumed to be explosive devices, delivered to left-wing targets.

CNN, which received one of the packages addressed to ex-CIA Director John Brennan—a former correspondent there—tweeted out a photo of the apparent bomb:

  19. Facebook purges dozens of Iran-linked accounts aimed at ‘sowing discord’ in US (mee, Oct 26, 2018)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/facebook-purges-dozens-iranian-accounts-aimed-sowing-discord-us-1890077719

“Facebook has taken down dozens of accounts it says were linked to an Iranian effort to influence US and British politics through posts about immigration and race relations, among other charged topics.

The social networking giant said on Friday that it had identified 82 pages, groups and accounts that originated in Iran and violated a policy on coordinated “inauthentic” behaviour.

The account owners tried to hide their identities by passing themselves off mostly as US citizens, and in a few cases as British citizens, said Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher.

Posts on the accounts or pages, which included some hosted by Facebook-owned Instagram, focused mostly on “sowing discord” via discussions on highly divisive issues, such as race relations, police brutality and US President Donald Trump…”

  20. 4th Desirée man nabbed in Foggia (ansa, Oct 26, 2018)

“The fourth man suspected in the gang rape and murder of Desirée Mariottini, a 32-year-old Ghanaian, was arrested Friday in Foggia.

Investigators said they were trying to establish what role he had in the death of the 16-year-old from Cisterna di Latina in Rome’s San Lorenzo district last week.

The Ghanaian was caught in possession of around 10 kg of marijuana, police said.

The drugs were found in the hut he was holed up in, in a shanty-town around a migrant centre at Borgo Mezzanotte.

The man, Yusif Salia, had a humanitarian stay permit that ran out in January 2014.

In March this year police took him to Rome’s immigration office to be identified.

On that occasion he was told to go to the Naples police HQ to get valid papers. Two Senegalese drug pushers and a Nigerian man have already been arrested in the case.

The Desirée case is no excuse for vigilante patrols in the drug-ridden and bohemian Roman district, Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi said Friday.

“Vigilante patrols are no use, but things like the control of the neighbourhood, which we are already trialling,” she said.

“A choral activity which hinges on citizens who supply information to support police,” she said. “I oppose all types of vision proposing the use of indiscriminate private force to solve public-order and social issues”.

Earlier this week Raggi banned alcohol from the streets of San Lorenzo from nine o’clock at night.

Lower House Speaker Roberto Fico meanwhile said “no to the bulldozers” invoked by hardline anti-migrant Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, “but love and social cohesion”.

Justice Minister Alfonso Bonafede said the government would weigh a new decree on violence against women.”

  21. Battling Salafism on Germany’s streets (DW, Oct 26, 2018)
    https://www.dw.com/en/battling-salafism-on-germanys-streets/a-45898250

“Saloua Mohammed’s most important tool in the fight against Salafism is listening – to parents whose kids radicalize online, to youth who rave about Salafism, and to women returning to Germany after fighting alongside IS.

“Let’s see who is going to win in the end, shall we?” social worker Saloua Mohammed says. “They won’t get my youths that easily.”

“They” are radical Salafists: Ultraconservative Muslims who interpret the Quran literally, live their faith the way it was common during the times of the prophet Muhammad and are looking for new followers. And this — the recruitment of young people into Salafism — is exactly what Mohammed wants to prevent.

Mohammed fights for each and every one of “her” children. She is a faithful Muslim herself, wearing a headscarf in public. She prays in the mosque, but sometimes walks into Cologne Cathedral to find peace. Mohammed comes from a liberal-leaning Moroccan family in which religion was discussed and tolerance taught. That, she says, provided her with arguments and a kind of intellectual protective armor. She has good use for both.

A social worker, she is in her mid-30s, lively and full of energy. When she talks her hands are almost constantly in motion. In addition to her job with the Catholic Church aid organization Caritas, she has been volunteering as a street worker in Bonn for years.

Bonn used to be the capital of West Germany and is considered a center of the Salafist movement in Germany’s most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, or NRW for short.

