  1. Concordia University’s dean of students has called for a meeting with leaders of the university’s Muslim Students Association to discuss a television report that suggested the association’s library contains books and videos by “extremist preachers.”

The report, which aired on TVA on Friday, said the library, located in the Muslim Students’ Association building on Mackay St., “is in a modest setting but nonetheless has cutting-edge software that allows users to consult online books, (among which) TVA news found dozens of works by radical imams.”

In fact, the library’s holdings can be consulted online from any computer.

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20180227-egypt-birth-rate-down-62-in-3-years/

“Egypt’s birth rate has fallen by 62 per cent over the last three years, the country’s health ministry announced yesterday.

According to the ministry official data, the country’s birth rate in 2017 amounted to 2.55 million newborns, compared to 6.68 million new babies in 2015.

The Deputy of the Minister of Health, Tariq Tawfik, said that the government’s population strategy aims at reaching 112 million people by 2030 instead of 128 million. This, Tawfik noted, will save the state 200 billion Egyptian pounds ($11 billion), which would be spent on education, health and security services.

Egypt is currently organising birth-control and family planning awareness campaigns in the rural areas, in an attempt to slow population growth which President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said was a “threat to development”.

Egypt is the largest Arab country by population. According to the government’s official data, 94 million Egyptians live in the country.”

  4. Exclusive: Chemical weapons watchdog investigates Ghouta attacks – sources

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – The world’s chemical weapons watchdog is investigating recent attacks in the besieged, rebel-held Syrian region of eastern Ghouta to determine whether banned munitions were used, sources told Reuters.

The Hague-based Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) opened an investigation on Sunday into reports of the repeated use of chlorine bombs this month in the district near the Syrian capital, diplomatic sources told Reuters.

Political leaders in France, the United States and United Kingdom said this month they would back targeted military action against Damascus if there were proof of chemical weapons use by forces under President Bashar al-Assad.

The investigation comes as Russia ordered the establishment of an evacuation corridor and five-hour daily truce to allow residents to leave eastern Ghouta, where 400,000 people are living under siege and bombardment.

Among the attacks the OPCW’s fact-finding team will examine is one on Sunday which local health authorities said killed a child and caused symptoms consistent with exposure to chlorine gas, the sources said.

  5. Facebook says page of firebrand anti-Rohingya Myanmar monk Wirathu removed

YANGON (AFP) – Facebook has removed the page of a Myanmar monk once dubbed the “Buddhist Bin Laden” for his incendiary posts about Muslims, the company confirmed, as it faces pressure to clamp down on hate speech.

Wirathu, a prominent face of Myanmar’s Buddhist ultra-nationalist movement, had amassed hundreds of thousands of followers on the network, using it as a platform to attack Muslims, singling out the stateless Rohingya minority.

Nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since last August following a military crackdown in Rakhine state that has been likened to ethnic cleansing by the US and the UN, but which has been applauded by Myanmar nationalists online.

A Facebook spokesperson told AFP late Monday that Wirathu’s page had been removed.

“Our Community Standards prohibit organisations and people dedicated to promoting hatred and violence against others”, a Facebook spokesperson said in an email.

“If a person consistently shares content promoting hate, we may take a range of actions such as temporarily suspending their ability to post and ultimately, removal of their account.”

The page was taken down in late January.

Wirathu could not be reached for comment, but he said in a video last year that his account had been temporarily banned for 30 days because “Facebook is occupied by the Muslims.”

Facebook use has grown exponentially in Myanmar since a quasi-civilian government opened up the telecoms sector in 2013, making it easier for people to access the Internet in the largely Buddhist country.

Hardline monks like Wirathu took to the platform as well, gaining notoriety for fanning anti-Muslim hatred through inflammatory posts.

His tirades have been blamed for stoking sectarian violence, which has plagued Myanmar’s transition to democracy.

After Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi came to power in 2016, the government dissolved the Ma Ba Tha group to which Wirathu belonged, and slapped the monk with a one-year speaking ban.

But the man who once appeared on the cover of Time magazine as the “face of Buddhist terror” remains influential.

