Trump’s State Department refuses to look for Hillary Clinton’s emails
Judicial Watch was hoping that “Team Trump” would also mean team transparency. But the conservative watchdog group was disappointed Monday after State Department lawyers were still insisting — even under their new President Trump-appointed leadership — that they have no intention of trying to find any potential as-yet uncovered Hillary Clinton emails from her time at the department.
Given that Trump once joked that Russia should find Hillary’s missing emails, it’s an ironic twist for Judicial Watch that it can’t get Trump’s own State Department to cooperate.
At a hearing in Washington on Monday at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the State Department said it will continue to seek a dismissal of Judicial Watch’s case attempting to force them to locate Clinton’s emails.
With Cause of Action also acting as a plaintiff, Judicial Watch is hoping to use a small bit of the Federal Records Act to force the State Department to locate more Clinton emails from her tenure as secretary of state.
The lawsuit has had a long journey. John Kerry’s State Department got the case dismissed in early 2016 in the court of Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, but the dismissal was overturned by the Court of Appeals this past December. Despite having the case sent back down to the District Court, State Department attorneys were undeterred, arguing Monday they would again file for a dismissal and hoping that new information learned in the past year — specifically the release of the Clinton email report from the FBI — might be enough to satisfy Judicial Watch, or be enough to get all courts to agree that the case is now moot.
But Judicial Watch was clearly hoping that the new administration would have meant a shift in strategy.
“What’s surprising is the Trump Administration is continuing the Obama Administration’s legal strategy to obstruct and defend Hillary Clinton’s email practices,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said after the hearing. “This is an example, in my view, of the ‘deep state’ still running things, in many respects.” The “deep state” can be most broadly defined as the unelected federal bureaucracy.
“This judge, again, wants us to go through the same arguments cycle that didn’t work out for the State Department the first time,” said James Peterson, senior attorney for Judicial Watch. “What is undisputed here is that records still remain out there to be recovered.”
With the State Department attorneys making clear they would again try to dismiss the case, the next hearing is set for April 21.

“Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who was fired on March 11, is in league with the followers of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen against Turkey, Justice Minister Bekir Bozda? has said, adding that his firing was “totally the decision of the U.S. government.”
Bharara, who garnered fame in Turkey for launching a probe against a controversial Turkish-Iranian businessman, was asked to resign, but was fired after his refusal to do so.
“Prosecutor Bharara is the partner of an operation carried out by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization terror group’s leader, Gülen, and his terrorists using Reza Zarrab against Turkey. It’s very clear,” Bozda? said at an event in the northwestern province of Düzce on March 12.
Zarrab was arrested in the U.S. last year on charges that he conspired to conduct hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transactions for the Iranian government or other entities to evade U.S. sanctions.
He is widely known in Turkey, as his name was embroiled in the December 2013 graft operations that involved four former ministers and other state officials.
The case targeted figures close to the government and resulted in lasting enmity between the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government and the Gülenists, widely believed to have been behind the July 15, 2016, failed coup attempt.
Four former cabinet members, Economy Minister Zafer Ça?layan, Interior Minister Muahmmer Güler, European Union Minister Egemen Ba??? and Urban Minister Erdo?an Bayraktar, were accused in the probe before they were acquitted by parliament.
President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an previously called the December 2013 graft probes as a coup plot.
Bozda? said Bharara “is a person who tries to realize the wishes of the Fethullahist terrorists.”
“We know Bharara well, we see the things he is doing and how he violates the law. It’s the will of the U.S. government to remove him from duty and we have nothing to say to that. However, we always saw him as a prosecutor who used the law as a sword against Turkey and a person who tried to complete what the terrorist organization couldn’t complete in Turkey in the U.S.,” Bozda? said.”

“The Netherlands “doesn’t extradite terrorists” to Turkey, even though Ankara has demanded the return of 11 outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants and five outlawed Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) militants, Justice Minister Bekir Bozda? has said.
Bozda?’s remarks came amid increasing tensions between The Netherlands and Turkey, after the Dutch authorities prevented Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya from meeting Turks living in the Netherlands after warning her that she was not welcome in the country.
“We’ve asked for the extradition of 11 PKK militants as part of legal processes, but they returned only one.
We asked for the extradition of five DHKP-C militants, but they didn’t give any of them back. These numbers are from just the last 10 years,” Bozda? said on March 13, adding that the PKK, the DHKP-C and the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) were free to “carry out terrorist activities” in the country.
“In the Netherlands, it’s openly free for the PKK, DHKP-C and FETÖ terrorist organizations to carry out their activities, spread terror propaganda, finance terror, and recruit terrorists before sending them to terror groups. They have the right to freedom of movement, right to assemble, right to travel, and right to express themselves [in the Netherlands]. But Turkey’s legitimate government is banned from using its rights, which were guaranteed beyond dispute under the Vienna Convention,” he added, describing this as a “big contradiction.”
“FETÖ is able to carry out its activities with all freedoms and the [Dutch] government supports that. The same goes for the DHKP-C. Some of those who were involved in the coup attempt are being protected in the Netherlands,” Bozda? said, referring to the failed July 15, 2016 coup attempt, widely believed to have been carried out by followers of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.
“Let’s state it clearly: Whoever engages in acts against Turkey, the Turkish state and the Turkish nation, is a friend of the Netherlands. They are under protection there,” he said, while complaining that Turkey was being used for “election material” in many European countries.
“Governments against Turkey are being elected in those countries. Material used for domestic politics is being formed through enmity against Turkey, the Turkish nation and xenophobia,” Bozda? added.”

“The European Union (EU) is to open asylum processing centres in West Africa and countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean because the continent “need[s] six million migrants”, Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos has said.
Speaking in Geneva last week, the Greek Eurocrat denied terror attacks are linked to migration and warned the “biggest threat” to Europe is “the rise of populism, nationalism and xenophobia”.
Declaring “the 27 [member states] will need 6 million immigrants in the future”, Avramopoulos explained the Commission is going to open reception centres to recruit migrants, because an open borders approach would fuel populism.
“We will open offices in all countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean and in West Africa. This is the best way to fight smugglers.”
“Obviously, we are not going to just open the borders and let everybody in. This would be absurd and would only feed xenophobia, nationalism, and populism. Having said that, we must protect the persecuted and treat everyone with dignity,” he said.
The former Athens mayor argued that “terrorism is not synonymous of [sic] migration”, stating: “As for the terrorist attacks in the EU, they were committed by European citizens. With one exception, it was never the case of refugees.”
He stressed the solution to terror attacks lies not in strengthening national borders but in closer cooperation between EU nations, insisting that “Europe needs common policies on security, migration and the economy”….”