    Journalists not welcome

Mohammed works primarily with young people who have already been in contact with the Salafist scene. She talks to desperate parents, goes to schools or visits affected families at home.

We meet Mohammed in a cafe in downtown Bonn. She would have been willing to be accompanied by journalists when working with her clients. But none of her “problem kids” agreed to that. The topic is just too sensitive, Mohammed explains.

In 2013 she was awarded the Integration Prize of the City of Bonn for her social commitment. But there is criticism, too.

Sometimes she even has to deal with personal insults: “In the eyes of right-wing extremists, I am a terrorist who is supposed to, and I quote, ‘don a suicide-vest and blow herself up.'”

Salafists, on the other hand, call her a traitor. They deem Saloua Mohammed much too open and Western.

“For them I’m just a ‘Euro-Muslim,'” the street worker says, shrugging.

Mohammed is strong and able cope with hostility. For her, that comes with freedom of opinion, “a very important value in our society.” She says you simply have to live with the fact that there are people with different opinions out there.

It is much harder for her, though, to deal with criticism coming from people close to her. A number of friends fell away, she sadly remembers, because she was too liberal for them. Even though she was hurt, Mohammed is still convinced she’s doing the right thing. She says she feels German — German with a “migration background,” as it is referred to in the German language.

“I fully identify with my country,” Mohammed says.

When your child becomes a stranger

When youths radicalize, the whole family is often put to the test, Mohammed tells DW.

“The reactions differ a lot. Some parents literally disowned their children when they went to Syria to join the IS caliphate. Others fight desperately to bring their children back. They say: ‘I know my child. She wouldn’t want something like that, I didn’t raise her that way.'”

The Muslim street worker experiences a lot of despair during her assignments: Parents are literally sick with concern for their sons or daughters who have disappeared. On top of that, they find themselves ostracized and shunned because of their children’s religious radicalization.

“Sometimes neighbors or friends distance themselves and the family suddenly finds itself utterly alone,” Mohammed says.

    Listening, over and over again

Regardless at which point Mohammed meets “her” youths, her work is all about trust, help and respect, not judgement.

“Young people quickly realize whether or not you take them seriously,” she says. “I always tell them: ‘I don’t have to agree with what you say. But I am going to listen to you.’ Then we can talk and see if we can find some common ground.”

But Mohammed knows that radical Salafists have their own ways to bond with the youths. They talk to them about topics like discrimination or about the feeling of not belonging in Germany — problems that especially youths with a migration background often know from personal experience.

“The Salafists take a strategic approach: For example, they search for people with serious problems in their families. They check who could be a follower and who has what it takes to become a leader.”

    Online radicalization

Until two years ago, Salafist preachers were openly recruiting in Bonn. They even blatantly tried to find new followers in front of schools. But things have changed. Today, according to Mohammed, many teenagers radicalize at home, in front of their computers. The first contact often happens via Facebook or open chat forums with names like “Muslim Market” or “Islam House.” There, every newcomer is scanned for his attitude and seriousness, Mohammed says.

“The communication channels have developed further, because the pressure on Salafist structures has increased,” the street worker explains.

Only tested and approved newcomers are added to encrypted WhatsApp groups. There they get information on upcoming events, seminars or — in the case of women — “sister meetings.”

    A cry for attention

One case is very vivid in Mohammed’s memory, even though it happened some time ago. A very young girl she knew from her work in local Bonn schools was having trouble.

“One morning I got a call from her friends, who told me: ‘Saloua, she went underground. We don’t know where she is.’ Shortly before that, the girls had found out that she had met a much older man from the Salafist scene on Facebook and was planning to marry him.”

The girl ran away in the dark of night to meet with him. Fortunately, with the help of her parents and police, Mohammed managed to track her down and bring her back within a few hours. She then had long conversations with the girl.

“It turned out that she only did all this in order to bring her parents back together. They were splitting up and getting a divorce. She was acting out of sheer desperation.”