The social media giant has faced calls to rein in hate speech on its Myanmar accounts for years, with pressure mounting during the Rohingya crisis.

Thet Swe Win, a Yangon-based interfaith activist, said Facebook’s move sent a symbolic message about not tolerating hate speech.

But getting rid of the page will not resolve the problem, he warned.

“They remove his account but not his videos, and his religious hate speeches, they are still on Facebook and his followers are spreading it,” he said.

  9. FedEx Refuses To Cut Ties With NRA. Here’s Their Statement.

On Monday, FedEx announced that they will not be bullied into cutting ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA) in the face of pro-gun control astroturf campaigns urging businesses to disassociate from the massive gun rights organization.

“FedEx is a common carrier under Federal law and therefore does not and will not deny service or discriminate against any legal entity regardless of their policy positions or their political views,” said the statement. “FedEx has never set or changed rates for any of our millions of customers around the world in response to their politics, beliefs or positions on issues.”

Gotta call Bull Hockey on this one. Any wide-spectrum air freight company making direct deliveries from Muslim Majority Nations to the West must have an extra layer (or three) of security.

The cynical side of me is willing to believe that FedEx has diluted the impact of this increased operating expense by imposing a “Global Security Cost” which is (unfairly) spread out across all nations despite how a number of them might have ZERO support or collaboration with terrorist sponsors.

Which only means that they may well have displaced the impact of Islam in modern society. While not alone in that effort, a multinational corporation like FedEx has a planetary obligation to NOT assist in the dispersion of such harm.

Support by FedEx for the NRA makes all sorts of warm, fuzzy sounds. If they were fully-transparent on (where and when) regionally-specific operating costs got all stroppy, I just think there’d be an entire ‘nother story to tell…

  10. David Hogg Vows Not to Return to School Until Lawmakers Pass Gun Control

Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg says he will not return to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School until more gun control is passed.

Hogg made the comments Sunday during a gun control rally held at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston, New Jersey.

The New York Daily News reports that Hogg said, “I’m not going back to school on Wednesday until one bill is passed.” He did not specify which law he wants most, only that he is not going back until at least one law garners the support of lawmakers.

He said, “Literally any legislation at this point would be a success. Considering the fact that so few legislators in Florida met with us and they want the people to forget, that’s disgusting. The fact that they want people to forget about this and elect them again as the child murderers they are, that’s unacceptable and we’re not going to let that happen.”

    • OK the arrogant little punk wants to drop out of school, let him to this. He is hurting himself not others so why not let him learn he isn’t the center of the universe, he is a High School Student who thinks he is superior to the rest of us. Let him learn that he isn’t anything but a tiny cog that no one other then his parents will miss.

      • I’m sure he knows he’s risking nothing.
All you have to do is take an exam – easy, max 4th-grade competency – and get a diploma. Girls who drop out of school because they’re pregnant do it all the time. A GED is another option.

This preening little prince needs a lesson he won’t learn in that school. What is he – 16? 17? – old enough for boot-camp somewhere? Maybe Colombia or Panama.

  11. How the Left Became its Own Worst Enemy – Part I

It is one of the ironies of modern politics that the same word can be susceptible to more than one meaning, creating confusion for everyone.

One of the reasons for the confusion is that liberal values are generally shared by moderates on both the left and right of politics. Not by the far left — Marxists, Leninists, Trotskyites, and Stalinists or Britain’s Labour Party under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn – or by the far right – Germany’s Alternativ für Deutschland, Hungary’s Jobbik, Austria’s Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, or Greece’s Golden Dawn.

Leftist values underpinned both the American and French revolutions, helping to create the liberal democracies that remain our chief defence against Communism at one end of the political spectrum and Fascism on the other. Most of those values are taken for granted by mainstream populations in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and much of Europe. Writing in American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia, Ralph Raico describes classical liberalism as

  12. Dana Loesch Reveals More Evidence CNN’s Town Hall Was ‘Scripted’ To Be Pro-Gun Control

Over the last 24 hours, more evidence that ?CNN engaged in agenda-driven reporting and programming revolving around the horrific Parkland shooting has come to light. A heroic student survivor, another student’s father, and now one of the speaker’s at the CNN town hall on gun control have made claims that suggest CNN “scripted’ or shaped their reporting in an overt way in order to further the network’s gun control agenda.

