    “Around 25 attacks on prison staff are recorded every day as record levels of violence sweep through jails in England and Wales.

    Official figures show assault and self-harm incidents behind bars have increased again to record levels.

    There were 9,485 assaults on staff in the 12 months to June 2018, up 27% from the previous year, a Ministry of Justice report showed.

    Of those, 947 were classed as ‘serious’ – such as those which require medical treatment or result in fractures, burns, or extensive bruising.

    The number of assaults on staff in the three months to June increased by 4% to a new record quarterly tally of 2,515 incidents.

    The Ministry of Justice report noted that there has been a change in how assaults on staff are recorded, which may have contributed to the increase.

    The Safety In Custody bulletin also revealed the total number of assaults jumped by 20% to 32,559 in the 12 months to June.

    It also revealed that there were 325 deaths in prison custody in the 12 months to September, up 8% from the previous year. Of these, five were homicides, up from three incidents in the previous year.

    Focus has intensified in recent months with the publication of a string of highly critical watchdog reports.

    Chief Inspector of Prisons Peter Clarke has demanded urgent Government action at four establishments in less than a year.

    Peter Dawson, director of the Prison Reform Trust, said: ‘Despite the unrelenting effort of many in the system, all of these indicators show that there is no end in sight to the catastrophe that has engulfed many of our prisons.’

    Justice Secretary David Gauke said: ‘I have been clear in my absolute determination to bring down the unacceptable levels of violence in our prisons…”

      • In the video he talks about the government itself printing money (supposedly without having anything to support the money, which means another type of fiat currency). The reason that the Fed was set up as a private business is that if it the government is the one running the central bank the politicians can manipulate the currency for political reasons. The problem with this is easy for everyone to understand, under the Obama administration the theory of an independent organization seeking only to ensure a strong economy fell apart. Obama (like all Presidents) got to appoint members of the Board of Governors of the Fed and instead of people who would work to ensure a strong economy he appointed political animals who are loyal to him.

      Hokay, class. This week’s reading assignment is: The Devil’s Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of the American Secret Government. Author, David Talbot, provides illuminating insights into the transition of “Wild Bill” Donovan’s OSS (Office of Strategic Services) as it metamorphosed into today’s CIA (Central Intelligence Agency).

      Somewhere along the way, Allen Dulles managed to inveigle himself into America’s federal superstructure and its all been been hellish ever since.

      Most curious of all, in the last several chapters of “The Devil’s Chessboard”, author, David Talbot, devotes his writing, almost exclusively, to the JFK assassination. The entire affair (as documented by him) involves levels of coincidence which only a sub-moron would fail to question.

      “The Devil’s Chessboard”, will give you some of the missing answers about JFK’s death. One tiny example: Lee Harvey Oswald was removed from government watch lists mere days before he murdered Kennedy.

      Then again, (according to Talbot) there’s how the owner (a virulent Conservative) of the Texas School Book Depository—where Lee Harvey set up his sniper’s nest—removed the multi-pane window from Oswald’s perch and hung it in his living room.

    A device addressed to New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker has been intercepted in South Florida.

    The FBI confirmed that a suspicious package addressed to Booker had been recovered. Booker’s office did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.

    China is aggressively seeking to dominate the Internet of Things and plans to use access to billions of networked electronic devices for intelligence-gathering, sabotage, and business purposes, according to a forthcoming congressional report.

    China for nearly a decade has been investing heavily in the emerging technology on the Internet of Things (IoT) and has made outpacing similar U.S. efforts one of the ruling Communist Party of China’s highest strategic goals.

    “China’s unique approach to the development of IoT and its enabling infrastructure poses significant challenges for U.S. economic and national security interests,” says a report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission due out Thursday.

    CARACAS (AFP) –

    Crime and a grinding economic crisis have turned the traditionally vibrant, teeming streets of Caracas into no man’s land once the sun goes down.

    Major thoroughfares like the Francisco Fajardo highway were empty during recent nighttime drives by AFP. Hardly any cars drove past the Esfera de Soto, a giant, suspended artwork in the shape of an orange sphere, that is iconic for this troubled city of six million people.

    Nor was there much traffic on Libertador Avenue, which joins east and west Caracas, and in the working class district of La Candelaria in the city center hardly any pedestrians were out and about. And those that were walked very fast.

  18. Bomb scare rattles those touched by past political violence

    NEW YORK (AP) — No one has been hurt or killed — at least, not yet. But the wave of mail bombs targeting prominent Democrats this week has angered and dismayed some of the people affected personally by past acts of political violence in the United States.

