Jeremy Corbyn: Empty homes owned by rich should be ‘requisitioned’ for Grenfell Tower residents
Jeremy Corbyn has called for the empty homes of rich people in Kensington to be seized for Grenfell Tower residents who have been made homeless by the fire.
The Labour leader said that the London Borough was a “tale of two cities” between a wealthy south and a rich north.
He suggested that “requisitioning” expensive vacant properties could help ensure that residents are housed locally.

“STOCK prices in some the world’s biggest internet companies, including Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple, have continued to tumble, amid panic a giant tech bubble in markets is about to burst.

David Madden, market analyst at CMC Markets UK, said: “The record highs that were seen in the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 recently were partially created by an assumption that the US central bank would be worried about slipping inflation, and therefore need to keep their monetary policy on the loose side.
“The note that Goldman Sachs wrote about the heavy weights of the tech sector is still ringing true as Alphabet, Netflix, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon are all in negative territory.
“The decline in those stocks started at the end of last week, and the Fed’s update has accelerated it.””
Several shots fired at truck flying ‘Make America Great Again’ flag on I-465
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State Police say shots were fired at a truck carrying a “Make America Great Again” flag and an American flag on eastbound I-465 Tuesday.
Officers believe the shots were fired from a newer white 4-door Chevrolet Malibu with a Louisiana plate near Emerson Avenue around 4 p.m.
The victim and a witness informed police that the Malibu pulled up next to the pickup truck, a passenger held a handgun out of the window and then a male fired several shots.
Police say no one was in injured in the incident.
The driver of the Malibu was described as a black male around the age of 23. The passenger was described as a light skinned black male with a sleeve tattoo on his right arm.

Armed police fire stun gun at knife-wielding man near British parliament
LONDON (Reuters) – British armed police fired a stun gun at a man who reached for a knife as he ran toward officers guarding one of the gates to the Westminster parliament in central London on Friday, witnesses said.
Police said the man was acting suspiciously at around 11:00 am (6.00 a.m. ET) near one of the gates where a militant killed a policeman less than three months ago.
After firing a Taser stun gun, police detained the man. Armed police had guns trained on the man as he was restrained and bundled into a police van, witnesses at the scene told Reuters.
“The man reached for a knife,” police said. “Nobody was injured.”
A witness at the scene told Reuters the man, who police said was in his 30s, had run toward one of the gates.

Four fire engines were dispatched to Tarling Street after worried residents made 36 calls to emergency services.
Two roof extraction units were completely and the wooden decking and fencing of a third floor balcony was partially destroyed in the early hours of Friday morning.
Firefighters battled with the blaze for around an hour before finally extinguishing the inferno at 2.24am.

Knifeman outside Parliament – Armed police swoop as police say terror could be motive (express, Jun 16, 2017)

Police rushed to the scene and seized a man wearing a grey sweatshirt outside Parliament.
They said they arrested the man on suspicion of possessing a knife shortly after 11am this morning.
The Met said they “remain open minded as to whether terrorism was a motive”.

After Occupy protester and registered Democrat James Hodgkinson targeted Republicans by opening fire on them as they practiced at a ballpark on 14 June, members of Congress quickly came out and called for national unity.
There was a time when that call was a compelling one. Hey, we’re all Americans here.
But it is apparent that that time has passed. Howard Portnoy had a nice post this morning on why.
He didn’t put it in these terms, but I will. It’s because there can be no unity with a faction that wants to hold other people at perpetual risk until it gets its way, by fair means or foul.
Nothing justifies doing that. It is an evil, vicious way to live. We owe no one any obligation of “unity” that would keep such a pattern going.
I had another nice post all prepared expounding on just why we don’t owe anyone unity on those terms. And I do think there are people who need to hear it.
But it is way past time to talk clearly of the terms on which unity would be possible, without positive, constructive people having to give up hope and future, and basically agree to be held at perpetual risk by the tantrum-throwing faction, and shaken down at regular intervals.

