Andrey Karlov, Russia’s ambassador to Turkey was shot dead on Monday by Mevlut Mert Altintas, a 22-year-old gunman, who was part of his security detail. Karlov was in the Turkish capital city Ankara to inaugurate a photo exhibition when Altintas fired nine bullets at him. The attack has dealt a fresh blow to Russia-Turkey relations, just as the two countries were warming up to each other following a straining of ties last year caused by Turkey shooting down a Russian plane in Syria. The two countries have also been at loggerheads over Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, who is supported by Russia, but opposed by Turkey.

The Turkish policeman who murdered Russia’s ambassador to Ankara provided security to Recep Tayyip Erdogan on multiple occasions in the months leading up to Monday’s assassination, it has been reported.
Melvut Mert Altintas, 22, served on police details backing up Mr Erdogan’s personal body guards eight times since the failed military coup that rocked Turkey in July, Abdülkadir Selvi, a columnist known for his close ties to the government, wrote in Hurriyet on Wednesday
Alintas, who served on an elite Ankara riot unit for two and a half years, was part of the second tier of security at those events. He was also reported to have served on Mr Erdogan;’s security detail twice in 2014 and 2015.
If confirmed, the revelations will raise questions about how the assassin passed through strict security screening despite plotting the murder of a high-ranking foreign diplomat.
Altintas shouted “Allahu Akbar” and “don’t forget Aleppo” after he shot Andrey Karlov, Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, on Monday.
The off-duty policeman was killed shortly afterwards by Turkish security officers, who said they feared he was carrying a bomb.
The Turkish government has blamed the attack on Fettulah Gulen, a US-based preacher and critic of Mr Erdogan who has also been accused of orchestrating the failed coup in July.
The Kremlin distanced itself from those claims on Wednesday, saying that it was “too early” to name Altintas’ possible accomplices.
“We shouldn’t rush with any theories before the investigators establish who were behind the assassination of our ambassador,” said Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman.
Mr Peskov added that the murder was a “certainly a blow to [Turkey’s] prestige.”
Russia has sent 18 detectives and intelligence officers to Ankara to take part in the investigation. Turkish media reported on Wednesday that Altintas’ mobile phone may be sent to Moscow for analysis.
Earlier Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, was quoted as telling John Kerry, the US Secretary of States, that Turkey and Russia both believed Mr Gulen’s followers were behind the attack.
The claim has been repeated in pro-government media, where it has been claimed that Mr Altintas had family links to the Gulen movement and that his cry of “Allahu akbar” was an attempt to disguise himself as an Islamist.
Opposition media have questioned that claim, pointing instead to the attacker’s apparent anger at Russia’s involvement in the war in Syria and what they described as Turkey’s increasing Islamification under the rule Mr Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP).
Mr Gulen has denied involvement.
The claims came as it emerged that medics were unable to reach the wounded Karlov for 45 minutes while police engaged Altintas in a deadly shootout.
A special operations police team arrived on the Ankara’s Modern Arts Centre around twenty minutes after the murder, which took place at around 7.05pm on Monday evening.
Officers repeatedly called on Altintas to surrender but he continued firing on them, even after being shot four times in the feet and legs.
Eventually, after about 15 minutes of confrontation, they killed him with a fatal shot to the neck.
It was only then that medical staff were able to tend to the Russian ambassador, who had been lying prostrate on the cold, grey gallery floor. It was too late to save him.
Mr Karlov’s family flew back to Russia with the ambassador’s body on Tuesday. He will be buried in a ceremony attended by Vladimir Putin on Thursday.
Mr Putin posthumously appointed the diplomat a Hero of Russia, the country’s highest honour, the Kremlin said.
The Kremlin said it had postponed Mr Putin’s annual press conference until Friday to allow the president to attend the funeral.

This is something I have said many times (although not often on Vlad) the Socialist types are atheists and for the most part they don’t “get” religion. In the US they pay lip service to religion but don’t really believe that the religious people believe in their religions and that it is a motive for their actions. This has hampered us in the fight against the Islamic conquest because they refuse to accept the idea that Islam and the orders or Mohammad to conquer the world and forcibly convert everyone to Islam is the reason for the attacks. This is rather ironic because their devotion to Karl Marx often reaches religious fervor and when you hear the alt left talk about those who don’t believe the same you can almost hear them shout kill the blasphemer.

