Hungary ‘repeatedly ignoring EU orders’ to improve migrant camp conditions, watchdog says (express, Jul 31, 2017)

“THE Hungarian Government has repeatedly ignored EU orders to improve conditions for migrants in a controversial border zone camp, a human rights group declared.
Prime minister Viktor Orban’s administration has been accused of defying direct orders from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as migrants revealed they were “forced to get food from the dustbin”.
András Léderer, advocacy officer at the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, said: “This practice of ignoring the interim measures of the court not only breaches the convention and Hungary’s obligations but has severe effects on our clients and must end immediately.”
Eurocrats want member states to resettle 160,000 refugees from Greece and Italy under a forced allocation system, which was voted through in 2015 despite opposition from Eastern European countries.
According to documents obtained by Politico, the ECHR said Budapest must “place the applicants, as soon as possible” in an environment that complies with Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which states that “no one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
A spokesman for the Hungarian government said in a statement: “The Hungarian authorities have never ignored any binding ruling coming from any (international) authorities.
“Conditions in all facilities related to migration and asylum seekers come up to all international standards.”
The eastern European country introduced new rules that mean camp authorities are not obliged to provide food to migrants whose first application was rejected or cancelled.
A father, identifying himself as R, said: “Sometimes I was forced to get food from the dustbin near the lunchroom, I was very very hungry.”
The ECHR is allowed to make binding interim decisions such as this if there is “an imminent risk of irreparable harm”.
Hungary’s firebrand leader Mr Orban has made challenging the EU’s migration scheme a frontline political issue, characterising it as a fight for the future of Europe’s Christian values.
In a speech made on July 22, he said: “Europe is currently being prepared to hand its territory over to a new mixed, Islamised Europe.
“In order for this to happen, for the territory to be ready to be handed over, it is necessary to continue the de-christianisation of Europe — and we can see these attempts.
“This is the aim of Brussels’ continuous and stealthy withdrawal of powers from the nation states.
“This is the battlefield on which Central European countries are fighting today.””

Angeheizt durch die Deutschen, behandelt der künstlich entfachte Streit Polens mit der EU, im Wesentlichen bei uns nicht durchgeführte Reformen, die sich faktisch in nichts von den Rechtsnormen in Deutschland unterscheiden. Bei denen heißt es „Rechtsordnung”, bei uns „Demontage des Rechtsstaates” – wie es die deutsche Rechtsanwältin Anne Sanders für die Deutsche Welle formuliert hatte.
„Auf Bundesebene werden die Richter von einem Richterwahlausschuss ernannt. Der besteht aus Parlamentariern und Landesministern, die die Richter wählen, die dann von dem Justizminister ernannt werden”, gab Sanders zu. Wo ist nun der Unterschied? Das existierende System in Deutschland… funktioniert… länger, und… „außerdem gibt es in Deutschland etwas, was man eine Kultur der Unabhängigkeit nennen könnte”, hat die Rechtsanwältin Sanders dargelegt, ganz im Einklang mit der höheren, deutschen Kultur… In Polen ist es schlimm und es kann noch schlimmer werden. Dem nicht genug, sie will sich auch an den Medien vergreifen, die in Deutschland zu 99.9% von heimischen Konzernen kontrolliert werden. In Polen besitzen sie nicht viel weniger; in Deutschland ist es ein begründeter Schutz vor fremden Einflüssen, bei uns sei es… ein Anschlag auf die Freiheit und den freien Markt. Bald wird dieser „Autokrat” Kaczy?ski wohl irgendwelche staatlichen Organe gründen wollen, die darüber wachen werden, ob in Polen verkaufte Waren die gleiche Qualität wie diejenigen in Deutschland haben…
Die Deutschen schmücken sich mit Federn… Verteidiger polnischer Demokratie, polnischer Rechtsstaatlichkeit und polnischer Verfassung. „Noch ist Polen nicht verloren…!”, zitieren deutsche Kommentatoren die ersten Worte unserer Nationalhymne, einschließlich des Kanzlerkandidaten der sozialdemokraten, Martin Schulz. Im Kontext ihrer Bemühungen „damit es bleibt wie es war”, bekommt das alles einen verquerten, merkwürdigen Klang. Die Visegrád-Gruppe war für Berlin noch auszuhalten, die die deutschen Interessen gefährdernde „drei Meere”-Initiative sei schon eine leichte Übertreibung, jedoch die Annäherung zwischen Warschau und Washington…
Es sollte sich niemand täuschen, worum sich das Spiel dreht. Saudi Arabia says that calls for internationalization of holy sites ‘a declaration of war’
DUBAI (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister called what he said was Qatar’s demand for an internationalization of the Muslim hajj pilgrimage a declaration of war against the kingdom, Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television said on Sunday, but Qatar said it never made such a call.
“Qatar’s demands to internationalize the holy sites is aggressive and a declaration of war against the kingdom,” Adel al-Jubeir was quoted saying on Al Arabiya’s website.
“We reserve the right to respond to anyone who is working on the internationalization of the holy sites,” he said.
Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said no official from his country had made such a call.
“We are tired of responding to false information and stories invented from nothing,” Sheikh Mohammed told Al Jazeera TV.