Let’s just be clear at the outset who is included in the tantrum-throwing faction.
It has become apparent – e.g., with the incessant string of quickly falsified “leaks” published by the Washington Post and New York Times – that a persistent faction in our government and media is determined to act in a lawless way in order to lawlessly, by falsehood and subterfuge, undo the 2016 election.
There can be no unity with that objective. We are under no obligation to compromise with the objective, or give ear to the lies.
These relentless, cynical attacks on the duly-elected president, through abuse of the law and the people’s trust, are on a continuum with unhinged attacks like James Hodgkinson’s on the Republicans at ball practice. This is all part of the same phenomenon.
Criticism of a president or political party is always legitimate – but that’s not what this is. The phenomenon we’re talking about is justifying a lawless abuse of government power, and misuse of citizens’ rights and privileges, in order to undo the outcomes achieved by the law-abiding through lawful means.
But what is the remedy? The only one in the hands of men is the rule of law. And to say that is to lay out the precise, unbridgeable difference between Americans today.
Where unity must start is with the premise of the rule of law. All shakedowns are a form of lawlessness. They become self-perpetuating, self-absorbed schemes. They actively attack the rule of law as soon as it gets in the way of their scheme. The relentless assault of multiple political factions in this country on lawful administration of our immigration laws is a good example, but there are many others.
A shakedown is a shakedown whether the Mafia is doing it, or the Russian mob, or MS-13, or a sue-and-settle enterprise like many left-wing legal activist groups, or the United States federal government. When a political group is shaking down the people through the mechanisms of government, it quickly forms a pattern of undermining the rule of law in order to keep hold of the levers for the shakedown. The Obama administration didn’t pioneer that phenomenon, by any means, but it made by far the most egregious use of it we’ve seen since FDR.
The best underlayment for the rule of law is keeping government limited. That’s what the restraints of the Bill of Rights are for: restraints on government to keep it from seeking too much power over the people. The basic incongruity of attempted “compromise” on this point was laid bare by the Obama years, when it became clear, even to the previously obtuse, that all compromise on the size of government merely creates new levers for shaking down the people.
Since some government is necessary, a key way to get the right balance is to take federalism seriously. In domestic policy, no kind of law that encroaches on the nearest interests of the people’s daily lives should originate in Washington, D.C. Washington’s local role, if any, is properly restricted to occasionally intervening against local law that encroaches on the people. And Congress may, and should, place limits on the scope of that power.
The states are the “laboratories of democracy,” but even the state capitals are too distant from the people for many matters. There are numerous things done by our federal government today that should not be done at a national level – or even necessarily done at all.
It is equally essential to take seriously the separation of powers among branches of government. The judiciary is not empowered to rule from the perspective of policy opinions, period. Policy opinions are the province of the other two branches. Yet this principle has been breached regularly for decades.
In domestic matters, our presidents have come to operate with far too much executive discretion, largely because of the proliferation of regulatory agencies and commissions, through which the levers for shakedown can be formed with little recognition by Congress or the public.
Presidents of both parties, and a long series of Democratic Congresses, have created that problem. Key figures prior to Obama were Wilson, Hoover, FDR, Eisenhower, LBJ, Nixon, and Clinton. Some of these presidents are revered today, but all of them played a major role in making government too big to restrain.
Speaking of restraints, constitutionalism in observing restraints on government is foundational. There cannot be unity between constitutionalism and anti-constitutionalism. The U.S. Constitution can be amended. It cannot be “reinterpreted” to accommodate political fashion.
Two other qualities in our thinking are necessary for national unity. One is an understanding of the limitations of law and government. This isn’t a reference to “limited government”; it’s one of the two big reasons why we ought to limit government. The first is outlined above. Government creates levers for extorting the people. The more of it there is, the more levers there are for extortion and shakedowns.
But the other reason is perhaps even more basic. Law and government are blunt tools that cannot fix for us what we don’t like about our world. They have a limited set of mechanisms and dynamics. They work through force, the threat of force, and crude incentives. Yet a high-quality human life is not made up mostly of elements for which these mechanisms and dynamics are appropriate.
Government literally can’t change or fix the things people always fall into a way of wanting it to. That’s why we should never adapt our whole idea of life to living by what government can do for us. Making us happy, fulfilling us, restoring us from the depths of our painful times – these and many other things are beyond the power of government or law.
So, for that matter, are hallucinatory projects like “erasing income inequality,” or any other equality-of-outcome scheme. The more we let government try for these goals, the worse the original “problem” always gets. This will never change, because human government can only work in certain ways. It cannot meet unrealistic expectations.
The second necessary quality in our thinking is the understanding that human government is not our source of moral legitimacy, rights, or hope. We don’t all have to agree on what is that source, although it certainly helps if most of us do. But we do all have to agree that government is Not It.
That’s why government can be properly treated as a public utility – a form of overhead, meriting measured respect but not reverence, which needs periodic tending and sensible management, but which has a limited and not terribly interesting place in our lives.
I pay the power company to keep resistance going at the proper level in the line to my house. I don’t pay it to have opinions on what I want to use electric power for, much less whom I want to marry, what I want to eat or drive, or what God wrote in a book. I assume the officials of the power company have their own opinions on such things, and it doesn’t hurt my feelings to hear them. But I don’t pay anyone, including them, to set institutional standards for what my opinions or practices should be. If I want an institutional standard set, I’ll let them know.
The idea of government should be more like that than not. If you don’t know the mental freedom and peace of seeing it that way, I can highly recommend it. Require government to do what you’re paying it for, but keep that list short, and reserve your hopes and dreams for God, love, friendship, family, children, vocations, entrepreneurship, and volunteering your own precious self among your fellow men and women.
If you don’t see it that way? Well, there can be no unity of political purpose between people who worship the power of government as a pagan god, and people who don’t. There is no a priori “right” for anyone to demand such unity.
The terms laid out here offer everyone hope and a future. The terms of the progressive left offer a narrow, particular path only to those who want to be on the lever-wielding end of a perpetual shakedown.
This is the divide we face, and there is no compromise to be had, nor should there be. The terms must be that we agree on government that is limited, constitutional, and federal, and that setting up ways to harass and extort the people – with tantrums, “resistance,” government-sponsored grievance-mongering – is inadmissible.

