  1. Left-wing billionaire George Soros is flooding yet another district attorney’s race with massive out-of-state donations.

Soros has already spent just under $70,000 backing a primary challenge to Bexar County District Attorney Nicholas LaHood, according to campaign finance documents reviewed by The Daily Caller. LaHood is a Democrat but opposes sanctuary cities and said he supports Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s crackdown on cities that defy federal immigration law.

Soros has been boosting LaHood’s challenger, attorney Joe Gonzales, through a political action committee (PAC), Texas Justice & Public Safety. The PAC’s spending included more than $30,000 on mailers attacking LaHood.

One of the mailers attacked LaHood as “bigoted,” “racist” and “Islamophobic” in both English and Spanish. LaHood fought back by displaying the mailer in one of his own campaign ads and accused Soros of trying to purchase his seat.

    • BOMBSHELL UN DOSSIER UN aid workers raped 60,000 people as it’s claimed organisation employs 3,300 paedophiles

Meanwhile, the United Nations remains an organization that is thoroughly controlled by a specific culture (i.e., Islam) which is renowned for its practice of violent rape and pedophilia.

Perhaps, saddest of all, is that the UN will be the very last to admit, recognize, or.otherwise even confess to helping accelerate global (Islamic) jihad.

The widespread psychological damage being done is beyond profound. It is seeding several DECADES of active aggression and another few of gradual recovery which will Hoover up TRILLIONS (be it in € or $).

The fact that this general program influences the decisions of so many million other “fact finders” is is something of a “crimes-against-humanity” scale offense to me. That so much of this carries on with little to no protest remains entirely unacceptable.

  2. ST. LOUIS, MO — Sumner High School students are being treated at the hospital after an incident in the library. The students are in serious condition. Police tell FOX 2 that a 16-year-old student threw an unknown homemade solution at them.

Emergency responders are at the school located in the 4200 block of Cottage in St. Louis. Security at area schools is high after a mass shooting in Florida Wednesday.

    • Sounds like your standard muslim acid attack. Maybe dropping his genitals into this “solution” will determine its nature and cure his habit, although TBH it would be better for all that he was given a pork funeral.

      • A large number of pork funerals would stop all of the Moslem attacks and would probably send a lot of them back to the Middle East.

        • Yes granting Islamic funerals to jihadis is frankly, insane. Its more of an incentive than actually paying them. The pork wrapped corpse, or as they will come to be called, the Porksicle in colder countries, are a genuine, historically proven deterrent.

I do not understand why we would respect the funereal requirements of an enemy. Would we give a Nazi soldier a fully Ayrian burial complete with tiki torches and uniformed Nazis? And even this analogy falls far far short of the meaning and significance of thee burial rites of the jihadi who expects eternity in a brothel as a reward for his murderous activities.

          • Its coming, not as fast as we would like but coming. The only thing I will regret about this is the sausage and bacon that I won’t have a chance to eat. Not that I can eat much of either anymore.

  3. Britons are unknowingly eating Halal meat that is being sold without a label, says top vet (dailymail, Feb 16, 2018)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5398031/Halal-kosher-meat-ending-British-food-chain.html

“Britons are inadvertently eating meat from animals slaughtered while they are still conscious, a top vet has warned.

Lord Trees, who is a former president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, said the meat would mainly be found in pies and ready meals.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of sheep and poultry being killed without being stunned first. This has been attributed to religious practices.

But Lord Trees, a crossbench peer, said it was highly probable that some unstunned meat was entering the ‘standard’ food chain as well.

Writing in the journal Vet Record, he pointed out that many experts were calling for a law change so that all animals had to be stunned before being killed.

The issue is controversial because halal and kosher meat – some, but not all of it, from stunned animals – is an essential part of Muslim and Jewish practices.

Animal welfare charities claim killing animals without stunning them is cruel and causes unnecessary suffering. Muslim and Jewish leaders insist that religious slaughter is just as humane as stunning animals beforehand.

Lord Trees said: ‘It is almost certain that meat which hasn’t been stunned is getting into the normal food chain. Many members of the public are understandably not aware of it.

‘There is no doubt a substantial part of the carcass is sold into the normal food chain. Other people will receive that meat in a processed form…”

    • It helps for someone with expertise in animal physiology to weigh in:
      http://grandin.com/ritual/questions.diff.stun.methods.html
When the electrical current is applied across the head only, it causes a temporary loss of consciousness. If the animal is not bled promptly, it will wake up and fully recover.

      http://www.grandin.com/ritual/rec.ritual.slaughter.html
When the cut is done correctly, the animal appears not to feel it. From an animal welfare standpoint, the major concern during ritual (religious) slaughter are the stressful and cruel methods of restraint (holding) that are used in some plants.

https://forward.com/opinion/137318/maximizing-animal-welfare-in-kosher-slaughter/ [a lot of details from Temple Grandin, but this stands out to me because it shows a view of the overall picture of animal welfare: A lamb that is slaughtered with a sharp knife out on the farm, even without stunning, probably has better welfare than a lamb that has to ride on a truck to a slaughter plant. ]

The policy-makers responsible for this (self-inflicted) “stealth jihad” must be outed and hounded from office, STAT.