For the second time in my life Richard, my beliefs force me to defend something truly repugnant to me.
I do not see a problem with a person who has a fixation on sex with children having literature based on fiction, drawings, animations or dolls so long as no actual children are harmed in any of his acts in any way,
I think it comes under freedom of speech, expression or sexual preference.
Children cannot consent to sex. So it must remain a criminal act for adults to entice children into sexual activities. But if there is no victim and its only symbolic, where is the crime?
If we assume that sexual preference is not a choice, and to a degree it is not and to a degree it is in some cases although I have no idea about pedophilia, then why criminalize things like sex dolls? Why not treat it as a sort of proxy solution rather than a crime?

IF a person has a hard wired proclivity, I think proclivity is the correct word here, then so long as it is not indulged at the expense of a living child, then symbolic activities should be considered within the freedoms a liberal society demands.

Kurdish Government Officials Meet with Trump Administration Ahead of Independence Vote

Amid questions of sovereignty and foreign influence in the Middle East, the Kurdish people have scheduled a vote of independence from Iraq later this year and are calling on the Trump administration to support their efforts.
The referendum is set to take place on September 25th and could give Kurdistan the self-governance that many in the region have pushed for in the past. This month, representatives from the Kurdish government met with the Trump administration to lobby support for their independence from Baghdad.

Nikki Haley: Venezuela Vote ‘A Sham’
U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley speaks out against the Venezuelan government, calling its election a ‘sham’.
She took to Twitter on Sunday, saying America won’t accept Nicolas Maduro’s attempts to rewrite the country’s constitution and create an illegitimate government.
Haley said Maduro’s election for a new constitutional super-body is ‘a step toward dictatorship’, and claimed both democracy and the Venezuelan people will prevail.
The U.S. State Department made a statement Sunday evening, condemning the Venezuelan government for the vote.
It claimed the new body seems designed to undermine Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination.

China hits back at Trump criticism over North Korea
BEIJING (Reuters) – China hit back on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted he was “very disappointed” in China following Pyongyang’s latest missile test, saying the problem did not arise in China and that all sides need to work for a solution.
China has become increasingly frustrated with American and Japanese criticism that it should do more to rein in Pyongyang. China is North Korea’s closest ally, but Beijing is angry with its continued nuclear and missile tests.
North Korea said on Saturday it had conducted another successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile that proved its ability to strike the U.S. mainland, drawing a sharp warning from Trump and a rebuke from China.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke with Trump on Monday and agreed on the need for more action on North Korea just hours after the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations said Washington is “done talking about North Korea”.

Richard: If China were really angry with Korea Kim would have stopped his provocation and wouldn’t be using a Chinese missile transport or firing Chinese missiles. That is what happened when Israel took out the Egyptian 40 mW reactor in Egypt. Everyone knew it must not be allowed to stand, but it was politically more expedient to have a US proxy take it out than Russia, who was the ally of Egypt at the time.

Revolt of the generals: ‘The Narrative’ driving the national security train

While preparing to write this post, I debated a bit about the right way to organize it. The post is about some troubling developments over the last week or so, suggesting that two of the top general officers in the Trump administration are letting an attitude of institutional resistance against the president be visible to the public.
I don’t doubt that professional life is very hard right now for these gentlemen. I do doubt that seeming to buck the president – or in fact bucking the president – is the right thing to do.
But I don’t want to make this “about” calling them out as individuals. For one thing, we have a tough time knowing how much of what we hear about the doings inside the Beltway is true. I’m restricting myself here to commenting on events there is verifiable evidence for.
For another thing, the pressure-cooker of a Washington in which every local institution is trying to bring down the elected president is enough to put cracks in most people. The problem is much bigger than personalities.

