Live’ Broadcast of Chinese Regime’s Grand Military Parade Pre-recorded
A huge annual military parade held at the Zhurihe training base in remote Inner Mongolia was a propaganda set piece, showing off the Chinese regime’s military might to millions of viewers in China and worldwide.
Billed by the state-run CCTV as a live broadcast at noon Beijing time on July 30, video footage showed Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping dressed in army fatigues as he inspected the parade from an open-top jeep. Wave after wave of troops, tanks, armored vehicles, missiles, and aircraft passed through as the video feed captured just about everything from perfect angles and with spectacular precision.
Except the video, instead of being broadcast live as advertised, was likely pre-recorded.
Tracking data on civilian flights in the area reveals the Chinese regime’s apparent false advertising. Civilian flight activity around the Zhurihe base at the time of the parade could be observed on Flightradar24, a website that shows real-time aircraft information across the globe.
Flightradar24 and other flight-tracking websites aggregate data collected from open sources and volunteers with scanners. Civilian and commercial aircraft are equipped with transponders that openly broadcast their location and essential flight information, and they are therefore trackable by the general public in real time.
Based on Flightradar24 data, numerous civilian commercial flights passed through the air space around or even directly above Zhurihe military training base during the time period when the parade supposedly took place.
For example, Lufthansa flight LH722, an Airbus A340-600 flight from Munich to Beijing, flew directly above Zhurihe at the exact time when CCTV was broadcasting the supposedly live footage of J-15 and J-20 fighter jets flying over the parade ground in impressive formations.
Chinese officials and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are unlikely to allow commercial flights to fly over a military parade of such magnitude, not to mention that such parades involve many formations of the PLA’s aircrafts—including fighter jets, bombers, military transports, and helicopters—flying over the parade ground.
When the parade actually took place, or at what point the CCTV recorded the footage, is unknown. The recording was likely done well in advance so as to avoid any embarrassment in the event that something should go wrong. The regime’s propaganda partially worked, however, as numerous international news media outlets reported that the parade footage was recorded live.
This would not be the first time the Chinese regime and its official media mouthpieces have faked a “live” broadcast. CCTV’s New Year’s Gala, an annual holiday program usually watched by hundreds of millions of Chinese viewers during the Chinese New Year, is noted for its practice of pre-recording segments of the gala’s performances, even though the program is billed as being broadcast live.
The annual military parade has been one of the traditions maintained by China’s communist regime to show off the strength of the PLA.
Another purpose of the parade is to demonstrate the party’s absolute dominance and control over the PLA, which by its very design swears loyalty not to the Chinese people but to the top leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.
Zhurihe is the largest training base in China, serving as PLA’s principle training and exercise ground, and is comparable to the U.S. military’s Fort Irwin National Training Center.

Amid new U.S. sanctions, North Korea’s “No. 2” official began a 10-day visit to Iran on Thursday that could result in the two sides expanding their ties.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported Kim Yong Nam, chairman of the Supreme Assembly of North Korea, arrived Thursday for the weekend inauguration ceremony for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
But given the head of North Korea’s parliament is expected to stay for 10 days in Iran, the trip is being seen as a front for other purposes, including expanding military cooperation. U.S. Army halts use of Chinese-made drones over cyber concerns
NEW YORK (Reuters) – The U.S. Army has ordered its members to stop using drones made by Chinese manufacturer SZ DJI Technology Co Ltd because of “cyber vulnerabilities” in the products.
An Aug. 2 Army memo posted online and verified by Reuters applies to all DJI drones and systems that use DJI components or software. It requires service members to “cease all use, uninstall all DJI applications, remove all batteries/storage media and secure equipment for follow-on direction.”

US State Department wonks had managed to mislay or lose their Lenovo laptops—regularly loaded with sensitive classified material—with such alarming frequency that State voluntarily requested the Chinese manufacturer to include an “auto-kill” feature that allowed a ThinkPad owner to dial up their computer and set it to password lock the moment anyone else attempted to bring it online.
None of which counteracts somebody merely booting up the device, in an environment shielded from any LAN (Local Area Network) connections, and slowly cracking the password, then decrypting and examining all of the documents contained therein.