Regardless of who walks away breathing from Europe’s pending civil war, these appeasing apparatchiks will have the blood of millions of lives on their collective hands. As in; neither side will emerge (even minorly) unscathed from this looming conflict. Simultaneously, the treachery of these Socialist termites has exacerbated every last possible negative aspect of this clash in the very worst way. It has been done in a manner that amounts to voluntary, with-full-knowledge-before-the-fact, socioeconomic sabotage.

By facilitating a medium-scale (i.e., “soft”) invasion of Europe’s heartland, these political wonks have set the stage for conflict on an unimaginable scale. What if Turkey decides to send in troops because its deems that their expat gastarbeiters need defending from restive indigenous European mobs?

What if various violent Islamic countries like Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon or Syria decide that their brothers-cast-on-foreign-shores are in need of “freedom fighters” to help sway the balance of power? Topping all of this, it’s abundantly clear that the EU will not have functional border controls anytime soon. Eh?

Is there the slightest indication that Europe could even manage to gather up its skirts (after removing several unwashed, groping Nafri hands) and make itself militarily defensible? It’s as if EU political leadership has decided that collective suicide, through involuntary demographic displacement, is a superior form of racial self-redemption for centuries of colonization that (regardless of its gross flaws) brought education, infrastructure, and economic development to much of the Third World.

That the EU has made it a “business” of social engineering is the root and branch of this entire problem. Governments have no place in the Business World™ (nor, for that matter, in social engineering or other such anthropological enterprises).

Their sole purpose (as a government) is to prudently expend equitably collected taxes in a manner that adequately assures judicious enforcement of commercial or personal contracts, assembles the military strength necessary to properly defend its electorate, and while doing so, maintain standards of product quality and performance that pose the least interference to those goals.

Believe it or not, jewels like Rule of Law™, Due Process, and all sorts of other splendid Constitutional artifacts shake straight out of this concise job description. If fact, the EU’s current shit storm predicament is a direct byproduct of Socialist governments being unable to keep their noses out of Free Market Economics even as they cannot halt their ironic, voyeuristic intrusion upon the daily lives and morals of their various electorates.

What this recipe promises is unlikely to show up in a Michelin-starred restaurant. It is a slop bucket of ham-fisted, and poorly considered “afterthought engineering” that easily threatens to collapse centuries of European Enlightenment.

The prospect of our world losing this “jewel-in-the-crown” of Western Eurpean Civilization—especially to ravening hordes of Iron-Age, rapist loons— is revolting beyond description. Even more horrific is how I do not seem to flinch at the scope of whatever mass-slaughter may be needed to prevent this monstrous vandalism.

With all sincerity, only the most fatuous-minded Pollyannas could pretend that this modern-day invasion of Europe will have anything approaching a “happy ending”. Instead, it is the usual unsustaining framework of constant conflict and endless inequality that brackets so much of modern politics.

“Since the International Criminal Court began collecting material three months ago for a possible war crimes case involving Afghanistan, it has gotten a staggering 1.17 million statements from Afghans who say they were victims.

The statements include accounts of alleged atrocities not only by groups like the Taliban and the Islamic State group, but also involving Afghan Security Forces and government-affiliated warlords, the U.S.-led coalition, and foreign and domestic spy agencies, said Abdul Wadood Pedram of the Human Rights and Eradication of Violence Organization.

Based in part on the many statements, ICC judges in The Hague would then have to decide whether to seek a war crimes investigation. It’s uncertain when that decision will be made…”

“The Syrian government reportedly rejected a request by the Kurdish self-government in Afrin to deploy troops to the area against an ongoing Turkish military operation, after the Kurds refused to lay down their weapons.

The proposed deal between Syrian authorities and Kurdish militias, who asked Damascus for military support against the Turkish invasion, derailed after Kurdish forces refused to comply with a precondition set by Damascus, an RT Arabic correspondent in Syria reported, citing a military source.

After the People’s Protection Units (YPG) refused a request to hand over arms to the Syrian state, the negotiations were cut short before any deal could be reached, the source said…”

    • Beijing Has Started Giving Latin American Generals ‘Lavish,’ All-Expenses-Paid Trips to China

Consider this a “last gasp” effort by Communist China to make some useful friends (i.e., allies) in the global community. For those who have not studied Asian culture and psychology, the intricacies of Beijing’s pitching Wu are both complicated and arcane.

Please consider how Red China is not in the habit of making friends or maintaining long-term diplomatic relationships. As part of its Marxist duty to destroy Western Civilization, the Chicoms have gotten into bed with truckloads of unsavory characters like Middle East terror clans and numerous tin-pot dictatorships.

To its eternal credit, the USA has been slightly more fastidious in its selection of erstwhile bedfellows (though not by much). All the same, Communist China is in the place of a notorious neighborhood bully who suddenly wants to play nice and throw a party because of an upcoming public misconduct hearing. Where is there any Sense of Charismatic Constitution, much less

More to the point: A side-by-side comparison of Chinese and Islamic cultures would reveal Muslim delusions of adequacy (regarding themselves being the Master Race™) as the most ludicrous heap of turnip tailings imaginable. Even Hitler could have told them this.