    Traumatized after ‘Islamic State’

More and more often, the street worker has to deal with returnees. These young women, inspired by their extreme religious beliefs, went to Syria and Iraq in order to live their dream of being part of the so-called Islamic State’s “caliphate.” More than anything else, Mohammed sees those women as highly traumatized people — who are starting to come back in considerable numbers.

“Some returnees describe their experience as sheer hell,” Mohammed says. “They have experienced violence. And quite often they were constantly on the run, all the while feeling there was no place where they would be safe.”

Some are so highly traumatized they just want to repress their experiences and prefer not to talk about them at all, the social worker says. In some cases, however, silence could also be an indication that the women still cling to IS ideology, Mohammed suspects.

Germany’s domestic security service, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, came to the same conclusion. According to the spy agency, many women returning to Germany are highly ideologized, radicalized and probably ready for violence. Many return directly into their old Salafist environment.

Figures from the latest official report of the domestic security service for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia point to the growing role of women in the radical Salafist scene: Only 12 percent of the 3,000 supporters of the Salafist scene in NRW are female. But with 28 percent, the number of women who left Germany to join the self-proclaimed Caliphate was more than double that.

    Much help needed

Mohammed has seen that returnees need a lot of help in all areas of life. One example she cites is that of dealing with bureaucracy when birth certificates or identity papers for children born in the “Islamic State” are missing.

“Then, of course, the officials say: ‘Sorry, without those papers we can do nothing at all.’ That causes a lot of frustration,” Mohammed says.

“On the other hand, it makes some of the women face the bitter truth and realize: ‘Okay, this might be part of the price I have to pay for my decision to join the Caliphate.’ Those are the people who reflect and are open to talk about their actions.”

In counselling, Mohammed experiences a broad spectrum of feelings among her clients:

“There is despair, hatred of everything and everyone, moments of remorse. But during the consultation process, we also reflect on achievements they reach after their return, no matter how small. That makes my heart rejoice.”

Returnees who completely shut themselves off very often are victims of violence, including sexualized violence, Mohammed explains.

    Returnees more vulnerable than ever

Saloua Mohammed is convinced that no matter in which state of mind the women come back to Germany, they should be closely supervised and guided. Being left alone with feelings of powerlessness and disappointment, without help for a new start in Germany would make these women susceptible to extremist influences again.

“It literally makes me sick, when I think about extremists intercepting and addressing those disappointed and disillusioned women at the right moment,” Mohammed says.

If that happens, she says, there’s a threat of even greater radicalization.”

  22. Europe’s Crisis of Survival

    by Giulio Meotti
    October 26, 2018 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13186/europe-crisis-survival

“The possibility that Europe will become a museum or a cultural amusement park for the nouveau riche of globalization is not completely out of the question.” This thought of Europe as a vast cultural theme park was presented by the late historian Walter Laqueur, who, for his far-sighted prognosis about Europe’s crisis, has been called “the indispensable pessimist.” Laqueur was one of the first to understand that the current deadlock in which the continent finds itself goes far beyond economics. The point is that the days of European strength are over. Because of low birth rates, Europe is dramatically shrinking. If current trends continue, Laqueur said, a hundred years from now Europe’s population “will be only a fraction of what it is today, and in two hundred, some countries may have disappeared.”

Sadly, the “death of Europe” is drawing nearer, is becoming more visible and is more frequently discussed by popular writers.

“At a time when literature is increasingly marginalized in public life, Michel Houellebecq offers a striking reminder that novelists can provide insights about society that pundits and experts miss,” the New York Times wrote about arguably the most important French author. Houellebecq “speaks” through his best-selling novels, such as Submission, as well as his public lectures. The last conference that Houellebecq attended in Brussels — on the occasion of the Oswald Spengler Prize, commemorating the author of The Decline of the West — was dedicated to that topic. “To sum up,” Houellebecq said, “the Western world as a whole is committing suicide.”