Those spoiling for Arab Spring-2 figure the “holy sites” as the perfect trigger. But those are all under the real control of the opposite camp, no matter the nominal gatekeepers.
That’s Saudi, Egypt, and Israel. A temporary alliance of sorts.
The U.S. is precarious: While PTrump is on “our side”, his cabinet and the operative departments are fully Deep State/ -MB. They’re loyal to their departments, the echo-chambers of globalist interests that have been running things for decades.
The Arab Spring-2 camp figure it’s best to act now. If they wait, the U.S. State Department configuration may become less reliable. Lock this thing up while Syria and Iraq are still serviceable distractions.
Contenders for power in the Middle East depend on the “Arab Street” as the essential weapon. The dog pack. Put them on the scent, give the command, Sic ‘em, and they’ll fight to the death.
Once the hounds are loosed, though, they’re not as easily brought back to heel.And the power-hungry have just as much affection for their “Street” as they do for genuine canines.
But whose voice counts about “holy sites”? To whom are the dogs loyal? That changes, and the barking just confuses things.
Where’s Al-Jazeera?!
Jordan is technically the administrator of the Temple Mount. But it’s compromised – perhaps fatally. Sources say the dwarf-kinglet is a self-indulgent drunk, a puppet of the CIA [which is solidly MB]. Al-Jaz did it’s part, but didn’t quite tip the table.
The Turk can pay the screamers and drape his bloody swastika flag over every alley, but the Arabs who count think he’s dirt, let him choke swallowing Europe. He can take Iran and Russia to hell with him, since that’s where he’s heading.
Right now the power rests with Saudi, Egypt, and Israel. And all of them violently oppose this Spring-2 plot.
Notice there were NO demonstrations in Egypt, the most populous and important “Arab Street”. Al Jaz (Qatar) has no traction there. That’s why.
Besides, el-Sissi keeps imams under constant surveillance, a no-nonsense kinda guy.If things have cooled at the Temple Mount, the next big chance would be for the Hajj to blow up in less than a month.
The Saudis must’ve read al-Thani the riot act. When al-Jaz asked the leading question, “How about internationalizing the Holy Sites?”

Defense and NSC are still looking at Iran as our ally. That weakens our real allies and emboldens the enemy. Because the Enemy is still sitting in the driver’s seat.
This is what we are facing with the Arab Spring 2, Iran and North Korea/China as a backdrop with all of them waiting for one side or the other to make a false step and touch off a civil war in the US so they will be freer to move in their backyards. There are so many possible permutations to the future that all but massive fighting is hard to see.
To say nothing about what moves Czar Vlad has planned for when things go kinetic. And we can add massive turmoil in Europe and South America to the mix.

So here’s how I see things through the Mideast prism:
Despite the noise, the Turk and Vlad are peripheral to the “holy sites” business. That’s the trigger envisioned for Arab Spring-2. Unless something else turns up.
Iran, on the other hand, is front and center. A major player on the A-Spring-2 team. That’s it for right now.
China is encircling the Gulf and making love to Iran. The New Silk Road: OneBelt, OneRoad, the Maritime Silk Road. Iran and Syria are critical to that scheme. That’s a long-term threat.
Russia comes in to the extent Vlad backs the mullahs. Probably less than they think, but who knows? He’d rather play Uncle to disenfranchised Euros, though.
He’s blowing hot and cold with China. They don’t trust him at all. The Silk-Road deal doesn’t jive with Vlad’s plans, but that’s long-term iffy anyway. He’ll watch, probably sabotage things through proxies down the line.

How low can Facebook go? Social media giant yanks page supporting veterans with PTSD

On Sunday, the social media outlet unpublished a page dedicated to military veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome. The page, titled “Freedom Don’t Come Free & Devildoc,” had over 173,000 followers. Facebook’s actions were purportedly driven by this image:

China: Paratroopers and rocket launchers mark opening of International Army Games
Footage showed troops performing drills at the opening ceremony of the International Army Games 2017 took place on Sunday in Korla, Xinjiant Uygar autonomous region.
Simultaneous opening ceremonies also took place in Changchun, Jilin province, and Guangshui, Hubei province. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed the participants of the ceremony with a video message.
The ceremony itself saw performances from paratroopers and gymnasts, as well as shooting from rocket launcher systems in front of an audience of some 5000 enthusiasts.