Republican donor from Virginia Beach sues GOP, accusing the party of fraud over failed Obamacare repeal

A retired attorney in Virginia Beach is so incensed that Republicans couldn’t repeal the Affordable Care Act that he’s suing to get political donations back, accusing the GOP of fraud and racketeering.
Bob Heghmann, 70, filed a lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court, saying the national and Virginia Republican parties and some GOP leaders raised millions of dollars in campaign funds while knowing they weren’t going to be able to overturn the law also known as Obamacare.
The GOP “has been engaged in a pattern of Racketeering which involves massive fraud perpetrated on Republican voters and contributors as well as some Independents and Democrats,” the suit said. Racketeering, perhaps better known for use in prosecuting organized crime, involves a pattern of illegal behavior by a specific group.
The lawsuit lists as defendants the Republican National Committee and Virginia’s two national GOP committee members, Morton Blackwell and Cynthia Dunbar, as well as the Republican Party of Virginia and state party Chairman John Whitbeck.

Standing up for a cause: Baltimore hopes for a 72-hour ceasefire
Devrone McKnight was driving home from Maryland Shock Trauma on Friday afternoon when he spotted three dozen people on Edmondson Avenue rallying to support a 72-hour ceasefire to violence in Baltimore.
The 23-year-old McKnight said he felt compelled to join the demonstration, given that he had a bullet still lodged in his neck after he was shot Thursday about 10 blocks south of the ceasefire event.
“Somebody pulled up and shot me on my way to work,” said McKnight, still dressed in green hospital scrubs, socks and slippers. “People need to put the guns down and stand up for a cause. It’s crazy.”

China ups ante in high-altitude standoff with India

China has stepped up its rhetoric in an increasingly tense border row with India, hinting at the possibility of military action in a propaganda push that analysts are calling “genuinely troubling.”
For more than a month, Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a standoff on a remote but strategically important Himalayan plateau near where Tibet, India and Bhutan meet.
On Thursday, Chinese defence ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang warned that Beijing had shown restraint but had a “bottom line.”
“No country should underestimate the Chinese forces’… resolve and willpower to defend national sovereignty,” he said in a post on the ministry website.
It is a line that has been echoed almost word for word this week by the foreign ministry, the official Xinhua news agency, the ruling Communist Party mouthpiece the People’s Daily, the official military news website of the Chinese armed forces, and other outlets.

China is pushing hard all around the world, they have wanted more land in the mountains ever since they stole a large part of India in 1962. The good thing about this tension is that if forces China to split their Army between India and North Korea. I still wonder how many new troops they have moved into the area opposite Taiwan, around the turn of the Century there was a study done showing that China could use fishing and seized commerical ships to perform a successful seaborne invasion of Taiwan. Since then they have added dedicated sea borne invasion assets to their Navy.

Like the army of Saddam-era Iraq, there is little in the way of “live fire” exercises, actual pilot flight time, or full-scale maneuvers. Please recall how two of the world’s largest standing armies, Iran and Iraq, fought for eight solid years, only to reach a blood-drenched stalemate. America rolled up Iraq’s sidewalks in a few weeks.
There is the equally serious issue of troop morale and, especially, irreplacable “unit cohesion” which, typically, requires a lot of active field work to strengthen.
Also, political preference (i.e., Communist Party membership), the presence of “political advisors” (enforcing PC behavior), mirrors the Arab tendency to promote officers based on family ties or flat-out graft. Having imams hovering around you can only be counterproductive, at best.
Although it is only a guess, I find it difficult to believe that, like Arabs, the Chinese brass do not suffer from a similar degree of “information hoarding” where crucial skills (e.g., bore-sighting a tank’s main gun) are not routinely shared. Lack of cross-training is pure poison for in-theater performance in the time of war.
Finally: Just like Islam, China is making too many enemies too fast.
Base run of thumb all Communist Armies suck and suck big time, one of their big weaknesses is lack of long term NCOs, NCOs are the institutional memory of the military and in Communist nations they are afraid to have some of the unwashed masses trained to the extent that a good NCO has to be. This means that the Junior. Officers have to do the NCOs duty along with theirs, and to an extent the Senior officers are doing the jobs the Junior Officers normally do. This problem is made worse by the political officers having the authority to veto all orders of the Senior Officers. In WWII before they learned that the Nazi’s were as bad as the communists several Soviet Armies shot their political officers and deserted in mass to surrender to the Germans. The Germans rearmed them and used them against the Soviets.