American Jewish population rapidly becoming more Orthodox
Although the overall percentage of Jews in the US has held steady for the last two decades at about 2.2%, the percentage who consider themselves Orthodox is skyrocketing.… “Orthodox birthrates in just the last few years have been soaring.” However, “The sky is falling for the rest of the Jewish population.”
According to the Pew Research Center study, approximately 10% of the 5.5 million American Jews consider themselves Orthodox in comparison to the 18% who consider themselves Conservative, 35% Reform, and 30% no denomination.
However, the Orthodox population is much younger. In the “grandparent” generation, those aged 56-73, only 5% are Orthodox. In the “parent” generation, aged 28-45, 15% are Orthodox. In the “child” generation, aged 0-17, 27% are being raised in Orthodox homes.
In other words, over the course of 3 generations, the percentage of Orthodox among Jews in America has more than quintupled – from 5% to 27%.…
These numbers are due to a number of factors, including
• Dramatically lower intermarriage rates: Just 2% of Orthodox married couples are intermarried vs 44% of American Jewish couples overall.
• Dramatically higher birth rates: Orthodox families have an average of 4.1 children per family vs 1.9 children per family overall.
• Dramatically lower age at time of marriage: 80% of Orthodox women aged 18-29 are married vs 20% of non-Orthodox Jewish women of the same age, according to a 2006 study by the American Jewish Committee.
Furthermore, the influence of Orthodox Jews in America on the character of Jewish life goes well beyond their mushrooming numbers. 69% of Orthodox Jews, according to the Pew study, are members of a congregation vs 31% for Jews in America overall. 92% of the Orthodox contribute money to Jewish causes, vs 56% of Jews overall.
When it comes to Israel, 91% of Orthodox Jews say they are somewhat or very attached to Israel vs 69% overall among Jews. 77% of Orthodox Jews have been to Israel, vs just 43% of Jews overall. According to the 2013 survey, just 30% of Orthodox Jews believe that a two-state solution could work, vs 61% of Jews overall who believe it’s a viable possibility.
The study has implications for American politics as well, where the differences are also striking. Among Jews overall, according to the Pew study, 70% say they are Democrats or lean towards the Democratic Party, while only 22% are Republican or lean Republican. Everything we know about Anis A, the suspected Berlin Christmas market attacker
Little has so far been officially disclosed about Anis A, the new suspect in the Berlin attacks. Even his name has not been confirmed by police. But details have begun to come to light in leaks to the German media.
The picture that has emerged is an asylum-seeker who had been identified as a potential threat some time after his arrival in Germany and was supposed to be under surveillance, but managed to give police the slip some time earlier this month.
He was a known associate of a group of men who were arrested in November on suspicion of rercuiting volunteers to travel to Syria to fight for Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil), and even lived for a time with one of them, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
The newspaper also reported that at one point he asked a police informant in the west German state of North Rhine-Westphalia where he could get hold of a gun.
His telephone was supposed to be monitored but he went underground earlier this month.
Police reportedly identified him as the suspect in the Christmas market attack after an identity document in his name was found under the driver’s seat of the lorry used in the attack.
Anis A’s correct name and age are not clear. He is believed to have used a number of different aliases and had passports and identity documents with different names and ages.
He is in his early twenties and was born in the town of Tataouine in southern Tunisia, according to German media reports.
Most famous as the place that inspired the planet Tatooine in the Star Wars films, more recently the town has become a base for Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) fighters crossing into Libya.
It is not clear when Anis A arrived in Germany. His application for asylum was refused in April this year, but according to some reports he arrived in 2015. Before that he is believed to have been in Italy, possibly since as long ago as 2012.
Although his asylum application was rejected, he was allowed to remain in Germany — an intermediate status granted to those the German authorities believe might be at risk if deported.
The document found in the terror attack lorry is reportedly the government paper confirming this status.
Germany recent terror attacks
It appears Anis A emerged as a potential threat some time after being allowed to stay in Germany. He lived at different times in Berlin and in the west German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
At one time, he reportedly lived with a flatmate who was arrested last month as a suspected Isil recruiter.
The flatmate, named as Boban S, was one of several men arrested alongside Ahmad Abdelazziz A, a well-known extremist preacher in Germany.
Also known as Abu Wala and “the faceless preacher” for his habit of never showing his face in his videos, the Iraqi national is being held on suspicion of recruiting volunteers to fight for Isil in Syria, but has not been linked to any terror attacks on European soil.
Anis A was reportedly arrested or questioned by police earlier this year, though the exact details remain unclear. Some German media report it was in connection with a case of physical harm, others that he was carrying a false Italian identity document.

A wanted notice for a Tunisian suspect in the truck attack on a Christmas market in Berlin says the man should be considered armed and dangerous.
The notice, a European arrest warrant from Germany obtained by The Associated Press, indicates he has at times used six different aliases and three different nationalities.
It names Anis Amri as having Tunisian citizenship, born in the town of Ghaza. But it lists multiple aliases, many of them variants on his name, and Egyptian and Lebanese citizenship as well.
German authorities say they rejected the man’s asylum request in July.