White House keeps failed ‘Countering Violent Extremism’ program
GEORGE SELIM PROMOTES NARRATIVE THAT ISIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ISLAM.
The Trump White House continues to support a failed counter-extremism office in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that engages fringe Islamic activists while rejecting Muslim reformers.
The promotion of “Countering Violent Extremism” (CVE) was initiated by the Obama administration as an approach to stopping radicalization from within vulnerable communities. CVE resources mostly focused on Islamic radicalism, but did not officially recognize the Islamic component due to the former administration’s politically correct approach.
On Thursday, the House Oversight Committee held a hearing on “Combatting Homegrown Extremism.” One of the panelists at the hearing, George Selim, is the director of “Countering Violent Extremism” at DHS. His office was established by the Obama administration in 2015. Before Selim went over to DHS, he was a lead figure in the National Security Council, working alongside Ben Rhodes and Susan Rice as the White House director for community partnerships.
In his position, Selim admitted to holding “hundreds” of meetings with representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim advocacy group originally founded as a Muslim Brotherhood front group to support Hamas, the U.S.-designated terrorist organization. The shocking revelations documenting the extensive relationship between the Obama White House and CAIR came as a surprise to the law enforcement community. At the time, FBI policy had banned meeting with CAIR due to its nefarious ties.
Instead of calling for reform within the Islamic world (a track that several Muslim world leaders and segments of the Trump administration now advocate), the Obama White House under Selim (in both his positions on the NSC and now at DHS) sought to protect Islam from the jihadi groups that wage terror in the name of the religion.
Selim told a House committee in 2016: “To be successful in our homeland security efforts, we have to underscore and reinforce the fact that ISIL does not represent Islam and cannot justify its barbaric terrorism with twisted interpretations of one of the world’s most prominent religions.”
Well-informed families and communities are our best defense against terrorist ideologies, which represent the current threat from ISIL propaganda,’’ Selim continued in September. “Within this context, working with communities to prevent radicalization to violence has become imperative.”
So, according to Selim’s logic, Muslim reformers are in the wrong, because they propose (like Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi) that a conversation must be had about Islamic doctrine as a whole.
As Andrew McCarthy explains at National Review, “CVE delusionally forbids the conclusion that radical Islamic ideology has any causative effect on terrorist plotting.”
The Muslim Brotherhood believes in essentially the same end-goal as ISIS: the installation of a worldwide Islamic caliphate. The group actually acts as a gateway to violent jihad. For example, the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, and current al-Qaida chief Ayman al-Zawahiri were once members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“The Trump Administration needs to understand that countering violent extremism as a policy runs against their vision of tougher counterterrorism. As long as the Trump Administration allows Obama holdovers to conduct outreach to Islamists like CAIR under the guise of CVE, the President’s efforts to make America safe again will fail,” Kyle Shideler of the Center for Security Policy tells Conservative Review. “Returning to a strong counterterrorism policy that focuses on solid intelligence and police work requires shutting down the White House CVE effort.”
The CVE strategy is dangerous for two reasons. Not only does it quash discussion over the connection between Islam and terror, but it empowers radical groups like CAIR to act as the voice of the Muslim community. This dangerous blend results in a policy concoction of political correctness and the empowerment of Islamic supremacists that threatens to undermine American national security. If the Trump administration fails to rid itself of CVE, it will succumb to an America-last strategy that has shown no documented successes in curbing terror and extremism.

France to set up migrant centers outside Calais after court ruling
PARIS (Reuters) – The French government will provide water and sanitation to migrants in Calais and open two reception centers away from the city, it said hours after a court ordered it to end what it called inhuman treatment of foreigners trying to get to Britain.
Less than a year after “the Jungle”, a vast shanty town next to the northern port city, was razed, migrants have returned, with charities and the national human rights watchdog fiercely critical of the squalid conditions they live in.
Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said there were about 350-400 migrants around Calais, compared with the estimated 10,000 who used to live in the Jungle. The two new centers to house them will be in Bailleul and Troisvaux, about an hour’s drive inland.
“We don’t want to repeat the mistakes of the past but we also want to handle the problems in Calais,” Collomb said, indicating a determination to avoid providing facilities that could draw migrants to the town, making it once more a hub for those trying to reach Britain.
Access to water, showers and toilets will be provided in the Calais area via mobile facilities, Collomb said.
Earlier on Monday, France’s top administrative court, the Conseil d’Etat, ruled that the treatment of migrants was unlawful.
“The Conseil d’Etat considers that these living conditions reveal a failure by the public authorities that has exposed these people to inhuman or degrading treatment,” it said in a statement.
“These shortcomings are a serious and unlawful infringement on a fundamental freedom.”
It said a lower court was within its rights to order the provision of toilets, drinking water and showers.
France has avoided the brunt of Europe’s migrant crisis, receiving a fraction of the asylum seekers handled by Italy or Germany.
While President Emmanuel Macron has called for migrants to be treated with dignity, his government has refused to open a new reception center in Calais, saying it would act as a magnet for migrants.
Last week, Human Rights Watch pressed France to end what it described as recurrent police violence against migrants in Calais. Collomb said there would be an investigation into police behavior.
The European Union is struggling to find a coherent answer to a migration crisis that has tested cooperation between member states. Macron has instructed his government to speed up France’s asylum process.