As The Daily Wire has highlighted, ROTC member Colton Haab, who shielded his fellow students with Kevlar during the shooting, told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Thursday evening that a CNN producer reached out to him about appearing at the town hall, but last second told him he could only ask a question written out for him by the network, telling him to “stick to the script.” (Update: On Friday, CNN pushed back on Haab’s claim, releasing emails of the exchange between Haab and the producer. Read more here.) The same night, a parent of one of the student survivors accused CNN of admitting to trying to find people to interview who would “espouse a certain narrative which was taking the tragedy and turning it into a policy debate.”

  13. Dimwit Florida Sheriff Was ‘Once a Proud Member of Team Obama’

When some major police incident occurs, it is most often my practice to withhold comment until I can be sure that most of the facts surrounding it have been revealed. A horrific event like a school shooting like that which occurred in Parkland, Fla., arouses the impulse to weigh in with opinions based on incomplete or even false information. It is best to resist this impulse.

Others, of course, with endless hours of air time to fill, and with agendas to push along, are unable to resist it. There may be more egregious examples of this, but I don’t see how anyone can compete with the CNN’s recent “town hall,” at which Sen. Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch were mocked and browbeaten by what amounted to little more than an angry mob.

Which is not to say the people in attendance didn’t have reason to be angry. The crowd was made up of students, parents, and teachers from Stoneman Douglas High School, where days earlier 31 students and staff members had been shot, 17 of them fatally. From a high school student’s limited perspective and experience, he knows only that something horrific has occurred in his world, something that by all rights should not have. With his nerves still raw and exposed, he sees before him on the stage a conservative senator and a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association, each of whom he perceives, in that limited perspective and experience, to have contributed to the trauma he has experienced.

  14. SLOVAKIA – Fico: Women need protection, especially as more migrants arrive in Europe

The prime minister repeated that he refuses to allow the emergence of “compact Muslim communities in Slovakia” as he announced Slovakia will not ratify the Istanbul Convention as a whole.

Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on February 22 that Slovakia will not ratify the Istanbul Convention as long as doubts persist about its accordance with the Slovak Constitution, particularly its paragraph about marriage as a bond between a man and a woman.

Fico’s statement came on the heels of protests against the Convention organised by people from conservative Christian circles. One such protest was staged in the northern-Slovak town of Tvrdosin on February 10.

Instead of ratifying the Istanbul Convention as a whole, Fico proposes to introduce national laws that would increase the protection of women from domestic violence.

“Any violence against women is unacceptable and has no place in our society,” Fico said as quoted by the Sme daily, and added that the protection of women’s rights is particularly important at a time when migrants make up more and more of the European population and bring with them “cultural and social patterns from their countries of origin”, including the perception of a woman as a submissive human being.

“I am against the emergence of compact Muslim communities in Slovakia on principle,” Fico said as quoted by Sme. “So that these communities are not able to preserve the habits that Europe and its Christian historical roots refute as wrong and unjust.”

Christian Churches in Slovakia issued a joint statement earlier on February 22 speaking against the Istanbul Convention and calling on the government to withdraw its signature from the document. The religious representatives, just like Fico, labelled the Convention “controversial”.

“We are in favour of the protection of women from any violence whatsoever but we cannot agree with the ideologies that present equality as sameness and go as far as to deny the differences between men and women,” the statement reads as quoted by the Sme daily.

  15. It’s True, The Founding Founders Said Second Amendment Is God-Given Right

As expected NRA chief Wayne LaPierre’s speech at CPAC was panned by liberal commentators. But there was a tiny part of his speech that was trashed more than others—the part where he mentioned God.

And there is no greater personal individual freedom than the right to keep and bear arms, the right to protect yourself, and of the right to survive. It is not bestowed by man but granted by God to all Americans as our American birthright. So I call right now today on every citizen who loves this country, and who treasures this freedom, to stand and unflinchingly defended the second amendment, the one freedom that protects us all in this country

  16. Calif. Dems Increasingly Oppose Pelosi; Not Liberal Enough

‘She is disconnected and out of touch with the people of San Francisco…’

(Ana Michaels, Liberty Headlines) California Democrats are attacking Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-12) for not being liberal enough and has gained three primary challengers so far.