    In the past 60 years alone, there have been scores of deadly incidents motivated by ideology. The perpetrators range from Ku Klux Klan racists to members of the far-left Weather Underground to anti-abortion extremists who killed abortion-providing doctors.

    The mail-bomb scare has reopened old wounds for Lisa McNair, whose life was shaped by a deadly blast that occurred a year before she was born: the Klan bombing that killed four black girls at 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sept. 15, 1963. Her sister, Denise, just 11 years old, was the youngest victim.

    • Authorities eye Florida in hunt for source of suspicious packages, as security officials worry danger ‘not over’

      Federal investigators are increasingly focusing on Florida as a transit point for a number of the 10 suspected explosive devices recovered so far in a chilling terror campaign aimed at top Democratic Party leaders and supporters, a law enforcement official said Thursday.

      The official, who is not authorized to comment publicly, said among the locations that have drawn investigative interest has been the postal distribution center in Opa Locka, Florida, where several of the packages may have passed through.

      Miami-Dade police bomb-squad and K-9 officers were called out to the center Thursday evening as federal authorities continued their investigation at the facility.

      Attention turned to Florida on Thursday largely because the device addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder was recovered when it was routed back to the return address of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., in Sunrise, according to two law enforcement officials. Schultz has nothing to do with the mail campaign.

      The two officials, who are not authorized to comment publicly, said authorities had not identified a suspect.

    • Design of bombs targeting Trump critics came from Internet

      WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Investigators believe that the design and instructions for building the bombs sent to several critics of U.S. President Donald Trump this week were taken from the internet, a federal law enforcement official told Reuters on Thursday.

      The instructions for such devices are widely available on websites and in propaganda distributed by Islamic militant groups including Al Qaeda and ISIS, said the official and a former federal government bomb expert.

      The federal official also said the designs could have been lifted from “The Anarchist Cookbook,” a notorious bomb and hacker manual dating to the early 1970s.

      There was no claim of responsibility for the spate bombs, none of which exploded.

  19. Migrants gather on Guatemala border, as another mass exodus to the U.S. takes shape

    TECUN UMAN, Guatemala — Several hundred migrants from Honduras had gathered in the center of this bustling border town Thursday with more streaming in by the hour in what could be the beginning of another mass exodus of people headed to the U.S. through Mexico.

    Some of the migrants in the town’s main plaza said Thursday that they were waiting for a wave of new migrants to arrive that could number between 1,500 and 4,000 people, similar to the huge caravan of migrants that passed through this town just five days earlier.

    With the bridge connecting Tecun Uman in Guatemala with Ciudad Hidalgo in Mexico still closed, migrants said they planned to cross the Suchiate River that divides the two countries en masse — either on rafts or by wading across areas where the brown churning water is only waist deep.

    You may have heard about the caravan of immigrants from Central America making its way through Mexico in the hopes of illegally crossing the border into the United States. The group of perhaps 4,000 to 7,000 people has made its intentions clear: entering the U.S., even if it means violating American immigration laws.

    But you may not have heard of one of the key organizers behind the caravan: Pueblo Sin Fronteras, or “People Without Borders.” And Pueblo Sin Fronteras wants to keep it that way.

    Some left-leaning publications such as the New York Times have said that “no group has claimed responsibility for organizing [the most recent] caravan,” perhaps in order to stave off claims by President Trump and other conservatives that it is being aided by left-wing activists in the United States.

      Thousands of Central American migrants spent Thursday night in Pijijiapan, in the Mexican state of Chiapas, during their journey to the United States border.

      In the town’s central park, many slept among the mosquitoes and the intense heat, and a large number sought to forget the fatigue and dangers of the day by dancing and singing the evening away.

      This Friday they plan to walk around 100 kilometers (62 miles) to reach Arriaga Chiapas and then leave for the state of Oaxaca.

    In the midst of these bitterly contested, hyper-partisan midterm elections, one of the most interesting subplots is how the left-leaning, Bernie Sanders-inspired Democrats will fare – and what that could mean for the future of US politics.

  22. A painting of Jesus was the only thing to survive a hellish inferno

    WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The First Baptist Church in Wakefield began picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed the 150-year-old structure earlier this week.

    Witnesses told Boston 25 News that lightning struck the spire of the church as severe weather moved through the area, sparking a fast-moving fire on Oct. 23.