Namwan Sukit, 43, and Siriwan Sripeng, 51 were sweeping the footpath and trimming bushes outside Bangkok’s UNESCO office at the time of the explosion.

The present-day Jardines del Triunfo started off as 13th century Islamic cemetery during the Muslim occupation of Spain, but is now dominated by a 17th century statue of the Immaculate Conception, located atop a towering pillar.
The decision to stage a prayer to break the daily Ramadan fast on June 10 was taken jointly by a Socialist-controlled city hall and an Islamic group, the Euroarab Foundation.
Socialist mayor Francisco Cuenca said that the ceremony prove that Granada was a “city of coexistence and tolerance” and said that “people of all faiths were invited to participate” in a ritual that would serve as “an invitation to another culture.” Another Socialist city official insisted that “multiculturalism can never be a threat, it is an added value.”
Those who chanted traditional Catholic prayers at the gardens this week, led by a leader with a megaphone, disagreed.
“It was a lack of respect to Catholics. I love everybody: Arabs, Buddhists alike. It was a provocation, and due to the municipality of Granada,” said a middle-aged woman.
Those behind the idea of the public Ramadan celebration have rejected the Catholics’ objections.
“In my opinion, we should not generalize. It was a little group without the support of the Catholic Church administrators. It shows there is a long way to arrive to the full coexistence,” a representative of the organizing committee, who did not wish to reveal her name, told Ruptly.
She also rejected the historical overtones pointed out by the detractors. Originally a Roman, then a Jewish settlement, Granada was home to the longest-surviving Muslim Emirate in Spain, before its conquest in 1492. Until 2003, the city, famous for its Alhambra Palace, did not even have a mosque.
“We don’t want to avenge anything with the selection of the site for the prayer. We chose this site because it’s a central park in Granada and a very big place to share with all the people who accepted our invitation to join,” the organizer told Ruptly.”

“An Indian court on Friday convicted six people of involvement in an attack in Mumbai in 1993 in which 12 powerful bombs packed in cars, scooters and suitcases killed 257 people and injured hundreds of others.
The court found the six Muslims guilty on charges of criminal conspiracy, transporting weapons and murder, which are punishable by a maximum penalty of death. The court is to announce sentences next week.
The six are the second group to be tried in the blasts. More than 100 people were found guilty in the main trial that ended in 2007. Eleven people were sentenced to death and the rest received various jail terms and fines.
Prosecutors said the bombings were an act of revenge for the demolition of a 16th century mosque by Hindu nationalists in northern India in 1992. That triggered religious riots in parts of India, leaving more than 800 dead, mostly Muslims.
The blasts hit a number of prominent targets in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, including the stock exchange, Air India building, hotels, a cinema and shopping bazaars. Prosecutors said the purpose of the attack was to strike terror and foment violence against Hindus.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit Thursday in federal court in Detroit against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement seeking a temporary stay of deportations. The ACLU said Friday that possible deportations aren’t expected at least until after the request is heard.
The lawsuit says it would be illegal to deport the detainees without giving them a chance to prove they could face torture or death if returned to Iraq.
The ACLU says most of the 114 Iraqis arrested in last weekend’s Detroit-area raids are Chaldean Christians, but there are also some Shiite Muslims and Christian converts. ICE says all have criminal convictions.”

“A Dutch investigating judge on Friday refused to prolong the detention of a radicalized man who is suspected by prosecutors of “possible involvement in making preparations for a terrorist crime.”
The 29-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was detained a week ago outside the PSV Eindhoven soccer stadium where thousands of fans were attending a pop concert by Dutch singer Guus Meeuwis. Police said the man was known to be radicalized, did not have a ticket for the concert and was making video recordings.
Court spokeswoman Ilse Westenenk said that the investigating judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence against the man to justify holding him for a further two weeks. It was not immediately clear if prosecutors would appeal.
Dozens of extra officers were deployed around Eindhoven following the man’s arrest, but police said there was no direct threat to concertgoers.
The man’s arrest came amid heightened security around many concerts following the May 22 bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that killed 22 people and the bomber.”