The Chinese have been at this “long game” for several thousand years. It is only the navel-gazing introspection of its long-ruling imperial court that averted their absolute regional domination. Most of its neighbors realize what it means to live near the dragon’s lair and keep their respectful distance (kowtows optional).

At the very least, this explains why far-away locations like Africa and South America seem more receptive to Beijing’s courtship, as opposed to, say … Japan, Vietnam, and other nearby witnesses to Chinese oppression.

As several African nations are only now-painfully discovering (see: Uganda: Oyam Women Stranded With Babies Fathered By Chinese), Communist Chinese colonization seems to come at a much higher price than that extracted by those accursed Europeans!

Where is there any Sense of Charismatic Constitution, much less presenting some sort of moral beacon to the world at large?

  6. Saudi-Chinese Rapprochement and Its Effect on Saudi-American Relations
[last paragraph] …Saudi Arabia is well aware that the role that China is playing in the Saudi-Iranian conflict is for China’s self-interest only; thus, Riyadh is not satisfied that Beijing will abandon its relationship with Iran in the future in favor of its relationship with Saudi Arabia. Riyadh also understands the dangers of a complete break from Washington and that this will not be in Saudi Arabia’s long-term interest. Therefore, Saudi Arabia will try to benefit from its economic relationship with China, while also maintaining its functional and security relationship with Washington.

Both Saudi Arabia and China are mindful that, given the presence of American ¬military bases in the GCC countries, Saudi Arabia and Riyadh will be unable to remove the U.S. from its position as the dominant military actor in the Persian Gulf. The Kingdom will also benefit from diversifying its major markets for future oil exports. What seems likely is that China, Saudi Arabia, and the United States will form a tripartite role in the Gulf that accommodates their shared interests without any party marginalizing the others or removing itself from the scene.

  8. White House: New bipartisan DACA plan “giant amnesty”

Is the “Common Sense Caucus” a triumph of marketing over accuracy? The White House has been very clear on the terms it will accept for granting a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and normalization of the program. They want a border wall and an end to broad family-unification or “chain migration” practices in order to keep the problem from recurring. Donald Trump went so far as to issue a veto threat for anything that doesn’t fully resolve the issue.

    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1177276/un-%E2%80%98houthis-confiscate-properties-name-war-effort%E2%80%99

“The United Nations officially released on Thursday the final report of the Panel of Experts on Yemen mandated by security council resolution 2342.

The report accuses Houthis of executing their former ally President Ali Abdullah Saleh and “crushing” his supporters in order to tighten their grip on Sana’a.

Yemen’s financial system is broken, according to the report, because Houthis are controlling Sana’a Central Bank, collecting taxes, extorting businesses and seizing assets in the name of the war effort.

It also accused them of deploying improvised sea mines in the Red Sea, which represent a hazard for commercial shipping and sea lines of communication that could remain for as long as 6 to 10 years, threatening imports to Yemen and access for humanitarian assistance through the Red Sea ports.

Iran is in non-compliance with paragraph 14 of resolution 2216 (2015) in that it failed to take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of short-range ballistic missiles, field
storage tanks for liquid bipropellant oxidizer for missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles to Houthis, the report stated.

“After nearly three years of conflict, Yemen, as a State, has all but ceased to exist,” the panel of experts said in their 344-page report.

“Instead of a single State there are warring statelets.”

In the north, the Houthis are working to consolidate their hold on Sana ’a and much of the highlands after a five-day street battle in the city that ended with the execution of their one-time ally, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, on 4 December, the report added.

In the south, the Government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was weakened by the defection of several governors to the newly formed Southern Transition Council.

Regarding the violations of coup militias, the report said that Houthis have summarily executed individuals, detained individuals solely for political or economic reasons and systematically destroyed the homes of their perceived enemies. The Houthis also routinely obstruct humanitarian access and the distribution of aid.”

  15. Brazil Military Takes Control of Rio de Janeiro’s Security

Brazil’s military will take control of public security in the state of Rio de Janeiro as a wave of violence rattles the population and dominates media coverage ahead of this year’s presidential election.

President Michel Temer will issue a decree on Friday putting the military in charge of Rio’s security forces, his press office said in an e-mailed statement. An army general would be in charge even of the state’s civilian police, according to two sources with direct knowledge fo the order. The intervention, which requires congressional approval, will last until the end of the year, said the people who requested not to be named because the decree isn’t public yet. Temer will address the situation in a nationally-televised speech Friday night.

The move, the first of its kind since Brazil returned to democracy in 1985, is a response to growing demands ahead of the October general elections for a crack down on crime and violence. It may also provide an excuse not to vote an unpopular pension bill, because by law changes to the Constitution can’t be made while a military intervention is in effect.

MUNICH (Reuters) – Germany’s defense minister pledged to spend more on its military and the United Nations, but she called in return for other countries not to turn away from mulitlateralism.

Ursula von der Leyen’s remarks came days after U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis reiterated President Donald Trump’s demand that European countries spend more on their militaries.