Her challengers and critics have characterized Pelosi, famous for her hard left positions, as too “centrist,” “corporatist,” and an embodiment of the establishment.

One of her challengers is 72-year old Attorney Stephen Jaffe, an ardent Bernie Sanders supporter.

“We are here because we are the true believers. We represent the fundamental core values of the Democratic Party,” Jaffe told the Alameda Elk Club audience, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I do not adhere to the politics and programs and practices of the people presently in control of the Democratic Party. They are centrists. They are corporatists. And they are elitists,” said Jaffe.

Jaffe told The Sacramento Bee that Pelosi’s focus is only on national politics and not the concerns of her district.

“Violent Islamists should be treated like paedophiles and have their children taken away from them, Britain’s top counter terrorist officer said last night.

Mark Rowley called for police, social workers and family court judges to step in and protect the vulnerable families of twisted extremists.

The Scotland Yard chief officer said terrorist propaganda and sexual abuse were ‘equally wicked’ forces for children.

But, he warned, extremists were often left to care for impressionable youngsters despite convictions for violence and spreading hate.

In a keynote speech, Mr Rowley also warned against underestimating the threat of the Far Right as he revealed four plots were foiled last year.

Delivering a comprehensive assessment of the enduring terrorist threat on the eve of his retirement, the top police officer:

Called for the British Islamic State killers dubbed ‘The Beatles’ to face justice, adding: ‘Locking them up and throwing away the key would be a good idea.’

Urged web giants to do more to stop terrorists plotting attacks, spreading vile propaganda and hiding behind the anonymity of the dark web.

Branded Far Right and Islamist extremists a ‘toxic combination’ who feed off each other to spread hatred and division.

Painted a stark picture of the challenge facing police and MI5, with more than 600 ongoing investigations into at least 3,000 suspects.

  25. ISIS cheerleader, 23, calling himself ‘Captain the Illiterate’ who ‘hated smart people’ and setup a Facebook page to encourage attacks on the West is jailed for seven years (dailymail, Feb 27, 2018)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5436657/ISIS-cheerleader-23-jailed-seven-years.html

“A mobile phone worker who called himself ‘Captain the illiterate’ who collected bomb-making ‘recipes’ and plotted to ‘kill smart people’ has been jailed for seven years.

Mohammed Kamal Hussain, 28, from Whitechapel, east London, also created a Facebook profile where he encouraged others to join ISIS.

Police praised a 23-year-old man from Bosnia who tipped off British authorities when he received a message over Facebook trying to persuade him to aid the terrorist organisation.

The Bosnian had recently created a Facebook profile when he received the unsolicited post, saying: ‘I message many people on the Facebook in order to stimulate them to join the ISIS.’

Investigators established the message was from Hussain, a Bangladeshi national, who had over-stayed his visa and was living in east London.

Hussain was denied an extension of his visa at the end of 2014 but continued to live and to work in Britain illegally.

They also discovered he had been sent a chemistry app by a contact via the Telegram social media service which offered a ‘virtual laboratory’ to ‘mix chemicals in virtual containers’.

It added: ‘When the explosion switch is on, all explosions will occur as in reality.’

He had also downloaded a recipe for a pipe bomb from an al-Qaeda magazine publication.

When police arrested Hussain in a car park near his work in Purfleet in Essex, they found he had an ISIS video called ‘Procession of Light’ which featured suicide bombers, including a young boy, saying their prayers, getting into a vehicle and being watched by a drone as they drove to a vehicle check point and then blew themselves up.

Hussain also had an open Facebook page which he used to encourage support for ISIS, including one entry that featured a picture of a child carrying a black ISIS flag and another from January last year that read: ‘The West has been plundering our wealth for centuries. Now is the time for payback. In Sha’ Allah, the chickens will come home to roost.’

After his arrest, Hussain claimed he was ‘just doing what Facebook says to do and “share your mind”.’