“The Pentagon will send almost 4,000 additional American forces to Afghanistan, a Trump administration official said Thursday, hoping to break a stalemate in a war that has now passed to a third U.S. commander in chief. The deployment will be the largest of American manpower under Donald Trump’s young presidency.
The decision by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis could be announced as early as next week, the official said. It follows Trump’s move to give Mattis the authority to set troop levels and seeks to address assertions by the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan that he doesn’t have enough forces to help Afghanistan’s army against a resurgent Taliban insurgency. The rising threat posed by Islamic State extremists, evidenced in a rash of deadly attacks in the capital city of Kabul, has only fueled calls for a stronger U.S. presence, as have several recent American combat deaths.

Wednesday’s shootings have blown gaping holes in the Left’s longstanding claim that only right-wing gun nuts commit acts of violence. This has always been a specious argument, partly because liberals have been so quick to conclude that the perpetrator in every violent act was a conservative (think Jared Lee Loughner). But James Hodgkinson’s unimpeachable liberal mala fides and the circumstances under which he opened fire have thrown the mainstream media into a tailspin.
But when the ugly truth surfaces, resist they much. Enter the Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky with a feeble effort to charm readers into continuing to accept the gospel according to the Democrats. He makes an appeal to conservatives by conceding that the Left has been responsible for its share of gun violence. But then he tries a bit of misdirection by arguing “but that was in the past” (shades of Democrats attempting to weasel out of the fact that their party founded the Ku Klux Klan).
Unfortunately for Tomasky et. al., when it comes to assigning blame for the ugly polarized climate the nation finds itself in, there is plenty of hate — and violence — to go around. The acts of aggression since Trump’s nomination, alone, could fill a book. Nevertheless, The Daily Caller News Foundation has compiled a list of violent acts against conservatives in months since the Republican National Convention. The list is by no means exhaustive.

“Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against 16 people for allegedly assaulting protesters outside the Turkish ambassador’s residence when President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited last month.
The incident was caught on camera and caused a diplomatic crisis, with Turkey and the U.S. summoning each other’s ambassadors and members of Congress expressing outrage.
Two of the defendants are American citizens and were arrested yesterday. Sinan Narin, 45, of Virginia plead not guilty in a D.C. court Thursday afternoon, and Eyup Yildirim, 50, of New Jersey, is in custody in his home state and awaiting extradition to D.C.
Two other defendants are Canadians, while the rest are Turkish nationals — 9 security officers and three police officers, all part of Erdogan’s entourage. The State Department tells ABC News they are considering taking additional action against those individuals overseas, which could mean barring future entry or revoking visas.
The violence erupted on May 16 when Turkish security officials and counter-protesters clashed with demonstrators near the ambassador’s residence, where Erdogan stayed after meetings with President Trump at the White House. The incident left 11 people injured, nine of whom were hospitalized.
At the time, two men were arrested and charged with simple assault. The cases for Ayten Necmi, 49, of New York and Jalal Kheirabaoi, 42, of Virginia remain pending, but both men have plead not guilty.
Altogether, today’s indictments bring the total number of individuals charged to 18.”
WSJ – The Spanish Left Yearns for Deconquista
Muslims demand to worship in a cathedral that hasn’t been Islamic since 1236.
“The Great Mosque of Cordoba.” That’s what Unesco—the cultural arm of the United Nations—calls the 24,000-square-foot 10th-century structure visited by 1.5 million tourists a year. It was declared a World Heritage site in 1984, and rightfully so: The building’s interior is a stunning example of Moorish architecture.
Yet this “mosque” is actually the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Córdoba. In 1236, King Ferdinand III of Castile captured Córdoba from the Almohad Caliphate. He then had the building consecrated for Christian use. Or reconsecrated, rather, since underneath the mosque lay the demolished remains of a sixth-century church built by Spain’s Visigothic rulers before the Muslim invasion in 711. Today, Mass and confession are celebrated inside. The cathedral has been a Christian house of worship for centuries longer than it was an Islamic one.
The discordance greeting tourists is the result of more than 200 years of antagonism toward the Catholic Church by left-leaning Spanish intellectuals. They have used the cathedral’s unique architecture essentially to de-Christianize it in the name of restoring its historical Islamic roots. This secularist campaign began in the early 19th century but has gained new force in the past 20 years. Recent Islamic immigration to Spain has given the anticlerical leftists new allies—Muslims demanding to worship in their “Great Mosque.”
But that would require taking the building out of the Catholic Church’s hands. In 2013 an organization called the Platform for the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba gathered more than 350,000 signatures on a petition calling for a public takeover. A year later, the Socialist-led coalition government of Spain’s Andalusia region, which includes Córdoba, accused the diocese of “hiding” the building’s history. In March the city council issued a report arguing that the diocese does not legally own the cathedral. “Religious consecration is not the way to acquire property,” it said. The site’s true owners “are each and every citizen of the world from whatever epoch and regardless of people, nation, culture or race.”
The diocese worries that the leftists may be about to get their way. To shore up support among American Catholics, the bishop of Córdoba, Demetrio Fernández González, spoke Wednesday at a meeting sponsored by the Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom. Outright expropriation by the local government “would be impossible,” Bishop Fernández told me before his speech. But, as a European Union report on the mosque controversy pointed out, Andalusian law would permit expropriation if a court determined the diocese had failed properly to maintain and conserve the property. The bishop added that he already has obtained the pope’s support should a legal battle arise over ownership.
Michele Lamprakos, an architectural historian at the University of Maryland, makes clear in a 2016 article for the journal Aggregate that during the Reconquista the Christians didn’t simply plunk their own religious paraphernalia into an Islamic structure. They worked carefully to transform and hybridize it, adding Gothic stonework and constructing a transept to make the building into a cruciform. They also carefully incorporated some of its Moorish features into their own plans. The interior seems Islamic today only because during the 19th century secular architects stripped away layers of Christian stylings.
It has become fashionable on the left to romanticize Spain’s Islamic past. The Catholics of the Reconquista are thought of as crude fanatics, whereas the caliphate is presented as a haven of tolerance and learning where Jews and Christians—never mind their second-class status—lived side-by-side with Muslims in happy convivencia. Barack Obama even cited Andalusia as an example of Islam’s “proud tradition of tolerance” during his 2009 speech in Cairo.
Spain’s Islamic population has nearly doubled, to 1.9 million from around one million in 2007. Muslims, who now constitute about 4% of the country, mostly live along the Mediterranean, in Andalusia and Catalonia.
They began lobbying in the early 2000s to treat the Córdoba cathedral as a shared worship space. In 2010 two Muslim tourists, part of a larger group from Austria that had knelt on the cathedral floor, were arrested following a scuffle that seriously injured security guards trying to evict them. Muslim militants inside and outside Spain remain a solid constituency for the anti-Catholic left.
The issue ultimately is one of religious freedom: Can a government confiscate the property of a church that has held it and cared for it for nearly 800 years? The answer will indicate where an increasingly secular Spain is headed. Anyone concerned for religious freedom should watch Córdoba closely.