In a speech on Friday to the Munich Security Conference, von der Leyen said Germany was prepared to play a bigger international role, by increasing its military spending and its contributions to the United Nations. But she urged the United States to stick to a multilateral path.

“We are concerned when we see that some partners keep cutting funds for diplomacy, development cooperation and the United Nations,” she said. The U.S. State Department has been subject to deep cuts under Trump’s presidency.

Germany’s memories of Nazi crimes in World War Two have generally made it reluctant to take a leading role in international security.

What happens when Italians make their entire country into a “no go zone” for immigrants? Imagine how much less convenient it would be to cross the Mediterranean when there no longer is that handy little 100 mile jaunt between Tunis and Sicily?

Most other routes to Southern Europe require a sea-crossing that is hundreds of miles. In effect, Italy is a major stepping stone for the Nafri invaders.

Now imagine what occurs when Italy completely deports all of its “immigrants” and closes its borders to all “through traffic”. How then will Northern Europe be able to send its parasitic horde packing? Again, Italians historically have displayed far less reluctance to employ firearms (and violence in general) so, once the political will is found to shut its borders, the aggressive defense of them isn’t much of a long-shot call.

Given their position as Europe’s premier “land bridge”, the Italians are equally ready candidates as first adopters (of harsh anti-immigrant policies) and become the first who cast off the lice-infested rags of this EU-staged farce.

Italy’s withdrawal and sealing of its borders would severely complicate Europe’s ability to shed its own flocks of predators. Brussels’ disdainful refusal to respect the cultural integrity of all member nations is creating a massive (unconventional) power vacuum into which will be drawn some very “results oriented” people. They will probably account for some of the most violent individuals, be they indigenous or recent arrivals. This vacuum—most conspicuous in Sweden, Britain, Germany, France, and the Netherlands—will constitute the epicenter of Europe’s next tinderbox.

The one slight difference is that Europe has flooded itself with people who, literally, have “nothing to lose”. Especially after having glimpsed the very high standards of European living, there is no way anyone could reasonably expect them to simply pack up and go home.

Instead, these invaders can only be expected to fight tooth-and-nail to hold and keep whatever slice of EU lifestyle that they can acquire. All of which, in turn, means that successfully dislodging these newcomers will require levels of violence not seen since WW II.

There is no small irony in how The Continent that colonized all others now finds itself colonized by invaders that would sooner burn down schools than build them or ever even dream of defending the civil rights of women and gays. Were it not for the courageous defiance of Hungary’s shining star, Viktor Orban, these would be dark times, indeed.

Things in Europe have deteriorated to such an extent that diagnosing its path to recovery is more a matter of triage than genuine strategic planning. All of which will cause upcoming stop-gap measures, and the EU’s habit of slapping Band-Aids onto sucking chest wounds, to escalate into scenes of unimaginable barbarity.

Finally, please never forget that the Nafris know exactly what they’re doing. They know that they’re routinely breaking the law, regularly violating cultural norms (including their own), brazenly gaming the system, and dragging Europe towards a precipice of massive conflict.

Were there but a few (DOZEN) more dissenting voices from their own ranks calling for more self-restraint, respectfulness, and common courtesy, my outlook might not be so grim. That there aren’t even similar voices making forecasts of violent retribution makes this just that much more worrisome. Instead, as with most ordinary Muslims, it’s just “keep sliding under radar” and let your victims keep kicking the can down the road.

What sort of imbecile microcephalics can pretend that there are not awaiting some of the most drastic consequences because of their starry-eyed and ham-fisted social engineering?

  19. French Government Accused of Following Islamic Law When Calculating Housing Benefits for Muslims (breitbart, Feb 16, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/02/16/french-government-accused-islamic-law-housing-benefits-muslims/

“The French government has been accused of following Islamic law, specifically one which designates guardianship of children, to determine housing benefits for Muslims.
The French housing benefit, known as CAF, is calculated on a number of factors, including the income of a household and how many children live in a household.

On the official website of the CAF, the government mentions a form of Islamic jurisprudence known as “Kafala” as being valid alongside other documents to prove guardianship of children, leading some to question if the government is following Islamic law.

Anti-Islamisation Front National MP Gilbert Collard questioned the French state giving legal legitimacy to what he called a “Quranic judgement”.

Describing Kafala as “totally foreign to any French legal norm” and arguing that such judgements are “directly derived from the Quranic law”, Collard asked the French Justice Ministry how Quranic law held any force in France.

Fellow Front National member and MEP Bernard Monot also questioned whether or not the policy was a sign of Islamisation.

French left-wing newspaper Libération put out an article to “fact-check” the claims of the Front National politicians and found that the French government does accept Kafala documents from countries like Algeria and Morocco in North Africa because such judgements have legal standing in those countries.

Islamisation has been a pressing issue for many in France for years, leading to the ban on the full face Islamic veils known as the burqa and niqab in 2010.

More recently, the government has attempted to ban other items of Islamic clothing like the sharia-compliant swimwear known as the “burkini”.