Hussain had at least four Facebook accounts, opening a new one each time the existing account was closed by the social media company.

The Judge Peter Lodder QC criticised the firm saying ‘it may surprise some to know that the security services are unable to view private messages on Facebook’, and had to rely on a screenshot instead.

He was found guilty of supporting ISIS and encouragement of terrorism…”

    • A mobile phone worker who called himself ‘Captain the illiterate’ who collected bomb-making ‘recipes’ and plotted to ‘kill smart people’ has been jailed for seven years.

Mohammed Kamal Hussain, 28, from Whitechapel, east London, also created a Facebook profile where he encouraged others to join ISIS.

A Mohammed Factor of 100%. Quelle surprise!

Please try and imagine how many tens of thousands of identical, violently hateful, snarling little Muslim turds like Hussain are currently hunched over their respective keyboards doing the exact same sort of things. And that’s just the EU.

Now, expand it to a global scale and you’ve tens of millions of these shites.

This is why Islam is headed for disaster. Muslims have regularly chosen an “all or nothing” outcome and are about to discover why binary math can be so rigorous.

“A “PREDATORY sex attacker” who raped a pregnant woman at knife point in her own bed has been jailed for life.

Afghan national Aryan Rashidi, who entered the UK on a lorry illegally, held a knife to his victim’s throat during the shocking attack in the early hours of October 5, 2016.

Rashidi preyed on the pregnant woman in order to take a risk to “fulfill his sexual needs”, Leeds Crown Court heard.

The court was also told he had tried to commit a sex attack on another victim in June 2016 as she slept in bed with her husband with their baby in a cot in the same room.

The court heard both victims have been left deeply traumatised and have had to move as they no longer felt safe in their homes…”

  27. Multiculturalism is dead – even Merkel warns immigrants ‘fit in or face consequences’ (express, Feb 27, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/924756/angela-merkel-germany-immigrants-refugee-germany-cdu-grand-coalition-latest

“GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned immigrants to “integrate or face consequences” in a last desperate bid to gain support for her crisis-stricken coalition as she attempts to cling to power.

The Chancellor came under fire for her decision in 2015 to open Germany’s borders to one million migrants at the height of the refugee crisis gripping Europe.

And now the 63-year-old has lashed out at critics, admitting she would react “the same way again” if a similar crisis erupted.

The open-door policy weakened her support and saw voters turn to the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party in the September elections.

Speaking at her annual party conference, Mrs Merkel said: “Misguided tolerance is as dangerous to our cohesion as populist incitement against anything foreign.

“Integration requires well defined underlying values ad clear and noticeable consequences for those who refuse integration.”

Vowing not to overlook racism, Mrs Merkel said: “It makes no difference to me if antisemitic incitement comes from Muslim immigrants, from the AfD or from the far left.

“Those who use hateful slogans will meet our determined resistance.”

Mrs Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democrats (SPD) have reached a deal to govern in a coalition following marathon talks in Berlin after she failed to clinch a majority in the September 2017 elections.

Mrs Merkel’s future now rests with the SPD members who will be deciding whether to approve the coalition deal in an internal referendum.

In a further sign of her weakening grip of the CDU, Mrs Merkel was forced to replace health minister Hermann Grohe and interior minister Thomas de Maiziere with more conservative members of the party.

In their place, Mrs Merkel welcomed her biggest critic Jens Spahn as health minister in the next Cabinet to quell party rebellion.

The health minister has repeatedly criticised Mrs Merkel’s centrist policies, particularly on immigration, and his appointment signals efforts by the CDU to win back voters who turned to the far-right.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was selected as the party’s new general secretary after party delegates approved another governing coalition.”

  28. Ten Bullet Holes Found in Swedish Police Station Attacked Overnight (breitbart, Feb 27, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/02/27/ten-bullet-holes-found-swedish-police-station-attacked-overnight/

“Police in the Swedish migrant-majority town of Södertälje discovered ten bullet holes in the local police station thought to have been attacked by an unknown assailant on early Monday morning.