Together – as “Los Reyes Católicos” – they expelled the last Moorish king from Granada and performed a series of symbolic and substantive nation-building exercises.
The Cathedral and the Plaza del Triunfo of Granada remain preeminent symbols of national identity. Absent that connection, you may as well spin off Catalunya, Galicia, and the Basque region.
There’s a Moorish aspect to the character of the people of Andalusia. Most of their ancestors were Moslem; they became the most fervent of Catholics. Always poor, but exceptionally proud.
During the last century this rigidly conservative region was intensely Francoist. A society of castes, severely repressive. With secret police everywhere, tens of thousands went into exile.
There’s no way to soft-peddle the viciousness of the regime. Freedoms the rest of the West has taken for granted – freedom of expression, association – were brutally crushed. The Church was four-square the Regime. That’s a fact.
We – NATO “enlightened” – turned a blind eye to outrageous abuses because it was in our Cold War interest to do so. All dissent was driven into the simmering anarchist and communist underground. Hatred festered there for decades.
After Franco died, a well-organized, embittered Left took over. Long-time exiles returned.
And killed the Spanish people. Almost literally.
Divorce, birth control, and abortion came late to the country. Sometime in the late 1970s, I think. These, together with “unconventional” lifestyles, have caused the birthrate to plummet irreparably.
The Left won’t be satisfied till the cornerstone of national identity, the Catholic Church, is ground to dust. Separatists may be the loudest, but they won’t be the only ones cheering. Civil War partisanship doesn’t fade in so few decades.

Don’t look at this history through the simplistic religious prism. It’s way more complicated than the “Matamoros” myth and the legends around Christopher Columbus. “History” was a function of politics from the get-go. Marxist renditions of this period are simply ludicrous.
Thing is, extensive primary source materials were left intact. A massive trove in volume and breadth of coverage. In the late 1930s a cousin of mine from Italy found records going back well over a millennium. They were filed away in royal archives.

All history is much more complex then is told in the history books and the motives are often vastly different then what is taught.
My comment wasn’t about Spanish history, which is a period of history that deserves to be a special period of study because of its complexity which goes back in time to earlier hatreds and to other nations, but about Thought Control all Speech Control and Religious Control laws are Thought Control laws. When you can’t speak certain thoughts or worship certain ways eventually you stop thinking those thoughts and worshiping that way.
In Spain during the Civil War and later in Greece during the communist attempted take over the Church (Roman and Orthodox) worked against the communists and this insured that the left would work to take over and where they can’t take over and change Christian sects work to destroy them.

