Now I understand, I think, why Sursum Corda was permitted his last antisemitic statement. And for you, Sursum Corda, welcome to the land of Free Speech. Revel in it, be thankful for it, and try to understand how, in this small forum, you were granted it.
What a profound and educational lecture. Amazingly, and with artfullness and calculation, Dr. Peterson delivers the punchline to our modern dilemma without saying it out loud. He must have estimated his audience.
Jordan Peterson’s expanding public presence is certainly welcomed. We need minds like his to help deprogram the masses infected with Marxism. An excellent speech, and an eloquent discussion on the stagnation of a society in which free speech is stifled.
I particularly liked his critique of post-modernism and his point about nihilism and totalitarianism not being inevitable consequences of the “death” of God. His rebuttal of the notion that Christianity contained within it the seeds of its own destruction (through the focus on truth) was interesting also. I have encountered numerous times arguments to the effect that science and reason did not slay religion because it is alive and well, or exists in some area that is beyond the reach of the scientific approach (the “God of the Gaps” idea); many of these are arguments I personally found persuasive. But the idea that there was complete compatibility between reason/science and Christianity (also Judaism) was essentially something new for me. I will definitely give this video a second look.
I have heard that the 19th Century German Philosophers did a very good job of proving that Science and Christianity are compatible, which is why the modern Universities don’t teach about them.
Interesting – perhaps I need to do some reading. One thing reflecting on Prof. Peterson’s video has convinced me of is that post-modernism is, essentially, a crock. It is not even self-consistent in the sense that, if one accepts it as a model then by its own “tenets” one has no more reason to prefer post-modernism as a paradigm for reality to any other paradigm that has been proposed to describe reality. It kind of makes me think of a child smashing his block house to pieces in a temper because he can’t make it the way he wishes, or understand fully the physical dynamics of why certain shapes work and others don’t, and saying, “I just won’t play at all then!”
STUNNING – A MUST WATCH – long but worth every minute.
A personal note:
I am German born and an unconditional supporter and friend of Israel and the Jews and my obsession is fighting Jew Hatred. When irritating folk address me – mostly condescendingly – with the unsolicited comments “it’s not your fault – you were not born then” (they often come from the same position of stupid ignorance like the ones who say “Nietzsche was a Nazi”) I have often to restrain myself not to be really really really rude and so, I dont explain, other than certainly not exchanging phone numbers with them.
Apart from my anger, I was never really able to articulate exactly WHY I am so “pro-Jewish”. This brilliant man, Dr. Jordan Peterson, does just that in the 2.5 minutes between Minute 4 and 6.30 of this video. One of those AHA moments!
As to the camera man of this video: the visuals remind me of the best French Films: Dark, stark, minimalist, expressive putting the torch on the LOGO. BRAVO !!!