Front National politicians are also not the only ones pushing back against Islamisation in France. Last year, a group of conservative Republican politicians in the Paris suburb of Clichy joined together to protest a group of Muslims who had been praying in the street every Friday for months.”

“Facing a court-imposed deadline, French lawmakers have approved a measure that allows detention for asylum-seekers and their families, and limitless house arrest for foreign convicts who cannot be expelled.

In a contentious late-night vote Thursday, President Emmanuel Macron’s majority party pushed the measure through, despite reservations from many members. Jacqueline Gourault, of the Interior Ministry, said France had become a “rebound country” and that the measure was urgently needed before the June deadline.

France’s high court ordered lawmakers in September to come up with a definition of when asylum-seekers should be considered a flight risk and therefore could be detained along with their families. A second court ruling in favor of a convicted terrorist who has been held under house arrest since being freed from prison in 2008 added pressure.”

“Police say gunmen have shot dead at least 18 people in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state.

State police spokesman Muhammad Shehu says an armed gang ambushed a group of residents in Birani village. He says the bandits were mobilized by cattle rustlers who had been prevented from stealing cows.

Some local media reports put the death toll as high as 40.

The incident is the latest in a series of killings by armed men who attack villages in northwestern Nigeria to steal cattle.

Federal prosecutors say the man was detained Thursday in the central state of Hesse.

Prosecutors said in a statement Friday that the suspect, identified only as Abduqaadir A. in line with German privacy laws, is suspected of attempted murder and accessory to murder.

He is alleged to have joined al-Shabab in Somalia in 2012, undergone weapons training and then taken part in the killing of a person at a mosque.

The suspect is alleged to have later attempted to kill a member of the Somali government, who survived the attack.

After being detained by al-Shabab for failing to carry out the killing, the suspect fled Somalia and reached Germany in 2014.”

  25. The human cost of Elon Musk’s unrealistic expectations
By Joey Bradfield February 15, 2018

Elon Musk is allegedly going to send men to the Moon by the end of the year with SpaceX, all while saving the planet with Tesla. But at what cost?

As of last year, SpaceX had a $10 billion backlog of 70 missions. This month, the company excited many by successfully test firing its Falcon Heavy rocket even though it was slated to launch every year for five years straight.

As for Tesla, although it drastically missed its 2017 Model 3 production goals, the company managed to get 230,000 Model S’s on the road by working “night and day at maximum sprint pace.”

What’s more interesting than Musk’s sparks of showmanship is what occurs behind the scenes. Musk seems to be working his employees beyond capacity and in violation of regulatory codes to make up for his unmet production deadlines. When problems arise, time-strapped company officials appear not to give his beleaguered workers the time of day, much less a needed break.

Per a report from Worksafe last year, in 2015 Tesla’s rate of serious injury was two times higher than the national average, and its overall injury rate was approximately one-third higher. This would be far less a source of concern if Musk’s companies took appropriate measures to care for employees injured on the job, but often, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

  26. Leaked messages by WikiLeaks founder pour cold water on one Trump collusion theory
By LU Staff February 15, 2018

One theory of President Donald Trump’s campaign collusion holds that longtime Trump pal Roger Stone worked with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to release Democrats’ hacked emails during the 2016 presidential campaign.

A new leak of private Assange messages pours cold water on that idea.

In private Twitter messages exchanged in August 2016, Assange referred to Stone as a “bullsh*tter” who falsely implied in public statements that he was communicating with WikiLeaks, The Intercept reported Wednesday. The message was directed to an associate in a private group chat.

“Trying to a) imply that he knows anything b) that he contributed to our hard work,” Assange added in response to a news article that quoted Stone claiming he was in contact with Assange.

“I actually have communicated with Assange,” Stone told a group of Florida Republicans on Aug. 8.

By Joe Newby February 16, 2018

On Thursday, Twitchy reported that one of the still-in shock and grieving parents of the senseless Parkland high school shooting was a man named named Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter in Wednesday’s massacre.

At a time like this, one would expect all Americans to join together and grieve as a nation over a tragic loss of young lives. In the past, that is precisely what we have done. But not anymore.

Instead, Andrew Pollack has been the target of hatred from the “tolerant” Left because of the t-shirt he was wearing in a photograph taken Wednesday, before he knew his daughter’s fate.

The shirt is emblazoned with the message “Trump 2020.”

  28. Turkey: Protesters rally against US support for YPG during Tillerson visit

Turkish police attempted to control a crowd of demonstrators protesting against US support for YPG Kurdish militia in Syria, near the Ankara Palace hotel, during an official visit of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to the city.

Police herded the protesters away from the hotel where a conference between Tillerson and Cavusoglu was held. Officers reportedly deployed tear gas to control the crowd.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, to discuss the burning matter of de-escalation in Afrin and ease the strained relations between NATO allies and Turkey, after the second continues military operations in Kurdish-held areas in Syria.

Despite international outrage, Turkey carries on with ‘Olive Branch’ operations against YPG Kurdish militants in Afrin and plans for extended operations in Idlib province.