PARIS — France’s interior minister says that two centers will be set up to handle hundreds of migrants returning to the northern port city of Calais since a vast makeshift camp was shut down last fall.
Gerard Collomb also said on Monday that he ordered a report looking into claims of police mistreatment of migrants after Human Rights Watch alleged police regularly use pepper spray on refugees.
Earlier Monday, the Council of State, France’s highest administrative body, rejected appeals by Calais authorities against a court ruling that ordered the provision of basic facilities for migrants, like access to water and toilets. The Council upheld an order for authorities to help migrants who wish to move to shelters.
Colomb said there were 350 to 400 migrants in the area. Calais wants them out.

The poor conditions have led some migrants to develop skin diseases including scabies, impetigo and infected wounds, “as well as serious psychological troubles,” the Council found…”

It’s quite likely that you’ve never heard of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) and its radical agenda, but this Alabama-based organization has had its eye fixed upon you and your country for a very long time. For nearly 30 years, it has been working relentlessly to advance the notion that because the United States is so thoroughly awash in racist inhumanity, its culture merits no respect — and no defense — whatsoever. And EJI can’t be dismissed as some sort of fringe lunatic group that’s barely scraping by on a shoestring budget; its coffers are flush with cash. In 2015-16, one of the largest and wealthiest corporations on earth, Google.com, announced that it was proudly giving EJI a cool $2 million in donations. Half of that sum was earmarked to fund the creation of “civil rights landmarks” such as a large national memorial honoring the 3,445 black Americans who lost their lives at the end of lynchers’ ropes from 1882-1964, plus additional memorial markers that would be situated at the various sites where those lynchings took place.
You might wonder why EJI deems it necessary to now dredge up the memory of a horrific practice that last occurred in this country 53 years ago. One would think that an organization that truly cared about the well-being of black people, might be more concerned by the fact that in any given year nowadays, the number of black-on-black homicides that occur nationwide far exceeds the number of white-on-black lynchings that have taken place in all the years since the Civil War, combined.

The left’s fact check sites are partisan narrative factories. Snopes is the worst of the bunch. It’s unprofessional and largely uninterested in the facts. It also relies heavily on one obnoxious gimmick.
That gimmick is undermining actual news stories by spamming “fact checks” of crazy versions of those stories.
Here’s how the gimmick works.
A news story unfavorable to the left breaks. Instead of fact checking the story, Snopes finds some warped version of it, either mailed around, posted on social media or on some blog, and “fact checks” it. Since the media’s push to roll “fact checks” into Facebook and Google under the guise of fighting “Fake News” worked, that means the Snopes “fact check” now displaces the legitimate story.
It casts doubt on the actual story. Especially for people who don’t follow the stories closely. Especially those who think that checking with Snopes is shorthand for verification.
Thus, for example, searching for information on Soros’ behavior during the Holocaust takes you to a Snopes “fact check” of whether Soros was a Nazi officer. Considering his age and DNA, that’s not possible. The only purpose of “fact checking” an utterly impossible claim is to divert attention from Soros’ statements discussing how good and guilt-free his experience was.

National Post –Esseghaier terrorism case highlights tricky collision between mental illness and extremism