Too right! I had this discussion at another website about Warrant Officers and it was concluded that they are a major component of any military’s “institutional memory”.
PS: As noted before, I believe that Taiwan represents a serious “tar-baby” that could cause Red China far more harm than even the ginormous prize of (for instance), taking over TSMC, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, one of the LARGEST SOLID STATE DEVICE FABRICATION FACILITIES ON THE ENTIRE PLANET.
China will pay a dear price (e.g., breaching of the Three Gorges Dam) as the cost of absorbing Taiwan.
This is not to say that the Chicoms wouldn’t cheerfully sacrifice the millions of people necessary to achieve such a goal, but that callousness will forever taint any legitimacy of Beijing. As in, for a century or two.

Given the mess the one child policy has made of China they would (probably) welcome a massive reduction in the ir population as long as the communist party remained in power.

While this makes the population far more malleable, other vital traits like creativity, innovation, critical analysis, and inductive reasoning all have taken it in the shorts.
Ergo, even culling a huge portion of China’s population still won’t remedy these crucial shortcomings that underpin any possibility of China becoming a genuine Superpower.
After such a “thinning of the herd” another two or three generations would be required to obtain the variegation of personality types needed to make this sort of momentous psychosocial transition.

3,500 Brazilian soldiers enter Rio slums amid violence spike
SAO PAULO (AP) — More than 3,500 Brazilian soldiers are occupying a series of slum communities in northern Rio de Janeiro as part of efforts to combat a spike in violence.
The troops moved into the Complexo do Lins communities and neighboring Camarista Meier in the early hours of Saturday. Defense Minister Raul Jungmann told Globo TV that the troops would stay there as long as necessary.
Last week 8,500 soldiers were deployed in Rio to fight organized crime gangs, which control many of the city’s slums.
Brazilian television showed soldiers armed with automatic rifles sitting atop tanks as they patrolled the communities.

Southeast Asian states say Korea standoff threatens global peace
MANILA (Reuters) – Southeast Asian foreign ministers expressed grave concern on Saturday about rising tensions on the Korean peninsula stemming from long-range missile tests by North Korea that “seriously threaten” global peace and security.
Taking a stronger tone than it has previously on the standoff, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) called for North Korea to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions on its nuclear program, and make a positive contribution to regional peace.
The statement was issued separately, rather than included in ASEAN’s customary communique at the end of the foreign ministers meeting.
Following the foreign ministers meeting is Monday’s annual ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), which gathers 27 foreign ministers — including those of Russia, Japan, South Korea, the United States, China and North Korea — to discuss Asian security issues.

Venezuelan chief prosecutor’s office blocked by security forces
CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuelan security forces took up positions outside the office of the country’s chief prosecutor on Saturday, a day after the government inaugurated a new legislative body that the prosecutor said was fraudulently elected.
Chief Prosecutor Luisa Ortega had asked a local court to halt the inauguration of the country’s new 545-member constituent assembly, citing allegations that the government fudged the results of the vote that created it. The assembly was nonetheless installed on Friday despite opposition protests.
The new legislative body has no checks on its powers.
It could re-write the constitution, re-arrange state institutions and allow socialist President Nicolas Maduro to rule by decree. Assembly members had said they would fire Ortega the first chance they got. It took less than 24 hours from the assembly’s inauguration for her offices to be cordoned off.
Ortega, in a tweet, asked the international community to denounce what she called “this arbitrary action”.