Indonesia: Anti-terrorism police kill 3 suspected militants in raid near Jakarta
Indonesian anti-terrorism police say they have killed three suspected militants in a raid on a house in Babakan Village in South Tangerang, near the capital Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Hundreds of locals gathered outside the raided house, amid heavy security and media presence. The police say it found three pipe bombs which could have been used in a suicide attack on Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve.
Jakarta police believes the suspects were connected to a woman arrested in Bekesi with a hand-made bomb early December, who had planned to execute an attack in Jakarta.

We found three pipe bombs that the suspects were going to use to attack the Tangerang area. We managed to raid the house, but the suspects attempted fighting back, so we had to retaliate. Montreal police are on the lookout for three suspects involved in an attempted arson at a Montreal North mosque last month.
Security camera footage obtained by police shows two men and a woman lurking in front of the Noor Al Islam Mosque on the corner of Pelletier and Forest streets Nov. 12 around 10:40 p.m.
The footage shows one of the men lighting an object and placing it against the wall of the building. The mosque suffered minor damage.
Police describe that suspect as a white man with a prominent paunch who stands about 5’11” and weighs 250 pounds. He has short, dark hair, a beard and was wearing a light-coloured jacket with reflective strips on the shoulders, a black belt, light-coloured pants and black shoes.
The second suspect, a thin, white woman with blond hair, was wearing a dark three-quarter length jacket with fur around the hood, tight, light-coloured pants and short, black boots.
The third suspect is a white man about six feet in height. He was wearing a light-coloured baseball hat and coat with a large hood, jeans and black shoes with white laces.

Security camera footage from the brutal attack reportedly shows the 35-year-old man grabbing two knives from the kitchenware section just before two shoppers are attacked. He is seen stabbing and then hacking at the neck of one victim, according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
The government has blocked any footage from being released, in order to quell “Islamophobia.” And for two full days, they would not permit the police from even telling the public a Muslim was involved — using that time to deploy troops to “protect” centers where Muslim migrants are publicly housed.

Black man, Andrew McClinton, arrested for burning and spray-painting ‘Vote Trump’ on church
ACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi authorities arrested a man Wednesday in the burning of an African-American church that was also spray-painted with the words, “Vote Trump.”
Andrew McClinton of Leland, Mississippi, was charged with first degree arson of a place of worship, said Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. McClinton is African-American.
McClinton was arrested in Greenville, where Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church was burned and vandalized Nov. 1, a week before the presidential election.
It was not immediately clear whether McClinton is represented by an attorney.
An investigation continues, but a state official said authorities don’t believe politics was the reason for the fire.
“We do not believe it was politically motivated. There may have been some efforts to make it appear politically motivated,” Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney, who is also the state fire marshal, told The Associated Press.
Greenville is a Mississippi River port city of about 32,100 people, and about 78 percent of its residents are African-American. While it’s not unusual for people of different racial backgrounds to work and eat lunch together, local residents say the congregations at most churches remain clearly identifiable by race.
Hopewell was founded in 1905 in the heart of an African-American neighborhood, and the congregation now has about 200 members. While some walls of the beige brick church survived the fire, the empty windows are boarded up and church leaders have said the structure will likely be razed. Rebuilding could take months.
After the fire, Hopewell congregants began worshipping in a chapel at predominantly white First Baptist Church of Greenville. The Hopewell bishop, Clarence Green, said last month the generosity of First Baptist demonstrates that “unlimited love” transcends social barriers. James Nichols, senior pastor at First Baptist, said the Hopewell members are welcome to stay as long as they need a home.
Greenville is in Washington County, a traditional Democratic stronghold in a solidly Republican state. In the Nov. 8 presidential election, Republican Donald Trump easily carried Mississippi, but Democrat Hillary Clinton received more than twice the vote of Trump in Washington County — 11,380 for Clinton to 5,244 for Trump.

Responding to a question about why she thought the country had the most jihadists per capita travelling to the Middle East to fight with the terrorist cause, she replied: “I think there are several different types of hotbeds of extremism. What we see is that there is an interaction between them.
“It is true that Islamic extremism is growing, but this also results from the extreme right-wing white power movement.”
She added that “there is an interaction between these two movements because society is becoming more and more polarised”.
Ms Carlsted went on to link Islamist terror with Swedes who are unhappy with politicians in the country.
She said: “As I said earlier, we are seeing increased extremism and we see a lot of threats and hatred of elected representatives, officials and others.
“It is something that exists in Sweden and we see it in many other countries.”
She added: “It is very important to take advantage of the good forces [‘civil society’] and not let fear and darkness win.”