Chiheb Esseghaier spent months insisting he was sane. He did it in court, screaming through a tangled beard, spitting and pounding his chest.
“I am similar to the prophet Jesus and the prophet Joseph,” he howled once, explaining why he lashed out at a lawyer who suggested he might be ill. “I just throw the cup at his face because he is lying.”
Esseghaier, a Tunisian-born, Montreal-based PhD student, was convicted in 2015 of planning to blow a hole in an Ontario railway bridge. He also mused on tape about poisoning the food on a military base and setting off a volcano.
His arrest and conviction were hailed as landmarks in the Canadian battle against terrorism. But his case has since morphed into something much stranger and less morally clear.
According to multiple doctors, Esseghaier is severely mentally ill and almost certainly schizophrenic. He had long rejected that diagnosis. But in court documents filed this week, he revealed that he now agrees.
He’s undergoing treatment in a B.C. prison — including a regimen of anti-psychotic drugs — and is hoping to appeal his life sentence. “I believe I was unfit to stand trial,” he wrote in a document filed Wednesday in the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Esseghaier’s treatment and appeal have thrust his story back into the public eye more than two years after the conclusion of his trial.
The particulars of his case are close to unique, according to legal experts. But they effectively boil down to this: Everyone involved, from the police, to the prosecutors and the judge, believed he was a fanatic, so no one noticed he was insane , at least not until it was too late. As a result, he went through his entire trial without several key questions — about criminal responsibility and fitness to stand — being tested. He was allowed to represent himself, and mount no real defence, even as he visibly unraveled in open court.
“I think we were all somewhat guilty of assuming he was saying things a radical Islamist would say,” said John Norris, who represented his co-accused, Raed Jaser. As a result, few noticed that he was also exhibiting the telltale signs of an escalating mental disease.
Esseghaier and Jaser were arrested in 2013. Their bust was hailed as a major victory against terrorism, one that likely prevented hundreds of deaths. (Although the two were never anywhere close to consummating any plot.) The key witness in their trial was an undercover FBI agent who courted Esseghaier and nudged him toward revealing his plans.
The portrait that emerged of Esseghaier at trial was of a man who had let his life fall apart even as he grew more and more religiously devout. He was born in 1982, in Tunisia, and raised in a moderate Muslim family. He moved to Montreal in 2008 to pursue his PhD and soon devolved into extremism.
His newfound religious zeal dovetailed with a deteriorating personal life. He would spend hours in the washroom, but never seemed to bathe. He looked and smelled like a homeless person, according to one colleague. In recordings played in court, he rambled and seemed incapable of sustaining coherent thought.
Those are all cardinal symptoms of the early stages of schizophrenia, according to Dr. Hy Bloom, a forensic psychiatrist and expert on the intersection between mental health and Canadian criminal law. However, at his trial, Esseghaier’s mental health was effectively ignored, at least until after his verdict.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Michael Code allowed Esseghaier to represent himself and sat patiently through his long, often incoherent, rants on Qu’ranic law and other topics. Even as his behaviour grew worse — he regularly slept in court, was always disheveled and occasionally spat at lawyers assigned to help him — his fitness wasn’t questioned.
Only after the verdict came down, during the sentencing phase, did Code, at the urging of an amicus curiae, or friend of the court, allow a psychiatrist to examine Esseghaier.
Dr. Lisa Ramshaw found Esseghaier to be actively delusional and likely schizophrenic. A second doctor, reviewing Ramshaw’s notes, concurred. But Code nonetheless sentenced him to life in prison.
Esseghaier, at the time, angrily denied any suggestion that he might not be sane. That, at least, appears to have changed. In a document filed Wednesday, he informed the court that he was treated in prison with anti-psychotic medication, initially against his will, and now acknowledges that he has schizophrenia.
“When I originally filed my appeal, I said that I only wanted to appeal conviction. At the time I filed that notice, I was very ill,” he wrote. “I was suffering from delusions and believed that I would die, and my soul would ascend into heaven on December 25, 2014. Because of this delusion, I did not believe that the life sentence imposed was real.”
At the heart of all of this is a tricky collision between mental illness, extremism and violence. It’s not unusual, Bloom said, for those suffering from the early stages of a disease like schizophrenia to turn to religion as a coping mechanism. There’s also a significant historical correlation between mental illness and lone wolf terrorism.
At the same time, it doesn’t necessary mean that, in Esseghaier’s case, his mental illness caused his extreme beliefs. (Indeed, he’s still arguing now, after treatment, that he should have been tried by the “Holy Quran.”) Nor does it mean that Esseghaier was necessarily unfit to stand trial, or not responsible for his actions, because of his illness.
The problem is that none of those issues were parsed out before trial. And because they weren’t, the whole process may have been tainted. It’s a question of fundamental justice. If someone is severely mentally ill, the courts need to at least consider that fact before trying them and sentencing them to decades behind bars.
That at least is what John Norris believes. He wants the Court of Appeal to order a new trial for both Esseghaier and his client. That would come at a cost, he believes. “But it’s a much greater cost to the administration of justice to allow for the possibility that an unfit person was put on trial.”
None of this is likely to be settled soon. A lawyer assisting Esseghaier believes the full appeal won’t be heard before the middle of 2018 at the earliest, three years after Esseghaier was convicted and five years after his arrest.
When police took Esseghaier into custody, in April 2013, he was effectively homeless. They arrested him outside a McDonald’s in Montreal’s Central Station. In pictures from that time, he’s always wearing a faded blue ski jacket over a healthy frame, the same jacket he would wear in court. Day after day, it grew baggier; his body faded away.