Egypt: Gulf siege against Qatar should include Turkey
The Egyptian president has called on allies in the Gulf to escalate the diplomatic row with Qatar to include Turkey, the New Arab reported.
According to the news outlet, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi urged Gulf leaders to expand their boycott until Ankara gives up support for Qatar. He is reported to have said that this would maintain the pressure on Doha to respond positively and help bring a speedy end to the regional siege.
The sources said that Al-Sisi raised the matter during a meeting with the King of Bahrain, Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, last Thursday in Cairo. They added that Al-Sisi pushed for the escalation of the Arab campaign and accused Turkey of funding and hosting groups classified as “terrorist” such as the Muslim Brotherhood or organisations in Syria.
According to the news outlet, Al-Sisi has not received a response to his suggestion. The sources pointed out that the Gulf countries were keen; however, to at least neutralise Turkey from assisting Qatar in the crisis.
After his visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the King of Bahrain sent his Foreign Minister, Khalid Bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, to Turkey to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an attempt to ease the conflict – especially in light of the agreement by Ankara to send Turkish troops to Doha.
Egypt’s desire to escalate the matter with Turkey follows Erdogan’s sharp criticisms of the current Egyptian regime since the overthrow of the first democratically elected President, Mohamed Morsi, was ousted in a military coup.
Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, who is scheduled to visit Qatar today, said that his government aimed to protect the security of the region as a whole not just a particular country and he added that he hoped the dispute with Qatar would be resolved before the end of Ramadan.

In a dramatic turnaround, a federal judge has ruled that permits to complete the Dakota Access Pipeline must be reconsidered, and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has demanded the flow of oil through the pipeline be stopped.
Completion of the controversial pipeline was stopped by the Obama Administration last December, with a call for an environmental-impact statement to assess risks.
However, the judge wrote in his ruling, “As we all know, elections have consequences, and the government’s position on the easement shifted significantly once President Trump assumed office on January 20, 2017.”
President Trump called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to issue the permits, which it did shortly after he took office. Completion of the pipeline swiftly followed, as contractors drilled under a lake formed by a dam on the Missouri River, to hook up the two ends of the pipeline. The flow of oil began June 1.

Once again an unelected Judge has decided that he or she has the authority to set the policies of the government. The left needs to study more history instead of trying to rewriting and destroying history. The rush to impeach President Trump is on by an opposition party that lacks the votes, evidence or legal basis for such a move. But since when did an illegal left-wing coup need any of those things?
No Dem has been more honest about the real motive for impeachment than Congressman Ted Lieu.
“We should not give him a chance to govern,” Lieu had declared after Trump had been in office for ten days. And he predicted that, “I do believe that if we win back the House of Representatives, impeachment proceedings will be started.”
What was the basis for impeaching President Trump after ten days in office? Lieu made it clear that if the Democrats won, they would try to impeach Trump no matter what.
That’s not how things work in the United States. But the left is running America like a banana republic.
More recently Lieu had mused that, “A recent poll came out saying that 46 percent of Americans want the president impeached, and certainly members of Congress take notice.”

Governor Greg Abbot has enacted a law that bans Sharia Law in the state of Texas.
The new Texas law prohibits the use of any foreign law in the state’s courts, specifically in family cases that involve marriage or parent-child relationship matters.

Qatar signs $12bn deal to buy US fighter jets days after Trump accused it of sponsoring terrorism
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday the country signed a deal to buy F-15 fighter jets from the United States for $12 billion (£9.4 billion).
The deal was completed despite the Gulf country being criticised recently by US President Donald Trump for supporting terrorism.
US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and representatives from Qatar were set to meet Wednesday to seal the agreement, a source familiar with the deal told Reuters. Bloomberg News reported the deal was for 36 jets.
The sale will increase security co-operation and interoperability between the US and Qatar, the Pentagon said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
Defense Secretary Mr Mattis and Qatari Minister of State for Defense Affairs Khalid al-Attiyah also discussed the current state of operations against the Isil and the importance of de-escalating tensions so all partners in the Gulf region can focus on next steps in meeting common goals, the Pentagon added.
In November, the United States approved possible sale of up to 72 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21.1 billion (£16.6 billion).
Boeing Co is the prime contractor on the fighter jet sale to the Middle East nation, but they declined to comment.
Mr Trump on Friday accused Qatar of being a “high-level” sponsor of terrorism, potentially hindering the US Department of State’s efforts to ease heightening tensions and a blockade of the Gulf nation by Arab states and others.
The diplomatic row that broke out earlier in June led to Gulf nations closing their borders and airspace to Qatar.
Locals bulk bought food after the diplomatic crisis started, as Qatar imports most of its food through Saudi Arabia.
Ships of fresh fruit and vegetables sent from Iran have docked in Qatar, and there have been plans to send over planes full of cows to ease any potential food crisis.