    Crews began dismantling the remnants of the historic landmark in the rain Wednesday morning.

    The 150-year-old building will now be torn down completely.

    Just one painting hanging in the front entrance of the church was left behind, nearly untouched.

  24. NBC News deliberately hid vital information that would have helped clear Brett Kavanaugh of the serial rape allegations Julie Swetnick and her attorney, Michael Avenatti, leveled against him.
    On September 16, Kavanaugh and his loved ones were dropped into a pit of hell due to allegations of sexual assault from Christine Blasey Ford. Although her story quickly fell apart during public testimony, for the three-plus weeks that would follow, in an effort to derail his confirmation, Democrats and their allies in the establishment media did everything in their power to personally destroy this man as a drunken serial rapist.

    NBC News and Avenatti played a huge role in this obscene smear campaign. One notable example was NBC breathlessly publishing and airing an assault allegation against Kavanaugh that was quickly exposed as a hoax. NBC did not even bother to independently corroborate this allegation prior to airing it. A Democrat handed NBC the smear, and NBC ran with it.

    To make matters worse, we now know NBC News withheld crucial information that undermined the allegations made by Swetnick, the Avenatti client who accused a high school-aged Kavanaugh of spiking punch bowls at house parties so he and his buddies could engage in serial rapes.

    Horrible crime in Germany: After a techno party, an 18-year-old girl is said to have been raped by eight men. All eight – allegedly seven Syrians and one German with a migration background – were in custody.The tabloid “Bild” reports that the 18-year-old celebrated with a friend on October the 14th at a Freiburg disco. A man unknown to her gave her a drink. Around midnight, the girl went to the door with this man. The 22-year-old, who comes from Syria and is said to have been in Germany since 2014, then raped the 18-year-old in a bush.As if this hadn’t been bad enough, the man reportedly left his victim lying in the bushes – and told his friends, who had been in the disco, about the defenseless girl in front of the building. Then – according to tabloid “Bild” at least – seven other men are said to have sexually abused the 18-year-old.According to the newspaper, all eight suspects are in custody. The investigations continued at full speed, according to a chief commissioner.

      Eight men were arrested in the idyllic German city of Freiburg on Friday in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old woman. Police said that seven of the suspects were Syrian men aged 19 to 29, and one native German aged 25.

      The victim reportedly met at least one of the men at a nightclub in Freiburg’s industrial area on the night of October 14. The man is suspected of having drugged the woman’s drink. All eight men are accused of having taken turns assaulting her near the club.

      Police said they were able to determine some of the suspects based on DNA evidence.

      “There is no tolerance for despicable acts,” said Mayor Martin Horn, promising swift justice.

      The incident is the latest in a series of violent acts since 2016 to have rocked the southwestern city known for its beautiful scenery, university and eco-friendly living.

    “The detained planned to carry out resonant terrorist attacks in Moscow, using both firearms and improvised explosive devices,” the statement read.

    During the search of the terrorist hideout, the FSB discovered automatic firearms, cash, communication devices with reports on preparing the terrorist attacks, as well as blueprints for improvised bombs.

    “AT LEAST two people have rushed to hospital after a stabbing at a public library in Atherton, Wigan, as a spate of violent crime continues to blight Britain’s cities.

    Police confirmed “at least two people” had been hurt in the attack while North West Ambulance Service said there had been three casualties, the Manchester Evening News reports.

    Witnesses reported seeing a man attempting to flee the scene by hijacking a van, according to The Bolton News.

    A man has been arrested following the attack, Greater Manchester Police said.

    A force statement said: “At 10.30am on Friday, we received reports that at least two people had been injured at Atherton Library on York Street.

    “Police immediately responded and one man has been detained.

    Willful concealment of protestors’ faces will now carry a proposed 15,000 euro fine and a prison sentence of up to one year. The bill also allows for authorities to ban individuals deemed harmful to the public good from protests entirely.

    The new bill was proposed by the conservative Republicans but was rejected and voted against by the Communists, the Socialist party, and French President Emmanuel Macron’s Le Republique En Marche! (LREM).

    “This bill clearly erases public freedoms, including the freedom to demonstrate,” said the chairman of the majority-Communist CRCE group. The comments were countered by Republican senator Catherine Troendle who said: “This in no way undermines the freedom to demonstrate but, on the contrary, is there to ensure the free exercise of it.”

    Left-extremist violence has seen a dramatic rise in recent years in France, especially during protests like those against populist politician Marine Le Pen last year during the French presidential election.