Inspector General with Treasury Dept. unveils a brand new Obama IRS scandal

Built into the Obamacare bill is a provision requiring the IRS by the end of June to notify people who did not have the minimum required health insurance coverage (MEC) that they were non-compliant and to inform them what is available via their state’s exchanges.
According to a report released by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration on Thursday, the IRS sent the letters late, skipped some people who were supposed to get the letter, and “misled” people about the cost of plans. (Note: Misled is governmentspeak for lying.)
The provision of Obamacare the report discusses (ACA Section 1502(c)) states the following:
NOTIFICATION OF NONENROLLMENT — Not later than June 30 of each year, the Secretary of the Treasury, acting through the Internal Revenue Service and in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, shall send a notification to each individual who files an individual income tax return and who is not enrolled in minimum essential coverage (as defined in section 5000A of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986). Such notification shall contain information on the services available through the Exchange operating in the State in which such individual resides.
The purpose of the IRS letter is to encourage Americans to comply with Obamacare’s individual mandate that penalizes them for not having the government-defined appropriate coverage.

CNN suggests that the Trump administration is sending out contradictory messages on its North Korea policy, but that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least not to the extent that CNN would have its viewers and readers believe.

of South Carolina told NBC News Tuesday that President Trump is considering the application of military force if North Korea continues to develop weapons that increasingly endanger the lives of American citizens. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said later in the day that the goal is to convince the North Koreans that the U.S. is not an enemy and pursue a diplomatic solution to the problem.
At first glance, the statements do appear to be very different, but a closer look at the rhetoric reveals that the administration’s line on North Korea is quite consistent, despite a few slip-ups here or there.
Maintaining that “all options remain on the table,” the Trump administration is pursuing a policy of “maximum pressure and engagement,” which involves military deterrence, economic sanctions, and international pressure, to bring North Korea to the negotiating table, de-escalate tensions, and de-nuclearize the Korean Peninsula. If diplomacy fails, a military solution may be necessary, but such a move would be costly for all parties involved.
“We are going to continue to work the issue,” Secretary of Defense James Mattis said in May. “If this goes to a military solution, it’s going to be tragic on an unbelievable scale. So our effort is to work with the U.N., work with China, work with Japan, work with South Korea to try to find a way out of this situation.”

Rush Limbaugh has an interesting theory on Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s fate after IT aide’s arrest
Rush Limbaugh on Friday took on the scandal that rocked Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s office — the July arrest of her former IT aide, Imran Awan.
Pakistani-born Awan, who was a longtime IT aide to former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Wasserman Schultz, was arrested at Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport while trying to flee the country.
He was charged with multiple counts of bank fraud which stemmed from an investigation of an information technology procurement scandal in the U.S. House.
Awan was the lead suspect in an ongoing criminal probe into security breaches within the House of Representatives that was launched on Feb. 2. He allegedly doubled charged the U.S. House for IT equipment and may have exposed sensitive House members’ information online. According to previous reports, Wasserman Schultz kept Awan on her payroll, even though he had been banned from House servers by Capitol Hill security.
Additionally, it was reported that Awan was still on the House payroll under Wasserman Schultz at the time of his arrest.
Limbaugh, for his part, questioned Wasserman Schultz’s explanation that she felt that Awan’s arrest was the result of Islamophobia.
“We are gonna get into a little bit more about Debbie ‘Blabbermouth’ Schultz and her IT staffer,” Limbaugh said during the Friday airing of his nationally syndicated radio show. “She gave an interview … and the way this reads, she went out of her way to keep this guy on the staff, and she goes so far as to say, ‘I really felt that he was becoming a victim of anti-Muslim bias.’”
He continued, “Now, this is the guy that performed all kinds of trickery when her own computer network system at the Democrat National Committee. The guy should have been fired long ago. Not only she didn’t fire him, she kept him on the payroll and kept him close. This reads … Well, I don’t want to go there, but it reads like there was something else going between these two than just a work relationship. That’s the way I’ll put this. ‘Cause this doesn’t make any sense, holding onto this guy knowing full well what he did, ’cause these flimsy excuses here that she is offering really don’t hold any water.”