The shooting occurred at the town’s police station, located about a 30-minute drive from Stockholm, overnight, according to investigators. Police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson said the holes were likely from bullets but that he could not make a definitive comment until technicians had examined the scene, Aftonbladet reports.

The bullet holes were discovered at around 8:45 am Monday but are thought to have been fired closer to 3 am. Police received a phone call at 2:52 am from someone who described hearing what sounded like gunshots, Olsson said.

When asked how police in the area had not been aware of the attack at the time, Olsson said: “It’s a local police area, I’m not aware of how it is manned.” Police later stated that the station had been left totally unmanned overnight…”

  29. Suit alleges sex-and-booze-filled life at the Bronx DA’s office

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is a hotbed of misconduct where prosecutors and other staffers neglect their work to shop, drink booze and have sex, according to a $15 million notice of claim filed Monday by a suspended employee who’s involved with an embattled NYPD cop.

Crime analyst Crystal Rivera also claims that Bronx DA Darcel Clark opened a baseless probe of her boyfriend, Detective David Terrell, to “publicly vilify” him and cover up her office’s “incompetence and unethical practices.”

Rivera’s wide-ranging allegations were made in a filing with the city Comptroller’s Office that’s required before suing the city.

The papers say Clark and several top aides illegally retaliated against Rivera on Friday by slapping her with administrative charges — including insubordination — based on her “personal relationship” with Terrell.

Terrell is a key figure in the failed prosecution of a 2015 shooting that led Clark to launch an investigation by her office and eventually the feds.

During an afternoon news conference outside the DA’s office, Rivera claimed she’d witnessed an astounding array of scandalous behavior since she was hired there in 2007.

  30. Enabling Killer Cruz
Leftist school policies aid the classroom-to-grave pipeline.
    February 27, 2018
    Lloyd Billingsley

If the FBI and local law enforcement had followed established policy, the Valentine’s Day murder of 17 high-school students by Nikolas Cruz could very well have been stopped. Gaining less media attention, on the other hand, is the role of educational policies in the total failure to protect the students from a known threat.

As the Sun-Sentinel of Florida’s Broward County reports, Nikolas Cruz “kicked doors, cursed at teachers, fought with and threatened classmates and brought a backpack with bullets to school.” In 2014, administrators transferred Cruz to an alternative school for students with “emotional and behavioral disabilities” but two years later changed course and retuned Cruz to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Cruz was banished for disciplinary violations but “never expelled from Broward schools. Legally, he couldn’t be.”

Under federal law, the U.S. Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Nikolas Cruz had a right to a “free and appropriate” education at a public school. As special education lawyer Stephanie Langer told the Sun-Sentinel, “You can’t just kick kids out of the public schools because you are afraid of them, or because they are hard to educate.” In Parkland, Florida, that notion overrode the right of other students to an education free from fear, and as it turned out, deprived them of their right to life as well.

  31. Incarceration of White People Doubled, Black People Dropped
    February 27, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

These are interesting numbers. And while Obama’s idea of criminal justice reform involved freeing drug dealers and cracking down on rural areas, it’s not a sufficient explanation for what’s going on here because of the extended timeline. I would suspect that it’s a combination of the economic impact of outsourcing and environmental regulations killing manufacturing jobs, the collapse of the family due to the counterculture and Hispanic prisoners being written up as white.

    https://www.frontpagemag.com/point/269442/incarceration-white-people-doubled-black-people-daniel-greenfield

      • There does seem to be some Third World racism at work here.

Watch the video on the South African farms and pay attention to how the South African government insists that all positions have to have the same percentage of blacks employed as there are blacks in the population. The same thing was happening here.

        • … Hispanic prisoners being written up as white.

This is one of the biggest farces of all at the Department of Justice. It they did not purposefully conflate Hispanics and Caucasians, the White crime rates and gun offenses would plummet abruptly and people in general might suddenly realize why having so many illegal Mexican aliens crossing our border is such a bad thing.

  32. Houthis Refer 419 Companies, Businessmen to Prosecution (aawsat, Feb 27, 2018)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1188556/houthis-refer-419-companies-businessmen-prosecution

“Aside from looting Yemen’s public funds and hard currency reserves at the central bank in Sanaa, Houthis militias have imposed new laws and regulations that further hamper the economy.