A $12 billion deal to buy U.S. F-15 fighter jets shows Qatar has deep-rooted support from Washington, a Qatari official said on Thursday, despite President Donald Trump’s repeated accusations that Doha supports terrorism.
Qatar is facing a severe economic and diplomatic boycott by Saudi Arabia and its regional allies who cut ties last week, in the worst rift among Gulf Arab states in years. They accuse Qatar of funding terrorism, fomenting regional unrest and cosying up to their enemy Iran, all of which Qatar denies.
The fighter jet deal came amid increased diplomacy to try to resolve the crisis.
Trump has repeatedly echoed the accusations against Qatar, even as his Defense and State Departments have tried to remain neutral in the dispute among key allies. Qatar hosts a big U.S. military base housing the headquarters of U.S. air forces in the Middle East.
On Wednesday U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis signed the previously approved Boeing plane deal with Qatari Minister of State for Defence Affairs Khalid al-Attiyah. Qatar’s ambassador to the United States, Meshal Hamad al-Thani, posted a picture of the signing ceremony on Twitter.
“This is of course proof that U.S. institutions are with us but we have never doubted that,” a Qatari official in Doha said. “Our militaries are like brothers. America’s support for Qatar is deep-rooted and not easily influenced by political changes.”
In Washington, a State Department spokeswoman said the United States continued to work with Qatar and other governments in the region and the planes deal had been years in the making.
“We see it as a tangible show of support for our defense relationship and their commitment to the United States,” spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters.
A Qatari defense ministry source said the deal was for 36 jets. In November, under the administration of former President Barack Obama, the United States approved a possible sale of up to 72 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21.1 billion. Boeing, the prime contractor on the sale, declined to comment.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, on a Gulf tour trying to help broker an end to the crisis, defended the deal.
“Just like other countries, like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt … it is natural for Qatar to buy airplanes or parts necessary for its own defense,” Cavusoglu said in Kuwait following talks with his Kuwaiti counterpart, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.
Turkey is friendly to Qatar and has sent food supplies since the sanctions were imposed. Kuwait has led efforts to mediate the dispute which had affected food imports and raised questions over the Gulf Arab state’s plans to host the 2022 World Cup.
A European diplomat in the Gulf said the timing of the deal appeared coincidental.
“Presumably the U.S. could have delayed the deal if they’d wanted to, although I don’t think there’s a great connect between sales and foreign policy.”
IMPORTANT AIR BASE
Qatar is an important base for the U.S. military carrying out operations against Islamic State militants and other groups in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and beyond. Al Udeid Air Base is home to more than 11,000 U.S. and coalition troops.
Two U.S. warships arrived at Hamad port in Qatar as part of a planned joint military exercise involving marine forces, Qatar’s state news agency said on Wednesday.
Cavusoglu, who visited Qatar and Kuwait to try to push diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis, said on Thursday he intends to travel to Saudi Arabia on Friday for talks with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz about the crisis.
“Saudi Arabia is important and the Saudi King is respected by everyone. Our expectation from King Salman is that he be the leader in solving this problem,” Cavusoglu said at a joint news conference with his Tunisian counterpart.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke by telephone with his Omani counterpart, Oman state news agency reported. The foreign ministry said foreign affairs minister Youssef bin Alawi called for support of Kuwaiti mediation efforts as the best chance for resolving the crisis.
Turkey and Qatar have both provided support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt – a broad movement whose Islamist goals are anathema to Egypt’s ex-military president, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and to many of the Gulf’s dynastic rulers.
Conservative Gulf neighbors have long viewed Qatar’s foreign policy with suspicion, especially its refusal to shun Shi’ite Iran, and resented its state-funded broadcaster Al Jazeera for airing critical views from across the region.
Qatar on Thursday said that preparations for the 2022 World Cup were unhindered, having secured alternative supplies of construction materials to those that had been coming by land from Saudi Arabia.
Qatar’s main port was also bustling with ships bringing food supplies and construction materials, witnesses said.
The Pentagon said the jets sale would increase security cooperation between the United States and Qatar and help them operate together. It added that Mattis and Attiyah had also discussed the current state of operations against Islamic State and the importance of de-escalating tensions in the Gulf.
The fighter jet deal had been stalled amid concerns raised by Israel that equipment sent to Gulf states could fall into the wrong hands and be used against it, and by the Obama administration’s broader decision-making on military aid to the Gulf.