There are three possible reasons for her not firing him:
1) Ideological reasons, she is a far leftists and was protecting someone who was hurting the US.
2) He has blackmail material on her based on some info he found on her computer.

Italy: Captain of seized Iuventa boat says she’s ‘speechless that this can happen in EU’
Kathrin, 33-year old captain of the confiscated refugee rescue vessel Iuventa, stated that she “speechless” at the Italian authorities decision. She was speaking in Lampedusa, Saturday.
According the captain, the rescue boat had an instruction from Italy’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) “to take on board two migrants that have been transferred to the Iuventa from the Italian coastguard ship.” She maintained that her crew had “followed the instruction” to take the two migrants to Lampedua.
Italian prosecutors widen investigation to include MSF over migrant rescues: source
MILAN (Reuters) – Italian prosecutors are investigating leading humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), a legal source said on Saturday, over its role in rescuing migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
Italian police on Wednesday seized a migrant rescue boat operated by German organization Jugend Rettet on suspicion of aiding illegal immigration.
A legal source now says that MSF is also part of the investigation over the alleged rescue of migrants carried out just off the Libyan coast when there was no immediate threat to their safety.
MSF said in a statement it had not been notified of the inquiry and that it stood ready to cooperate with prosecutors since similar accusations first surfaced in the press months ago.
“We hope any doubts can be dispelled soon to end this trickling of accusations that poisons the atmosphere in an ever gloomier situation,” it said.
Italy is under pressure to manage new arrivals because some 600,000 migrants have reached it by sea from North Africa since 2014. Immigration has become a potent political issue ahead of elections in spring 2018.
In a press interview on Saturday, Luigi Di Maio, who is expected to lead the populist Five-Star movement in next year’s vote, called for “an immediate stop to the sea-taxi service”. The Five-Star is ahead of the ruling Democratic Party in polls.
Rome has asked eight NGOs to sign a code of conduct for the southern Mediterranean, including a demand that they carry an armed policemen on board their boats.
Only four aid groups have agreed to it.
Italy’s Interior Minister Marco Minniti urged the four NGOs that have not signed the document to do so.
“Those who do not sign cannot remain part of Italy’s rescue system, though nobody is questioning the law of the sea and international treaties,” he said in an interview with Saturday’s Il Fatto Quotidiano.
“Because migrants arrive in Italy, we must find a balance between their rights and those of the country that hosts them. We need complete trust between those who carry out the rescues and the country that opens up its ports,” he said.
MSF said in the statement that it would respect most of the code’s tenets, but could not sign it as it neglected humanitarian principles and elements which it considers essential for rescues to be effective.

“Taliban insurgents launched coordinated attacks form three different directions on Sayad district in northern Sari Pul province killing at least seven security forces, said a provincial official.
Zabi Amani, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said Saturday that insurgents seized control of the strategic Mirzawalang area in Sayad district earlier in the day after two days of intense gun battle with the Afghan Security forces.
“We requested reinforcement for the central government, unfortunately couldn’t get any support, that is why the forces lost control of Mirzawalang,” said Amani.
Qari Yusouf Ahamdi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack in an email addressed to media.
Amani said that 10 Taliban fighters, including two group leaders, were also killed in the battles and four Afghan security officers were wounded.

