The Washington Post awed the news world Friday morning with a monster “exclusive” story promising to reveal “Obama’s secret struggle to punish Russia for Putin’s election assault.” Instead, what it delivers is a magnum “Rusher” opus.
For the uninitiated, “Rushers” are left-wing “Birthers” — i.e., partisans so devastated by an election loss that they have cooked up a conspiracy that, if proven, would force the winner out of office and undo all of his executive actions. Birthers believed that Barack Obama would be proven constitutionally ineligible to serve as president if they could prove he was born in Kenya. Rushers believe that Donald Trump will be impeached and prosecuted for treason because he is a secret operative for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Whereas mainstream conservatism disavowed Birthers, the institutional left has embraced the Rusher conspiracy; top lawmakers and journalists remain true believers. The Rusher narrative has dominated the Washington Post‘s reporting since Trump’s upset victory over Hillary Clinton. Along with laughable fake stories — e.g., “Russian hackers penetrated U.S. electricity grid,” or Adam Entous, an author on Friday’s piece, interpreting a joke by Rep. Kevin McCarthy as a REAL SCOOP — the Post has advanced the story with breathless innuendo about Tump and his associates, printed allegations from sources that they have no means to confirm, and often caveated tantalizing headlines with reminders that there is no evidence of any crime (or that the current scandal is not illegal).
The new Post piece — with the triple byline of Greg Miller, Ellen Nakashima, and Entous, plus contributions from Karen DeYoung and Julie Tate — bears all the marks of the Rusher genre. It reaffirms that Russia did not alter any votes in the 2016 election (almost 100 paragraphs in!), misleads about the FBI’s investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and fixates the bureaucratic process behind the Obama White House’s public statements and sanctions. While casting several top Obama officials as heroic and aggressive (eliminating much doubt as to who the cited “officials” are), the report laments that the previous administration’s efforts against Russia were too little, too late.

Woman Slugged for Wearing Shorts During Ramadan
An outcry ensued in Turkey after a man slugged a woman in the jaw (see video above) for wearing shorts during Ramadan.
Asena Melisa Saglam, 21, reported the man had been harassing her the entire ride. When he got up to leave, he struck her, causing her head to slam against the window.
“From the moment I sat down he was making these remarks [like], ‘You dress like this during Ramadan? You should feel ashamed to be dressed like that,’” she reported.
She first tried to ignore him by putting on her headphones. But after the attack, Saglam pursued the man to the front of the bus at which point he took her and threw her down.
The man was initially detained by the police, where he claimed he had been “provoked.” After questioning, he was released, causing another public outcry.
Orders were subsequently given to re-arrest the man, but it is unknown if officers followed through.
Turkish women are often the victims of violence and even murder at the hands of men. According to the women’s organization We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 173 women were murdered between January to May of 2017.

“European Union officials, including EU Council President Donald Tusk, have admitted most of the migrants coming from Africa into Italy are not legitimate refugees or asylum seekers, but illegal migrants.
Mr. Tusk wrote a letter earlier this week to the various heads of state in the political bloc saying that illegal migration had gone up 26 per cent in Italy compared to last year. Tusk said the current EU policy was “not enough” and that the Mediterranean route needed to be controlled proposing the EU support the Libyan coastguard, Salzburger Nachrichten reports.
Top EU diplomats have also sounded the alarm over the number of illegal migrants flooding into Europe through the Mediterranean route.
“In most of the cases, and that is actually the case on the central Mediterranean route, we’re talking clearly and manifestly about economic migrants,” an EU official said earlier this week during a press conference.
“They get to Europe illegally, they do not have any documents which would allow them to enter the European soil,” the official added.
The official then clarified what Mr. Tusk wrote in his letter saying: “What Tusk stressed is the importance of looking at the rate of returns. This is somewhere where the progress still hasn’t been sufficient.”
Many countries, most notably Germany, have had an increasingly difficult time deporting illegal migrants or failed asylum seekers to countries in Africa due to a lack of cooperation from foreign governments as many migrants arrive with no papers.
The official noted that further cooperation with the Libyan government was paramount in tackling the crisis. “They could be our most important ally on the central Mediterranean route and we should make everything we can so that they work robustly against the smugglers and clearly on our side,” he said.
Most of the migrants rescued at sea are rescued by ships with European flags, many of them belonging to pro-migrant NGOs, and take the migrants to Europe, rather than back to North Africa. Many have slammed the NGOs claiming they are working intentionally with people traffickers as they wait for boats only miles off the Libyan coast.
Some politicians, like Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, have called for the EU to strengthen its presence in the Mediterranean. “As long as they rescuing people in the Mediterranean also means a ticket to Europe, more will come, ” he said adding, “we decide who is coming and going, not the people smugglers.””

The number of opium addicts living outdoors in squalor in Kabul, Afghanistan has shot up since the USA invasion of 2001. Footage shot Friday in the capital showed a community of addicts who live in a dry riverbed in the centre of the city.

(CNN)Saudi security forces on Friday prevented an imminent attack on the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the country’s Interior Ministry said on state-run TV.
A suspect planning an attack on the mosque blew himself up in a nearby neighborhood when security forces surrounded a home where the man was hiding, according to the ministry.
The suspect refused to comply with demands to surrender, opened fire on security forces and then killed himself, officials said.
Five people, including one woman, suspected of involvement in the plot were arrested. Three groups, two based in Mecca and one in Jeddah, planned the attack, the Interior Ministry said.

Three children and two adults who tried to rescue them have been electrocuted in a water park in north-western Turkey, local media say.
The incident happened in the town of Akyazi, in Sakarya province, 100km (62 miles) east of Istanbul.
The park manager and his son dived in to help the three children. The five, believed to be all Turkish, were taken to hospital but could not be saved.
It was unclear how the pool had become electrified.

Saudi Arabian police foiled a “terrorist action” against Islam’s holiest site on Friday, where millions of faithful from around the world have gathered, the state Al-Ekhbaria news channel said.

When asked to comment on the arrest of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul lawmaker Enis Berbero?lu, Nauert said that “they are trying to gather information.”
“We’re concerned about the greater pattern of what we see as Turkish official actions that we believe appear to target people whose views differ from the views of certain members of the government. So that’s an area of concern, and that’s something that we just continue to talk to that government about,” Nauert said during a press briefing on June 22.
Berbero?lu was sentenced to 25 years in jail for “revealing state secrets” on June 14 in a case into Syria-bound trucks of the National Intelligence Agency (M?T).
Nauert was also asked about the situation of jailed journalists in Turkey.
“We continue to talk about this, and that is freedom of expression. We believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the media, even speech that some nations and some leaders find to be uncomfortable. So that’s something that the United States will continue to push for,” she said.
During the press briefing, Nauert said that freedom of speech strengthens democracy.
“The freedom of speech needs to be protected, whether it’s in Turkey or in other nations as well. And we continue just to urge the Turkish government to respect and ensure freedom of expression, fair trials, a judicial independence, and other human rights and functional freedoms. So we continue to say that to them,” she also said.”