This week, Houthis referred more than 419 leading businessmen in various economic sectors to the group’s public prosecution for mass trials to force them to pay huge sums.

These measures included all the commercial, oil, economic and service sectors. The group accuses businessmen in these sectors of not paying tax and zakat money.

Houthi official at a branch of Central Bank, under the militias control in Sanaa, recently banned local banks and exchange companies from trading with about 700 companies and businessmen, after they have been blacklisted for not paying royalties required to finance war effort.

The group has set a deadline of one week for the banking authorities to disclose the various financial transactions of these trading entities…”

  33. Sisi Says Surprised with the Amount of Terrorists’ Equipment in Sinai, No Alternative to their Defeat (aawsat, Feb 27, 2018)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1188606/sisi-says-surprised-amount-terrorists%E2%80%99-equipment-sinai-no-alternative-their

“Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi vowed to eradicate terrorists in northern Sinai and told the Egyptian army leaders that there was no alternative to defeating them and clearing the province from extremist groups.

Sisi made his remarks on Sunday during the inauguration of the East of the Suez Canal Counter-Terrorism Command, in the presence of top state and army officials.

Terrorist operations in Sinai have not been carried out in two or three years, according to Sisi, but have been orchestrated over more than 15 years within plans to take the country towards the abyss.

“With all the efforts of the armed forces and the intelligence bodies, we are surprised that there are things we did not know,” he said.

“Over the past three months, it was revealed that the size of the terrorists’ infrastructure – including equipment and preparations – was huge.”

The Egyptian Army and interior ministry forces have launched extensive moves within the “Sinai Comprehensive Operation 2018,” which has covered the different parts of the country, according to reports by military officials.

Several senior state and army officials attended Sunday’s inauguration event, including Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defense Sodki Sobhi, Army Chief of Staff Mohamed Farid and others.

A statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said: “The inauguration of the Eastern Suez Canal counter-terrorism command comes within the framework of developing the Armed Forces’ capabilities to carry out their sacred duty of protecting the homeland with maximum efficiency.”

“The president was briefed on the forces and the command’s facilities before he visited the East of the Canal Command’s headquarters, where tactics for Operation Sinai 2018 are planned,” the statement added.

In what appeared to be a presidential response to media reports, mostly Israeli, about an exchange of land with Egypt that would allow the settlement of Palestinians in the Sinai, Sisi cautioned that no one would abandon Sinai.

He explained: “No one misleads the Egyptians; this is our land, and we will allow no one to have ambitions in it, and will continue to build it.”

In November Israeli Minister of Social Equality Gila Gamliel said that Sinai was “the best place for the Palestinians to live in.”

Her statement caused a stir in Egypt, prompting Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to respond by asserting that Egyptian domestic affairs should not be “included in any statements by foreign parties most importantly when these statements touch Egyptian sovereignty.”

“The Egyptian land of Sinai has been irrigated by the bloods of Egyptian martyrs who were killed while they were fighting for its liberation…Giving up on Sinai is not a matter of discussion,” Shoukry stated.”

  34. Obama Secret MIT Speech Calls for Internet Censorship
    February 27, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

Noises like this have emerged out of Obama’s censorhole before, but he’s being clearer about it now in that secret MIT speech that no one was supposed to ever talk about. Much of it is the usual gladhandling nonsense, but there are some deeply troubling lines.

Obama described social media platforms as a “hugely powerful potential force for good,” but then immediately hedged. “What’s also true is that our social media platforms are just a tool,” he said. “ISIS can use that tool. Neo-Nazis can use that tool.

That is of course true of speech in general.

“I do think the large platforms—Google and Facebook being the most obvious, Twitter and others as well, are part of that ecosystem—have to have a conversation about their business model that recognizes they are a public good as well as a commercial enterprise.”

Describing Facebook and Google as a public good is an interesting legal perspective. One that makes Google and Facebook a little gladder that Obama is no longer in the White House.

      • Imagine announcing “off the record” to the MIT community.
Something otherwise overlooked completely is guaranteed to yield multiple records. In every conceivable format, in real time.