BREITBART – In Final Days, Obama Admin Pushed Several Hundred Thousand Taxpayer Dollars to ‘Climate Change’ Museum
In the waning days of his presidency, former President Barack Obama’s administration oversaw the creation of a more than $300,000 climate change “museum” in a government building in Washington, DC, paid for by taxpayers and filled with displays that advance the idea that man-made climate change is a major threat, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations are necessary to fight it.
A spokesman for the EPA confirmed to Breitbart News the more than $300,000 price tag — $211,111 for the Smithsonian Institution to create the materials shown in the museum and $134,000 to renovate the space. (The Smithsonian Institution is taxpayer-funded.)
The content of the climate change exhibit, which opened to the public just days after Obama left office, was produced by the EPA Alumni Association, which compiled and presented it in a timeline-fashion, detailing the milestones of the regulatory agency since it was founded in 1970.
Called a “pet project” of Obama EPA administrator Gina McCarthy in an article about the museum the Washington Post published on Sunday, the museum is tucked into the lobby of the EPA Credit Union in the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center.
The museum does contain facts about the EPA, including that it was established by Republican President Richard Nixon and documents that the agency has put into place countless regulations affecting all aspects of American life, ranging from the cars we drive to how we heat and cool our homes.
But the museum also clearly embodies the ideology of Obama and his EPA, which was responsible for some of the most restrictive regulations — a number of which have now been overturned by President Donald Trump.
The exhibit pays homage to Obama’s signing the United States onto the Paris climate accord, which has since been undone by Trump.
The Clean Power Plan — Obama’s signature energy policy effort to regulate carbon emissions from American power plants — was also scrapped when Trump signed an executive order in March.
“There is no question that parts of the museum reflect an Obama administration-centric narrative,” the Post reported. “It includes a panel dedicated to the 2009 ‘endangerment finding,’ in which then-EPA administrator Lisa Jackson concluded that the agency was legally obligated to control greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change because they threatened public health.”
Here are some of the other items on display in the museum:
Environmental Justice — “In 1994 President Bill Clinton directed federal agencies to develop environmental justice strategies to address the disproportionately high and adverse health or environmental effects of their programs on minority and low-income populations.”
“Climate change is happening now. Strong evidence indicates that there are major changes in temperature, precipitation, and wind patterns that have lasted over several decades. The EPA works both to reduce the greenhouse gas pollution that causes climate change and to help communities prepare for impacts, including sea level rise, coastal flooding, changes in the length of growing seasons, and heat-related illnesses.”
“For air pollution, prevention is the cure. Using science and the law, the EPA creates policies and programs that less indoor and outdoor air pollution, greenhouse gases, acid rain, and other airborne pollutant threats to human and environmental health.”
“The EPA is exploring new ways to measure local air pollution while helping communities understand the air around them. Through the Village Green project, the EPA is building next generation air monitoring systems that also function as park benches in cities across the country. Village Green benches operate on solar and wind power and are made from recycled materials.”
Ironically, it was a career EPA employee who brought the museum to the attention of the Trump administration, according to the Post.
“I wanted to make sure that they knew it existed,” said Nancy Grantham, a career public affairs employee at EPA, who has toured the exhibit with at least one Trump official. “That’s just how I operate. I don’t like to be surprised, and I assume others don’t like to be, either.”
“Grantham acknowledged that the climate panels probably will be altered and possibly shelved, although she stressed that no final decisions had been made,” the Post reported.
“It should be no surprise that there may be changes,” Grantham said.

Every past EPA administrator is mentioned in the museum, with one exception: Anne Gorsuch, mother of Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, whose short and tumultuous tenure as President Ronald Reagan’s first EPA administrator was marked by sharp budget cuts, rifts with career EPA employees and a scandal over the mismanagement of the Superfund cleanup program.
And there is one small sign — literally — that has been placed near the entrance of the museum that shows a picture of Trump and EPA administrator Scott Pruitt.
“In the meantime, to make sure the current administration is represented, EPA officials have installed a large poster board in the museum, highlighting the agency’s new ‘back to basics’ agenda,” according to the Post. “It features a picture of Pruitt shaking hands with coal miners at a Pennsylvania mine and promises ‘sensible regulations for economic growth.’”