Chiheb Esseghaier, an al-Qaeda terrorist backed by Iran, plotted in 2013 to derail a passenger train running from Toronto to New York. An FBI agent posing as a sympathizer tipped off Canadian authorities, who busted Esseghaier and accomplice Raed Jaser before they could blow up a railway bridge.
Before trial, Esseghaier acted strangely, comparing himself to Jesus and the prophet Joseph, and claimed he wanted to set off a volcano. On the other hand, he furiously denied that he was delusional, proclaimed his fitness to stand trial, and sought to be judged by the Quran because the criminal code was “not a holy book.” The Canadian court didn’t buy the argument and gave both terrorists a life sentence. Now as Richard Warnica of the National Post reports, Esseghaier is reversing himself.

The first four names on this list, of course, are the presidents murdered in office, in chronological order; the last embodies the seeming wish of many on the American Left that someone put him on it for real. As seen in the picture accompanying this article, Trump’s name is embellished with horns and a tail, and flames indicate that the president is roasting in hell: the protester left little room for interpretation.
The sign was held aloft for the duration of the event, in full view of the crowd, the media, the NYPD, and at least a dozen elected officials, but garnered no comment or acknowledgement. Perhaps historical literacy is so low that the sign’s meaning eluded most people, but it’s more likely that the pitch of outrage is keyed so high in leftist political rhetoric that the message on the sign was basically unremarkable—uncontroversial, even.
The way the left is pushing there is going to be an attempt to assassinate the President and when it fails the left will cry real tears because it fails.

German Muslims have established a self-styled biker gang — modelled on the Hells Angels — aimed at protecting fellow Muslims from the “ever-growing hatred of Islam,” according to Die Welt.
The emergence of the group, which aspires to open chapters in cities and towns across Germany, has alarmed German authorities, who have warned against the growing threat of vigilantism in the country.
Muslim vigilantes enforcing Islamic justice have become increasingly common in Germany. The government’s inability or unwillingness to stop them has led to the rise of anti-Muslim counter-vigilantes. Germany’s BfV intelligence agency, in its latest annual report, warned that an escalating action-reaction cycle could result in open warfare on German streets.
The militias are forming, first came antifa, now the Moslem Bikers next the Patriots will have to form one for self defense. We can expect the police to help antifa and at times the Moslems but they will oppose the Patriots.
This is nothing new. It’s just public awareness of the Grey Wolves.

Alparslan Çelik is a citizen of Turkey, born in Turkey, Elaz?? province, Keban district.
He is a member of the Turkey’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and its associated paramilitary organization, the Grey Wolves (Bozkurt). The MHP and Grey Wolves are both Turkish nationalist and Islamist. Their ideology is a synthesis of Turkish ultra-nationalist fascism and Islamism. They massacred Kurdish and Alevi civilians numerous times in the 1970’s-1990s because they were non-Turkish and non-Sunni.
His father is also a member of the MHP and a former mayor of Keban. He is a relative of Ramazan Çelik who went to fight in Iraq.

Turkish involvement in the Syrian war has been heavily dominated by Islamist fighters, but the conflict has also drawn in an unlikely quarter — Turkish nationalists. The far-right Nationalist Action Party (MHP) and its youth branch, the Idealist Hearths, have recently come into the spotlight with high-profile losses on the Syrian battlefield. The MHP is the main body of Turkey’s ultranationalist movement, also known as the Gray Wolves, whose hall of fame includes failed papal assassin Mehmet Ali Agca. The Alperen Hearths, the youth branch of the smaller Great Union Party, which represents the ultranationalist movement’s Islamist-leaning wing, are also visibly interested in the Syrian war.

In his visit to Moscow last week, Iraqi Vice President Nuri Al-Maliki peddled what he presented as his big idea: inviting Russia to build “a significant presence” in Iraq to counter-balance that of the United States.
Since Maliki is reputed to be Tehran’s candidate as the next Iraqi Prime Minister his “invitation” to Russia cannot be dismissed as a mere personal whim.
With ISIS driven out of Mosul and, hopefully, soon to be driven other pockets of territory it still controls in Iraq, the decks are being cleared for the forthcoming general election that would decide the shape of the next government in Baghdad. Fancying itself as the “big winner” in Iraq, Iran’s leadership is working on a strategy to make that fancy a reality.
That strategy has three key elements.
The first is to create a new, supposedly “liberal” and “non-sectarian” Shi’ite coalition to dominate the next parliament and, through that, the next government in Baghdad. That requires a reshuffling of political cards and the discarding of some old outfits.
These are some of the terms Afghan men use to refer to their wives in public instead of their names, the sharing of which they see as a grave dishonor worthy of violence: Mother of Children, My Household, My Weak One or sometimes, in far corners, My Goat or My Chicken.