Turkey views the YPG, which is active in northern Syria, as an extension of the banned militant group the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

    • U.S. and Turkey agree to mend ties; Turks propose joint deployment in Syria

ANKARA (Reuters) – The United States and Turkey agreed on Friday to try to rescue a strategic relationship that Washington acknowledged had reached a crisis point, with Turkey proposing a joint deployment in Syria if a U.S.-backed Kurdish militia leaves a border area.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met President Tayyip Erdogan during a two-day visit that followed weeks of escalating anti-American rhetoric from the Turkish government.

While relations between Washington and its main Muslim ally in NATO have been strained by a number of issues, Turkey has been particularly infuriated by U.S. support for the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, which it sees as terrorists.

Turkey launched an air and ground assault last month in Syria’s northwest Afrin region to sweep the YPG away from its southern border. The United States has armed, trained and aided YPG fighters with air support and special forces, as the main ground force in its campaign against Islamic State.

“We find ourselves at a bit of a crisis point in the relationship,” Tillerson told a news conference after meeting with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday morning. He had met with Erdogan for a more than three-hour discussion on Thursday night.

“We’re going to act together from this point forward. We’re going to lock arms. We’re going to work through the issues that are causing difficulties for us and we’re going to resolve them.”

The United States has no troops on the ground in Afrin, where the Turkish offensive has so far taken place. But Turkey has proposed extending its campaign further east to the town of Manbij, where U.S. troops are based, potentially leading to direct confrontation with U.S.-backed units.

In a proposal that could signal an important breakthrough in efforts to overcome the allies’ stark differences over Syria, a Turkish official told Reuters that Turkey had proposed that Turkish and U.S. forces could deploy jointly in Manbij.

Such a joint deployment could take place if YPG fighters first withdrew to positions east of the Euphrates river, long a Turkish demand.

Neither Tillerson nor Cavusoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, directly responded to a question about Reuters’ report of a possible joint deployment to Manbij.

      MANBIJ
Turkey would be able to take joint steps with the United States in Syria once the YPG left the vicinity of Manbij, Cavusoglu told reporters.

“What is important is who will govern and provide security to these areas,” he said. “We will coordinate to restore stability in Manbij and other cities. We will start with Manbij. After YPG leaves there, we can take steps with the U.S. based on trust.”

He also said the two countries had created a “mechanism” for further talks and would meet again by mid-March to further hash out their differences. Tillerson said issues around Manbij would receive priority in the talks, acknowledging Washington had not fufilled some of its promises to Turkey on Manbij.

“The United States made commitments to Turkey previously, we’ve not completed fulfilling those commitments. Through the working group, we’re going to address that and Manbij is going to receive priority,” he said.

Turkey’s pro-government media has been particularly scathing of the United States over its failure to keep a promise that the YPG would leave the town once Islamic State was defeated there.

“But it’s not just Manbij. We have to think about all of northern Syria,” Tillerson said.

Tillerson said he recognized Turkey’s legitimate right to defend its borders, but called on Ankara to show restraint in the Afrin operation and avoid actions that would escalate tensions in the area.

He also said the United States had serious concerns about local employees at its missions in Turkey and called on Ankara to release a U.S. pastor and other Americans detained in Turkey.

  29. ‘Racist’ blackface TV sketch draws anger in China

China’s biggest television show has been ridiculed after it featured a “racist” skit involving an Asian woman with a painted black face and large fake buttocks who was followed around by a “pet monkey”.

The comedy sketch was shown on the Spring Festival Gala, an annual variety show, which is said to be the world’s most watched television programme with an audience of up to 800 million people.

The skit involved the male Chinese host being asked by a young African woman if he could help convince her mother that he is her boyfriend, so that she would not have to go on a blind date.

The woman’s mother was an Asian actress with her face painted black who arrived on stage with a fruit bowl placed on her head.

She was followed around on stage by a man dressed as a monkey with a basket on his back.

The sketch – which ended with the mother expressing in perfect Chinese Africa’s love for China and the Chinese people – may have been a well-intentioned attempt to highlight warm relations between African nations and Beijing.

However, it was lambasted on both China’s heavily censored social media and on Twitter.

“Cringeworthy at best, completely racist at worst,” said a Tweet from Parthepan.

“It’s Africa, so bring out tribal dancers & animals? And was that a Chinese woman in blackface with a fake posterior?”[…]

A skit on China’s biggest Lunar New Year TV show has sparked widespread criticism and accusations of racism.

In a comedy routine celebrating Chinese-African ties an Asian actress appears in blackface and with exaggerated buttocks.

Using make-up to lampoon black people – a practice known as blackface – is seen by many as deeply offensive.

The annual state media variety show is hugely popular, and has up to 800 million viewers.

[…]The skit praises Chinese-African cooperation, showing how much Africans benefit from Chinese investment and how grateful they are to Beijing. At one stage, the character of the African mother exclaims how much she loves China.

China has over the past years stepped up investment into many African countries. The sketch was set around people working on the Nairobi-Mombasa railway project.

cbsnews – Rod Rosenstein to announce indictments of Russians in U.S. election meddling – live updates

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is announcing Friday the indictment of Russian nationals and entities accused of breaking U.S. laws to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, CBS News’ Paula Reid reports.