  23. Cynical Citizens Already Crying “Hoax” in Serial Mail Bombing Case

This does not bode well for civility, folks, when our distrust in the media is at such a peak.

You see, in advertising there is an inherent competition to stand out and effectively hack your audience’s thought patterns to sell a product. As newcomers learn the lessons of advertisers before them, the next guys will up the ante, making the effect on our brains that much more powerful. This goes on and on, constantly exposing the population to these bombastic tactics, and forever altering the way in which we perceive the world around us.

  24. Navy SEAL Charged With War Crimes — Should He Be?

A Navy SEAL was charged with covering up war crimes by a fellow SEAL in Iraq. One SEAL has already been charged in the affair.

Although Lt. Jacob Portier was not at the scene of the alleged crime, the charge sheet against him says he helped cover up an alleged murder of a wounded ISIS fighter in Iraq in 2017 by fellow SEAL Edward Gallagher.

The Navy contends that Gallagher stabbed the ISIS fighter to death and then posed for a photo next to the body.

More than 12 SEALS who were deployed to Iraq between 2017 and 2018 are under investigations for war crimes as well as leaders in Naval Special Warfare Group 1 who were investigating the allegations.

Although we don’t know more facts in this case, the issues of war crimes, personal security and loyalty to one’s fellow service personnel can often tread on blurry lines.

  25. Male Democrat Candidate Puts Hands On, Yells Profanities At Female GOP Opponent

While Democrats constantly bemoan alleged mistreatment of women by Republicans, they often fail to live up to their own standards.

After a candidate forum Tuesday night, State Rep. Greg Leding (D-Fayetteville) approached the stage where his opponent, Republican Dawn Clemence, was still standing. Footage from the incident shows Leding walk up to the base of the stage and being speaking to Clemence. He then starts pointing a finger at her before climbing onto the stage and getting up close to Clemence. He continues to approach her as she backs away, before putting his hand on her shoulder. A new documentary series by the Smithsonian Channel attempts to shed light on the jaw-dropping impeachment crisis that rocked the Bill Clinton presidency and made a White House intern one of the most talked-about women in the world.

Featuring never-before aired tapes with Clinton confidant Taylor Branch, “The Lost Tapes” is sure to reignite the 20-year-old watershed scandal.

Branch made the recordings on his drive home from the White House late at night after meeting with a frustrated Clinton.

The episode, which is part of the “Lost Tapes” series, utilizes recordings featuring Monica Lewinsky, then 22, first-hand audio tapes of many of those involved in the political soap opera, and rediscovered news footage.

A Saudi TV debate dealt with the question whether people suffering from psychological problems should go to a psychiatric clinic or to someone who would recite Quranic verses over them.

Psychiatrist Dr. Jamal Al-Tuwairqi said that Freud, who, he claimed, “went to New York and founded psychiatry there,” had taken “all the basics of psychiatry” from Muslim scientists.

Family consultant Dr. Zahra Al-Moabi rejected the need to go to psychiatric clinics, saying: “If someone is not cured by the Quran, he cannot be cured at all.”

Thousands of Central American migrants reached the municipality of Arriaga in the Mexican state of Chiapas on Friday, after travelling around 100 kilometres (62.1 miles) from the state’s Pijijiapan through Tonala.

Most of them walked all the way, but some paid up to 50 pesos ($2.58) for a ride to make the journey easier. They were piled up in trucks and vans, risking their lives in a fall.

Migrants were offered with food and clothes in every city stop. “They have given us water, and where to stay too. We have achieved milestone, there are times we have paid, but we go well,” one migrant from Honduras said.

Miami lawyer Ronald Lowy described Sayoc as “highly insecure and childlike” individual who liked bodybuilding.

He also revealed that Sayoc’s mother learned about his arrest from her hospital bed, where she was recovering from surgery.

“She literally was in the bed waking up from the anaesthesia. I mean my heart goes out to these people because you couldn’t imagine a more decent and loving family. They did everything they could.”