1) an activist judge ordered Arpaio to stop enforcing existing US laws inside the US
2) the sheriff continued to enforce the law, since he thought that was his job
3) sheriff was charged with contempt of court – and is now convicted…

Part 1: When Chinese residents of Spain needed to get piles of illicit cash back home, police allege, they found an accomplice in the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Confidential court filings, including wiretap transcripts, detail how the bank allegedly helped launder hundreds of millions of euros.
MADRID – A few minutes before 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2012, two Chinese living in Spain – a banker and her client – held a blunt phone conversation.
Wang Jing was a senior officer at the Madrid branch of the state-controlled Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The client, Xu Kai, was an alleged top figure in an international money laundering group that was suspected of using the bank to transfer illegal income to China. The network was allegedly using multiple accounts in the name of Chinese residents of Spain, in some cases without their permission, to make the transfers. But there had been a hitch.
Earlier that day, banker Wang said, a woman had come to the branch to complain that transfers were being made from her account without her knowledge. Wang chided Xu, telling her to make sure that account holders used in the scheme were on board.
“You have to look out for yourself and make sure these people are obedient,” Wang warned. More complaints would lead to “problems” for the bank, Wang added.
In fact, the bank already had problems. Big problems. Spanish police were listening.
Wang’s warning to Xu is documented in confidential court filings that include wiretap transcripts from a series of police investigations starting in 2009 into Chinese organized crime in Spain. The Spanish authorities have said publicly they suspect these groups siphoned up to 1.2 billion euros ($1.4 billion) out of Spain to China between 2009 and the end of 2012.
The wiretaps and findings from police investigations ultimately led Spanish investigators to the front door of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, or ICBC – the world’s biggest bank by assets. On the morning of Feb. 17 last year, dozens of police officers burst into the bank’s Madrid branch and arrested Wang Jing and four other senior managers. Two more executives were arrested after the raid.
In a statement released in May last year, Spanish prosecutors said the giant Chinese state-run lender was a conduit for laundering tens of millions of euros in illegal funds from tax fraud and smuggling by “Chinese criminal organizations.” The sums laundered were so large, the prosecutors said, that “the damage to the socio-economic order and the national economy is clear.”
But beyond news of the arrests and a summary of allegations in the statement, little information has been revealed about the case.
Now, thousands of pages of confidential case submissions reviewed by Reuters, and interviews with investigators and former ICBC employees, provide the first detailed account of the alleged racket and show that the probe reaches high into the state-run bank’s European operation. The investigation has so alarmed Beijing that China’s top official in Madrid has publicly pressured Spanish officials to conclude the inquiry, warning that failure to do so would harm economic relations.
At the core of the ICBC case is the relationship between the bank and a group of clients from Spain’s thriving Chinese business community. These clients are alleged to have accumulated mountains of cash, much of it from avoiding duty and tax on the sale of consumer goods imported from China. They could not spend it or bank it in Spain without raising suspicion, so they opted to send it to bank accounts in their homeland.
The wiretap transcripts show how ICBC allegedly helped them do it: Bankers accepted forged documents to conceal the source of the funds, failed to report suspicious transactions and even tipped off the smuggling groups ahead of inspections at the bank, police say in the court filings.
Law enforcement officials in Spain are preparing to expand their probe, Reuters has been told. Prosecutors plan to ask the judge in charge of the case to summon ICBC’s Luxembourg-based European administrative board for questioning for the first time, according to two Spanish officials involved in the investigation. The Luxembourg unit of ICBC holds the lender’s European Union bank license and is responsible for supervising the Madrid branch.
A spokesman for ICBC in Europe, Sun Feng, said the case file was sealed by the court so the bank could not comment on it. ICBC, he added, was a “law-abiding company” and had cooperated with Spanish authorities.
“ICBC Spain Branch has been insisting on operating within the law and regulations, and has continuously strengthened the internal control of anti-money laundering,” Sun said in a written response to questions for this article. “ICBC Spain Branch has always been actively cooperating with the judicial authority to conduct the investigation.”[…]

Cairo: About 65 per cent of Egyptian families have nine children, which can hinder the nation`s development, a minister said here.
“The population increase rate has reached 2.5 per cent, which requires raising the economic growth rate three times in no less than ten years, which is not happening for the time being,” Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali said on Sunday.
The minister added that about 62 per cent of Egyptian mothers are illiterate.
Egypt`s population has exceeded 100 million, including 93.4 million citizens in addition to at least 8 million expatriates, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics.
According to President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, terrorism and growing population are the largest challenges that Egypt is currently facing.