On Friday, a D.C. federal grand jury returned an indictment against the Internet Research Agency, a Russian organization which has connections to Russian President Vladimir Putin — it names 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities that accuses them of violating U.S. criminal laws to meddle in U.S. elections and political processes. According to a spokesman for the special counsel’s office, the indictment charges all of the defendants with conspiracy to defraud the U.S., as well as “three defendants with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and five defendants with aggravated identity theft.”

According to the indictment, “Some Defendants, posing as U.S. persons and without revealing their Russian association, communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign and with other political activists to seek to coordinate political activities.”

Working with the Internet Research Agency, the defendants “posted derogatory information” about several candidates, the indictment says, and by mid-2016, their efforts included “supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaging Hillary Clinton,” the indictment says.

Starting around 2014, the defendants began to track and study groups on U.S. social media dedicated to American politics and social issues. They used metrics to track the performance of various social media groups. They then travelled to the U.S. (or in some cases, tried to travel to the U.S.) to collect intelligence for their interference operations. They posted as Americans and contacted U.S. political and social activists and learned they should target “purple” states, those that were undecided in the campaign.

They created hundreds of social media accounts and used them to develop fictitious U.S. personas into “leaders of opinion in the U.S.” The defendants worked day and night shifts to pump out messages, controlling pages targeting a range of issues, including immigration, Black Lives Matter, and they amassed hundreds of thousands of followers. They set up and used servers inside the U.S. to mask the Russian origin of the accounts. The Internet Research Agency employed hundreds of people for these purposes — administrators, creators of personas, technical support — and spent the equivalent of millions of dollars for these efforts.

In addition to disparaging Clinton, they denigrated other candidates, “such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio,” and they supported Bernie Sanders and then Donald Trump. In the latter half of 2016, they used groups to discourage minorities from voting in the 2016 presidential election.

Thousands attended protest organized by Russians on Facebook

Thousands of Americans attended a march last November organized by a Russian group that used social media to interfere in the 2016 election.

The demonstration in New York City, which took place a few days after the election, appears to be the largest and most successful known effort to date pulled off by Russian-linked groups intent on using social media platforms to influence American politics.

Sixteen thousand Facebook users said that they planned to attend a Trump protest on Nov. 12, 2016, organized by the Facebook page for BlackMattersUS, a Russian-linked group that sought to capitalize on racial tensions between black and white Americans. The event was shared with 61,000 users.

As many as 5,000 to 10,000 protesters actually convened at Manhattan’s Union Square. They then marched to Trump Tower, according to media reports at the time.

The BlackMattersUS-organized rally took advantage of outrage among groups on the left following President Trump’s victory on Nov. 8 to galvanize support for its event. The group’s protest was the fourth consecutive anti-Trump rally in New York following election night, and one of many across the country.

“Join us in the streets! Stop Trump and his bigoted agenda!” reads the Facebook event page for the rally. “Divided is the reason we just fell. We must unite despite our differences to stop HATE from ruling the land.”

[…]The group reportedly recruited Americans who were unaware of its links to Russian actors to help its mobilizing efforts and organize these events.[…]

    • reuters-Russia calls U.S. allegations of election meddling absurd

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Allegations by the United States that Russian nationals interfered in U.S. elections are absurd, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.

A U.S. federal grand jury on Friday indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities accused of interfering with U.S. elections and political processes.

“13 people interfered in the U.S. elections?! 13 against an intelligence services budget of billions? Against intelligence and counterintelligence, against the latest developments and technologies? Absurd? Yes,” Zakharova wrote in a post on Facebook.

zero hedge – Russia Responds To “Absurd” Election Meddling Allegations

The indictment of 13 Russian nationals and three entities over allegations by the DOJ that Russians interfered in US elections – but “did not alter the outcome of the 2016 election” nor that any American was a knowing participant in this activity – are absurd, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.

“13 people interfered in the US elections?! 13 against an intelligence services budget of billions? Against intelligence and counterintelligence, against the latest developments and technologies? Absurd? Yes,” Zakharova wrote in a post on Facebook.

Then again, what else could she say.

Furthermore, as noted in the DOJ complaint, the funding for the Russian operation came from catering and management companies controlled by defendant Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin, a Russian businessman often referred to as “Putin’s chef” in the media because his organizations had hosted dinners for Russian President Vladimir Putin and foreign leaders, the AP reported.

Prigozhin was quoted in Russian state media responding to the indictments, saying, “Americans are really impressionable people. They see what they want to see. I greatly respect them. I’m not upset at all that I am on this list. If they want to see the devil, let them see him.”

This probably means that Russia will not exactly rush to extradite the 13 named officials to the US. Although, judging by the pic below, one is already deeply embedded within US society…

Moscow Slams US’ New “Meddling” Allegations as Absurd

The United States has filed charges against 13 Russian individuals and three entities for purportedly breaking the law with the intention to meddle in the 2016 presidential election. The US deputy attorney general said that indictment includes no allegation that purported Russian meddling altered the outcome of the vote.