MIT is mostly oblivious to the celebrities that come and go. Part of the culture.

  35. Women protesting against wearing the hijab in Iran will be charged with inciting PROSTITUTION and jailed for up to ten years as regime cracks down on growing dissent (dailymail, Feb 27, 2018)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5440775/Anti-hijab-protesters-Iran-inciting-PROSTITUTION.html

“Iranian women protesting the compulsory headscarf by taking off their hijab in public could be facing up to a decade in jail for ‘inciting prostitution’, police has warned.

Authorities in Iran are desperately trying to stem the growing protests across the country against the dress code enforced on women since the Islamic revolution of 1979.

More than 35 women have been arrested in the capital Tehran alone in the past two months, with several reportedly subjected to torture while in custody.

At least two of the arrested protesters, Narges Hosseini and Shaparak Shajarizadeh, are being charged with ‘inciting corruption and prostitution’, Amnesty International reports.

Ms Shajarizadeh was arrested last Wednesday and has reportedly been subjected to beatings in prison.

Activists claim she was also ‘injected with an unknown substance by the prison authorities’ upon her arrest.

Ms Hosseini was arrested just over a month ago and has since been in custody in unknown conditions.

If they are found guilty of inciting corruption and prostitution, they could face up to ten years in prison.

‘This is a deeply retrograde move by the Iranian authorities in their ongoing persecution of women who dare to speak out against compulsory veiling,’ said Magdalena Mughrabi, Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International.

It places many women at serious and immediate risk of unjust imprisonment while sending a chilling message to others to keep quiet while their rights are being violated.

‘In compelling women and girls to cover their hair, the Iranian authorities have violated women’s human rights in Iran for decades and also deeply hurt women’s dignity.

‘Rather than threatening women with jail terms for claiming their human rights, the authorities should immediately abolish the discriminatory, abusive and degrading laws and practices of compulsory veiling.’…”

  36. Glimpsing the “New Europe” in Prague
    What might have been.
    February 27, 2018
    Bruce Bawer

Tuesday, February 20. It’s our first time in Prague, and – except for a couple of visits to Berlin – K.’s first time on territory that was once part of the Warsaw Pact. Today, as we’re wont to do on arrival in a new city, we passed on museums and other cultural attractions, preferring instead to walk and walk and walk – to get a sense of the place and the people and start finding our way around.

After several hours of wandering along the winding streets and across cobbled squares dominated by churches, we came back to our hotel and had a drink at the bar. After two gin and tonics, I saw that K. had tears in his eyes. I looked at him quizzically. He could hardly get the words out.

“I’m so angry at my country’s government!” he finally exploded.

The country in question being Norway.

    K. explained. We had just seen a good deal of Prague, and had passed heaven knows how many thousands of people. Not once had we seen a hijab. Let alone a niqab or burka.

“In this whole big city, not one!” he cried. “And yet in that little town where we live – in the middle of nowhere! – you can’t look out of the window for a minute without seeing one.”

  37. Academia’s Assault on Reason
    “God is dead.”
    February 27, 2018
    Jack Kerwick

In academia, reason and its concomitants—objective truth, fact, and knowledge—are under fire courtesy of the postmodern leftists that dominant the professoriate.

From whence springs this animus against the classical ideal of liberal learning?

The initial impetus, it seems clear, was animus against the theocentric worldview—Christianity—within which the University came to be.

By the lights of the classical ideal of a liberal arts education, the essential mission of any institution of higher learning is the facilitation of the disinterested pursuit of Truth. Universities existed for the sake of cultivating within students the excellences of head and heart, the intellectual and moral virtues.

Notice, this traditional understanding relies upon an assumption that was taken for granted for much of the history of Western civilization, the assumption that between ontology and virtue—metaphysics and ethics, ultimate reality and moral goodness—there exists an indissoluble bond.

Western Man’s affirmation of the ontology-morality connection was most prominently embodied in what is widely known as “the Great Chain of Being.” The latter, endorsed by the ancients and medieval thinkers alike, is the idea that there are degrees of reality or being, and that the more reality a thing possesses, the more goodness it possesses.