Police often do not use their sidearms even when faced with threats to their life because they are afraid of breaking the rules, which can lead to their immediate suspension pending an inquiry.
Their anger came to a head in October after four officers were subjected to a Molotov cocktail attack on their car.
They didn’t use their weapons, officers told FRANCE 24 at a protest in Paris the following month, because they “probably hesitated because they were not being shot at”.
Decades of neglect
At the protest, Versailles police officer Nicolas explained that their current rules of engagement were “identical to civilian rules governing self-defence”, and that criminals were both perfectly aware of them and conscious of officers’ fear of getting into trouble.
“It’s a Catch-22,” he said. “When someone is holding a petrol bomb and is ready to throw it, if you use your weapon you are in big trouble. If the petrol bomb lands on you before you can use your weapon, you are also in big trouble because you are being burned. So what’s the point of being armed?”
Officers also complained of chronic under-funding and being “fed up after decades of neglect by changing governments that have eroded our ability to function properly in a job we love”.
“We work in filthy, run-down police stations, we have to provide much of our own equipment – business cards and even pens. We don’t have up-to-date communications or radio equipment and we are expected to rely almost completely on our private mobile phones,” said Nicolas’ colleague Alexandre Langlois. “Above all, none of us feels we can defend ourselves properly.”
Law and order issues ahead of election
The bill would strengthen a law passed in June 2016 that allowed officers to shoot if it would “prevent loss of life in the immediate aftermath of an act of murder”.
It would also allow officers to fire at vehicles that are bearing down on them.
Other proposed measures include doubling sanctions for insulting police, easing conditions to wear hoods to better protect the identity of police officers and €250 million (£222.78 million) to buy new equipment.
The bill, which was proposed in November 2016 and is due to be submitted to Parliament in January 2017, also provides for a tightening of how investigators are identified during criminal proceedings in order to protect them from public retribution.
It is being rushed through parliament by the Socialist government at a time when law and order issues are likely to feature highly in next year’s presidential elections.
Latest polls show the ruling Socialists trailing in third place behind far-right candidate Marine le Pen, and conservative opposition candidate François Fillon, as the two most likely to go through to the second-round face-off.”
I hope it passes, and if those are the rules that the civilians have to live under they should be loosened also.
They really need to get their heads on straight.

“Populists across Europe have seized on the truck attack in Berlin as a way to criticise Germany’s immigration policy but key players have held back on jumping to conclusions as the investigation continues.
Former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage, a key ally of US President-elect Donald Trump in Europe, said the attack which killed 12 people was “no surprise” and would be part of Merkel’s “legacy”.
“Merkel has directly caused a whole number of social and terrorist problems in Germany, it’s about time we confronted that truth,” he told LBC radio on Tuesday.
UKIP donor Arron Banks, who was also a key funder behind the Brexit campaign, tweeted that Merkel “might as well have” been driving the truck herself.
A 23-year-old Pakistani asylum-seeker was arrested immediately after the incident on Monday after reportedly fleeing the scene but was released on Tuesday without charge.
Police said on Wednesday they were now on a manhunt for a new suspect, identified in German media as a Tunisian citizen in his early 20s who applied for asylum in April and had a temporary residence permit.
Merkel has been criticised over her decision to let in around a million migrants – many of them fleeing war-torn Syria – over the past two years.
‘Last drop of patience’
Her policy has been polarising, not just in Germany.
Just hours after Monday’s attack, far-right Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders sharply blamed European leaders for admitting asylum-seekers into Europe.
“Merkel, (Dutch Prime Minister Mark) Rutte and all the other cowardly government leaders have allowed in Islamic terror and an asylum tsunami with their open borders policy,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
Wilders, who heads the anti-Islam Freedom Party (PVV), also tweeted a photo-shopped picture of Merkel with her hands, face and jacket spattered in blood.
The image was not accompanied by any words, but implied she had blood on her hands for the attack.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Tuesday said the Berlin attack had been “the last drop in the cup of patience” in Europe’s migration crisis.
Matthew Goodwin, a senior fellow at the Chatham House think tank, said attacks such as the one in Berlin represented a “significant opportunity” for the “radical right” to emphasise the issue of security.
“Across much of Europe, the radical right is increasingly linking the migrant crisis to security,” alongside their traditional anti-elite and anti-immigration campaign messages, he said.
Merkel ‘irresponsible’
Other populist forces have been more cautious, however.
In Austria, the far-right Freedom Party steered clear of making the link between Merkel’s policies and the attack.”