Difficult as it is to accept—and it is bloody well difficult—in the world of realpolitik there are few better ways of keeping ostensible (i.e., pretend) “allies” under your strategic thumb than by making them dependent upon your particular brand of military hardware.
A vital side-effect of America’s Apollo lunar landing program was causing many undecided “non-aligned” nations to determine that US military equipment was superior to its Soviet counterpart. This fundamental political reconfiguration, coupled with the SDI (“Star Wars”) program, the Internet, and overall advances in C3 (Command, Control & Communication) capabilities are chief among various factors that led to the USSR’s eventual downfall.
That $12 billion worth of fighter planes sold to Qatar (properly pronounced “gutter”—honestly!) effectively will buy another few billion worth of follow-on orders (e.g., spare parts, training, support infrastructure), not to mention the potential of obtaining priceless intelligence through both “normal channels” and the possible installation of “back doors” on surveillance gear like AWACS systems or other critical equipment like agile frequency-hopping and MBC (Meteor Burst Communications) telecom equipment.
Am I even remotely fond of this cynical pragmatism? Hell no! Should America take the proverbial “moral high road” and abandon the Middle East oil patch to Russian and Chinese influence? Not any-fecking-time soon.

Sofian Abdelaziz Zakkout, the founder and President of the American Muslim Association of North America (AMANA), does many things for the Muslim community. He organizes rallies, he acts as a mosque liaison, he arranges relief missions, and he gives out books and educational materials through his group. Zakkout, as well, does things to affect the Jewish community, however in a horrifically negative way. He uses social media to spread the most insidious forms of anti-Semitism. Recently, he continued in this path, by posting a video onto Facebook of a march taking place in Morocco that celebrated violence and bigotry against Jews.
In October 2015, a heavily anti-Semitic Palestinian solidarity march took place in Casablanca, Morocco. A video of the march found its way onto the Facebook page of Muslim leader Sofian Zakkout, this past April. In this video, marchers held signs displaying Nazi swastikas and fists breaking through Jewish stars; a Jewish star was spray-painted on the ground with a red “X” painted atop it. The video also portrayed individuals dressed as Orthodox Jews held on the ground at gunpoint by masked men wearing keffiyehs. As one Jew lie helpless, his beard was ripped from his face by one of the gunman. A separate video from the march showed the Jews being stabbed to death.
Of course, this is not the first social media posting perpetrated by Zakkout that attacked Jews. Indeed, there have been many, too numerous to list. The following are but some of the more incendiary ones.

Dual Canadian citizens will no longer lose citizenship if convicted of terrorism under new bill
Bill C-6, which passed the Senate on June 15, was designed to repeal many of the previous Conservative government’s changes to how people become citizens — and how they can lose that status.
OTTAWA—A Liberal bill that would make it easier for people to become Canadian citizens has passed the Senate, after over a year of back-and-forth in Parliament.
Bill C-6 was designed to repeal many of the previous Conservative government’s changes to how people become citizens — and how they can lose that status.
Among other things, the legislation repeals a provision that strips dual citizens of their Canadian status if convicted of terrorism, treason or espionage.
But far more people lose their citizenship because it was obtained fraudulently and current law gives them no right to appeal, something not addressed in the Liberals’ original bill.
The Senate proposed adding such an appeal and the Liberals agreed to that and several other amendments late last week.
The bill went back to the Senate and after a brief debate, passed by a vote of 51-29.
Former immigration minister John McCallum introduced the bill in 2016, following through on a Liberal campaign promise that had in part spawned Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s famous “A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian” line during the heated debates of the 2015 election.
The issue was the Conservatives’ citizenship law, which allowed for stripping citizenship from dual nationals convicted of certain serious crimes.
It has been applied to one person: Zakaria Amara, convicted for his role in a 2006 terror plot in Toronto and his citizenship is now likely to be reinstated.
The Liberals’ original bill makes two other changes: restoring the age range for language and knowledge requirements for citizenship to 18 to 54 from 14 to 64. One of the Senate amendments had sought to raise the upper age to 59 but the Liberals did not accept that.
The other change in the bill repeals a Conservative provision that required people to say they intended to reside in Canada as part of their citizenship application.
Among the notable Senate amendments was one allowing people a right to appeal if their citizenship were to be revoked because of fraud.
The Liberals accepted it, though their hand was forced a bit after a recent Federal Court ruling saying citizens deserved an independent hearing before their status was revoked.
The Opposition Conservatives have condemned that move, saying it risks encouraging people to lie on their application, because of the lengthy appeals process.
They say their process — which left decisions on revocation in the hands of the bureaucrats — was more efficient, and court appeals were still possible if the law was wrongly applied.