The office of US special counsel Robert Mueller issued an indictment against Internet Research Agency LLC, stating the Russian organization engaged in operations to interfere with the 2016 elections.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the accusations of Russian meddling reflected the absurdity of the “modern American political reality.”

“The Internet Research Agency is a Russian organization whose goal is to interfere in elections and political processes,” the indictment says. It is noted that the persons against whom charges are brought are employees of the organization.

“Defendants and their co-conspirators also used false US personas to communicate with unwitting members, volunteers, and supporters of the Trump Campaign,” the document said.

“Starting in or around the summer of 2016, defendants and their co-conspirators also began to promote allegations of voter fraud by the Democratic Party through their fictitious US personas and groups on social media,” the filing said.

According to US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who announced the indictment Friday afternoon, the indictment includes no allegation that the purported Russian meddling altered the outcome of presidential election.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Kremlin is “not yet familiar” with US indictments for election meddling.

In 2017 the US Congress launched four separate probes into the alleged Russian meddling into the US elections, including investigations run by the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary committees and the House’s Intelligence and Oversight panels. Russian authorities have constantly denied all the allegations, and Peskov called them “absolutely unsubstantiated.”

    • bloomberg – Mueller Still Investigating Possible Collusion, Source Says

Mueller’s Indictment of Russians Unveils Sweeping Pro-Trump Meddling
Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his prosecutors haven’t concluded their investigation into whether President Donald Trump or any of his associates helped Russia interfere in the 2016 election, according to a person with knowledge of the probe.

Friday’s indictment of a St. Petersburg-based “troll farm” and 13 Russian nationals should be seen as a limited slice of a comprehensive investigation, the person said. Mueller’s work is expected to continue for months and also includes examining potential obstruction of justice by Trump, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss an investigation that is largely confidential.

A federal grand jury indicted the Russians for what it alleged was a vast scheme to interfere in the 2016 election and help Trump win. But Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said at a news conference Friday that there is “no allegation in this indictment that any American was a knowing participant” in the alleged scheme.

Trump indicated that he believes the indictment exonerates him and his campaign.

“Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong – no collusion!” Trump said on Twitter.

That has yet to be determined. Friday’s indictment should be seen as an effort by Mueller to raise awareness about Russia’s capabilities as the 2018 U.S. elections draw near, the person said.

It’s still possible that Mueller will indict Americans for knowingly helping Russia, the person said.

By contrast, Trump and those around him portrayed the Russia investigation as if it were all but closed. “I am happy for the country. Bob and his team did a very good job on this,” Trump lawyer John Dowd said, although he declined to say if the action clears the president.

      Shaky Ground

Rosenstein, who has been on shaky ground with Trump from the time he named Mueller as special counsel, offered a summary of the indictment that conspicuously skipped its repeated references to the Russian goal of helping Trump win the presidency and hurting his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

Instead, Rosenstein singled out a post-election example of efforts to create turmoil, citing allegations the Russians allegedly staged simultaneous rallies to support President-elect Trump and “to protest his election.”

Asked if Trump officials had been “duped” by the Russians, Rosenstein, said, “The defendants took extraordinary steps to make it appear that they were ordinary American political activists.”

Still, implicit in Rosenstein’s words – and his appearance to announce the indictment – was an endorsement of the work of Mueller, who like Rosenstein has faced intense scrutiny. The indictments prompted a wave of statements from lawmakers in both parties backing the special counsel and demanding action against Russia.

      Congressional Reaction

Representative Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat who’s the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, said the announcement Friday should “lay to rest” assertions the investigation was a hoax and preempt efforts to remove officials involved in investigating Trump.

“At this point, any step President Trump may take to interfere with the Special Counsel’s investigation — including removing Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, or threatening to remove Special Counsel Mueller directly — will have to be seen as a direct attempt to aid the Russian government in attacking American democracy,” Nadler said in a statement.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Mueller’s inquiry must be allowed to follow the facts “unhindered by the White House or Republicans in Congress.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Republican, said the announcement underscored “why we need to follow the facts and work to protect the integrity of future elections.”

“Mueller just put Moscow on notice,” said Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska. “This ought to be a wake-up call to Washington: Putin’s shadow war is aimed at undermining Americans’ trust in our institutions. We know Russia is coming back in 2018 and 2020. We have to take this threat seriously.”

  33. Muslim student at Catholic Manhattan College: School overrun by Islamic proselytizing, Balkan Muslims in NYC are turning to jihad

I just received this extraordinary email from a Muslim student at Manhattan College in the Bronx. It is noteworthy not just for this student’s courage in thinking for himself and not passively accepting what he is taught either at home or at his far-left college, but also for what he reveals about the Balkan Muslim community in New York (“rapidly moving toward radical beliefs”) and about Manhattan College (“Every hallway, every classroom, every announcement, every email; contains an extreme amount of Islamic advertising”).

This is true not just of Manhattan College, but of colleges and universities all over the country. Likewise I’m sure that other Muslim communities in the U.S. are moving in the same direction as the one to which this courageous young man belongs. It won’t be very much longer before America begins to see on a large scale what folly the Democrats’ immigration and counterterror policies really have been, and what damage they have brought upon our country.