    The Antifa extremists involved in the protests, which often become riots, have smashed up shops in central Paris, assaulted police officers, and even attempted to set them on fire in some cases with improvised incendiary weapons.

    France is not the only country to have problems with Antifa violence during protests. Last year the German city of Hamburg saw rioting during the G20 summit where shops were smashed, cars set on fire, and hundreds of police were injured.

    Following the riots, the German government shut down the major Antifa website Linksunten and has arrested several extremists in connection with the violence.”

    In June, European Union member states agreed to a proposal that would see the migrant reception centres built within the Maghreb to stem the flow of migrants coming across the Mediterranean.

    According to Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamad al-Taher Siala, “Libya and its neighbours are opposed to the European project to create landing platforms for migrants on their territory to prevent them from arriving directly in the EU.”

    “All countries in North Africa reject this proposal – Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Libya as well,” Mr al-Taher Siala added.

    Al-Taher Siala claimed that the Libyans have around 30,000 migrants currently in custody but said there are upward of another 750,000 migrants scattered across Libya and that the government is focused on deporting illegals back to their home countries, Franceinfo reports.

    “If the EU wants to help us, it can provide us with logistical support: all-terrain vehicles, drones, helicopters, and maybe some light weapons,” he said.

    Morocco has expressed a similar opinion with authorities claiming this week that they would be expelling all sub-Saharan Africans who took part in the recent storming of the Spanish enclave of Melilla in which one migrant died.

    Italian populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has been at the forefront of the migration issue in the Mediterranean since coming to power earlier this year and visited with the Tunisian government to promote cooperation after closing Italian ports to migrant rescue NGOs.

    Salvini commented on the rejection by the North African states, suggesting that the EU should look toward building reception centres in countries like Niger, Sudan, and Mali instead.”

    Burger declined to comment on whether Germany considers the case to be politically motivated.

    Around 100 people gathered in front of Saudi Arabian embassy in London on Thursday to demand justice for murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the end of arms sales to the kingdom by the UK government.

    People chanted ‘hands off Yemen, justice for Jamal, stop arming Saudis’ while holding banners condemning the Saudi regime.

    Lindsey German, convener of Stop the War coalition said that the UK government should break diplomatic and defence ties with Saudi Arabia. “That is the least you can expect from any supposed civilised government, we obviously don’t have one.”

    Khashoggi was last seen alive entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. The Turkish authorities believe he was the victim of a premeditated murder.

    The Saudis provided conflicting accounts of the journalist’s fate before eventually admitting he died inside its Istanbul consulate during a “rogue operation”.

    Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has come under increasing pressure to reveal the full extent of his suspected involvement in the killing.

    Two Florida girls brought knives to their middle school in an alleged attempt to kill and mutilate fellow students for satanic reasons, officials said Wednesday.

    No one was harmed in the foiled plot, which was discovered Tuesday at Bartow Middle School in central Florida, school officials said.

    Police say the girls — ages 11 and 12 — were found in a bathroom stall, allegedly with multiple knives, a pizza cutter and knife sharpener in their possession. The girls planned to commit suicide after stabbing other students, police say.

    “The plan was to kill at least 1 student but were hoping to kill anywhere from 15-25 students,” an affidavit said. “Killing all of these students was in hopes it would make them worse sinners ensuring that after they committed suicide … (they) would go to hell so they could be with satan.”

    The girls allegedly hatched the plot after watching scary movies over the weekend, detectives said. The plan involved lying in wait for smaller students, mutilating their victims’ bodies and drinking their victims’ blood, according to authorities.

    Bartow Chief of Police Joe Hall called the plot “horrific” in a statement posted to social media by Polk County Public Schools. Hall went on to say that officials’ safety plan helped prevent the alleged attack from occurring.

    That plan was triggered as administrators searched for the students after they didn’t show up for class Tuesday.

    Prosecutors will determine whether the girls will be charged as juveniles or adults, Deputy Police Chief Bryan Dorman told the Associated Press in an email. Among the charges they face: conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and possession of a weapon at school. The girls were sent to a juvenile detention facility.

    Israeli settlers took over a Palestinian house this noon in Silwan after Israeli occupation officers forced the Palestinian inhabitants out using gunfire.

    Occupation forces emptied the house before handing it to the settlers’ organisation Ateret Cohanim.

    The property is part of a building of five floors located in the Batn Al-Hawa neighbourhood of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the rest of the building has been occupied by settlers since 2015.
