Steve Scalise, aides shot in Virginia

Fox News:

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot and multiple congressional aides were also hit by a gunman with a rifle who opened fire at a GOP baseball practice in Virginia Wednesday morning, Fox News confirmed.

Scalise was in stable condition. Five people were “transported medically” from the scene, Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown said; however, it was unclear how many people had been shot.

The gunman was shot by U.S. Capitol Police, apprehended and taken to the hospital, officials said. Sen. Mike Lee told Fox News, however, the gunman was killed. The incident occurred at Simpson Field in Alexandria, about 10 miles from Washington D.C.

“The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely,” President Trump said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected.”

“FIFTY TO SIXTY SHOTS FIRED”

White gunman shoots House Majority leader Steve Scalise and at least four others as he fires up to 100 shots in ‘targeted attack’ on Republicans at Congressional baseball practice

Five people including the House Majority Whip Steve Scalise were shot at a GOP baseball practice on Wednesday morning.

The gunman opened fire from the third base dugout at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria, Virginia, as the group practiced batting at around 7am.

He fired between 50 and 100 rounds before being shot by Capitol Police who were accompanying Scalise. The shooter is now in custody and being treated at a local hospital.

A congressional staffer and two Capitol Police officers were shot. Senator Rand Paul, who was at the scene but was not injured, said it was a ‘killing field’.

The shooter asked the group if they were Republicans or Democrats before opening fire from the third base dugout as the men practiced batting.

College professor: Republicans

‘should be lined up and shot’

Amid rising concerns of politically motivated violence on college campuses, one college professor wants to see Republicans executed and has declared so publicly.

Professor John Griffin of the Art Institute of Washington posted on Facebook that House Republicans “should be lined up and shot” for passing the American Health Care Act to reform Obamacare.

  1. The shooter pulled the trigger. What motivated him? Answer: MSM, of which CNN… In fact, we could almost say CNN tried to kill him.

  2. For the better part of a decade the Dems have been pushing for a civil war, now their efforts are bearing fruit and the Dems are going to continue to fill the airwaves with hateful lies about the Republicans. What the Dems need to understand (not that they will bother to learn anything) is that if they keep attacking the Patriotic Americans are going to fight back and we have a near monopoly in the highly trained people, when (not if when) our side gets tired and starts retaliating they will be taught how to carry out an urban civil war professionally and effectively.

For the Readers in America if you aren’t already armed and have a concealed carry permit (if you are in a state that requires one and issues them) get enough ammo to last a while because the Dems are now going to push for gun control for all but their supporters and during this push they will probably push to remove the self defense laws.

  3. This is what happens when the Left Dems encourage violence against the President, conservatives, Repubs and populists. This is why “free speech” should not apply to ISIS loving scum like Kathy Griffin and the theater company in NYC that is advocating the killing of President Trump.

Can’t wait to find out who the shooter was and if there was any mention of A*****

    • I forget his name, he worked on Berni’s campaign.

Too bad he died, I would have loved to be in on the interrogation, preferably enhanced.

    • I would love to have been able to question teh shooter and find out who was in on this with him.

  4. Shooter identified by law enforcement officials as James T. Hodgkinson

The shooter at the GOP congressional baseball practice this morning is James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., according to law enforcement officials. Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home inspection business. His home inspection license expired in November 2016 and was not renewed, state records show.

Hodgkinson was charged in April 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle, according to online records in St. Clair County, Illinois. The charges were dismissed, records show.

  5. Belleville suspect killed in congressional shootout belonged to anti-GOP groups

The shooter who was killed during gunfire at practice for a congressional baseball game Wednesday morning was from Belleville.

The shooter was James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, who belonged to a number of anti-Republican groups, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.”

President Donald Trump tweeted that Hodgkinson died during gunfire exchanged with congressional security workers.

Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home-inspection business. Hodgkinson was a licensed home inspector from 1994 to 1997, when his license expired, according to records from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He also held a license from 2003 to 2016, but it was not renewed.

Two days ago, Hodgkinson posted an angry tweet about President Donald Trump on Facebook.

“I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an ass hole you are Truly the Biggest Ass Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office,” he wrote on Facebook.

Hodgkinson is a member of a number of anti-Republican groups on Facebook, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.”

? “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans”

? “Donald Trump is not my President”

    ? “President Bernie Sanders”

? “Illinois Berners United to Resist Trump”

    ? “Boycott the Republican Party”

    ? “Expose Republican Fraud”

    ? “Terminate the Republican Party”

Hodgkinson took a Democratic ballot in the primary election in 2016.

In 2012, Hodgkinson took part in a protest outside the downtown Belleville post office. He said he was part of a “99%” team drawing attention to the amount of money and political power the top 1 percent of Americans acquired.

Terry Beach, the executive director of the St. Clair County Intergovermental Grants Department, said Hodgkinson worked as a subcontractor in the department’s housing rehabilitation and weatherization program.

However he had been banned from the department, Beach said. Beach said he didn’t remember him well. It wasn’t immediately clear why Hodgkinson was banned from the department.

Hodgkinson has a varied arrest record in St. Clair County, for offenses such as failing to obtain electrical permits, damaging a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, eluding police, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence and assorted traffic offenses.

Realtor Charlene Brennan with Strano & Associates in Belleville, Ill, used Hodgkinson from time to time for home inspections.

“He used to be in construction or the building trades, and then he went into home inspections. He had been doing home inspections for several years,” she said.

There was nothing about Hodgkinson that would have pointed to Wednesday’s events.

“From a business standpoint, he did not seem like he is a radical — opinionated but not a radical,” Brennan said. “He wasn’t obnoxious, he wasn’t problematic. When he did home inspections for me he didn’t rile up the buyers or make ridiculous statements.”

Former Congressman William Enyart, a Democrat from Belleville who was defeated by current Rep. Mike Bost, said he’s never heard of Hodgkinson.

“I don’t have a clue who this guy is,” Enyart said.

Enyart was defeated by Bost, a Republican from Murphysboro, in 2014.

Enyart is friends with Hodgkinson on Facebook, but Enyart said when he was is public life, he had a generally policy of “friending everybody.”

Three metro-east congressmen asked for prayers on Wednesday morning after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Louisana, was shot in the hip by a rifle-wielding man at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, VA.

U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, has been Scalise’s Washington, D.C. roommate for about eight years.

Shimkus is listed on the 2017 Republican team roster for the game. The congressman said he was not at the practice Wednesday morning.

“We are pretty close,” Shimkus said. “I blew (practice) off today because my body is old — and I had a speech.”

Shimkus said the game, scheduled for Thursday, is a great bipartisan event with a lot of “trash talk” that unites Congress rather than divides it.

    • “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans”

While that may be true, anyone who is firing on all cylinders knows that (for many years) the GOP has had NOTHING to do with genuine conservatism.

  6. UPDATE: Sanders says man ID’d as shooter was on campaign

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders says the man authorities identified as opening fire on the Republican congressional baseball practice had apparently volunteered on his presidential campaign..

Sanders, of Vermont, says in a statement: “I am sickened by this despicable act.”

He says that “violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.”

He paid tribute to Capitol Police for their response to the shooting, and said his “hopes and prayers” are with House GOP Whip Steve Scalise and others who were wounded.
